Peter Nevland didn’t even think of writing anything until he came to the University of Texas in 1993 to study Mechanical Engineering. When he did start writing, what came out ended up being somewhere between a song and spoken word, not tied to a particular beat, but improvising around the rhythms that are generated by his exploding imagery and creative word choice. I have seen Peter Nevland live twice, I've exchanged personal emails with him, and held actual conversations with him. He is a great person, and doesn't use foul language in his music at all. I have no idea why Amazon says that this album has explicit lyrics, but people, I can personally guarantee you that it doesn't. I have seen him and his guitarist, Paul Finley, twice and they are an amazing duo. Peter is definetely, as he would describe himself, the "White Jive King", and his guitarist Paul is literally one of the most amazing guitarists I've EVER SEEN OR HEARD, and I've heard MANY, MANY guitar players. He has the most comprehensive and deep knowledge of everything about his Limited Edition Washburn acoustic-electric guitar, whom he calls Mary (making a pun out of Peter, Paul, and Mary). They do a completely new and almost unheard of genre of music called spoken groove. It's the most unique concept I've ever heard, and on CD, I'll admit, it gets a little irritating, but once you see it live, you'll love it. This album just have vocals I believe, so I suggest waiting to go see a live show of theirs and purchasing the "Spoken Groove" Album. It's blue, and has twenty-something songs on it. It's the essential spoken groove collection.

Ignore the explicit lyrics warning, it's posh. Enjoy the music, kiddos.

I actually have not heard this cd. But I went to one of his concerts where Peter Nevland and Paul Finley worked together. It was awesome!!! Evidently Amazon marked his cds with the "explicit lyrics" label. I wanted to say that, these are NOT bad lyrics...this guy is a strong Christian. Anyway, I don't know about this cd--it's probably great. One that I know is great, though, is his cd "Acoustic Spoken Groove" with Paul Finley. Sadly, Amazon doesn't have it.

Hey I just wanted to say that these are not explicit lyrics like Amazon says--this guy is a strong Christian. Anyway, read the first dude's review...he summed it up pretty well in his first paragraph.

Peter Nevland is hard to describe. Exuberant. Colorful. Explosive. Peter writes and performs it in a way that you'll never forget; an extremely intelligent and sensitive stream-of-consciousness outgush, rush, push through the slush sort of "Jack Kerouac" thing, except that Peter has already found what Jack spent his whole life searching for. Personally, I think of Peter Nevland as the antidote to gansta rap. But don't be looking for any Mickey Mouse ears. Peter Nevland has seen the underbelly of society, he just chooses not to celebrate it.

Most people think "Mud Slide Slim" was James Taylor's first LP, but true collectors know that James was originally discovered by 4 guys with funny haircuts who recorded and published his inaugural album, "James Taylor," simply because they liked his music. It was the first album ever produced by John, Paul, George and Ringo on Apple Records.

Some day in the not-too-distant future, this CD is going to be like that; a true collectible; Peter's original homemade compilation produced by his brilliant brother, David, in the borrowed recording studio of a friend.

Listen to the CD and you'll agree - "This kid is gonna be famous."

Buy it. You'll listen to it a million times. I promise.
