3 out of 5 stars great but unnecessary.......2005-04-10

Let me make clear that I love the Buzzcocks. They are probably still in my ten-favorite-bands-ever list. But this expensive single disc is in fact available as half of the double-disc set "Beating Hearts" which costs way less than this! Makes no sense at all.

So, I suggest you buy "Beating Hearts" which has ths whole show, plus a different show from the Manchester Apollo, Dec. 14th 1978. Although be forwarned, the tape speed on the Manchester show is noticably fast, resulting in everything sounding speeded-up and higher pitched - it's too bad unfortunate that nobody bothered to fix that in the CD transfer.

In any case, this show from 1979 captures the band in top form, with great song selection. It's a first-rate live punk album from the best punk/power pop band ever. But buy "Beating Hearts" and save some money.

5 out of 5 stars thanks both of you.......2005-07-03

My brother stumbled on these reviews a few days ago. Hilarious. Taken together they sum up the reaction to our band over the years. To those looking for sweet and superficial harmony, Ritual Tension was talentless indeed. I would only add in defense that although the Eagles sound was generally too saccharine for my taste, we covered "Hotel California" because the writing is first rate, both musically and lyrically, and we thought we could bring new insight to it. In other words, even though our approach was "art-core" or post-punk, we worked the material with respect. (Our choice also had to do with the fact we were living in New York, with all that doggoned cacaphony, but had grown up in California.) Anyway, it's nice to be misunderstood and understood in print again. For the record, I'm making music again, this time with guitar in hand, and even trying for sweetness this time. Not too much, but a bit, anyway. Cheers, Ivan

1 out of 5 stars hmm.. how do i say this gently...........2003-02-10

The only emotion I find welling up in response to this group's "sound" is dismay... dismay at the dreadful rendition of "Hotel California", one the the greatest songs of all time and an Eagles masterpiece, and dismay at the possibility of such a talentless group ever getting their work on a marketable cd (is it really marketable, have any copies been sold?). I mean, seriously, in this day and age of free music downloads, would anyone in their right mind think to purchase such a heap of cacophanous discord? I suppose if one listened long enough to these "songs" one's mental capacity might actually devolve to the point of thinking this was good stuff!! ughh

5 out of 5 stars SORRY STROKES FANS!.......2001-12-08

See my review of Expelled. The I Live Here album originally came out in 1984 or 1985 and the Hotel California EP (3 songs) in 1986, both on vinyl only. This CD reissue combines both releases and it's definitely worth picking up. Social Climber and the band's darkly beautiful mutilation of the Eagles' Hotel California are NYC post-punk classics.

Btw, I think the NYC bands from this era were the logical inheritors of the sounds pioneered by Lou Reed/Velvets, Iggy, P. Smith & Richard Hell. (Sorry Strokes fans!)

    3 out of 5 stars Transitional AOTO.......2006-10-31

This short and surprisingly minimalistic EP marks the turning point in the band's 7 year carreer. Everything's been stripped down to it most rarified form in an attempt to prove (as much to themselves as to their fans) that they're songwriting is just as strong without all the production that marks their previous two releases. This EP was the set up for the return to grander things and is also the closest you'll ever hear to what the band sounded like live.

4 out of 5 stars Rock and or Roll.......2006-10-31

One part loveable and one part odd, this band succeeded in rocking and rolling with a different flavor. Somewhere trapped between mainstream rock and indie rock, AOTO treads the line quite tastefully. Great guitar lines and slamming drums. Of 4 official releases this disc is their most raw and also has some of the tightest rhythmic elements of their career. Grab it and love it.

    4 out of 5 stars Ambitious.......2006-10-30

This is an ambitious third release by the now-defunct MA/NJ rock and roll quintet. Awesome song writing with an honest, emotional delivery. An all-around great EP.
