Parasites
Editorial Reviews
Vital Weekly, 2002
Interesting and of high musical quality as always
Tobias V, Incursion, March 31, 2002
A succinct and playful album of experimental madness which
does not force the listener into obscurity.
Album Description
This improv duo creates a new generation of Parasites! Labrosse has given up referencial phrases and works only with abstract elements while Tétreault has abandoned the use of LPs and turned to the turntables intrinsic sound potential.

Album Description
Death Metal's rules are being re-written by bands like Brain Drill performing insanely technical drums and guitars working together to blow fans away. Not only are the tracks amazingly difficult to play, but catchy as well, similar to the combination bands like Cannibal Corpse yet still as complicated as Necrophagist. The trio began as a side project for guitarist Dylan Ruskin of Burn at the Stake but is now his main band. The band hails from terrifying hills of Ben Lomond, CA offering a brutal undertaking much like a psycho circus reflecting the darkest depths of humanity. At the forefront of their genre and as complex as they are, Brain Drill looks to rise to the top of the Metal charts with the Metal Blade and Prosthetic Records bands.
Customer Reviews:
Freaking crazy!!!.......2006-12-14
This band was the opening act at a Cannibal Corpse/Dying Fetus show I saw. They were freaking incredible! The speed of the drums and the frantic energy of the guitars blow my mind. The style of the vocals is pretty interesting too. The vocals don't always come in where you would expect. The vocals sound very sharp and intense. It's stuff like this that makes death metal so freaking cool.

Album Description
From the streets of Echo Park, LA come Society's Parasites - loud, fast, and pissed off. Playing punk rock in the classic vein of muscular bands like Void, MDC, and The Stains, they've been tearing up the LA punk rock scene since 1997, coming to the attention of Hellcat's Tim Armstrong. With influences ranging from Rancid, Antidote, and Filth to Muddy Waters, Society's Parasites have produced something unique, with guitar licks and bass riffs that most punk bands won't even attempt. Prepare yourself for an album's worth of two-minute thirty-second blasts of mayhem. For fans of The Casualties and The Unseen.
Customer Reviews:
One of the most frantic, well-developed punk albums in a long time.......2007-07-03
Tim Armstrong hand picked Society's Parasites from seeing them perform live to have their debut CD be put out on Hellcat Records. Tim Armstrong does not screw around when it comes to recognizing and developing true talent in music today. Just one look at the Hellcat roster will tell you that straight away. Society's Parasities, hailing from Los Angeles, throws down the gauntlet on the new breed of punk.
A 1:10 intro, a 1:16 outro, and 13 songs totaling a breakneck 21:28. If you don't have these 24 minutes to devote to destroying everything within a 50 yard radius, then you might not want to attempt this CD.
Freddy and Vince throw guitar riffs down that are nothing short of ferocious. Half of these riffs could probably eat you, and your cat, and your dog...and maybe your sister. Mean, slicing guitar riifs, combining a much-more polished version of Capitalist Casualties with some elements that could even be considered taken from the blues themselves, riffing and scales with a very distinct swing and movement to them. With these riffs, most punk bands can't even compare at half-speed. These cats are a new class of accomplished musicians, bringing punk back it's credibility.
Andy's bass lines approach the level of Matt Freeman from Rancid, whose walking bass lines are nothing short of stunning. Andy plays these high caliber riffs at the fastest possible speed, and they accent every passage flawlessly.
Jimmy knows his drums well, and likes kicking the crap out of them. Fast, strong drumming that has a very tight, focused energy to it. He sets the frantic pace for the rest of the members, and never relents from pulling off ridiculous fills at the most appropriate time.
Vocally, Freddy has a sinister sneer that lacks no energy or conviction. He sounds like a further scratched up Lars Fredericksen. The gang vocals are not overdone, but added at the best possible time, with Jimmy and Andy filling out the rest of the vocal work.
In summation: If you're sick of the way punk rock has been crawling into the retirement home, buy this album. These cats will blow any and all notions that fast, spirited punk is dead and cast it straight into the Pacific.

Beautiful, jumpy jumpy happy punk at its best.......2001-08-30
This CD is amazing, from the first time I listened to it I cannot get the songs out of my head. Sunnyside is a piece of pure punk heaven. I would recommend everyone buys this CD.
Top notch pop punk.......2001-08-12
I'll admit to a bit of a bias, as I played bass on this record, but the songs are of the highest caliber and the production is excellent (Thanks, Mass!!). I may never see my 20% of the profits, but if you like good old fashioned poppy punk rock, this is the record for you. Dave Parasite resides comfortably among the pantheon of songwriters who deserve the highest honors within this genre. His work is catchy yet insightful, embodying all of the desires and unfulfilled wishes of the lovelorn. He can make you laugh and cry without forcing you to spend months in a van with him. Please purchase this record before you wind up in the band and incapable of objective criticism. SC
This is the best album ever!!!.......1999-02-05
Oh ma, I dont know where to start-It is definetley the best CD ive ever heard-melodic lyrics and great guitar. Mix of the BEach Boys lyrics and Pop punk, every song sticks in ur head after you listen to it. A GREAT BUY! Its worth every penny! BUY IT!

Eh........2002-05-27
The Parasites are pop punk, and are not afraid to hide it. They've been around for some time now, and they have paid their dues, in some people's eyes. So does this warrant a retrospective/B-sides CD, while the band is still alive and kicking? I think not. Material like this really slows the band down, in my opinion. The Parasites have put out some pretty good punk rock [I can't tell you how often I play my Boris the Sprinkler/Parasites 7"] and with this CD chock full of throwaway tracks, it seems to cheapen them. Yes, there are some catchy songs on here that probably deserved a spot on a full-length, but for every one of those, there are two that bore you. They even put on a Queers cover song ["Daydreaming"], which I didn't understand. They played it almost note for note, which seems like something a garage band just starting out would do, not an established act like the Parasites. The most interesting part of the whole thing were the liner notes, which gave a [very] comprehensive history on said band. I guess if you enjoy the Parasites, pick this up, it will act as an addendum to their music. Otherwise, pass on it and buy one of their full-lengths which you will enjoy much more.

You above suck. All these bands with some exceptions R really. You should by this. You get alotta good music really cheap.
It's Like a bounced check........1999-01-02
Lookout records double cd is a compilation of various (artists?????)Lookout records collected a bunch of garage bands for this cd,that never should have found their way out of the garage. It must have been the neighbors that called lookout records to get these bands out of their neigborhoods.Who forgot to hide the garage door opener?Ifyou get a couple of garbage can lids andscream alot you might be able to get signed by lookout records too.Out of all the bands on this cd there were a few that show promise, the grovie ghoulies, squirtgun and the queers. So as warning to those who might buy this cd lookout lead doesn't bounce.

one of the best albums ever.......2003-04-06
Pop punks' love songs at it's best... simple riffs with amazing lyrics.. fast paced. Every song on the album awesome. No other way to put it.
1/6 of a great rock n' roll album.......2003-01-29
The Parasites are one of those strange bands that made the same song over and over again in different ways, or rather the same sound throughout, as Neil Young said to the man in the crowd who said all his songs sound the same: "It's all the same song," --; these guys put out maybe six or seven incredible "pop-punk" songs during the mid 90s, the rest of the output was unfortunately "throwaway dreck", "filler" they call it, in-between and around the golden diamonds in the proverbial "rough" going, Not that this group was ever insincere or undevoted.... One definitely got the impression throughout that they were all doing their best. This was the Parasites album that I owned back then, and the first two songs, "Crazy", and "Nothing At All" was as if you were waking up to what you were flabbergasted to recognize was the beginning of a great pop record, which it was, but without, sadly, a great, or even really very good, middle and end.... It's hard to tell from this pt. of hindsight what could have been done with this band, -- if they were now today (2003) making the same songs, but were all 17 year olds who could dance, and wore silver suits, etc. & haircuts, they would have been the Backstreet Boys, yes, in an alternate universe where the Ramones really did overturn the terrible excesses of 70s rock n roll to re-evolve toward something pure and always fresh, always rock AND roll.... But the "context" in which these guys were making their music, the audience they were playing to, small groups of bored teen youth with terrible haircuts with no appreciation for the show, standing in front of these sometimes great bands performing them sniffling and never dancing . . . O, the Parasites were humble, a mere "Ramones-ish" band, so they were called, and they were content, as well, perhaps, naive, lacking in scope of ambition (ruling the airwaves), -- who knows however despite everything but that somewhere in the universe it is the Parasites, and not all the other undeserving punk not-rocking bands that became the Greatest Rock n Roll Band In the World.... (Look at what happened to Jawbreaker. The world simply couldn't handle their taking of the mount!)
