Significant Other [Explicit Lyrics]

Florida-bred metal-rappers Limp Bizkit sold a million-plus records of their debut largely on the strength of a George Michael cover song. But the band indeed had "Faith" and the group's second outing proves that the Bizkit have the goods. Still, it seems as if boastful frontman Fred Durst is loading the band's deck again, this time by including scads of guest vocalists, such as Stone Temple Pilots' singer Scott Weiland, Method Man from Wu-Tang Clan, and Korn's Jonathan Davis. (In fact, Korn gave Limp Bizkit a leg up in the industry.) But the 16 diverse yet cohesive tracks on Significant Other don't need any help. Not as heavy as their mentors Korn--or as they are on their debut--Bizkit give Everlast a run for his money on the tuneful and appealing "Rearranged." "Just Like This" is another winning hip-hop and rock entry, while the amusing and memorable "Nookie" (as in "I did it all for the nookie") has self-deprecating lyrics not unlike the Offspring's "Self-Esteem." Bizkit segues with ease from pleasing rock and hip-hop amalgam to spooky Tool territory on "Don't Go Off Wandering" to moshable moments in the entreaty "Show Me What You Got." Significant Other may be hard to categorize, but it's easy to like. --Katherine Turman --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

Made for radio nu-metal. Best Bizkit album. .......2007-05-14
I neither hate or love LB, but I do think they have a talent for writing catchy songs. None of their songs will ever challenge a listener. Everything is very straightforward, mindless fun. I consider them a gimic band. Fred is average at best. Really, the thing that carries this band is Wes Borland's guitar-work. He has a very original sound and comes up with some great guitar riffs. Too bad he is wasting his talent in this band. I'm sure he is happy about all the money they have made, but for an artist like him, it would have to be very stifling, because this album is one big, made-for-radio albatross. It is so obvious what they were trying to do here. They basically sold out. I enjoy this album for the unique, fun-filled event that it is, but it is so one-dimensional that I rarely come back to it anymore. It comes across as a piece of label-created, nu-metal fluff. But, what the heck, I had a lot of good times listening to it at parties back in the day. And that is what it is good for. Mindless fun. Props to Borland for his new band, Black Light Burns. It comes out June 5th, and I am impressed already.
Best album of 1999.......2007-04-18
Everyone seems to hate Fred Durst, but when this came out it was the biggest album around, this is the album that really made nu metal mainstream, korn's freak on a leash brought it to every one's attention, but this is one of the best albums ever made, debuted at no.1. Nookie, RE-arranged, and break stuff are the best three song combo you could ever put together, every song on the album is solid and could be used as a single, i thought they couldve done without n together now, but other than that its solid. One of the best ever made no matter what anyone says, it spawned a whole genre

This CD is incredibly great!!!!! It is lots of fun unlike so much music!! Basically every song on it is great. Stand outs include Just Like this, Nookie,Re-arranged, and break stuff. Really whats not to enjoy on this CD!!

I can proudly say that I was never into this lame excuse for a band. This was definately the WORST band out at the time.
This is the band that all the "cool" kids in the early years of highschool were into, along with fellow posers Linkin Park. All those stupid fools wearing baggy pants with the crotch part down to their knees, with those key chains or whatever they're called hanging out of their side pockets, wearing their stupid baseball caps, imitating their talentless idol Fred Durst. Those people who thought that Blink 182 and Good Charlotte were good punk bands. Y'know, the people who would sacrifice their education, and hence, their future, in favour of running after a ball in a field and dedicating their lives to some stupid teenage fad like skateboarding, which would last around 4 years, and following stupid fads like nu-metal, all to make some fat, bald, CEO, who would fit their definition of "uncool", rich.
Now, back then, I wasn't really into contemporary music. And looking back now, I can understand why. With talentless hacks like Limp Biscuit (notice how bad their name looks when you spell it correctly) infecting the radiowaves with their tuneless drivel, it's no wonder I didn't find it appealing. Of course, back then, I wasn't aware of real bands like Iron Maiden and Hypocrisy and the only good music I could find was classical and videogame OSTs. This all made me feel that I was somehow "abnormal". I mean, how could so many of my classmates be wrong about bands like this? It all made me feel as if there was something wrong with me. But now, having listened to this talentless drivel, I know that there certainly wasn't. In fact, I now know that I was the only normal one there, and it was everyone else that had the problem for liking this load of feces.
OK, perhaps I should explain why anyone who knows the slightest bit about music would realise that this is one of the worst albums ever made.
My first problem is that the whole album is completely devoid of hooks and melody. Even the singles "Nookie" and "Break Stuff", which are widely regarded as the album's best songs, have no hooks in them. The only way to explain how these sold is marketing. For example, Limp Biscuit used to pay radio stations to play their singles (which also makes them some of the biggest hypocrites ever, considering there is a hidden track on this album called "Radio Sucks". Way to bite the hand that feeds you). There is absolutely nothing catchy about these singles. They have absolutely no melody whatsoever. Even I could have written better music when I was 12. The only way to explain their success is their mass exposure.
Now, when an album has no melody and no hooks, it must contain some redeeming factors. Some examples are: speed, brutality, complex instrumental work, good beat, meaningful lyrics. Limp Biscuit has none of these.
Instead, we get an amateur guitarist who can barely play 3 chords (hell, just listen to Break Stuff), a talentless drummer who sounds like a five year old beating the drums with no sense of speed or rhythm, a bassist who's lack of talent is hidden under the annoying, completely unnecessary, scratching of the DJ. And to top it off, some of the worst rapping and singing I have ever heard, and the most immature, meaningless, inane lyrics I have ever seen, courtesy of the worst frontman in rock 'n roll history - none other than the talentless Fred Durst.
Here are some samples of Fred Durst's lyrical genius:
"I did it all for the nookie, come on
the nookie, come on
so you can take that cookie and stick it up your(yea)" - Nookie
"it's just one of those days where you don't wanna wake up
everything is ****** everybody sux
you don't really know why but you wanna justify
rippin someone's head off.
no human contact and if you interact, your life is on contract
your best best is to stay awake mother******
it's just one of those days!!" - Break Stuff
What is the meaning of these lyrics? It means that the standards of modern commercial music are so low that anyone reading this review could become a multi-millionaire in the music business. There is absolutely no clear rhyming pattern in any of their lyrics, and yes, they sound just as awkward when Fred Durst "raps". Speaking of the rapping, Fred Durst has got to be one of the worst rappers I have ever heard. He barely even makes an effort to stay on beat; the only good rapping on this CD comes from Method Man who features on "N 2 Gether Now". Plus his singing is karaoke at best. Fred Durst reminds me of the line from Eminem's diss against Everlast, "Quitter" - "He can't rap or sing, but he wants to do both". Although it was directed at Everlast, I think it perfectly describes Fred Durst.
Many people think Limp Biscuit's early albums, including this one, are actually worth listening to. Having listened to it, I cannot understand how anyone could have liked it in the first place. The fact that this band has sold millions of records speaks volumes about the sad state of the music industry these days. I cannot understand how anyone who has listened to a decent amount of rock music, even other nu-metal bands, could consider this a good album.

Michael, his music and friendship.......2006-03-19
I met Michael during the 1980s when he traveled extensively on AIDS projects and conferences, speaking engagements and also with the FLIRTATIONS. I spent twenty-six years as a massage therapist, and on numerous times that he flew into Dallas-Fort Worth, he would call and ask for an appointment. Not only was he a kind and creative and bright spirit, but he always loved my personal and caring massages. As with all win/win situations, I in turn found a creative mind, clever, genuine and always a sparkle about his life. Along with enjoying his music the rest of my life, I'll always cherish the memories of time spent in his presence.
flawed but still..........2002-08-31
The FLIRTATIONS (Jon Arterton, Michael Callen, Aurelio Font, TJ Myers, and Cliff Townsend) were an openly-gay acapella quartet in 1990 when they released this album, and it is a charming but uneven effort. The singers are obviously talented, and their material ranges from doo-wop to a gospel sound. Some of the tracks are nothing less than delightful -- a gay version of "Surfin' USA" that works better than it seems like it would, and the gentle power of pride in songs like "Everything Possible" and "Something Inside So Strong." Yet some of the tracks sound a bit amateurish, maybe a little sloppy. But all in all, it's very moving and important, and also a lot of fun. And it's one of the few recordings of Michael Callen's remarkable voice and charisma.
Fabulous!.......2000-10-14
This has become my favorite CD after rediscovering the Flirtations a few weeks ago. The songs are all worth listening to over and over again. I thought I wouldn't enjoy it because I don't ever listen to a capella, but they are all so talented that I'm sure instruments would take away from their great sound. The Flirtations should also be hailed for their activism and their ability to mix humor with serious social messages. Anyway, this is a great CD, and I strongly recommend it. Also check out their other CDs, if you get the chance!
Fun, funny a cappella!.......1999-08-31
This cd is one that every a cappella-lover should have in their collection. With lovely ballads (like Breaths and Wallflower), classics (Blue Moon and Lida Rose), and fast or funny tunes (Santa Maria and The Flirt Song), this one has something that everyone will like. Two songs, Everything Possible and On Children, will touch your heart - they're gorgeous! The Flirtations obviously had fun making this one, and it's a great, harmony-packed group of songs - you won't regret getting it.

A MUST-HAVE.......2003-12-01
I first discovered this brilliant singer on television on an HBO special called "Why Am I Gay?" It showed him performing with the a capella group The Flirtations" as well as singing solo on the March on Washington. I first bought "Purple Heart," his first, and lovely album. A few years later, I saw this in a bookstore and HAD to have it. I still consider it one of the BEST albums I have ever heard. Vocally, musically, lyrically, it can compete against any brilliant mainstream (easy listening) album. The man's voice is brilliant (think Elton John meets Barry Manilow), and soothing. The range he has is undisputably one of the finest in the world, certainly surpassing Elton and Barry by light years! "Glitter and Be Gay" [Track 6, Top Disc] is an amazing opera aria which he sings as brilliantly as any female opera diva has ever done it. Amazingly enough, he was very sick during much of this recording, and had more stamina and an even bigger range on Purple Heart. However, the passion and soul in this album far surpasses Purple Heart, and you're left breathless...song after song. Buy the album, close your eyes, and enjoy a voice that could only be described as "blessed."
Treasure It - They Don't Come Around Often.......2003-02-07
I can't ever make it through this album without feeling a profound sense of loss. I was lucky enough to see and listen to Michael Callen in person a few times singing with the "Flirtations," a now defunct a cappella group, and treaure those memories. Here, in a posthumous release of a wonderful "Legacy" of songs, Michael Callen gives you a brief glimpse of a talent lost forever.
His voice is that of a very old soul, wise beyond its years. In every note and syllable warm colors, tones, and memories resonate with an ache and longing that stay with you long after the songs stop playing. There isn't a bad song in the bunch.
The over-all recording quality is excellent -- when you realize that many of the tracks were put down after Michael died, you value these recordings even more. For the most part, Michael's piano/vocal tracks where laid down with other instruments and backup singers added later on -- after sufficient funds were raised to put this album together.
Michael was determined to finish this project before he passed. He was determined to leave a "Legacy" of songs that explored the human condition and touched the soul. We're very lucky he was able to do so.
Not Just a Legacy - A TREASURE!.......2002-10-28
This must be one of the most beautiful albums I have ever heard. This is not just due to Michael's BRILLIANT voice (absolutely incredible) but the writing, musicians, back up singing, it has every ingredient of a Grammy Award winning album. It's too bad it wasn't a mainstream release. Be ready to LAUGH, CRY, and REMEMBER with the intense emotional content brought to life by who must have been one of the greatest male vocalists ever born.... If you aren't the type to past judgement, and just want some brilliant singing and music, this album is for you.
Lost treasure.......2002-02-09
An exquisite singer and fine songwriter, Michael Callen recorded this album with some premiere musicians and singers, along the way showcasing compositions by unheralded but brilliant composers such as Don Yowell, and throughout thriving on the soaring production values of producer Richard Dworkin. By turns ebullient, stirring and heartbreaking, this remarkable album turned out a tribute to Michael, lost to AIDs. There are all sorts of treasures herein, beautifully shining.

Pathetisad.......2007-07-17
Note: This is a copy of the review that I wrote for the explicit version in 2002. The Backstreet Boys reference is a little outdated as is Limp Bizkit, but I still like it.
Limp Bizkit is a joke. Although I am mostly into underground metal, I will admit there are a few decent rap-metal bands out there. Rage Against the Machine are my fave and a very small handful of others have made decent rap-metal. Not Limp Bizkit. Some hate this album just because it's rap-metal, but I hate it just for its absolute lack of songwriting depth. The music really isn't true metal, rather it is simply a mix of pop and rap with moderately heavy guitars added on top. The riffs are simple and uninteresting after just a couple of listens. The song structures are dull and typical of pop. The lyrics are dumb and Fred Durst has to be the most annoying and obnoxious vocalist I have ever heard. (Well, Johnny Rotten may have been more so, but in a good way. Hail the Sex Pistols!) Yes the album is listenable at first but like most pop music its lack of depth completely kills its lasting value. As much as this band rants about pop bands like the Backstreet Boys, they are just as pop and just as depthless. The ending rant is unbelievably ironic considering this band will likely last about as long as the Backstreet Boys, if that long. Rearranged is really the only worthwhile song here and I wouldn't waste my money on this quasi-metal pop junk. Limp Bizkit lovers surely think I'm a total idiot and will continue to worship the band thinking they're the greatest thing in the world, but most of them will eventually agree with me even if they don't see that possibility now. Rate it five stars, but in a few years it will be thrown into the corner with your Vanilla Ice and Menudo CD's. And don't say I didn't tell you so...
Fred Durst's Attempt To Cross Over (Rating: 4 out of 10- -2 stars).......2007-01-31
Although I primary listen to hip hop most of my life, I ocassionally listen to other genres of music. But to be straight up: This album sucks. It sucked back in 1999 and it sucks today.
Lets bust a few myths before I continue:
*Fred Durst is not rap, let alone hip hop. He basically just says words in a fast pace. He barely stays on beat on some of these songs.
*Anyone who says Fred Durst is an excellent lyricist needs to have their hearing checked. Just listen to "Nookie" for a good example.
*I don't listen to heavy metal that much anymore, but just because you hear some heavy drums and loud electric guitars, doesn't make you heavy metal.
Now as for this album, I only find two good tracks on here which are "9 Teen 90 Nine" and "N2Gether Now", only because of Method Man, and DJ Premier. In fact that song was the only reason why I wanted this album back in '99. Everything else sucks. Most of the vocals here are horrible to listen to (even "Rearranged" looses it's momentum after a while). And I agree with one reviewer who says that the drummer John Otto sounds like hes just beating the drums insanely. And I still believe DJ Lethal should have stayed with "House Of Pain" because this band has been dragging his career down.
Overall I can't recommend this album to anyone, unless you are into pop and alternative music (I can barely call this rock). I won't lie, I was about 13 or 14 when this dropped and thought it was awesome. 7 years later, you couldn't pay me to listen to this anymore. Whats even worse is that I bought their next album, which is WORSE than this. My advice, download "N2Gether Now" because I believe that is the best track. Avoid this album all together though.

i have but one thing (maybe two) to say. first: how dare you, Katherine Turman! how *DARE* you compare this lowly peasant-like "rap" rock band to the surrealistic, Godlike Tool. i agree that Don't Go Off Wandering is a pretty good song(especially by Limp Bizkit's standards.) but i can not. and will not! tolerate *ANYONE* comparing LB to Tool. it's like comparing a candle flame (Limp Bizkit) to the *freakin'* sun (Tool). with that being said i personally think that LB started out strong with Three Dollar Bill Y'all. i think that's an excellent cd with highlights such as Counterfeit, Stuck, Sink Finger, and Everything: an incredible 16 and a half minute auditory onslaught. but they plunged severely with Significant Other. there are a few exceptions. like Nobody Like You and A Lesson Learned, plus a few others. but most of the songs on this cd i cannot stand. and i refuse to listen to any of their work after this mediocre excuse for an album. but even so Three Dollar Bill Y'all remains, to this day, one of my favorite cds. it's too bad they didn't stick with the harder, more melodic style. otherwise i'd probably still be a fan.
this was more or less their best album.......2005-09-27
while this is no masterpiece it does stand out as limp bizkits best album thier best songs break stuff and nookie are on this cd. The rest of the cd is ok at best. beyond those two songs in my opinion maybe a few more on other cds limp bizkit, mainly durst, sucks.
Limp Bizkit sucks!!!!!!!!.......2005-07-20
welcome to the limp crapp

Customer Reviews:
An unbeatable import, four edited videos.......2001-08-08
Well, for those of you wondering what an import has that you don't already have, this review will focus on what you don't have. First off, the CD is great, then second within the jewel case there is a bonus disc, containing four tracks. Break Stuff which is already on the album. You get a new track called Crushed, their first hit Faith and finally a remix of Counterfeit which sounds better than the original with a new melody backing Fred's vocals. Finally, there is a huge CD Extra when you put it into your CD ROM, four videos, that are not full screen. The unfortunate thing about the videos is the lyrics are edited (no swears, no middle fingers like on MTV). There is an additional few seconds on each video from the originals on MTV, making this a true collector's item. Five star import all the way, one of the best imports in the world.
Okay, as far as im concerned.......2000-06-13
This cd is okay. But with the data track, it crashes my computer a few times before it works on my computer. But it includes Videos and 2 versions of Break Stuff. Otherwise, no different from the U.S cd. This really isnt as good as the first album, three dollar bill yall$. The music is a little softer this time, and there is more rap in it.
Dope.......2000-06-12
When I first got the Significant Other cd I thought that nothing would ever top it. Then I bought this one seeing it had music videos on it. I bought it and it was like MTV on my computer. I love this one more that Significant Other and I think that everyone should have a copy.
this is a very good cd.......2000-06-12
this import cd by Limp Bizkit is very very good. it is good for many reason but the best reason would be because of the number of good songs on it like: break stuff,, nookie, re-arranged, n 2 gether now, and show me what you got. this cd has more good songs than bad songs unlike many other cd which only have 1 or 2 good songs. i hope my review has some impact on weather or not you purchese it so please do cause its a good one.
GOOD CD.......2000-06-12
THIS CD IS very very good. i enjoyed this cd very much and i suggest you all buy it cause it is that good. the besy songs on it are break stuuf, nookie and re-arranged

Michael at his Glorious Best.......2007-07-01
Every song is a standout with Michael never giving less than 100%. The music offers a glimpse of a time and Michael delivers that time to us with his considerable talent. Listen to the words he sings.
great heart.......1999-05-02
Michael put everything into this album. There's a lot of great music here performed memorably from a distinctly personal viewpoint. Among the standouts are Mike's interpretation of "Small Town Change," written by an artist he adored, Don Yowell. Dick Dworkin's production is standout. A album for all times by a timeless artist.
