About the Artist
Formed in the early 90's Caliche Con Carne is helmed by James Jordon a regular on the Tucson Punk and Underground music scene for over 12 years. The band has performed with many great Country artists like Split Lip Rayfield, Rex Hobart, The Sadies, and other regulars in the Bloodshot Alt Country scene. Caliche combines this Country sensitivity with a south of the border influence to form it's own unique blend of authentic styles.

Hank, Don't take my rejection out on the band .......2007-02-10
Hey, Hank, no soul? I think you mean no soul for sale, hijueputa! There must be someone out there for you but disparaging malevolence is so undecorous...I have a few petty criticisms of "Cyclops"- it was my first real recording studio experience, did ya notice? took me a wink to unwind, I have issues with the gringo drumming (still love you bob!) on "25 de Octubre".
But if a little buckshot'll scare you away from the spit, if your horse is too skittish for the unbeaten glory of ramblin' desert canyons, if you need steppin' stones to cross the crik, if a slinkin, swervin' scrape in and about the borderlands where ya might have to squeeze thru a hole in a fence to taste a new breeze borrowin the same old scenery or to run your fingers along the unfamiliar limbs twistin thru the mesh of 2 or 3 cultures aclashin' and aclingin' to each other for life or death ain't your bag, if our mixed-blood bias and country-bumptious heave 'n hitch finds you face down and slack-jawed to a couple of hornytoads acourtin' 'neath the wolfberries, Caliche Con Carne will lend you a jackknife and bandana for that sand in your teeth and that sweat in your eye. Giddy'UP!
We'll wait up for ya.

Derivative; completely berefet of real talent musically outside of studio quality technicality. Vocals are tolerable. No Soul. ...Go buy the ppl. this band says influenced them, for much less. Get some Bob Wills, some George Jones, and some Conway Twitty fer Chrissake.
Invigorating as a fresh batch of homemade hillbilly hooch!.......2002-08-13
Not since Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, or Patsy Cline has country music been this poetic, prolific, and downright heart-warming. Caliche Con Carne skillfully constructs a rural musical melange that effervescently swings from whiskey-soaked Appalachian mountain music to southwestern Tex-Mex festivity to Deep South backwoods bluesiness to rowdy holy-roller revivalism. The toe-tappin', knee-slappin' ditties contained herein are as pure, authentic, and invigorating as a fresh batch of homemade hillbilly hooch. My ears are undeniably hooked on the angelic, honey-drenched vocals of Raquel Mogollon (her voice is sultry, sweetly titillating, and full of sensuous womanly charm). The down-home vocal drawl of James Patrick Jordan perfectly complements Raquel's syrupy, paradisiacal harmonies, making me all giddy and euphoric way deep down inside. The swampy, slithering slide-guitar fierily sizzles in a big ol' boiling vat of brash acoustic-guitar rhythms. The jaunty mandolin-pickin' swagger of Schwami Lee, robust jug-puffing bass lines of Enrique Baldon, and rootin'-tootin' double-time drum beats of Roberto Duggan exquisitely intertwine to create a pristinely blended collage of rustic, spirit-rousing sonic pleasantness. I'm absolutely 100% enthralled with this musically picturesque disc! Now all I want to do the remainder of this long, hot summer evening is relax on the back porch, slowly imbibe a few beers, blast the splendorous pastoral tunes of Caliche Con Carne, and feverishly dance a jig with Mother Nature. Ain't life grand!
