Eastside

Editorial Reviews

This Midwestern group hails from Madison but incorporates influences from many parts of the globe. Listening to Sunshine Allison, one is tempted to classify them as World Music, but as soon as that thought forms, the group comes back with a straight-ahead rock track. ... Of all the local promotional packages to come through the Max Ink office, Sunshine Allison's ranks as one of the best. These guys have the music and the organization to make a national splash.

About the Artist
Sunshine Allison formed in Madison, WI in 1992 to an enthusiastic University following. Since then they have moved beyond the vague term of "college rock" to tread a new path between fusion, world music and popular rock. The dynamic rapport between the three players in Sunshine Allison has been cultivated through consistent regional touring. The new CD, Eastside boasts a growing interest from college and mainstream radio as well as positive feedback from critics. They are primed to make a... read more

Album Description
Eastside is a diverse blend of pop, rock, jazz and world music that appeals to a wide variety of listeners.

Although not devoid of guitars (mandolin, violin), the CD's main keyboard-bass-rhythm focus offers a refreshing divergence from the norm. Overdriven Rhodes complemented with six-string (and 4-string fretless) bass are mixed with world grooves and create a wide, full sound.

4 out of 5 stars Relax and Enjoy.......2006-12-22

I would like to start by saying that this is NOT the best rap album I have ever heard. The rhymes are just silly, and at times nonexistent. This is basically 78 minutes of noise. However, that is no reason to give the album a bad review. From looking over previous reviews, it seems to me that the point of this album and crunk music in general has been lost on the majority of listeners. Anyone who honestly thinks that Lil Jon was out to create a classic album is downright clueless. These types of albums aim for two simple things. First, to create music that is fun to listen and dance to. Second, to make money. Lil Jon has succeeded massively in both respects. The production on Kings of Crunk, and on all Lil Jon tracks and albums, is fantastic. The beats are extremely complex and energetic, and his guest vocals are always well done. Furthermore, Lil Jon has built an entire business around his persona, making millions off of music, videos, apparel, and even pimp cups. Anyone claiming that Jon is stupid really needs to reconsider which takes more intelligence: making millions off a multimedia empire or working the register at Wal-Mart. I believe that Lil Jon makes some of the best party music around (although certainly not the best hip-hop ever), and makes no pretenses about trying to do anything more. I would thoroughly encourage anyone interested in a good party album to pick this up.

3 out of 5 stars He Builds And Destorys All In One Album.......2006-12-01

Kings Of Crunk can be viewed on a few different levels and get mixed emotions. It can be felt a little better by people that have been around crunk from the beginning, since they they understand what it's all about. Being from the east I feel lyricism and beats need to be on point together to be a perfect song or a perfect album but this album is way off. Every beat on Kings Of Crunk is perfect; Jon did a nice job of creating these beats. He was so close to having a perfect album, first song is Ok and then Knockin Heads Off comes on which I think is the best song and sets the album off right. Then after a while you hear one too many words coming out of Jon's mouth and he messes up the flow of the album. It took a minute for me to fully realize why Jon shouts over the beat the way he does and it's because he's trying to get everybody crunk but when your more annoying than Dj Clue constantly talking over the beat it's time to stop. Great production but it could have been great if he just got more guest appearances instead of trying to do vocals himself. On the other hand if you're the club type or you like a little music to get it hype where you at then this is that album.

5 out of 5 stars Pump it up.......2006-11-11

If you like a cd that can get you dancing and hyped up, then this the one! Know matter how old it gets it will still make you want to dance and act a fool. The music is great and some of the lyrics actually make since. My favorite is Throw it up! It's a great song to listen to while playing dominoes and saying "quarterhorse"

4 out of 5 stars Kings Of Crunk .......2006-08-26

I don't lil jon is the king of crunk, that belongs to Three 6 Mafia but oh well. People hate this album because he does not rhyme, they haven't relized he does not do they rappin he makes hot choruses and hooks and leaves the guests to rap. This album is all party music not legitament rap. get this if you wanna have fun and party if you lookin for lyrics this ain't it. best songs are I Don't Give a F***, Rep Yo City, BME Click, Knockin Heads Off, and Throw It Up.

1 out of 5 stars TAKE THE TIN FOIL OFF YOU TEETH!!!!!!.......2006-08-15

We're not impressed with you wearing tinfoil on you teeth calling them "grills". This guy has to have one of the most annoying voices I've ever heard. He's the same as every other rapper. Pretends he's something he's not and puts it in his music. Who cares about "crunk".

I went to WalMart one day and saw The Red Light District and Kings of Crunk on a shelf. I was so exited I begged and begged my mammy and pappy to buy them and finally got them but when I listened to it I was mad that I got the clean CD because it just doesn't sound right you know. But it's still freakin' pimp.

5 out of 5 stars Natalie Williams > Joss Stone.......2007-01-22

Remember a few years ago when everyone hyped Joss Stone like she would become the next big thing in blue-eyed soul?

...Joss Stone, she of the "over-sing until you sound like you're about throw-up" school of soul-singing. Yeah.

Well, this girl here is the next thing.

Big? Perhaps not. But her arrangements and vocals are that wonderful bouncy, love-pop, boho, neo-soul, thing done quite well.

Her voice isn't particularly unique, but it's beautiful and she knows how to use it. That counts more than a bombastic voice that's oversung (Christina Aguilera, Joss Stone, I'm talking to you).

...And she's not just "good for a white girl". She's good, period.

If you're looking for something new and a bit under the radar, pick this CD up.

John Gold is a refreshing artist whose mellow tracks and melodic voice will relax you the minute you turn this cd on. Youll become addicted to his unique sound and clever lyrics. "Cactusflower", "It's going", and "Songsinger" jump out at you when you first start listening to the cd. But youll come to love the other songs just as much the more you listen to it!! I'm totally addicted and it gets better every time I listen to Eastside Shake.
