3 out of 5 stars Songs are OK but no pause in between tracks.......2007-04-10

I like about 2/3 of the songs while the rest are so so. What I don't like about this album is that there is no pause between tracks which sounds a bit strange if you are just listening and not dancing to it.

4 out of 5 stars Good Songs.......2002-01-22

This is a really good CD with good songs. I liked a lot of the songs that I remembered from when my older brother and sister would play the radio when I was little. The songs are good, and of good quality. They are blended together and mixed well, so if you like it when songs are blended, this CD is good for you. If you don't like it, I wouldn't recommend the CD, because they are all mixed. This CD included some of my favorite songs, like Total Eclipse of the Heart and Runaway, so I was thrilled, but all of the songs are great.

5 out of 5 stars Great Dance CD - a real keeper.......2000-07-02

My co-workers are so fed up of me and my dance cds, because my desk drawer is filled with them. Now they ahve more reason to be peeved with me because I literally play this thing for the full 8 hours I'm at work. People will ask me if I'm not tired of listening to the same thing over and over but never have I had a collection of dance tracks like this one that have me clicking repeat on my cd player. This CD is so awesome. The songs blend perfectly into one another and the choices for the cd wer phenomenal...I couldn't have picked them better myself...BUY IT, BUY IT BUY IT. I wasn't disappointed and you won't be either

5 out of 5 stars My Review.......2000-04-13

I bought this CD, and I loved it! This CD I would recommend this cd to all Dance Teachers, who need some music for there dance rectials. Everyone will love it to, It's great music for people taking jazz dancing!

5 out of 5 stars Best Dance Mix CD Ever!.......2000-04-13

You get more great dance tracks per dollar spent on this collection than you're likely to find anywhere else. Some of these are hard to find on other collections as well such as the great dance mix of Zombie by A.D.A.M. featuring Amy. Anyway this one is definitely a keeper and probably the one essential dance cd in your collection! For a good companion piece to this one with no repeat tracks check out Dance Superstars of the 90s! Together they make one awesome party!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2005-05-16

I'm generally a punk and death/speed/thrash metal fan, but I love this CD. As the other reviewer said, the closest English-speaking band you can think of to equate this band to is The Clash. Every song is catchy and fun; every song is equally as good as the others, which is a rare thing. They have a good portion of pop punk on this CD as well as a few blues-type songs, all of which are great. The pop punk is good, well-thought-out, as opposed to modern American pop punk. Japanese Clash is the easiest way to describe their sound.

The price may be high, but this CD is worth it. Pick it up now no matter what kind of music you like. You're sure to enjoy it.

4 out of 5 stars True, True.......2003-08-06

They call this CD Super Best, and it's a good survey of the Blue Hearts' career. If you've never heard them before, they're a kinda poppy punk band that got their start in the eighties, and the nearest English-language band I can think of is The Clash. Fun songs, with a few English words sprinkled here and there, and good rock music, even playing some harmonica on a couple of bluesier numbers. The price is a little steep, I guess, but a really good CD, I listen to it a lot.

Perhaps you can't relive your past, but for Eric Andersen escape is no option. In these 13 songs--sung in a desolate whisper, played like a seance at Parchman Farm--Andersen, who Bob Dylan has called "a great ballad writer," pursues his darkest memories with one ear cocked to the Delta, the other listening for "the wisdom of Job ... old as the devil." Andersen recorded half of the album in New York and half in Mississippi: Artie Traum picks sparkling lines and Lucy Kaplansky adds sweet harmonies on the acoustic New York material, while a small combo of blues musicians--including legendary drummer Sam Carr and slide guitarist Kenny Brown--add a haunting and muscular electric groove on the Delta cuts. There are also notable writing collaborations with Lou Reed, who cowrites and sings on the title track, and four songs penned with Townes Van Zandt--brooding meditations on mortality imaged in snakelike roads and meadowlark laments. Easy listening? No, but essential for devotees of songwriting at its darkest and deepest. --Roy Kasten

    Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Not As Focused as He Usually Is.......2003-02-02

Eric Andersen is a great writer with a terrific baritone voice that infuses a sense of haunting melancholy into his songs. It is a great, great instrument in the service of his folk or Norwegian heritage material, but somehow isn't quite the ticket for the blues based in Northern Mississippi. The several tracks here recorded with Sam Carr, Super Chickan and Kenny Brown, all colleagues of R. L. Burnside, just down come across as anything other than noble efforts. The songs themselves don't really fit Burnside's posse anyway, but it somehow seems that once you take this music off the porch and put it in a studio, the sanitization takes something away. Andersen is a good bit more erudite than Burnside, and that actually doesn't help. Burnisde and the Northern Mississippi heritage are ever and always about that feral moan, at times deeply painful at times sexually playful. The collaboration with Townes Van Sandt is the best of these tunes. The other "blues" numbers are respectful but not convincing. This is blues music for people who go to folk festivals and think somehow they're gettin down. I guess....

Which brings us back to the other tunes, all of which are terrific songs, with the possible exception of the title track, aided and abetted by Lou Reed, and that's not a good thing either. Lou is fine in Lou's world. Out of that, he tends to leaden the proceedings, and he's no harmonist. Elsewhere Lucy Kaplansky is just amazing, and that seems to underscore how overlooked she is. Her efforts with Eric's songs are absolutely what is required. The standout track here is "Meadowlark", a nostalgic recollection of the road north to Canada. Everything about this piece is filled with Eric's remarkable craft, and the longing for one's home is especially poignantly delivered.
So, this is a disc that somewhat suffers from trying to be too many things. At the time of its release, Burnside was in ascendancy on the music radar, but it's one thing to respect that world, and sometimes you should leave it at that.

4 out of 5 stars Passionate blues CD.......2001-02-28

This artist was previously relatively unknown to me; at about the same time as I bought this CD I realized the importance of the blues to the music of the Woodstock Era. There are an abundance of riches here, one of the least noticed of which may be the backing female vocal. The CD is evenly divided into blues and other songs; the two best blues songs, "Night Train" and "Gonna Go Crazy" are also funny while a third, "The Blue March," tries to be a major work about New Orleans and falls a little short in my opinion. But there is much more. There are the two opening songs, each of which is a song of considerable merit. There are two minor-keyed ballads, "Meadowlark" and "The Road"; there are three other songs of considerable passion: "Dear Mama", "Cold Country" "Magdalena" and also several other blues songs.

    5 out of 5 stars A great album!.......2000-07-10

This was my first dive into the Eric Anderson catalog. Boy, what a find. This guy is really good. He is helped along on one track by Lou Reed. He is a good singer with some decent musicianship. This is a strong album and I'm looking forward to purchasing more CD's by Anderson.

5 out of 5 stars Best Album I Have Heard This Year........2000-06-02

I'm going to go out on a limb, and say this may be the best work Eric Andersen has ever done. Beautifully written, hauntingly performed with some of his best singing ever. The folk-oriented songs are some of the strongest & most mature he's written, while the blues songs are a bold experiment (and how many artists with a 35-year-career behind them are still experimenting?) that pay off beautifully. More people deserve to know about this one...any fan of Eric Andersen, Townes Van Zandt, Dylan, or any kind of folk/blues music will love this. Buy it...you won't regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Another delightful masterpiece.......2000-03-21

Eric Andersen has struck gold with You Can't Relive the Past. I love the variety of song styles, and my favorite song is "Eyes of the Immigrant", both for its theme and its gorgeous lyrics and melody. Its opening reminds me of "Moonchild River Song" from years back. Every Eric Andersen fan should buy this CD immediately-it's great!

5 out of 5 stars Whoa! Yet Another Damned Greatest Hits.......1999-06-02

Well, seeing as how it's not yet released, and thus I don't actually own the disc, a 'review' would be a bit of a stretch. But hey! It's a new Damned disc! And I'm a Damned Disciple, so my order is in.

What will it be? Why, yet another rework of twenty years' work! Will we get anything new and different? Not likely! Am I excited? Oh my yes!

My only regret is that my money is almost certainly going to de-frocked ex-drummer Rat Scabies, and not the deserving Vanian and Sensible. Mr. Scabies, it appears, has somehow run off with a sizeable chunk of the copyrights and so forth. It's a Damned shame.

4 out of 5 stars Solid songwriting and a tight, rocking band.......2002-01-25

I have the same problem as many other fans of Fury--they can't be compared to anyone. REM? Neil Young? Matthew Sweet? All right, and all wrong.
I've given away dozens of copies of MONO and this album to try and spread the word about this incredible group, and that seems to work better than all my attempts to tell my friends "Well, they're kind of like..."
I love Rush, Warren Zevon, Jethro Tull...and all of those bands have something at their heart I feel in Fury.
Enough babbling--these boys are the real deal...rock and roll. It is truly evidence of the shameful state of the modern music biz that these guys are not HUGE.
(Note--I'd rate this 5 stars but the muzak remix of Radio Orchid is a blight on this album. I even burned a replacement CD with it excised for my set.)

4 out of 5 stars A very good album to get into Fury.......2001-06-12

'Super Fury' is a compelation which will please absolutely anyone who likes good music. It's a collection including all of FITS's hits making it very easy for a first-time listener to get to know Fury. It has to be said, however, that it offers very little for old fans like myself who have already bought the majority of their albums. The included re-mixes of the band's biggest hits offer something new but are in no way as good as the originals. I would have rated this album higher had the band put more effort in these re-mixes. Never the less, this is still a very good album and I sencerely recommend it (especially to those people out there who have never had the pleasure of listening to Fury in the Slaughterhouse).

5 out of 5 stars The ultimate conversational Fury.......2000-08-22

Fury in the Slaughterhouse, I think, are the best rock band in the world right now, with a diverse collection of influences and a ton of musical styles. It's impossible to catagorize Fury, but they're a sort of decadent German rock that takes the best of U2, INXS, Echo & The Bunnymen and The Rolling Stones, blends them all together and comes up with something totally new and inventive. "Super Fury" is the best compilation to tell you how big of a Fury fan you are. If you want to get a sampling of the band to decide if you're one of the hardcore like the rest of us, this is it. If you want to know what the band sounds like on some of its best songs, this is it. I can't highly recommend this album enough. If I went to a desert island, this is one of the two albums I'd take with me. It's just that good. Buy it now. Absolutely now. Make Fury as popular here in the states as they are in their homeland of Germany.

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful collection but not perfect.......2000-06-29

I've always thought Fury's music deserved better recognition in the United States. It's sad that very few have ever heard of the band at all.

This is probably the best collection of Fury songs you will ever be able to find in one place. However, it's not perfect. I would rather have had more normal songs included instead of the remixes. One or two of the remixes aren't bad but they seem out of place on the album. More material from the Brilliant Thieves album would have made this perfect. However, if you want to buy one album that represents what Fury is about this would be a great start.

I'd easily give this 5 stars if the song selection had been just slightly better.
