5 out of 5 stars The Artistry of Nelson Eddy.......2006-11-04

Nelson Eddy's flawless singing and diction, with a modern orchestral accompaniment, make The Artistry of Nelson Eddy a romantic, sophisticated musical experience.

3 out of 5 stars Artistry of Nelson Eddy.......2006-08-22

Contemporary music which is sung well but voice not as expected of Nelson Eddy. The true baritone of his voice missing. This may be the recording but CD received in good condition.

5 out of 5 stars A Nelson Eddy Tour de Force: Magnificence here on earth.......2006-03-17

I have most of the movies of Nelson Eddy. Together with Jeanette MacDonald, this team produced some of the most romantic movie-operattas ever made. But the sound quality of those movies pale in comparison to the magnificence of this production.
Nelson Eddy has never sounded better, aided (1994) by more modern recording techniques, the quality here (even with a disclaimer) is beyond belief. He has got to be one of the premier baritones of all time. Singing Popular tunes adapted from classical themes, he may be without peer. I have a CD of the young Sinatra singing "Full Moon and Empty Arms" to Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. He is not in the same universe with Eddy, whose crisp diction, timbre, fullness, perfect pitch, and passion ~ YES! PASSION! ~ must be heard (hopefully on on quality audio) to be fully appreciated. This is AWESOME. Maybe the best it gets here on earth. This is a wholly magnificent CD if you appreciate really good music, a fantastic baritone, and have a romantic bone in your body. I am astounded. Until today, I had no idea that Nelson Eddy was this good. This CD proves he was.

4 out of 5 stars For those who are already fans of N.E. only........2003-12-22

Nelson Eddy made these recordings when he was about 60 years old and it shows. He retained an excellent voice for a very long time, allowing him to perform successfully until the day he died. However, this particular recording seems to emphasize vocal decline, in terms of control and range. The problem may be that the songs presented here are mostly VERY GREAT classical orchestral pieces, to which are sung pop lyrics. In my opinion, most (but not all) of the lyrics to these songs are not worthy of their music and are incongruous. The last number, "Alone Together", an excellent Schwartz/Dietz song (which seems out of place with Rachmaninov and Ravel,) is actually a duet with Nelson's partner, Gale Sherwood. It was recorded a couple of years later than the other songs on this album, and is given a bossa nova background that in this mix, practically drowns out the singers! As to the overall sound quality, there are some light snaps and pops as on a record, but the music is loud and clear. I do not mean to discourage Nelson Eddy fans from buying this album. I think you need this album. I own this album. Buy this album, and encourage the release of more albums and radio recordings by Nelson Eddy. What I do mean to say, is that "The Artistry of Nelson Eddy" is not the best introduction to the artistry of Nelson Eddy. His recordings from the 30's, 40's or even 50's are a better purchase for the beginner. Once you love Nelson Eddy, then pick up this album.

5 out of 5 stars A Surefire Way To Turn A Bad Day Into A Good One!.......2003-04-12

The music on this CD is so beautiful it brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it. It proves that the music of Nelson Eddy is simply timeless. I have always loved his voice, but these arrangements bring out the very best of it. It is highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Michael is still great!.......2007-04-07

I can't understand people who would go to the effort of writing a review for someone just to insult them. No one can sing like Michael Bolton. He can still rip your heart out with his music. I love this CD.

4 out of 5 stars That's better..........2006-09-30

After the sheer disappoinment that was "Vintage," this was the album that, in many ways, gained back my respect. The first 7 songs are very good, plus the live performances are awesome (as they usually are). 4 stars, mainly because of the live "Go The Distance."

1 out of 5 stars Nessun Dorma? Please...........2006-05-18

Another CD proving Michael Bolton can't sing. He does sound like he's in pain and he only furthers our pain.

5 out of 5 stars The Best.......2006-02-15

I'm not an avid Michael Bolton fan, but this is a great CD. Especially touching is his song "The Courage In Your Eyes". (Which he also wrote). His style is certainly different, his voice raw, but he does have talent. John T, may have been "around" the music business for years, but you don't have an ear for real talent. Justin, I would have appreciated an intelligent critical review, not just nonsense. I would recomend this CD to anyone wanting to hear blusy music with real soul.

4 out of 5 stars You Go Michael!!!.......2006-01-06

Only ignorant dumb a$$es say things like "michael has no talent".
He has such a beautiful voice you can't help but to listen and be impressed, You can hear the pain in his voice and that he knows and believe what he's singing.

Having pulled often-stellar duty in both genres for many a year, film-scoring vet Alan Silvestri should know if the show-biz adage that drama is easy, it's comedy that's hard is true. For the Brad Pitt/Julia Roberts comic-romantic adventure The Mexican (the title refers to an antique pistol that must be smuggled back across the border), Silvestri taps a little of his recent history--and some sage genre insight--to conjure up a breezy, playful score that evokes everything from Leone's Dollars trilogy and traditional Mexican folk music to pastoral jazz flourishes and club kitsch. But a decidedly Morricone-meets-Bacharach sensibility prevails throughout, with the composer often lovingly tweaking the familiar banjo, harmonica, and choral clichés of the spaghetti Western into music that is refreshing even as it is strangely familiar. A handful of pop songs adds another layer of loopiness to the proceedings--especially the remix of Men Without Hats' chestnut from the early 1980s, "The Safety Dance," and the sprightly "El Cable" by Mexican exotica master Esquivel. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Ennio Morricone or Alain Silvestri.......2004-06-11

Alain Silvestri did a great job. He choose the songs' melodies sounds like the Spagetti Western Movies' great composer Ennio Morricone's unforgettable Spagetti Western movie themes. The Main Title and The Mexican songs are the great example ones. Also "Where is my staff" too. "Thieves" is another one of the greatest. And list goes on.. I love Ennio's songs that's why i love this soundtrack. If you love Ennio's stuffs too this soundtrack give you all you need.
Many of the soundtracks don't have every songs. So you have to find the other songs anywhere. For God's shake The Mexican is not an example oof this. This is not just a Soundtrack. IT'S a SCORE and a SOUNDTRACK. You can find the MOVIE SONGS and THE OTHER lyrical songs in this soundtrack. This is it's other plus too.

3 out of 5 stars A complement to the movie which does not stand alone so well.......2002-05-27

I thought the sound track to the movie was a great complement to it but after I bought it I felt that it did not stand up by itself very well. Its themes seemed too short and disjointed. But, I plan to play it on my CD player in random mode along with other CD's. Then I think it can complement the music it is interspersed with - depending on the music.

4 out of 5 stars soundtrack , the mexcian.......2001-04-22

the starting theme song, is the my all time favourite, watch the movie, and u'll know y.

4 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack for a good movie.......2001-03-06

The Soundtrack for "The Mexican" is not necessarily one of the greatest soundtracks ever made, but it does capture the essence of the movie. The distinguishable guitar plucks and the internitten catchy songs are great. Overall...if you liked the movie, you should like the soundtrack.

5 out of 5 stars Hot Fun.......2001-03-06

Hot Fun is the best way to describe the soundtrack to The Mexican. It's fast paced, boisterous, and makes for great listening on any type of trip. Be prepared for drives to the grocery store to become a lot more exciting! The mix of vocal and instrumental selections add to the versatility of the disk and give it a unique flavor. Even if you haven't seen the movie, this CD would be a great addition to any CD collection!

"These boys are all high and out of control on a trashcan punch mixture of adrenaline and testosterone. After all, not every band includes copies of restraining orders and ex-girlfriend fuck-you letters in their liner notes." - AUSTIN CHRONICLE

    "freewheeling abandon" - LA WEEKLY

Celebrated rock outlaws ZEKE set the cruise control to "white hot" on their Relapse debut, 'Til the Livin' End. A relentless ride of rock & roll abandon, ZEKE's 'Til the Livin' End mixes punk nihilism with a hard hitting metal extravagance. 'Til the Livin' End burns from start to finish, as super charged guitars, electrifying leads and a raucous punk attitude race full throttle down a highway to Hell. Thank the gods of rock & roll, you've just met your new favorite band.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars not my favorite but still Zeke.......2006-11-15

I like this CD and everything Zeke has ever done but I have to admit it is my least favorite. It is maybe slightly too polished and more heavy metal/less punk than previous releases. I would recomend buying it but after reading all the other reviews giving it raves I was just wondering if anyone else still longed for the old "Runnin Shine" sound of their earlier albums?

5 out of 5 stars ALBUM OF THE YEAR - EVERY YEAR!!!!!!!!.......2005-12-29

When Death Alley was released, I was so pumped, I listened to it practically every day. Not too long afterwards, I heard that the almighty Zeke broke up, and I was crushed. Where was I going to get more of my mandatory daily recommended allowance of ROCK? It was a dark time for rock and roll, since the two greatest rock and roll bands of their time (Zeke and The Hookers) were no more. Many faithful followers were lost. Many others kept the faith. Then came the great news.....ZEKE WAS BACK!
'TIL THE LIVING END easily surpassed their previous efforts, proving once again that rock and roll will never die! I didn't think it was possible to top Death Alley - such blasphemy! This album brings the rock to the people and shoves it down their throats. Combining the perfect blend of Motorhead and The Supersuckers (at their best), 'Til The Living End never lets you down. It's the gift that keeps on giving. If you can find the 2 disc special edition version of this album, your eyes and ears will thank you. The 2nd disc is a bonus DVD full of live footage from 3 cities as well as footage from on the road. If you don't buy this album you will be cursed to an eternity of being forced to listen to nothing but Yoko Ono and David Hasselhoff albums.

    4 out of 5 stars That 70's Zeke Show.......2005-06-15

The interesting thing about Zeke is they always manage to sneak in some big change to their sound almost every album yet keep true to their core. The big change on this album is the clear movement into Motorhead territory with some sprinkles of stoner rock thrown in there. There's a new low end fuzz to the guitars that you've never heard on other Zeke albums. This gives this album an admirably beefy sound, particularly on the mid-paced cuts, but sacrifices that sense of controlled fury in previous efforts.

The three most blatant examples of this new sound are "Little Queen", "Dragonfly" and "Dolphenwulf". "Little Queen" is vintage Motorhead to the T. Marky even howls like Lemmy, heightening the effect as much as the Wurzel like solo. "Dragonfly" and "Dolphenwulf" sound like they could have been directly lifted from a Monster Magnet/Orange Goblin album. This is a bit different as in the past it's been hard to say Zeke sounded like anyone (with maybe the obvious exception of Speedealer on Dirty Sanchez) but there's some clear comparisons here. I have to say I don't mind it though, maybe because I'm a huge fan of the bands most directly influencing this record.

I've also thought Zeke is at their strongest when they slow it down a little which is the prevailing approach on this record. Yes I appreciate the blindingly fast cuts of albums past but the real fist pumping sing alongs that rule their live show have always been songs like "Daytona". My one gripe with this record, and the reason it's not my fav Zeke album, is they've also always held a special place in my heart for that go-for-broke, balls to the wall, "Kicked In The Teeth" sound. On this record there's a few faster paced cuts that smolder but nothing that really burns like the glories of past records. So while I think this is a great album and one that ranks high in the Zeke discography, I'd still have to give the nod to Death Alley as the best combination of the two sides of the Zeke coin.

Check out more reviews at ohboydestroy.

5 out of 5 stars true punk rock played with actual talent.......2005-03-21

Zeke is one of those bands that I've always read about and seen their CD's and heard about them from other people, but I've never actually heard their music. unfortunately, I kinda formed a premature opinion of them before actually hearing them. they always seemed like a Nirvana or Green Day ripoff band to me. but recently I was lucky enough to see them live opening for Corrosion Of Conformity & Motorhead and I have to be honest, they really blew me away. they were nothing like I thought they would be. I immediately went out and bought 'Til The Living End, and I love it. these guys not only play punk rock really well, but they are way better than 90% of all the other so-called punk bands in this day and age. they have alot of talent. the guitarist can f*cking shred, man. its not just super-fast, sloppy, 4 chord songs that last 2 minutes. its so much more than that. these guys inject some bluesy heavy rock into their punk sound to spice it up, and it works. god damn, these guys realy cook.

5 out of 5 stars 'Til the Livin' End is Gold!.......2004-04-07

First of all, there's no such thing as a bad Zeke album. They all KICK ASS!
Well, I was down at the record store the other day and I noticed some fool had decided to give up his copy of Dirty Sanchez... it was sitting there in the used section. Why anyone would part with their copy of that album is beyond me. But imagine my surprise when I saw lying there behind it, an advance review copy of 'Til the Livin' End. Now I had already placed my order for the one with the DVD but I couldn't wait so I bought another copy on the spot. NO REGRETS.
Zeke just gets better and better. More or less picking up where Death Alley left off, Til the Livin End rips right out of the starting gate with 700 horse power... as usual.
Donny, Marky and Jeff have only gotten better with time (if that's even possible), playing faster, harder, tighter than ever. It's nice to hear Diamond Jeff shining through on a few more tracks on this one. The songs are super charged and extremely well composed but without the slightest hint of softening up or slowing down.
Til the Livin End is just another jewel in the rock crown worn by Zeke. Five stars is not enough.
Now, if you're new to Zeke, you might want to start with Kicked In The Teeth or Death Alley. But as far as I'm concerned, every Zeke album is a five star album.
Can't wait to get my DVD edition. Can't wait to see Zeke on the East Coast again.

5 out of 5 stars Watch out for Young Buck's solo on G Unit Records in 2004!.......2004-02-05

Watch out for Young Buck's solo on G Unit Records in 2004! Thats because if it is anything like he is in the G Unit's Beg For Mercy, this cd and many other underground records, he'll be hot. Buck is now one of my favourite rappers, and thats pretty good, concidering he hasn't got a real commercial album out yet!

        Product Description

This is Hugo Duarte's debut CD. Larry Michael Lee, of Ozark Mountain Daredevils and producer of several Alabama CDs, is the producer. The songs are all written or co-written by Hugo (except for Havana Flamingo). Songs on this CD range from country to rock and roll. There are a lot of songs that concern love in its many stages. Hugo Duarte tells you a story with each and every song, and often you'll find yourself laughing, crying and dancing as you listen to his music.
