The fourth disc by England's foremost drums-and-trumpet duo begins and ends with the sounds of moving trains. What happens in between is a winding journey that might send the musical border patrol 'round the bend but will delight everyone else. The combo's instruments are acoustic, but through a blend of low-tech wizardry and good old-fashioned musical chemistry they generate electrifying sound waves with a commanding electronic pulse. The harmonizer, wah-wah pedal, and echo unit through which Andy Diagram blows his trumpet and wordlessly sings enable him to create lush sound washes, throbbing bass lines, otherworldly choirs, and densely layered fanfares. Richard Harrison's drums interact with Diagram's trumpet loops to establish a foundation of tight, danceable polyrhythms. The duo manage to sustain interest throughout the album's 73-minute length by coaxing an ever-changing variety of funky grooves, breathy textures, and catchy melodies out of their restricted instrumental lineup. --Bill Meyer

Great Mann CD.......2006-06-30
ANGEL STATION is a great CD by Manfred Mann's Earth Band. Some critics claim that when Mann formed his Earth Band, he went in over his head, but that is mistaken, because, unlike his work with the Manfreds, his 70s/80s albums are actually the work of a mature artist fully realizing his talents. Mann's (and singer Chris Thompson's) belief that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia since 2005 on drug-smuggling charges was unjustly convicted makes ANGEL STATION an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.
One good effort.......2004-03-03
This remaster looks to not have the naked bat-woman's breasts covered up as in original American releases. The new Manfred Mann lineup doesn't skip a beat with this effort. As usual Mann uses a collection of top-notch songs re-worked as only the master-arranger can delivering a dark, mysterius effort.
Angel Station.......2001-11-27
I think this album is at least the equal of "Roaring Silence." The songs are memorable and infectious - they stay in your head for hours. While this is an Earth Band trait, it's also the hallmark of a "good" song. I'm not a fanatic about my music - I just know what I like, and this album is certainly on that list.

This is a classic! For all you intelligent rock fans, this album is a must-have! I first listened to it from a friend's vinyl copy 19 years ago and it has never failed to amaze me all these years! If there's an album that comes close if not equal the great works of The Alan Parsons Projects' "Tales of Mystery & Imagination" or Pink Floyd's "The Dark Side of the Moon," this enigmatic and hypnotic album is it! If the melodies and tunes take you to the heavens and the far reaches of space, stay calm. Angel Station will bring you back to earth. Thank you, Manfred Mann's Earth Band!

I first heard this album 19 years ago from a friend who lent me his vinyl copy. If there's a group that comes close to the progressive rock works of the Alan Parsons Project's "Tales of Mystery & Imagination" or Pink Floyd's "The Dark Side of the Moon," then Manfred Mann's "Angel Station" is it! No less, a classic and masterpiece in its own right! A definite must-have for any self-respecting and intelligent rock fan. If the melodies and tunes take you to the heavens and the far reaches of space, stay cool. "Angel Station" is there to bring you back to earth.

NOT THE BEST AUDIO VERSION AVAILABLE.......2006-06-14
The MMEB catalog has been remastered for this 2005 LP-mini-sleeve series, but, unfortunately, the results are not up to par with the 1999 Cohesion remasters.
When A/B'ing both versions, the Cohesion discs have more definition and clarity, most notably in the persussion.
So, the only reason for paying this high price is for the mini-sleeve itself. As most of the original MMEB LP releases were pretty simple cover designs, there isn't much justification for spending 3-4X over the Cohesion jewel-cased versions.

It is non-stop. It moves like a MMW record with a bit of the Propellerheads.

i was somewhat disappointed in the album, if only because i had been led to expect something slightly different. i thought i was buying a simple stripped down drum and horn jam session, something to play as backround noise or sit around and chill to. instead, the album sounds very techno-y, with drum loops and all sorts of waves of noise coming and going throughout. a lot more complicated than the minimalistic endeaver i expected. people into electro- jam sort of music might be interested, but there is probably something better they can find anyways.
