Starlings, TN have released a fine collection of music on their long-awaited "The Leaper's Fork" CD. These Tennessee gentlemen have rolled their collective love of Doc Watson, Steve Earle, The Gourds, Jerry Garcia, and Spiritualized into a unique blend of Southern fried front-porch psychedelia. Basically a genetically enhanced string band, Starlings TN construct their unique sound with the drones of the Appalachian dulcimer (acoustic and highly-processed bowed electric), with mandolin, guitar, and Irish bouzouki. The inclusion of dulcimer wizard David Schnaufer on the CD is an added treat, and fitting since a few of the traditionals were recorded live in his kitchen/studio. Schnaufer's original "Sarah" has been re-arranged by the Starlings TN for this recording, and it is sure to be a favorite of No Depression readers worldwide. Fans of Johnny Cash, Grateful Dead, Spiritualized, Elvis Costello, and any band on Bloodshot Records will all find something appealing in "The Leaper's Fork."...Remember: Don't rock, wobble.
