Worlds of Love [Explicit Lyrics]

Editorial Reviews
From the Artist
I wanted to write songs with the common thread being a variety of romantic relationships and I am happy with the present collection of twelve titles. You can also visit my art gallery and extensive links page.

Album Description
"WORLDS OF LOVE" consists of twelve dance flavored stories about different romantic relationships. Nine songs and three instrumentals. Some titles are somewhat humorous and semi-satirical, and include such topics as insects (Pheromones), dream lovers (Dromer), gay affairs (Bettina), modern women (Party Girls), broken hearts (Follow the Sun), hookers (Ginger), dominance (Reizwasche Domina), and personal phone ads (Personals).

Although most lyrics are in English there are some in Japanese, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and a bit of Dutch. Except for the harmony/background vocals in "Bettina" all female voices are sound effects!!

Music styles include various tastes of techno, merengue, slow reggae, salsa, and jazzy funk.

5 out of 5 stars Varèse Sarabande à son meilleur!.......2003-04-17

5 out of 5 stars A copy in every household . . ........2003-02-09

This disc is so chock-full of classic scores from classic films that every movie-and-music lover should own a copy. Thanks to Robert Townson for producing this collection and the entire Varese film score catalog. My favorite tracks from this disc are "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf"; "Star Trek: The Motion Picture"; and "Midway".

5 out of 5 stars A sampler feat. some of the greatest film scores in history........2001-09-06

Words cannot convey what a collection like this means to a film music collector such as myself. Varese Saraband has been releasing quality film scores and music for the last 20 plus years. My vinyl and CD collections burst with so much great stuff from Varese. One day I was looking in the bins of my local record store and noticed this little gem of a collection. I looked at it and saw a virtual cornucopia of the great film score cues for only $ (and 2 discs). So I purchased it and opened it up. Much to my surprise, the booklet is chock full of information about each scoring session and pictures to boot. I also learned more about some of these wonderful pieces as well. Well thanks to Mr. Townson and this nice collection, I plan to purchase some of the recordings these cues were released on since I don't own classics like Viva Zapata, Alex North's 2001, Superman (not the Varese version, I do have the other release), and Patton. Guess I will have to save a few pennies, but it will be worth it. I recommend this collection to anybody who wants to discover and learn about the history of film music. I also think it's a great listen from the first song to the last on both discs. My compliments to Varese on a great collection of classics (and keeping it under $).

5 out of 5 stars "the man behind Varese Sarabande ~ Robert Townson".......2001-04-06

The music that this label releases is without a doubt in a class by themselves, always perfection. Here we have the 500th CD release from ~ "The Man Behind The Music" ~ Mr. Robert Townson. So much care is taken with each album, that you feel you are witnessing the birth of a newborn baby, and that may be just what it is.

For those of us who buy each album ~ people who work to create them ~ the artwork ~ musicians ~ and a list of some of the most talented composers and conductors ~ John Barry, Elmer Bernstein, John Debney, Georges Delerue, Cliff Eidelman, Jerry Goldsmith, Bernard Herrmann, Michael Lang, Henry Mancini, Joel McNeely, Alfred Newman, Alex North, Miklos Rozsa, Dimitri Shostakovich, Frederic Talgorn, Franz Waxman, Rick Wentworth and John Williams ~ and as always the sound quality and performances by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra and National Philharmonic Orchestra is dynamically flawless and simply superb.

This economically priced 2-CD-Set ~ pure film score sampling ~ is worth it's weight in gold. One should not have a favorite from this vast collection, but if asked ~ it would be "TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD" (1962) composer Elmer Bernstein took it to the limit and beyond, the story-line, cast and score was the perfect marriage.

A big, big thank you to ~ Matthew Joseph Peak (cover/session photography) ~ Jonathan Allen, Geoff Foster, Bernie Kirsh, Mike Ross, Mike Sheady and Al Swanson (recording engineers) ~ Rich Breen (mastering engineer) ~ and for the extensive 28 page liner-note booklet featuring "behind the scenes" memories of these past 500 albums, may we look forward to future classics on the next 500 CD's from producer...ROBERT TOWNSON!

4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable.......2005-08-23

If you like TV/movie soundtracks, and Andromeda, you should like this. Good Andromeda music, also contains the two different opening themes. (Remember, it is a TV soundtrack so it contains synthesized music.) I enjoy listening to it, and can have it playing in the background at work too without it being bothersome.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Soundtrack.......2005-02-01

The soundtrack to Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda is one of the best sci-fi soundtracks to come out in quite a while. I found the music exciting, interesting and intriguing, and on several tracks simply exhilarating; composer Matthew McCauley really does take you on a musical roller-coaster, from the stately High Guard Theme to Dylan's theme to Trance's and Beka's themes to the Nietzschean Attack theme. McCauley musically explores each character, underscoring and enhancing their unique personality. The album has kind of a New Age-ish sound to it on several tracks which gives it a mysterious ethereal quality. A great score for a great series. Composer Matthew McCauley certainly knows his stuff. This is just great music whether or not you're a fan of the show!

5 out of 5 stars love it.......2003-08-08

Great presentation of soundtrack. Interesting instrumentals for even those who are not familiar with the show. I listen to it practically all the time!

5 out of 5 stars A great television score!.......2002-03-27

First off, this is a television soundtrack, not a movie soundtrack-- many of the "instruments" are synthesized. Okay, that aside, this is a great album! It's been a long time since I've heard so many different character themes on a tv soundtrack. From the Heroic "Dylan Hunt", to the brooding "Rev Bem and Magog" music, to the outright ominious "Neitzscheans" themes, this album is a winner. It's nice that the producers also included Alex Lifeson's "March of the High Guard" theme from season 1, which is regrettably no longer used on the show. The music on this album takes you on a emotional roller coaster-- from mysterious, to brooding, to heroic and back again. High recommended for fans of both scores and the television series alike!

The modern-day traditional Jewish music revival is filled with artists exploring klezmer's Eastern-European roots, but you'll hear no clarinet and little violin on cantor/educator Richard Kaplan's Life Of The Worlds. Although these are traditional songs, there is a broad range of the Diaspora represented on his second album, including Afghani, Spanish, Moroccan, and Algerian traditions. Kaplan dives into the sacred and the secular, the prophetic and the exultant, finding commonalities amongst different tribes and fusing them together. Musical accompaniment comes in the form of an occasional flute, piano, and violin as well as Moroccan clay drums, oud, dumbek, and other pre-modern-era instruments, but the instrument at the center of each song is Kaplan's voice--his high baritone majestically soars, quavers with sensitivity, and rings out with joy. To hear him sing solo versions of traditional Niggiun is to hear a world-class master savor the multifaceted nuance of each note and transcend the concept of song, turning it into religion and high art. --Tad Hendrickson

    Album Description

A remarkable collection of vocal performances of Jewish sacred music from the Middle East, Andalusia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia - songs of exultation, longing, love, and Divine immanence - accompanied by an ensemble of masterful musicians.

Instruments include: oud, ney, kanun, Egyptian accordian, violin, mandolin, dumbek, doira, riqq, Yemenite can, tar, saz, clarinet, mey (Turkish duduk), tilinca (Rumanian shepherd's flute), piano, string bass, balaban (Klezmer drum set), cimbalom, and a chorus of voices.

Among many special songs, the CD features an 'eco-lament' (ecological lament) based on lament melodies for the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem. It is called "Lament on the Destruction of the Garden of Eden" (Kinah Lekhurban Gan Eden), and updates the use of these tunes to mourn the wounding of our larger temple, Gaia - Mother Earth.

LIFE OF THE WORLDS contains 18 songs, 77 minutes of music, and contains a 32-page booklet which includes informative song descriptions; all texts are provided in transliteration, English translation, and in Hebrew or Yiddish.

This CD was three years in the making, and presents the first recordings in North America of several songs from the treasure-chest of Jewish sacred music.

This CD consists of two Sun Ra LPs from 1973. The first was briefly available as an Impulse record, while the latter has never been released in any form. Both consist of guided improvisations in which Sun Ra cued the group's entries and combinations, creating multilevel performances with remarkable shifts in density and unusual play with sound. The title track of Pathways opens with a set of acoustic contrasts provided by bass clarinet, oboe, and muted trumpet that Sun Ra expands and shifts with mini-Moog and an electric keyboard vibraphone. Elsewhere, almost ambient keyboard parts collide with blistering saxophone solos so overblown and distorted that they might be played through guitar pedals. On Friendly Love, the preoccupation with unusual tonal mixtures extends even further, encompassing bizarre sound sources that emphasize the lowest frequencies. The "space dimension mellophone" played by Akh Tal Ebah on "Friendly Love II" has a bassoon reed inserted in the mouthpiece; the "Neptunian libiflecto" is a bassoon fitted with the mouthpiece of a brass instrument. And Eloe Omoe's contra-alto clarinet is pitched lower than a bass. It's Sun Ra in some of the deepest recesses of space, creating oddly somber and meditative music that's suddenly traversed by moments of strange light or almost conventional lyricism. --Stuart Broomer

5 out of 5 stars Don't judge by the cover!.......2001-02-08

Evidence, after a very lengthy gap in their Sun Ra reissue program has returned to the scene with an amazingly essential batch of releases--enough to make any Ra fan salavate at the thought. Pathways To Unknown Worlds/Friendly Love pairs an album that appeared briefly on Impulse and another that has never been issued before, while two other albums planned for impulse are documented on the sister CD issue, 'The Great Lost Sun Ra albums'(Cymbals and Crystal Spears.) What makes these reissues amazing is that very little of Ra's 70's work (save a few live performances and the soundtrack to Space is the Place) have been available.

Fortunately, Evidence has treated us to more than a stale documentary. These are some fantastic out recordings by Ra and his arkestra that are really no less monumental than his classic 60 exploratory works like Atlantis and Magic City, but posess what to my ears sound like a greater foundation in free jazz, where the former could be compared to nothing in jazz or any other format. For some that might mean a slightly more approachable presentation, but it certainly isn't any less demanding. On this and the 'great lost' album, the arkestra experiment with new ways to make noise--whether it be combining horn mouth-pieces with the body of a reed instrument, or Sun Ra body-surfing on his keyboard.

In short, while these are indeed some new and deeply rewarding recordings, don't expect Sun Ra to stop being Sun Ra. Its more of the same, but who's complaining?

4 out of 5 stars A Beat for Work, A Beat for Play!.......2001-10-12

"The Canadian Brass Plays Bernstein" provides enjoyable listening for a wide range of listeners. Instrumental until the last piece, this CD makes pleasant background music for one working or reading. The lively beat and familiar tunes hold the interest of the listener who is ready for a more intense involvement in the music. All in all, this was a worthwhile purchase.

4 out of 5 stars A great addition to your Canadian Brass collection.......2000-07-18

This is one of my favorite Canadian Brass CDs. If you enjoy Bernstein's Candide and West Side Story, you'll find a fresh take on many of the most memorable tracks. My personal favorite on this CD is 'Make Our Garden Grow.' The soaring trumpeters always give me chills, and the climax is massive! Also, the final track on this CD gives you a chance to hear the VOICES of the Canadian Brass performers in a comical version of 'Gee, Officer Krumpke.' Overall, this CD has wide range of styles and definitely shows that the Canadian Brass is not just a group of stuffy musicians!

4 out of 5 stars The Fantasy Album.......2007-05-09

You can't have too many Sci-Fi albums. This is a good addition to anyone's collection. A good crosssection of SF music. It even has music from The Thief of Bagdad from the 30s(?)

5 out of 5 stars nice release from Silva.......2005-08-15

As with most of the recent Silva America releases, Silva Screen has compiled older recordings from previous CDs and added some new material exclusively for this release. In this case, Silva has recorded music from The first Harry Potter and Lord of The Rings films, both Mummy films and Gladiator. I'm not sure what else is new, but combine these excellent tracks with golden age material from Hermann and Rozsa, and some Elfman (Batman, Edward Scissorhands) and Williams (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Witches of Eastwick) for good measure, you have a heckuva compilation.

The performance is first rate with only the Raiders March being a subpar track.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Fantasy Scores from Hit Fantasy Movies.......2003-04-05

If you're looking for some fantasy role-playing game backround music to play or just like mostly classical fantasy-esque music, this double CD contains excellent scores wrapped in whopping total of 140+ minutes worth of music.

Classic music from your favorite hit fantasy and action movies are found all over this huge, quality collection. You'll hear suites and sounds from outstanding films like Lord of the Rings, Gladiator, Willow, The Mummy, Harry Potter, Excalibur, Conan, Highlander, Batman, Edward Scissorhands and more.

A recent (2002) and impressive collection of musical scores, and by far the best CDs I've personally bought for fantasy themed music.

5 out of 5 stars "successful formula from Silva spells Classic all the way".......2002-09-24

History repeats itself with this latest compilation from Silva Screen "Fantasy Album:Adventure & Fantasy at the Movies", a heap of music to digest within the twenty-eight tracks. All beautifully arranged and conducted by Paul Bateman and Nic Raine with the City Of Prague Orchestra in full force...with the helping hand of David Temple (choir master) of the Crouch End Festival Chorus. A perfect blend from brew master James Fitzpatrick(producer) who has impeccable foresight and taste in film music.

What I most enjoy about Silva, is the fact they always have the lesser recorded selections within the big picture...take for instance "THE SEVENTH VOYAGE OF SINBAD"(1958), "THE THREE WORLDS OF GULLIVER" (1960), "MYSTERIOUS ISLAND" (1961) and "JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS" (1963), all four composed by Bernard Herrmann who is in a class by himself, they'll never be another.

But for my money the highlight picks are "GLADITOR"(2000), Hans Zimmer's recreation of the spectacle that was Romes, with man against man, man against beast and the armies that clashed and fell under the powerful story that unfolds within this suite from the film ~ "BEETLEJUICE", "EDWARD SCISSORHANDS" and "BATMAN", each from the films of Tim Burton still ring true within the realm of great direction and storytelling, this can only be topped by composer Danny Elfman who adds the frosting to an appetizing treat ~ "LEGEND" (1985), can faeries, goblins, woodland spirits mix well with the Lord of Darkness...only the legendary Jerry Goldsmith can conjure up a tune to drive the entire cast into a frenzy with "FARIE DANCE/REUNITED", this is the stuff nightmares are made of with a happy ending of course.

With composers like Tan Dun, Randy Edelman, Danny Elfman, Jerry Goldsmith, Bernard Herrmann, James Horner, Maurice Jarre, Michael Kamen, Brian May, Jerome Moross, Carl Orff, Basil Poledouris, Miklos Rozsa, Howard Shore, Alan Silvestri, John Williams and Hans Zimmer...one can only hope this will last forever. Silva, I don't know how you do it, but keep them coming...gotta love it!

    Album Description

Spirits of Love is a new CD release containing twelve original world music compositions by the great guitarist Nocy Karkour in which he seamlessly blends multiple styles and influences including Flamenco, Latin, Jazz,Blues, Regggae, Bossa Nova, and even Arabic music. It is a great pleasure to find again Nocy's dazzling speed and virtuosity which we had already savored in his previous successful release Flames of Spain. What is even more impressive in Spirits of Love, however, is the new level of musical maturity reached by Nocy and his band, with an uncompromising focus on simple melodic lines and rhythm. The virtuosity is there but only as a servant of the overall musical ideas and feelings. Nocy's spirituality, raw talent, and primitive energy explode in each note. The more you listen to this CD, the more it will sink into you, striking unexpected notes and tones in your soul.

    5 out of 5 stars Consummate Artist.......2004-02-18

Does "a music fan from Las Vegas" live on the same planet? Maybe he/she has a personal beef with Nocy (or maybe is in competition)and is getting revenge by posting the ONLY negative review for Nocy's CD's?? Nocy is a consummate artist...his guitar playing is unbelievable (just ask the Lakers' fans after he played the National anthem). This album and his Flames of Spain reflect the mastery....buy them, you'll see.

5 out of 5 stars A true artist is always on the rise.......2004-02-17

If I did not believe that Nocy's CDs Spirits Of Love and Flames of Spain are full of power love and energy, I will have not wasted any of my time to write this review, and say how much I appreciate both of his CDs. Nocy music is refreshing romantic and sensational. His guitar playing is superb and unique.
Music Fan, If you really did not like nocy's music why did you buy his CD? You had the choice to listen to his songs first on MP3. Common sense?
Music fan may be 10 years from now you will understand what Nocy's music is all about in the mean time dont waste your time to tell the world how negative you are. Keep in mind that music is the voice of God and it is never boring. We dont have to like all kind of music but we have to respect the artist for there creativities.
I will encourage every one to buy Nocy' music. I cannot wait for his new CD.

5 out of 5 stars This is real music..........2004-02-07

To the true music fan, Nocy's music is pure enjoyment! An unique fusion of cultures and energies. He brings up a different kind of sensitivity and strength to each song, at once blows your mind with his guitar and transports you with his melodies.
Buy his CDs. See him perform, he will amaze you! I can (and do) listen to his music every day and it's never boring! I can't wait to hear what he has in store for us!

    1 out of 5 stars Boring........2003-11-08

This is a very boring CD with no staying power. It is OK the first time you listen to it. But by the second or third time,
it gives you a slight feeling of nausea. I just do not listen to it anymore period. The melodies and lyrics are very shallow, syrupy, and pretentious playing catch up with current trends in flamenco and world music. So do not waste your money.
Buy real flamenco CDs or if you like this lighter genre, Gypsy Kings are still your best bet.

5 out of 5 stars Spirits of Love...........2002-03-22

The name perfectly captures the feel of this CD. The music is uplifting, exciting, pure and sensual. The songs encompass several different musical styles and influences. The more you listen to it, the more you love it! "Spirits of Love", "Mirage Sensuel", "Arabica" and "Take me the Way I Am" are my favorites but they are all wonderful. For hours of pure listening pleasure, get this CD now!

I was very disappointed when I received this CD. The recording was of very low quality -- it sounds as though someone is holding a pillow over the speaker. Don't waste your time with this one.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing, wonderful, beautiful!.......2000-03-14

A must have, I was blown out of the water by this fabulous recording by the choir of Grace Cathedral. The sound of the boys is stunning, and the treble soloists have outstanding voices. If you enjoy choral music, this cd is a must.
