With a lineage spanning the commonwealth's worthier cannons (Arnold, The Smiths), these young dilettantes have drunk from the fountain of ages and have been imbued with visions from the likes of Low, John Ralston Saul, Janet Cardiff, John Coltrane and Benjamin Anastas.

PJ's Best since Yield.......2007-05-11
This is great to listen to. Love the collection of raritys and career spaning oddballs. If your a PJ fan you'll want this.
Great deal but a little warning.......2006-11-12
It's cool that PJ put all these hard-to-find songs on this album. Overall it's a must for the true PJ fan but I've got one majaor qualm - some of the songs are different recordings from the original B-sides from back in the day.
For example, on "Footsteps" a harmonica track was added - the original B-side didn't have that. It's cool to hear the harmonica and makes it sound different but I really enjoyed the more sparse rendition with just guitar and Eddie's voice.
"Alone" is also a different vesion than the original B-side. This one sounds a bit more raw (which can be good or bad) but it's just not the one I remember so dearly.
Once again, I love this album but just know that some of the songs sound different than the originals.
Lost And Found.......2006-09-22
The fact that these songs weren't considered good enough for any Pearl Jams studio albums says something about how good this band is. This album is a classic in its own right - even if they are just B-sides, any other band would be pleased to release a Greatest Hits album as good as this.
From 'Wash' and "Dirty Frank' from the Ten era to the more recent 'Down' and 'Undone' from Riot Act, all the Pearl Jam songs that you may or may not have missed over the years are here.
You remember them...Yellow Ledbetter, Footsteps, Alone, Last Kiss, Leavin Here, Hard To Imagine, they're all here....
Some of my favourite PJ tracks of all time are on here. Special mention must go to 'Hold On', 'Let Me Sleep', the instrumental 'Brother' and 'Strangest Tribe' which reminds me of 'The Doors - Indian Summer'.
Also listen out for the hidden track at the end of disc 2, which is Eddie's ode to the late Layne Staley of Alice In Chains.
Lost Pearls.......2006-08-08
The dogs are indeed pearls in this rarities and b-sides Pearl Jam album. In a short review, Lost Dogs is the best album that the seattle band realize in many years and have to get a place in the shelf - a special one. There are too many good songs that you will have difficulty in pick one for yourself.
In Lost Dogs the band pass its life through all the 90s, since the early years with Ten and Vs, passing through the void that inspire No Code and Binaural, and finally arriving in the 2000s with the maturity of Riot Act. Essential.
pearl jam golden nugget collection .......2006-06-19
pearl jam have always been known to make really great songs and never put them on offical albums and then they decide to put them on b.sides...which is an shame because some times their singles are hard to get hold of.. well now we've got this to droul over and it's a superb album and the five merits just go to disc 1 alone as i haven't listened to disc two yet and i'll will tonight..as i hear that the song "dirty frank" is an awesome song from the opipions of previous reviewers so if disc two is as good as disc one then i have no other opipion that to state that this is an superb rarities album with all the song writing merits you get from their offical albums maybe even more and some of the "ten" session songs should of featured because they would of fitted perfectly..
disc two review
as stated above i got round to listen to disc two last night at 111.pm and it really was a magical journey and i know it's an clinched saying but it truly was an beautiful grungy journey through the different evolutions of pearl jam
the disc started off well with the first three songs fatal other side and hard to imagine.. but it was just as "footsteps" started i was incarcerated by the music..this song was an stone gossard song that was left of the ten album..for what reason i don't know
then "wash" "as stated above from the cutting room floor of the ten album..
"dead man" "dead man walking soundtrack" this is an fantastic song.. with eddie vedder playing guitar on his own.
and the song didn't even make the dead man walking soundtrack
the next four songs are from the 1991 fan club christmas single and are all superb.
sweet lew left off the binaural album is an warped sophicated song..one of my favorites
"dirty frank" from the ten peroid it's increbily, in your face and it acts as it protrays
brother[ten era] another song that could of been a major smash hit!!!
now comes to the end and my favorite song of both albums
"bee girl" from the radio broadcast rockline
it's a beautiful intimicy, between jeff ament and eddie vedder
this is one of their all time classics!!!
get the album if you love PJ and what more of the diversity of post ten era

Customer Reviews:
Too busy.......2006-07-14
I was hoping for more music - there's just too much storytelling for my and my kids' taste. We love the Beethoven's Wig series and were hoping this would be similar.
good product and fast service.......2005-09-11
Product arrived in ample time overseas and was pleased with quality of product!
what a road trip.......2005-02-21
i bought this item after reading some of the reviews on amazon for my nephews who are 2 and 4 years of age. two months after christmas their mom was explaining how they request the cd everytime they are in the car. she groaned when i was in the car and they boys wanted to show me how much they liked the cd. during the trip i witnessed a mother humming along to the music with her children, the boys singing to excerpts, and an overall execptional learning experience about music, culture, and history. if you are looking for something that all children will like, passes the time on a road trip, and teaches important lessons about life without being pretentious then get this cd, it is a guaranteed crowd pleaser.
Mesmerized and moved mom to tears.......2005-01-26
This CD is awesome, the music great, the story captivating. But it's Mozart, you already know about the music. Other reviewers have already discussed the story and I agree with their assessments that it's very good. The reason for this review is to say that my very active, never stopping, constantly in motion 5 year old SAT DOWN AND LISTENED without fidgeting or fiddling for a full 20 minutes and then sat but fiddled for the remainder of the CD. Maybe this is not a big deal to moms of "normal" energy level children -- but this simple act of being still for 20 minutes moved me to tears. I said nothing before putting the CD in, I just put it in while he was doing his running around. Within seconds of hearing the story start he sat down on the floor, crossed his legs, and listened while looking at the speakers. I have never seen this behavior from my child before, ever. Please note that this is a child who is not ADD, he just cannot be still. He listens to hundreds of hours of stories we read to him -- while he's doing something else. He "watches" videos -- while he's doing something else. He reads, while clapping or tapping out the beat of the syllables. I cannot remember my child ever stopping what he was doing to JUST LISTEN. When it was over he said, "That was a cool story," and got up to run around. That was it, but that's high praise from this child. To see my child sitting still for a full 20 minutes, you cannot begin to imagine my awe. I am running right out to get the rest of the series! Bravo to the producers!
Daughter loves it.......2003-03-27
My daughter is 5 and loves to hear this CD over and over in the car.

Customer Reviews:
Never fails to entertain..........2007-07-04
My fourth album from Bolling, and I'm still constantly entertained and mesmerized by the music. Bolling's specialty lies in his ability to fuse "mainstream" (arguably so) melodies with little surprises here and there which never fails to please and entertain. I also highly recommend the Violin and Piano album, and the flute and piano albums.
Claude Bolling Jazz CDs.......2006-11-10
I was delighted to discover the Claude Bolling collection available on Amazon. I used to play the flute suite but didn't know he had written for other instruments. I purchased this CD for a cellist grandson.
Great music, but ..........2006-09-20
I echo the comments of other reviewers in praising the music. It's very creative, very interesting, and the combination of instruments gives it a depth that it might not otherwise have. However, I found the quality of the recording to be poor. I admit I have a cheap audio system, but other recordings with similar instruments sound much better. Hence 4 stars instead of 5.
Ma continues to Expand his Repertoire.......2003-10-17
Bolling has left the rather confined world of the Jazz trio (piano, flute, bass + percussion - that's a quartet isn't it?) and expanded into other areas. The cello seems an odd choice for a jazz adventure but somehow it seems absolutely correct in these circumstances.
Ma has traveled from the beautiful solitude of the solo Bach Sonatas to the ravishing sensuousness of the Tango to "modern" chamber music and now to sophisticated jazz settings. Each of these pieces seems written with him in mind (and maybe that was the case) and if not, it is as near a perfect fit as one can imagine. The yearning of the cello combines with the other instruments to produce some of the most beautiful sounds around. This is a winner.
Bolling and Ma--a combination made in heaven!.......2002-10-07
Claude Bolling and Yo-Yo Ma are a combination made in heaven on Bolling's "Suite for Cello & Jazz Piano Trio." Once again marvelously mixing together many of the basic ingredients of classical and jazz, Bolling serves up a deliciously rich stew of musical influences that manages always to sound fresh, never derivative.
"Baroque in Rhythm" opens the album with a, well, baroque sound. Ma serenely carries the first few minutes of the song himself, when Bolling and his bassist and drummer come in for back-up. The result is pure, propulsive magic. "Galop" has the feel of a musical dressage session, with Ma's cello richly filling the role of spirited horse, and Bolling's piano providing a prancing, mincing sound to back up the illusion. "Romantique" starts off sounding as though it's actually going to be a cheesy lounge ballad, but it soon turns mystical and minor and rich. Bolling can pack regret and memory and smoky sadness into piano-playing like practically no one else I know. "Romantique" is truly a magically evocative composition. On the song "Cello Fan," Bolling's piano and Ma's cello playfully sound as though they're racing each other, or else talking to each other at very high speed, each rushing to outdo the other. It's great breathless fun, and the whole album is a treasure.

Product Description
It's been a nice surprise to see High Rise being recognized as one of the best of '06. The reviews have been amazing and it turns out that the record is acheiving top 50 on itunes for weeks in a row. We've also been receiving some unsolicited radio play all over the country. I want to thank all of you who've been so supportive from it's very quiet beginning. I encourage the sharing of music, so if you know someone that might like a song off High Rise burn or share it with them. Ok? We started out selling High Rise on itunes and hard copies via 2minutes59.com Now the growing interest has pursuaded us to put the records in stores. Right now we're striking an agreement with The Coalition of Independent Record Stores / Junketboy. So, High Rise will be available in traditional hard copy exclusively through independent record stores. I'll share a list of these stores soon so you'll know where you can find it in your city! Don't forget about the February tour with Tim Easton. Dates are posted on my myspace homepage. Happy New Year M

Stop and think.......2007-05-03
He makes me think from the head and from the heart, this Matthew Ryan. Because of this I own every CD he has produced. This latest piece maintains the calibre and quality that endears me to his music and to his lyrics. Sweet. Did I say sweet?
What a beauty.......2007-04-10
Though this is my first contact with his material, Ryan has apparently been around awhile, tagged with the dreaded "alt country" label. Whatever that may have been about, this is another type of creature, combining a grit and beauty rarely seen in today's pop music. Surrounding sumptuous melodies with a combination rock-and-ambient instrumentation (much better than I'm making it sound), this is a superbly crafted & heartfelt piece of work, cinematic in its scope & delivery. More to come, I hope!

If Rieu is not the most outstanding purveyor of Viennese waltzes and similar light-hearted fare, he is certainly the most popular and well-known. There are plenty of fun pieces on this album, although, to be just a tad pedantic, more of it is Italian and French than remotely Viennese. But it's all fun, and it's all well-played. --Sarah Bryan Miller
Customer Reviews:
Music different from title.......2007-05-26
The title of this CD was misleading. I wanted an entire CD of Viennese waltzes to play at a party, and was disappointed that there were marches, etc. on the CD. A better title would've been "The Vienna I Love, Music From My Heart".
André Rieu - The Vienna I love - Waltzes From My Heart.......2006-07-17
The music is so upbeat and you are automatically in a good mood. It is a real pleasure listening to this CD and it is done frequently.
Excellent choice.......2006-05-03
I am really a rock music fan but I enjoy this version of light classical music. It may not be for the serious classical music enthusiast, but it is still considered excellent light entertainment. What a way to introduce classical music to a wider audience!
Pop Strauss, et al.......2004-04-30
I was looking for truly Viennese renditions of Strauss waltzes. Though unrelentingly upbeat, this isn't it. There are medleys of Strauss, Offenbach, Rossini, and everyone else imaginable. It's a pop version of what was once pop on its own. I know Strauss isn't serious classical fare, but this trivializes it.
Depressed? Listen to this!.......2002-09-25
Having one of those ho-hum days just like that little round guy on the Zoloft commercial? Place this on your CD, press start, and don't fight it! You will be dancing around the living room (provided you don't fight it, just let it go!). Musically, it is a very fine piece from a very fine artist. It can totally transport you. So many of the tunes you will know from TV commercials, (Rheingold Beer) etc. It is a solid beautiful collection of tunes that can stir the soul. I know it sounds schmaltzy, but if it can make you feel better, why not try it?

The Basso Profundo recording reminds one of the recordings of Tibetan Monks in chant and is very stirring.
Finally, a recording I can sing along with!.......2006-11-04
As a low bass and wannabe octavist, I really enjoy singing along with this recording. Luckily, I have performed the Rachmaninov "All Night Vigil", Tchaikovshy "Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom", and other works in Old Church Slavonic, so the words are mostly familiar.
I still find it amazing that these singers can make notes in the midrange still sound low! Enjoy!
Good Music from Russia.......2005-07-21
This CD is very good for those who like orthodox music. Buy it!
Great CD.......2003-03-02
I have done a good bit of research on basso profundo's, contrabasses, etc and these guys seem to be lower than any I've heard. The soloist on "Do Not Reject Me In My Old Age" has a full voiced G1, below low bass C which he hits a number of times on the CD. Very amazing recording... good musically, not the VERY best choir I've ever heard or anything, but definetly good. Russian music is great, many of the tracks are very dark musically, but there are some more majestic tracks, and a few tracks that sound kinda militaristic.
Well Below the Bass Range.......2002-01-15
The music on this CD won't be to everyone's liking, but the unique sound of the voice of a "basso profundo" or "octavist"
is a musical rarity that shouldn't be missed. These basses have a gripping effect, with a timbre resembling that of an organ's pedal tones. These basses can sing the low A below the bass range. They are, simply, extraordinarily powerful voices. Savor the unearthly sound of them. Who knows - you might just get to like Russian polyphonic liturgical chant, as well.

Great Live Album!.......2006-11-03
I really like this one. Not as good as Living in Clip, but probably my second favorite of her live albums. Her storytelling in between songs can get very kooky and great, i love them. This is a must have for any Ani fan.
Remarkable for early versions of "Serpentine" and "Self Evident".......2006-10-07
Ani DiFranco, famously independent within the music industry, continues to self-release all of her output on her own "Righteous Babe" label. Ani has released a couple of live albums over her 17 year career to date, including the definitive and all-encompassing 2002 release "So Much Shouting, So Much Laughing", which is basically a "greatest hits live" release.
"Carnegie Hall 4.6.02" (15 tracks, 68 min.) was recorded on the same tour that would give us the "So Much Shouting" release, but this recoding is very different: for one, this is just Ani solo, no backing band. For another, this recording includes early versions of 2 epic songs within the Ani DiFranco catalogue: the 10 min. "Serpentine", in which Ani assails anything and everything that represents "authority", including Democrats and Republicans alike, but of course also "big business". (The fleshed out version of this song was eventually released on the 2003 album "Evolve".) The other piece is the 9+ min. "Self Evident": not a song, but a spoken piece in which Ani resets the 9/11 tragedy in her own words and world ("On the day that America fell onto its knees"). While I don't see the connection, Ani has no trouble linking 9/11 to her beliefs that there is no freedom of the press here and that America is not a democracy. Does it not strike anyone as ironic that Ani is not bothered by anyone saying these things and makes a living, and a very nice one at it, performing all over this country and proclaiming these "truths"?
I saw Ani and her band in concert on that Spring, 2002 tour, and when she brought "Self Evident" (which was a new piece at that time), the entire theater was just bowled over by the performance. I don't necessarily agree with her view of things, but one cannot help but admire the "art" and the "artist" in such a performance. The "Carnegy Hall" album is not essential as such in Ani's catalogue (if you don't have it yet, check out the "So Much Shouting" live album), but this album does bring a fascinating "snapshot of a moment", as Ani puts it herself in the excellent liner notes.
Recommended for all........2006-08-10
Well, I was in FYE, with their little scanny-headphone "preview your cd' things.
This one won out over reprieve.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think I totally know reprieve from five minutes of samples, and I plan to but it too, but for that day, that moment with a spare twenty dollar bill in my hand, this live album was better than reprieve. (or, at least, it will be until I buy reprieve and like it better.)
I've only been following ani's works for about two years, so I'm not totally familiar with all her material. However, my two favorite tracks are Self Evident and Serpentine; They are both on this album, one after another. And, at the time of this recording, they were just works in progress. It's cool to hear the way they progress from this live show to their respective album versions. And, while I still don't get the concept of "official bootlegs" (how can a bootleg be official, exactly?) I plan on buying every other ani bootleg. That is, after I buy reprieve.
A Must-Have for any Avid Ani Fan..........2006-04-12
I just recently received the entire lot of ani's 'official bootleg' series (yes, there are seven others that you gave purchase via her site), and I have to say that Carnegie Hall is, by far, one of the best.
While there are only a few songs from way back in the day, it's a fine compilation of some of her best work. After years of being an Ani fan, I still find myself astounded by her brilliance and talent as an artist and musician.
Carnegie Hall is a solo album...just Ani with her guitar. Though many of the songs are new, it is very reminescent of a lot of her earlier work.
For new Ani fans, get this CD and listen to: The first three tracks, Gratitude, and, of coursre, Out of Range.

Like a rainy day in a good bookstore.......2007-07-10
"Always pleasant, never a false cord." That's what I think each time I listen to this collection. I guess I should be listening more closely, but I find the music and the virtuosity with which it is played to be a springboard to other thoughts and activities. I can read with it in the background, write with it or simply drift into thought. And that is really quite enough for me.
Not "Ultimate", but Wonderful!.......2007-03-29
As good a guitarist as Julian Bream is, one must begin by acknowledging that the title of this 2-CD set containing 32 admittedly seminal pieces written for hand-played strings ( primarily, the lute) is a tad hyperbolistic. An "Ultimate" collection of anything would have to be more complete, by definition, than any two CDs can be and, again, it almost goes without saying that no two people are apt to be in total agreement about what should or should not have been included in any such collection. All caveats considered and aside, this is, indeed, a thoughtfully selected and masterfully performed collection of what is, unarguably, some of the very best classical pieces ever written for the lute. Bream plays some of them on the guitar and others on a renaissance lute - the latter giving a somewhat truer indication of the stylings and musical nuances intended by the various composers. But, even the pieces he plays on the guitar - an instrument that, in it's current form, did not exist when many of the pieces were originally composed - are sensitive and lyrical interpretations that sound as if they MIGHT have been composed for the guitar.
Without spending space here reiterating the specific pieces, their titles and lengths, I will simply list the composers whose works Bream presents so nicely in this collection. They span a range of about five centuries beginning in the time of England's Elizabeth I and spanning the years through to the 20th Century's premier Spanish and Brazilian classical guitar composers. The list reads like a `Whose Who" of classical plucked-string instrument music and of composers whose keyboard compositions work particularly well on the strings of a lute or guitar, and includes;
- John Dowland
- Francis Cutting
- Antonio Vivaldi
- Gaspar Sanz (*)
- Mateo Albeniz (*)
- Manuel de Falla
- Enrique Granados (*)
- Hector Villa-Lobos, and
- Joaquin Rodrigo
(*) = Pieces originally written for keyboard play.
Every classical guitarist has his own recognizable style and approach to the instrument and the material. An experience listener would not confuse Bream's work with that of Andres Segovia, for example: but it is not that one is better than the other. Each, in his own distinctive way, is simply superb. Though the Spanish influence is clearly audible with both musicians, Bream's stylings have a more contemporary lilt and inflection than do those of Segovia; he makes each piece his own. One suspects that each time he plays a piece it comes out differently according to the moment, his mood, the instrument and God knows what else. Segovia, on the other hand, was well known for his constancy once he had found a version of each piece that fully suited his own ear and temperament.
While I am admittedly a Segovia fan, I find Bream's renditions to be noticeably fresher and each infused with an aura of presence in the here-and-now which I find especially enjoyable.
The collection is neither complete not `ultimate', but it is VERY good and well worth having in any collection of classical guitar music. In fact, for audiophiles not familiar with this genre, it is a fair place to begin to develop an ear for and a listener's knowledge of and experience with the classical guitar.
I recommend it highly.
Everyone would love this album!.......2007-01-16
This album is fantastic. Easy to listen to and wonderful background music for working or dinner parties
Incredible.......2005-10-24
This is the leading guitar player of his generation at his best.
He is especially amazing in the second CD, with some of the solo guitar transcriptions of Albeniz. His rendition of Rodrigo's three pieces is also sublime.
I can't imagine anybody buying this cd then regretting it.
One well worth the price of two.......2004-09-25
This two cd set is an odd juxtaposition. The first cd consists of a sampler of Bream's career output - but without (and I believe the omission is disgraceful) any acknowledgement of Bream's significant contribution toward the creation of a truly 20th century concert repertoire for guitar. The second cd is a re-release of his superb early 1980's recording of Albeniz and Granados transcriptions with the added bonus of a sublime interpretation of the "Three Spanish Pieces" by J Rodrigo.
Speaking as a musician I find the selections and the production of the first cd problematic. We get a few of the more lightweight examples of renaissance lute and baroque guitar (but no JS Bach and no (solo) baroque lute work); we get no vihuela repertoire and nothing truly representative of classical period composition. We do have all six movements from two contrasting concertos but the remainder of the cd consists mostly of neo-romantic repertoire from the twentieth century. Worse still, the recording quality is highly variable; for example one of the Villa Lobos pieces sounds as though it was recorded in an indoor swimming complex. Given the cd's title more care should have been taken to better represent Bream's career and musical diversity. In the opinion of one familiar with Bream's output this is a disappointing selection. Well played but not representative of the artist nor the art form.
However the opposite is the case with the second cd. These recordings were made at a time when Bream set out to commit to (then) vinyl, via the guitar, the musical heritage of Spain. Bream here was at the height of his interpretive power - and a fine film documentary also resulted from this endeavour.
The inclusion of the Rodrigo set makes this cd a better buy than the original Albeniz and Granados recording, although those who find this compilation rewarding might perhaps profit from researching Bream's catalogue, and adding the complete recording from which the Rodrigo is sourced (circa 1980-90) to their collection.
As for the Albeniz and Granados Bream offers his own transcriptions. These tread a fine line between fidelity to the piano scores and Bream's concept of what works on the guitar. As a general observation Bream seeks to include significantly more of the original score's textures than do many of his peers (e.g. J Williams, P Romero). At the same time he is not averse to significantly modifying the original (e.g. amongst others 'Granada' and 'Cordoba'). Such a process is part of any transcription but here the results are not only excellent but also personal to Bream, as a result we have further confirmation of the craft of a great performing artist.
Every listener will discover their own favourites and I have more than space allows me to relate. I believe that Bream brings more expression to his performances of the Valses Poeticos by Granados than any other guitarist I have heard, and the Passacaglia by Rodrigo is played with such a sense of a brooding menace that my spine tingles every time I listen to it.
The second cd alone is worth twice the compilation's asking price.

A vibrant tribute to MGM's legendary confluence of brains, talent, hard work, ambition--and dare we say it?--massive egos, Singin' in the Rain long ago took its rightful place among the first rank of the studio's dizzying catalog of film musicals. This double-disc, 46-track 50th-anniversary edition features all of the film's familiar songs, as well as numerous outtakes and extended versions, many culled directly from the film's original recording masters. Its second disc also chronicles the film's clever--if studio imposed--self-referential musical gambit of recycling a slate of Arthur Freed/Nacio Herb Brown songs from Metro's first decade by including 14 of the originals, including performances by Jeanette McDonald, Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, and Freed himself. Featuring a dozen previously unreleased recordings and an illustrated booklet containing the insightful reminiscences of the film's original writers, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, it's the ultimate musical companion to one of cinema's magical, enduring masterpieces. --Jerry McCulley

the perfect movie.......2007-03-10
My old Gene did it: the perfect movie, the perfect american history, the perfect music. Some people think musicals are "B" movies. I say them: look about the dream, the performance, the music.
Who can say what is beatiful? Look at faces of Gene and Stan during the shooting on the set: whole concentration and attention for everything.
This is a unique moment in their story, and in the story of cinema.
Unforgettable.
I LOVE MY FAVORITE SONG, AND THANKS TO THIS CD I CAN LISTEN TO IT ALL DAY LONG!!.......2007-01-28
I love Singin' in the Rain. It was the movie that made me like musicals, not those simple, mellow movies like South Pacific and the Sound of Music, but REAL musicals, with people like Fred Astaire or Eleanor Powell tapping their hearts out, or great singers like Frances Langford or Dick Powell putting over a song like they mean it.The Singin' in the Rain 2disc special edition introduced me to my favorite movie, the Broadway Melody of 1936, the MOST AMAZING MOVIE EVER! So I was so glad when my parents got me the soundtrack to Singin' in the Rain, and besides the music of the 1951 versions of the Nacio Herb Brown/Arthur Freed, there are also the original versions of the songs in their original movies. I am so glad that Rhino put the duet of Robert Taylor and June Knight singing I've Got a Feelin' You're Foolin' on this CD set! It's my favorite song, and now I can listen to it! Hooray!! It's the best song EVER!! There's also vocals of Charles King singing the Broadway Melody, which is great! And many more, like Bing Crosby, Frances Langford, Jeanette MacDonald, and other great singers I can't think of right now. This CD set is great, the sound is nice and un-staticy (mostly), there are 30-plus songs, and the price is phenomenal. I love my favorite song, and now I can listen to it all day long!! Yay! :)
Wonderful Soundtrack to a Wonderful Movie.......2006-06-16
Yes, this is it--the first real musical I ever saw. Okay, I saw "Wizard of Oz" and "The Sound of Music", and I love both of those musicals dearly. I had even seen "My Fair Lady." I thought musicals were all like those. Until this one. I had never seen such dancing. And this CD causes me to relive the joy of the musical each time I listen to it. Complete with the tap sounds. I love that they included even the deleted songs. Now we just need a DVD that has all the deleted scenes in context. But the studio probably threw all those away. Oh well, our imaginations can take care of what is missing.
Great CD.......2006-03-20
This is a great CD of music for your family to listen to. Our family enjoys it very much.
musical memories.......2006-03-14
I enjoyed this CD very much, as I remember seeing the movie years ago. I grew up watching MGM musicals and this was one of the best. I loved all of the wonderful songs that came from this movie. Great sound on this CD.

This second installment of what looks to be an ongoing series carries the usual selection of mellow mainstream on the first disc and a typically intriguing collection of lesser-known compositions on the second. The acoustic guitar alongside Nelly Furtado's voice on "Party (Reprise Mix)" is a wonderfully melancholic surprise on the first disc, while Goldfrapp deliver the smoky, Air-esque "Lovely Head." Purists will again find the second disc worth its weight, as Tosca's "Honey (Supatone 1 Dub)," the again excellent Witchman, with "Mekong," and Timo Maas's "Hash Driven" give the disc a nice, dub-driven spine. Extra credit is awarded for not only reviving the Specials' brilliant "Ghost Town," but for making it work as part of a chill-style compilation. If Chilled 01 was your cup of chai, then 02 will further serve both your needs and chillin' education. --Steffan Chirazi

Commercialized 'Chill'.......2005-02-08
Most savvy listeners of the 'Chill' genre will realize the term itself is extremely broad, and can include anything from Zero 7 and Moby to The Dining Rooms and Thievery Corporation, plus a few other things in between. But Coldplay?
Don't get me wrong - I love Coldplay, and I daresay 'don't panic' is one of my favorite songs. But in my collection I most certainly do NOT have my Coldplay albums filed under 'Chill;' I have them filed under 'Rock' where they belong. Plus, adding insult to injury, there is absolutely no mixing -- a hallmark of an excellent 'Chill' compilation album is the subtle ebb and flow through mixing from track to track, as well as the inclusion of a few remixes to spice up your well-worn favorite tunes (for example, a remix of 'don't panic,' although I shudder to imagine such a thing, would have been an appropriate attempt instead of just slapping the LP version on there).
This compilation is really nothing more than a smattering of popular tunes and a few 'Chill' overplayed (but still good) standards (i.e. 'Lebanese Blonde,' by Thievery Corporation). You could get a similar effect by putting your CD or MP3 collection on random, wildly transitioning from rock to jazz to funk and back again. I liken this type of commercialized mass production and sensationalism to the ever popular (but sadly tasteless) 'Pure Moods' CDs - it's simply an attempt to grab the cash of inexperienced listeners new to a specific musical genre.
Spend your $$ on something more worthwhile, like the fantastic 'Hed Kandi' compilations instead, such as the 'Serve Chilled' series or the 'Winter Chill' series. The import price might be steep for you, but you'll definitely be glad of the investment after listening.

A pair of disc that you don't get off your cd player or cd wallet because they're really good music !!!
Get yours and enjoy !!!
Buyer Beware - defective (ie "copy protected" disk).......2004-08-02
The music is fine but if you listen to your music on a computer, be aware that the disk is "copy protected" (a nice way of saying "defective by design") so that one track won't play correctly on a computer or transfer to an iPod or MP3 player. You gets pops and stutters. Apparently the makers of the disk presume that we are all thieves and act accordingly; I wanted a legal copy on my iPod because that's how I listen to my music but no dice. They stole my money. Don't let them steal yours.
BOOOOOOOORING...........2004-02-13
I'm not an expert in lounge music, but I know what I like, most of us GenXers like Lounge Music that is smooth, sexy and intriguing, that's what a chilled album should have, something you can listen to while having a nice conversation with your date... However, this copilation is something that you would listen to if you want to put your date to sleep, and I'm not talking about sleeping with your date, I'm talking about watching your date sleep... all in all I thought it lacked imagination and I agree with others when they say it is way too predictable.. Nevertheless, to give it some credit (2stars) there are a couple of songs worth listening to or at least burning into a different cd..
If you're a college freshman..........2003-12-03
...then you might want this to balance your Linkin Park and 50 Cent CDs when you have girls over.
Otherwise, it's not worth your money. There is no mixing on the CDs, and the selections are pretty random. I like the Specials, for example, but I certainly wouldn't have included 'Ghost Town' on a downtempo mix.
If you are over 20, look into releases from Eighteenth Street Lounge (i.e. home of Thievery Corp. and great compilations) and Grand Central Records, or the Naked Music series.
