" . . . this is a band worth a listen."
About the Artist
Beth Rinaldo (vocals, six and 12 string guitars) has been singing, playing guitar and writing songs for over 20 years. She sang backup harmony vocals in another local band before forming a partnership with Allison Page and, subsequently, with the Well-Strung Boys. Her many musical influences include Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Gillian Welch and Buddy and Julie Miller. Allison Page (vocals, guitar) sharpened her harmony vocal skills while singing with an eight member a capella group...

Lifts you up and makes the days shine.......2007-01-21
I found this CD when looking for Chris' pop song "When did you fall in love with me." (not on this CD). I'd never heard of him before, but I recognized him somehow. Although I rarely buy Christian CDs, (Amy Grant the exception), I decided to try this. I put it in my car's CD player and never took it out for 2 weeks. It lifted my spirits beyond anything I can explain. Other reviewers have said Chris' music is a mixture of campfire sing-a-longs and being with friends. It is all that. Master songwriter & storyteller. I especially like that he doesn't preach, that he leaves lots of room for being less than perfect and for being confused & doubtful at times. Highly recommended.
A Fun Collection.......2005-07-10
This is a very enjoyable CD. I have heard some of Rice's songs previously, but this is the first album of his that I have heard in its entirety.
His music is very mellow, but it has good lyrics and a pleasant sound. The main reason that I bought this CD was that I thought my daughter would enjoy 'Cartoons'. I found that it was not the only 'fun' song on this album. 'Billy Joe McGuffrey' is another great song for kids. Actually, I have enjoyed both of those as well as several of the others also. I particulary like 'Deep Enough to Dream'.
If you have a pre-teen or teenager, I would really recommend this for a couple of fun songs. It is also enjoyable for adults.
Great Stuff But Do We Need This CD?.......2005-02-11
For the second year in a row, we get a compilation CD from Chris Rice.
This one starts off with six tracks from various live performances. I must admit I really enjoyed the slightly different take on some classic Chris Rice songs. "Deep Enough to Dream" is especially enjoyable in this setting.
Up next are three songs from non-Chris Rice records. "Billy Joe McGuffrey" originated on the soundtrack for Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie. "Calling out Your Name" was originally on the tribute to Rich Mullins. Finally, "Nothin'" comes from Exodus. I am thrilled to have these songs on a Chris Rice CD.
Lastly, we get some fan favorites directly from their original recording, like any best of. What's interesting to me is the inclusion of two songs from his Living Room Sessions projects, two CD's that got passed over in his best of last year.
Don't get me wrong, I love Chris's music. My disappointment is that there is really little new here for fans. While I enjoy best of's, we just had one last year. It's been two years since we had anything new from Chris, and I'm more then ready for it. This CD would have been great in another few years with another project or two under his belt. I would even feel differently if it were cheaper. But released like this, it feels more like a marketing ploy then anything else.
If you aren't familiar with Chris's music, this would be a great place to start. I just love it. But die hard fans will want to consider if they really want to add this to their collection.

Very good choice for someone who loves American music.......2005-06-14
There is no doubt in my mind that Houston Symphony and San Diego Symphony are two fine orchestras that give a very good sound for these tunes. They are well played and directed and you will dream about America when you will listen this CD. The choice of tunes is excellent and I am sure that you will like. These two orchestras give bright colors to these tunes. A really good choice.
OUTSTANDING! It makes you want to stand and salute........1998-11-09
This is the finest collection of American Patriotic songs. From Copland, Sousa, to Kate Smith singing "God Bless America", these songs remind you of what those before us sacrificed so that we may enjoy, and sadly take for granted, such wonderful freedoms as those which we have today. I admit that when I listen to Kate Smith sing "God Bless America" tears fill my eyes as pride for America swells. If you love America then this is the CD for you. You won't be disappointed, I wasn't!!

Product Description
In a "Studs Terkel-esque" 20 song sweep, the Mayorgas with the best of guests, wend their way from America's mountaintops, to the be-bop of the city and into the storm of US politics. Songs and piano solos from Foster to Fogerty. Lincoln lends his "up-righteous-Steinway" to Phil Ochs one more time.

Laurie Z ~ Music to my ears.......2000-08-07
Laurie Z has released 3 albums, the first 2 being with other instruments complementing her keyboard talents, but this album, Roots, is her solo piano album and it is beautiful. I love her other albums as well, but this album is one you can put on and totally lose yourself in...I have seen her perform live in Southern California as well as in San Francisco, and once you see the passion in Laurie's playing , you will fall in love with her and her music. My absolute favorite is "For The Love Of A Child" which by the way, she created from scratch with the suggestions of notes and themes from the audience at one of her concerts! This lady is talented, not to mention down to earth and always willing to listen and talk to her fans. You will not be disappointed with this album
Roots.......2000-06-22
I've always thought that music is a language in itself, and Laurie Z speaks as if it were her mother tongue. This CD will touch your soul. My favorite cut is The River, which makes me want to weep every time I hear it -- which is a lot, because I keep this CD on my computer disk drive. This CD will covers a whole gamut of emotions, from the delightfully upbeat For the Love of a Child, to the blues of Too Blue. I can't wait for Laurie's next solo piano CD!
From Wind and Wire, Issue 3.......2000-01-27
For awhile it seemed that many of the solo piano albums being released were safe and predictable, and it was becoming increasingly more difficult to tell one artist from another. This past year has brought forth some excellent surprises, but some of these outstanding albums might be difficult to find. One that is especially deserving of the search is Laurie Z's newest release, "Roots". I love this album! This is Laurie's third recording, after "Window to the World" and "Life Between the Lines" which were made with her band. "Roots" is an autobiography set to music, and clearly demonstrates Laurie's diverse and deeply personal composing styles as well as her mastery of the piano. A classically-trained pianist since the age of four, her touch is warm and expressive.
The album opens with "Stranger in a Familiar Land", which is one of my favorites. It is full of passion and perhaps a sense of questioning or wonder. "Michael's Song" is more subdued, but has its own wonderful flow. "In the Monterey Mist" feels just like the title - cool and soft with no hard edges. "For the Love of a Child" conveys a real sense of joyfulness and fun in its uptempo melodic swirls. "The Mysterious Painter" is another piece I love. It is a little darker, but is also passionate and somewhat questioning. "From the Ashes" is a study in optimism, and is again much more uptempo. "Dream Come True" returns to a quiet mood, but a happy and peaceful one. The title tune has a classical touch and lots of colorful minor chords. The feelings expressed are almost unsettling at times because they are so clear and real. A great surprise is "Too Blue", which fits in perfectly, but is different from the other cuts with its bluesy/gospel style. It hints that Laurie Z can get "down and dirty" at the piano with the best of them! The last cut, "Good Night, My Friend" is like a warm and personal conversation with a close friend at the conclusion of an evening you wished didn't have to end. The other three pieces on the album continue to intrigue the ears and emotions with their blend of passion and peace, as well as their flowing melodies. Everything about this album rings true and real, and I hope it is the first of many solo piano recordings from this dynamic composer and artist.
Excellent, as always Laurie!.......1999-04-11
Laurie came to lecture at my MIS class and ever since, I have been hooked on her music. Roots is by far her highest quality recording. And for those who want seconds, try Life Between the Lines. Very cool...
A very talented pianist!.......1999-02-18
I came to finding Laurie Z through Amazon. I was purchasing some music composed by another talented pianist, Lorie Line, when I saw Laurie Z listed as other recommended artist. I have never regreted adding Laurie to my order. Thank you Amazon for introducing me to this wonderful artist. I look forward to buying more of Laurie's albums in the near future. I can rave on and on about each of the pieces, but the sound samples will do more justice than my words. I will just state that Laurie is among my favorites now.

Wire Magazine Review.......2007-06-13
Roedelius & Friends
Snapshots/Sidesteps
PSYCHONAVIGATION cd
In a career that spans more than 40 switched-on years,Hans-Joachim Roedelius has taken the opportunity to make many friends, and Snapshots/Sidesteps,from Dublin label Psychonavigation, is a testimony to some of them.Marking ten years of collaborations and remixes made between 1995-2005,this album's ten unreleased tracks are drawn from projects with artists including Seiichi Suzuki,David Bickley and the Orb's Alex Paterson and Thomas Fehlmann.
In the history of post-war electronica,Roedelius is one of the great linking figures, joining Fluxus to Eno and the post-Acid House era.If this is a big territory to fill, possibly the best angle on Roedelius is as a musician most interested in process, and this is certainly demonstrated by the vignettes - some sketchy ideas, others more fully formed - released here."Ad Honerem" (2003) with Suzuki falls into the former category; a sparse drum track with uncertain elements unfolding into the ether; so too "Claire Obscura" (2005) with Patrick Pulsinger and Werner Dafeldecker. This isn't to denigrate the tracks as on "Juste Milieu",a 1995 offering made with Fabio Capanni, these are moments of imaginative observation, often inspired by organic sounds such as water, birdsong and air currents. As one might expect on a track with The Orb,2002's "Elektrum" takes on a more dynamic format,as does "Fait Accompli", a 2002 track made with Cluster comrade Werner Moebius and littered with tiny explosive electro-beats and skittery piano. But it is 2003's "Hoc Vola" that carries the album.Made with Timothy O'Keefe, the track sets up an accoustic folk riff with some Aeolian atmospherics to reiterate what it is that Roedelius does best.Lovely .
