The debut release from New York cult band The 2 Skinnee J's is a fun and intelligent mixture of hip-hop, rock, funk and pop culture. Altough evocative at times of other rap-rock fusion groups, the J's are an entity all their own, dishing super-heroes on "Ball-Point Man" and delivering a full-throated geek call-to-arms on "Riot Nrrd". Long-time fans will love the new and improved recordings of "The Best," "Champion" and their tribute to Brooklyn living, 718," as well as the appearance of concert standards like "Pluto" and "The Good, The Bad & The Skinnee". Lyrically, frontmen J Guevera and Special J drop more sly and often obscure references than an episode of The Simpsons. If your idea of a good time includes rhymes about Old Jedi mind tricks, Bhoutros Bhoutros Gahli, and Shazam! layered on top of loud drums and wah-wah guitars, these are the J's you're looking for. --Andrew Boscardin --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

By far the best Skinnee album........2003-08-18
This is by far the best Skinnee album. This is the one that made me fall in love with the J's.
I feel their newer albums got away from the original Skinnee that made the crowd jump and never want to leave a live show.
This album and the way it mixes the rock and rap will stay in my CD rotation forever.

This album is absolutely unbelievable. The lyrics are incredibly well-crafted, it is a thing of beauty for sure. The only song for the J's that even earned them remote popularity is Riot Nrrrd, which really could serve as the anthem for the CD and the band if The Good, The Bad, and The Skinnee wasn't there to put all other songs in their place. There is simply not a bad song on this CD. Buy it, listen to it, look up the lyrics in Webster's, then know why they are the best lyricists on the planet.

These guys rule. Heavy urban beats with, wait... ...what's this? Intelligent and uplifting rap lyrics. Damn that's crazy. Eclectic, yet all to familiar.
The Dawning of tha Age of J.......2001-03-31
This is the first album I purchased by the J's. It is also one of the phattest albums i have purchased to date. I loved this album so much that I went out and bought all their other LPs, and then, realizing they had no other LPs, i went and downloaded all the tougher-to-find stuff. Every single song is packed with explosive beats and hot lyrical stylings. Check out this CD, and keep an eye out for a new one soon: Volumizer. It's gonna be the bizzity-bomb.

I love this album. I find myself listening to this cd a lot more than my other discs. I would describe the 2 Skinnee J's as a fresh blend of hip hop, funk, and rock. I really don't like to categorize bands too much, especially these guys because they seem to transcend any stamping label i could give them.
Finding music like this definitely proves that digging beneath the shroud of mainstream fizz is worth it.
Highly recommended.
5 stars and then some.......2002-07-06
Its the best musical release in years. Creative lyrics, "I'm more novel than war and peace" or "I wield my light saber verses vader and invizion the invaders demolition, rebels on a misson" I have seen the J's 4 times and every time I have been blown away by their preformence and this record is a great example of their musical tallent. I know I'm rambling but thats because its so hard to sum up such a wonderful record. Basically the point is buy this record because its the greatest thing since sliced bread!!!
2 Skinnee J's, All hot songs.......2002-01-10
The 2 Skinnee J's have done it with this groundbreaking release. An intoxicating mix of rock, funk, and rap along with intelligent and creative lyrics, one can only hope for more from this unique band. The music is uplifting and high-energy. The band's performances are nothing but crowd pleasers. If you are looking for something a little different that the ordinary, check this out. At the very least you will have their 2 larger releases, "718" and "Riot Nrrd". Highly recommended.
