DORK [Explicit Lyrics]

About the Artist
Combine Bob Dylan and Tom Leherer and you get Loudon Wainwright III...do it on a shoestring Budget and record it over an old Dead Milkmen tape and you get Adam Brodsky.Armed only with a Guitar and a Harmonica, this antifolk warrior gleefully skewers any topic that enters his twisted mindCMJ

Album Description

Welcome To Loserville is the debut album by ex-Busted member James Bourne's new band, the bizarrely monikered Son Of Dork. A collection of melodic punk rock stormers, the album may be short on subtlety, but that is more than made up for by the sheer exuberance and energy of the songs, reminiscent of bands such as busted and Blink 182. Includes the single 'Ticket Outta Loserville'. Mercury. 2005.

4 out of 5 stars UK's version of The Starting Line.......2006-06-18

Take the music and melodies of the starting line and mix em' with early blink 182 lyrics, and you have one of the UK's biggest acts. Unlike busted and mcfly, which were further down the pop end of pop-punk, Son of Dork walk the line very well, putting just as much emphasis on the punk as the pop. "ticket outta loserville" is one of the best pop-punk songs I've heard in awile, and the intro to "slacker" recalls pop-punk classics like "secondary" (brand new) and "up and go" (the starting line) in that it's rich in complex guitar melodies that'll stay stuck in your head during the song and long after it ends. There are two or three 'ballads' on this ten track collection, which keeps it out of my top pop-punk albums list, but for what it's worth, the ballads are actually pretty good. I have no idea what the other reviewer wrote (it wasn't in english, for godsakes), but if he thinks they sound anything like wheatus or neve, he needs hearing aids. For fans of: Blink 182, New Found Glory and The Starting Line. If you think UK music is only bands like Keane and The Fray; My how you are mistaken.

5 out of 5 stars Great Power Pop album .......2005-11-24

4-Party's Over: Otra balada con comienzo Popero y estribillo rockero.

Otro Uptempo. En la parte final un arranque punkie. Los cambios de ritmo de lo mejor.

9-Wear Me Down: Me recuerda a Can't break thru.

Intro: Muy buena idea meter intro, y meter canción oculta.

Resume: Great power pop album (Rock subgenre), not simply Pop Rock influenced by Punk Pop groups like Busted was. More into Wheatus, Neve scene

        Album Description

Dork, the album captures the spontaneity and quirks of Adam's live performances: assaultive, rembling and/or profane banter; impromptu musical rearrangements; forgotten lyrics; ad-libbed pandering interspersed with scouring asides; and, eventually the Songs. Adam's Skills as an incisive songwriter are often overshadowed by the crudeness and candor of his performances. Hopefully, DORK will dispel, or at least amend, adam's reputation as an abrasive fraud with a probable personality disorder by proving once and for all that, despite the insolence, the seedy appearance and overall lack of professionalism, it is the songs that truly matter. This album repeatedly demonstrates why synapsing organisms prefer the wit and acuity of Adam's songs to his prattle.

If you like to be entertained by music, this artist will not disappoint you. I have heard a few tracks on various internet radio stations and I am pleased to find this recording on Amazon.com. I am the kind of listener that will not buy an album for just a few songs. Brodsky is a brilliant songwriter and should be hailed as one.

5 out of 5 stars Folk with more attitude than punk and more wit than anyone.......1999-06-19

Adam Brodsky does a good job of hiding his clever intellect with hysterical banter and ridiculous song topics (e.g., "A Gaucho Named Klaus" about Nazis living in South American after World War Two). However, his brilliance comes shining through despite his best efforts to seem like a devil-may-care amateur. Sure, he blows it sometimes and forgets a line or two, but his easy self-deprecating recovery just makes him that much more endearing and menschy. He's that rare combination of talent that doesn't take itself too seriously and may even have its best moments when flying off the cuff--way off the cuff. The only thing better than his CD is his live shows, although barely since Dork manages to capture that same energy and charisma. If nothing else, pick up this disk to hear him rhyme tsunami with salami--no one could ever accuse Adam of being unoriginal.

        5 out of 5 stars I'm a straight girl and I even like it!.......1999-05-14

It's good, it's real good, pop it in the car for a long drive, sit back, close your eyes - no don't close your eyes you're driving - relax and listen to the sounds of my favorite anti folk songwriter on the east coast!

        5 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece.......1999-04-01

Impossibly witty, fearless and incisive...Adam is blessedly unique and usually brilliant.

The Automatics' lead singer and acclaimed writer of enduring punk-pop songs, David Philp, was at the top of the charts in 1978 with When the Tanks Roll Over Poland Again. At the close of 2006, he is at the top of the charts again with Old River Thames, the single from his album concerning all things English, "Britannia." The songs have been compared by rock critics to those of Ray Davies of the Kinks.
