In a Big Room

Editorial Reviews
About the Artist
If emo is too emo for you and alternative/rock/metal has started dull your senses with sameness, you might find In a Big Room, by Marigold Engine just the fix to slide you into that comfort zone where you feel like this band has always been your friend & you're just glad that they finally came out with something new for you to groove to.

Whether it's the driving bass on Drive In, or the silky vocals In a Big Room or Virtual's techno-groove there's something here to please anyone.

You're the Lightning, the opening track, is clearly single material with it's spunky U2-like guitar, rich vocals and crisp drums.

Track two, Goodbye, has funky acoustic verses, power chord chorus, and timely lyrics about New York memories. Drive In is just as catchy as You're the Lightning, but In a Big Room is my favorite. It's beautiful ballad feel, clean melody & fresh harmonies are perfectly balanced with airy guitars and fills.

For those who are patient enough to dig deep into the tracks, you'll find the little gem Diva and the disco/rock/techno Virtual, which manages to sound fresh without blowing your head off.

And, as a bonus, you get three tracks from their 2000 EP. Check out this effort from this new band while they're fresh and tryin' hard, and you might just be rewarded with a new band to sit back, enjoy & follow for years to come. -Kevin Valentine, VALENTINE FINE ARTS

Album Description
Rock songs with noticeable influences of electronic bands like Garbage and current U2; add a soulful voice ala Jeff Buckley & Seal, combined with heavy guitars and electronic textures... a fresh sound in alternative rock.

Cynical types will accuse Disney of milking the "greatest" concept until it's drier than Tinkerbell's fairy dust ("Supercalafragilisticexpealidocious," "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Da," and "Heigh Ho" were hits off of Vol. 1; "Bare Necessities," "It's a Small World," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come" stole the show on Vol. 2), but a glimpse of this installment's track listing is all it'll take to squash their suspicions. Once again running reverse-chronologically, Vol. 3 opens with Jonatha Brooke's gorgeously achy ballad "I'll Try," from 2002's arguably not-so-great Return to Neverland, and gradually reaches back through the years to re-raise the curtain on Toy Story 2 ("When She Loved Me," performed by Sarah McLachlan), The Lion King ("Can You Feel the Love Tonight"), Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews's classic "A Spoonful of Sugar"), Pinocchio ("Give a Little Whistle"), and a bundle of treasured others, bottoming out at 1933's "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" from The Three Little Pigs. Vol. 3 is not without its weak moments--would a G-rated movie-goers' poll produce Beauty and the Beast's "Gaston" or The Hunchback of Notre Dame's "Topsy Turvy" on a hits list? Seems unlikely. Still, the bulk of these tracks are, as the included Little Mermaid song goes, "Part of Your World," and the spread of decades they represent proves their staying power. Don't expect Disney to latch the lid on its inexhaustible archives until a dozen or so of these records, each as strong as the next, beckon you back for more. --Tammy La Gorce

This is one of the better volums for kids and for those who are
above 18 but still have some kid in them

5 out of 5 stars Timeless Disney Music.......2007-05-07

Nothing brings sweet recollection of Disney movies like hearing the wonderful songs. In an age where there so much music with no redeeming qualities, these Disney CDs are priceless. Wonderful for the entire family to listen to around the house or in the car while traveling. We can't help but sing along. We love that these are the original tracks from the movies! Wonderful! We now have all three volumes.

5 out of 5 stars Disney songs are the best.......2006-03-18

I love the songs on this volume. I'll Try by Jonatha Brooke is such an amzing somg. I especially bought this CD fort that song but, was pleasantly surprsed by the rest of the playlist.

4 out of 5 stars Great Disney Music.......2006-02-21

I have bought the first 2 volumes of Disney's Greatest Hits and the 3rd volume doesn't disapoint. My 2 young children love to listen to this CD and talk about the movies that they come from. A definate must have!

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as Vol 1 and Vol 2.......2005-09-11

This Disney CD represents the "leftovers" that didn't make it on Vol 1 and Vol 2 of this series. Although it has some of my favorites, I don't listen to the entire CD often. Disney could have done a better job of editing the which sound files should make the cut on this one. Still, it's nice to have all 3 CDs.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Sounding CD.......2005-06-26

One of the greatest successful pleasures of CD shopping, is to dig in the bargain box, and find a $1 album that sounds simply great! Gee, thank you, John Q Public... for not giving this band, better recognition.

Every track on this CD is catchy and well played. My only slight gripe, is the vocals have a Joe Cocker "croak" at times. (Although the lyrics are poetic and interesting to hear.) I gave them 5 stars anyway; it's just such a well-coordinated arrangement of songs.

There are shades of Deep Purple, Eddie Money, U2, and Cheap Trick and The Hooters in the sets. It's versatile and accessible music... more people should give it a chance!

5 out of 5 stars My little secret.......2003-03-05

This band is great... i heard it sold around 40,000 copies.I am one of the 40,000 lucky ones to find this band. They are even better live. I saw them blow away Creed in Albany,Ga. and many other times in the southeast. Best show i have ever seen The Hazies and Cowboy Mouth,at the Music Farm,S.C.

5 out of 5 stars Great Band.......2003-03-02

This is just a fantastic CD. If you ever have an opportunity to see this band live...do it. They are fantastic. They put on a better show than any live band that I've ever seen. Buy this cd and tell a friend.

Warning: The drums at the beginning of the cd in the song "Trip Free Live" will increase your blood pressure and those with heart conditions please listen with caution. Those without heart conditions, crank it... trust me, the only disappointment you'll have is that this is the only CD for the Hazies currently available.

4 out of 5 stars Will Vinnie hit the big time?.......2001-06-10

First of all, let me say that this CD never really got the recognition it deserves. It is a great slab of hard rock, people! You all know the single, "Skin & Bones", which was way ahead of its' time (It was written in 1992, before all of the other stuff that sounded like it came out around '96 or '97), but there's alot more to them than that. There are good party songs like "Dancin' At Seven" and "#1 Slave", beautifully crafted songs like "Spin" and "Effedrin", and some just plain rockin' stuff like "Trip Free Life" and "I'm The One". The rest of it aint too bad either :)

Another thing...I just saw this band live in March of 2001, and it was one of the absolute best rock shows I have ever seen! There weren't many people there, but that didn't stop them from giving us 110%!

The last I heard they were signed with Egg Records, an indie label, and are still negotiating with a few major labels for their upcoming as-yet untitled release. I have pesronally heard most, if not all of the new songs, and they are just as good, if not better than the ones on display in Vinnie's big room. When they do get back on a major label, we can hopefully look for "Vinnie Smokin' In The Big Room" to be re-released as well.

If you can find this one, pick it up! You will not be disappointed!

4 out of 5 stars Great club band rocks the house.......2001-06-06

For being their first major label outing, this is a really great CD. Too bad that EMI folded just after getting this CD out.

4 out of 5 stars Another great trip down the MFU memory lane.......2005-10-19

Volume 2 (comprised of 2 CDs) is another first rate compilation of the series' original music and not to be missed by U.N.C.L.E. fans. The liner notes are wonderful and add a lot to ones appreciation of the music.

My only problem is that THE CDs ARE COPY PROTECTED! Considerable work is needed to get the music onto your iPod, if you really want the music in your mp3 collection. This is a major hassle and a surprise, since the first set in the series was not copy protected.

5 out of 5 stars The best of the three Double CDs ORIGINAL soundtrack release.......2005-07-12

Many of us have always thought The Man From UNCLE had the best music for a TV series ever, and this three double CD release confirms this. Wow! I'd be just happy with one CD, but having SIX (three double CDs packages) is absolutely out of this world, I mean, a lifetime wait come true.

Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.

And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.

Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.

This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.

Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.

So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

2 out of 5 stars extremely poor re-mastering.......2004-12-21

I listen to many (re-mastered) historical recordings. Jeanette MacDonald is certainly one of my most favorite sopranos. For some reason, I haven't been able to find a decent, or even acceptable, re-mastering of her recordings.

While this one certainly contains many valuable tracks, the re-mastering is horrid. The songs sound stripped yet still maintain a great deal of distracting noise. I conjecture that the re-mastering was done simply by increasing the bass and decreasing the treble.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent CD!.......2004-03-29

This is an excellent collection of the Screen Sweethearts of the 30's, Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald, *not* singing together, in the 40's (except for a few of Jeanette's songs).

For Jeanette, it has numbers from Up In Central Park: Carousel in the Park, It Doesn't Cost You Anything to Dream, Close as Pages in a Book, Fireman's Bride, The Big Back Yard, When You Walk in the Room. She and Robert Merrill sing these together and on their own, and very charmingly, too. There are also Love Me Tonight, Isn't It Romantic, and Beyond the Blue Horizon.

For Nelson, he sings music from The Student Prince with Rise Stevens: Golden Days, Drinking Song, Deep in my Heart Dear, Serenade (which is BEAUTIFUL!), Just We Two, and Come Boys. He also sings all the songs from Northwest Outpost - thankfully, without Ilona Massey! Also, the Willie the Whale segment from Make Mine Music is on this CD - just as it is in the movie, with the narration and everything - it's great! (The Tristan und Isolde part is not included, however - not sure what the reasoning is behind that.) He also sings a duet with Jane Powell - Why Do I Love You? from Show Boat.

I say this is a must for fans of Nelson and/or Jeanette, not to mention Rise Stevens!

I particularly enjoy "When You Walk in the Room". It's a charming little tune, with ridiculous but adorable lyrics! "Fireman's Bride" is very funny also - Jeanette barely sounds like herself!

I hope this will help others to choose this CD - it's a pity there's not a list of the titles here!

4 out of 5 stars Nelson Eddy on CD - always a pleasure.......1998-08-30

It's always a pleasure to find Nelson Eddy's wonderful voice on CD and this one has some of the harder-to-find pieces in it, including collaborations with Jane Powell and the wonderful mezzo Rise Stevens. The recording of "The Whale Who Sang at the Met" is a must for any collector as are the excellent recordings (better than on the movie) for "Northwest Outpost". The baritone singing opposite Jeanette MacDonald also has an excellent voice (though his name temporarily escapes me)

      5 out of 5 stars F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C.!.......2006-02-02

      I've got the original music (including v2 and v3), the books (the best is Heitland's The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Book; still in print);
the 22 VHS tapes issued in the early 1990's (a haphazard collection issued in no particular order of episodes that boasted famous guest stars). Can I please get the whole series on DVD? I have not seen Mother Fear toying with Illya (The Children's Day Affair) in over 40 years.

5 out of 5 stars At LAST the complete series ORIGINAL soundtrack, the wait is over!.......2005-07-12

It has been 2 months since I have put this into my car CD player, and I am just unable to take it out. 1st track You're the Lightning is the ultimate radio ready song on this album, not that it's the only one. Goodbye and Drive In make fantastic follow ups to that, I wonder when they will leave my head during the day so that I can concentrate at work. In a Big Room, with it's highly exciting vocals and yummy guitars, and Sorry seal the fate of this fantastic self-made record. Jackpot buy if you love Freddy Jones, Seal or Garbage.

I love this cd! I'm glad to find a band that has actual good songs with meaning to them. The songs have good beats and they have depth. I'm so proud that my cousin gets to be a part of this great band. Congratulations Eric! Much Love from your cousin in Wisconsin.

I saw Chris While perform with the Albion Band in 1993. I immediately bought a tape of hers the band was selling and have kept an eye out for any music of hers that I can find in this country. She is a wonderful artist. You will be sure to love this music.
