Customer Reviews:
Good Muddy, not much Dizzy.......2001-06-19
My main point in writing this review was to say that this album should not be listed under Dizzy Gillespie. Dizzy is on one song, and plays a few notes on another. If you want Muddy Waters, this is a good album, and certainly worth the money. If you want a Dizzy Gillespie album, you've come to the wrong place.
Oh If Only..........2000-07-15
The energy on this cd is outstanding. The real disapointment however is the sound quality. There is a guitar that is very low in the mix, and it is a strain trying to hear it, which is a shame. The songs are all great one after the other,oh only if it had better sound.I would rate this 5 stars if the mix was better, because the music is first rate all the way.
Great songs, Great recording, Great price!.......2000-07-15
Laserlight Digital is a trademark of Delta Entertainment. Delta enters into licensing arrangements with various blues, classica, pop, holiday and world music catalogs and is the premier budget-priced label known for releasing compilations.
While the songs on this CD are available on several other Muddy Water's discs there are a couple of things that make this disc attrative. First, the inclusion of the two numbers which include the performance of Dizzy Gillespie, "Kansas City" and "How Long" is a very nice touch. Secondly, the digital remastering job is exceptional. Last but not least, while all of these songs are available elsewhere, buying them on this disc certainly can't be beat.
6 Bucks---Are you kidding me?.......2000-05-20
If you don't own this album, you don't know what you are missing. A compilation of two nights early in Muddy's career, the song list is incredible. The addition of Dizzy, although for only a few songs is legendary. Any time two legends get together you know magic will happen. Buy this disc and enjoy some real music!
6 dollars? Does it have Muddy on it? I'll take it........1999-10-24
This album is what I refer to as "Muddy's Cocktail Blues Album." The sound is completely laid back with a bouncy rhythm, laid down by the master himself. I own all of Muddy's Chess recordings, and this is nothing like them. His Chess sides range from nail biting rawness, to mud stomping gaity, but rarely totally smooth. This captures the smoother side of Muddy. Cocktail blues. This album is Muddy as I have never heard him. It sounds almost serene, or jazzy mood-wise, but this is straight blues. And for six bucks plus shipping, who could resist? It's Muddy for goodness sakes. The only downfall, Dizzy Gillespie appears on two tracks, and he hurts my ears.
