Album Description
Following up the personal success of their first album Lowtech, Matters & Dunaway have upgraded to produce their second release of the conceptual tech trilogy, Midtech. The five tracks amounting to twenty-five minutes of music on Midtech has once again satisfied the creators, however, underground acknowledgement is whats desired with this ep. Beginning with the up-tempo "Movement", raw organic drum and bass beats layered with a minimal string arrangement drives you into a frenzy. The second track, "Spidercheck", drops the ill Post-Rock groove to keep your head bobbing, but allows you to keep your cool. "Orange Code" lowers you into Ambient Rock bliss as your wrapped in warm pads and delayed guitar riffs under bouncing rythyms. Electronic beats serve as the foundation of the last two tracks. "Stars in the Lake" delivers structured, ambient, blissed out, trip-hop that could possibly gets us that car commercial deal we've been waiting for. And "Honduras" could be the most innovative Ambient track since ....

Matters & Dunaway are making music that soothes and envigorates simultaneously. Midtech is easily one of the best IDM/postrock albums I've ever heard. The opener "Movement" is danceable with a rythm like jets weaving through the sky. "Spidercheck" follows with a deep bass line and ferocious odd time live drumming. "Orange Code" pulls the carpet out from underneath you and suddenly you're floating mate! Soft ambient guitar embellishments provide beautiful melodic lines. "Stars in the Lake" displays the duo's exceptional drum programming and fluid synthesizer layering. You begin to wonder if you are on some tropical island enjoying a warm breeze with a martini. The album closer "Honduras" brings out intense emotions with its crashing metallic beat and gut wrenching melody played through MIDI warm pad with a slow release rate. Sublime!
