The LP's 10 tracks leap from the punkish anger of "I Wanna Destroy You" to the threatening crawl of "I Got the Hots," the angelically anthemic "Tonight," and Hitchcock's singular spin on the Beefheart-drenched blues of "Old Pervert" ("I won't do you no harm, I just wanna show you what's in my fridge/So come on, little girl, is your name Hester or maybe it's Midge?"). Nine exemplary bonus tracks, including an early Hitchcock seafood meditation "Where Are the Prawns?" and the raging metaphysical English-history tribute "Only the Stones Remain," complete the first disc. The second consists of nearly an hour of vintage lo-fi rehearsal tapes that will ultimately prove essential only to hardcore fans. Underwater Moonlight, (The second studio album from the soft boys) is in my opinion one of the best albums ever. The soft boys first album, A can of bee's is more of a harder album than Underwater Moonlight, that doesn't live up to the consistancy on underwater moonlight. Every song on here, weather you've got the original album with the original ten songs, or you've got the newer release, (...and how it got there) along with the original ten songs, it's all great. The music and the lyrics are both at five star material. This music speaks to you weather your young or old. The sound is remarkable and has extrordinary vocals that harmonize perfectly to give the band it's signature sound ex., I wanna destoy you, Underwater Moonlight (the song) and reminds me of The Kinks, REM, and The Replacements. You can definetly see how this band influenced all the great 80's underground power pop bands to come. Pick this one up and you will not want to put it down.

Like The Smiths' "The Queen Is Dead" and The Replacements' "Let It Be", The Soft Boys' "Underwater Moonlight . . . And How It Got There" is another great college rock album from the 80's (1980) that I'm confident most people will love! Every song here is great and absolutely fun to listen to. Singer Robyn Hitchcock does an excellent job with the vocals, and I'm pretty sure that most people will love him - he definitely fits the music. The lyrics are easy to make out here and are always fun, catchy and interesting to listen to. The musicianship is dated sounding, but in a good way - you can tell this was made in 1980. As for it's style, it's essentially 80's college rock. Regardless of this it sounds fantastic anyway, and I'm sure it's style will be appealing to most people. The production here is pretty good, but I think it may be ready for an ice remastering. Overall, if you like rock music at all, there's no way you won't love The Soft Boys' "Underwater Moonlight . . . And How It Got There". Absolutely recommended!

AHHHHHH!! So Awesome!!!.......2005-08-09

Why didn't these guys have commercial success?!? These songs are fantastically humorous and witty, not to mention well sung/written/played. There is not one bad song on this entire album; they're all wonderfully odd and eccentric. It's outstanding. I’m just in such awe at the fact that this album isn’t even in any of my local CD stores; in fact there are no Soft Boys’ CDs in my local stores. The only place you can find these guys is on record, so thank god for Ebay! This band is so unique it’s very hard to categorize them or even compare them to anybody. Robyn Hitchcock has a Lou Reedish quality about him, however he can sing much better, the harmonies on this album are just plain awesome. The guitar playing is also quite outlandish, the songs float all over the place, but that’s what makes it all so great. PURCHASE THIS!

A great classic gets the Rolls Royce treatment.......2004-01-30

I have to admit to having slightly mixed feelings about the practice of issuing classics with all kinds of extra cuts. I am enormously grateful to possess the extras, but except in the case of SWEETHEART OF THE RODEO by the Byrds (where they add on all the original recordings with Gram Parsons that were rerecorded when his former manager embroiled him in a lawsuit), the extras are almost never even remotely as good as the original. Invariably, you discover that the real gold was there from the beginning. And this exhaustive version of UNDERWATER MOONLIGHT is no exception. The extras are nice, but the original album is still what makes buying it worthwhile. But as extras go, I do have to say that I was quite surprised at just how very good the extras on this album were. The songs are consistently interesting, some are quite excellent, and the playing is always superb. For instance, "There's Nobody Like You" features some absolutely stellar guitar work.

The original UNDERWATER MOONLIGHT was simply one of the truly great albums of the 1980s, and is still perhaps Robyn Hitchcock's finest achievement. Every song on the original album was brilliant, and the playing was sharper than Hitchcock was to receive later with The Egyptians. The worst song was at least very good, while several were nothing short of masterpieces. The album stars brilliantly with the stunning "I Wanna Destroy You," and continues on through one great song after another, from "Kingdom of Love and "Positive Vibrations" to "I Got the Hots" and "Insanely Jealous," before ending with "Queen of Eyes" and the epic title track.

It is hard now to remember who shockingly original the Soft Boys were when they first hit the scene. Taking their name from William S. Burroughs, they managed to be musically original, punkishly aggressive, artistically edgy, and amazingly quirky all at the same time. I have remained a Robyn Hitchcock fan ever since this album, but I'm not sure he has ever been this on the edge since. Kimberley Rew gave the band a spectacular harshness that Hitchcock has not always possessed. The quirkiness has come to play more and more a role in Hitchcock's music since. Anyone who has seen him live knows that in between songs he can engage in some verbal digressions that are simultaneously hysterically funny and clinically odd at the same time (I don't think there is any question that he could be either a stand up comedian or a comic performance artist if he so chose). I think the other members of the Soft Boys helped give his music a richness he did not always find later, even though one could argue that his songwriting would continue to improve.

I notice that Amazon has labeled this one of the Essentials, and so it is. Whenever I peruse someone's record or CD collection and see that they have this album, I always know that they know their music. Anyone who loves music and doesn't already own this, needs to.

underwater and underground.......2002-05-19

The Soft Boys were one of the best live post-punk acts I ever saw - heavy, eclectic, playful, with a singer like Rasputin the mad monk who ranted some awesomely perverse and intricate lyrics. However, they never escaped the underground. They had two problems: first, they never translated onto record. This, their best, is a great document, but generally sounds too polite, and has a way too clean, over-trebly production. An all-time Top 100 record in my book, this is the one most needing a decent remaster. Second, their material was quite difficult to get a handle on. Unlike other bands of the time, who attempted complete rejection of existing musical forms, Soft Boys foreshadowed the modern rock-history-as-resource attitude, borrowing harmony vocals, garage-psychedelic stylings and Beefheart skronk to form a kind of complex, psychologically disturbed post-rock which was nothing like the de rigeur dubby, chickenscratch minimalism of a Banshees or PiL. Also, they were much less obviously finger-givers than people like the Gang of Four or The Pop Group, and the anti- attitude tended to be where it was at. All this made it difficult for angry young men of the time to get a handle on the group.

Despite these issues leading to the instant obscurity of the band, `Underwater Moonlight' is ageing very well and the content is so good it deserves top rating. Basically a pop record, it covers a lot of styles and much trad pop content (as well as some mad surrealist stuff never seen before), including the time-honoured boy-girl theme, which, it has to be said, gets a radical seeing-to: `Insanely Jealous' is by some distance the best-ever song about obsession after being dumped, with murderously manic lead which blows your head off despite the production. `I Wanna Destroy You' hates everyone, but is dressed in seductive harmonies. It's also very funny. `Kingdom of Love' is a standout, a song whose chosen metaphor for sexual obsession is chin-infesting lice with heads that look like that of the object of desire. Yes, that's right. `Old Pervert' is a great track about feeling unattractive, over-sexed, and past it, buying into the neuroses that afflicted intellectual long-maccers at the time (well, me anyway). My personal favourite, though, is `You'll Have To Go Sideways', an instrumental which gets the Soft Boys' intransigent onstage lock-down absolutely right, with the group climbing one of their signature interlocking staircase structures. Insane arpeggios are backed by psychedelic swathes of glare-delay; this is manic psychedelia for mathematicians. Everything else is good-to-great as well.

All in all 'Underwater Moonlight' is a beautiful reminder of the creativity, intelligence and honesty which music briefly went through in the post-punk years, just before everyone went entryist and eighties synth-pop was inflicted upon us. It deserves to be much better known.

I find this LP real fun to listen to. The Boogiemonster's (Vex, Mondo, Yodared, and Myntric) first LP Riders Of The Storm: The Underwater Album, has those early 90's vibes that are real easily to listen to. The track "Jugganouts" really has that nostalgic sound, which is a good thing for me. Me, also, who has little or no interest in religous topics when it comes to hip hop, can listen to "Mark Of The Beast" and "The Old Man Jacob's Well" easily. I mean, these guys flow perfectly, with absolutely no profanity. The production here is real mellow, especially when listening to "Recognized Thresholds Of Negative Stess" (even though I like the Stressless Mix better). A favorite of mine would be would be "Bronx Bombas" (I think thats Mondo rhyming). Probably because of the onstage vibe of that song with the rhymes. The only problem with that is it's only one verse. "Salt Water Taffy (Slo Jam)" is another easy standout on the album. Seriously, there is nothing wrong with this album. You'll find zero amount of filler here.

Riders Of The Storm: The Underwater Album, is one of the best of '94, and more than likely it was slept on. And the fact that it's out of print, makes it difficult for it to be accessed. If you can find this under $30, go ahead and grab it. This album will remind you why you love hip hop so much. Peace!!

Imaginative and refreshing........2007-05-20

I remember seeing the video to 'positive thresholds of neagtive stress' on MTV raps in 1994, just before the album dropped, but due to limited availability in the muisc stores I forgot all about it for 11 years.

Obviously with the Internet allowing very easy accessibilty to all music, I checked out the whole album over a year ago and did not hesitate to buy a copy. It is one of the more complex, creative and dynamic albums, which at first is almost too overwhelming to take in straight away, due to it's vast content both lyrically, and musically. Each track sets a different theme, and creates a completely different, atmospheric listen.

Throughout the album I was very impressed by the amount of hard work that had gone into this album, especialy the depth and diversity of the beats, which incorporate so many different styles and then blending them to suit the theme of the track. The vocal deliveries and many styles of flow, both slow deep and dark to more contemporary for that era, are also still ahead in content and concept to the usual attempt of being original.

'Old man Jacob's well, is brilliant lyrically, also an excellently produced track, similar in theme to 'mark of the beast', the darkest track here, but thought provoking and so intricate in it's arrangement that it just doesn't ever get boring. This is why this album will survive the test of time and stand out amongst thousands of others.

Each track has it's own sound and mood, and influences of many other genres of music are all carefully weeved in to create a very slept on album from 1995.

It's a nice refection of ying and yang throughout, nice vibes and relaxed deliveries which flow smooth over the more jazzier of the beats, to the other end of the scale.

If you like your hip hop deep, moody, funky, spirital, atmospheric, and most of all underground and experimental, then this is for you.

AS SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT GO TO CHURCH, AND REALLY HAD NO SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE, I FELT THAT THIS WAS A REFRESHING ALTERNATIVE TO THE RELIGIOUS PROPAGANDA WE ARE USED TO BEING TOLD. BY THAT I MEAN, WITHOUT REALLY KNOWING WHAT IS TRUE OR NOT, YOU HAVE TO SIT THERE IN CHURCH, AND BE TOLD SOMETHING BY SOMEONE WHO WAS NOT THERE.

I AM ALSO NOT SAYING THAT THIS RAP GROUP WAS THERE, BUT THEY TELL YOU THESE STORIES OF WORSHIP, WITHOUT BEING PREACHY, AND IN YOUR FACE, ABOUT MODERN DAY PROBLEMS. THEY USE TODAY'S STRIFE AS PROPHECIES, AND CAN BACK IT UP WITH REAL LIFE EVIDENCE.

TO NEGLECT WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN; IS BAD, AND I, NOR THE GROUP ARE CONDONING THAT, THEY USE THEIR WAY OF CONVICTION, BY CONSCIOUS SELF REVELATION, AND A MICROPHONE. THERE IS NO NEED TO GO SIT WITH HUNDREDS OF OTHERS IN CHURCH TO HEAR SOMEONE RECITE PASSAGES OF TEXT, WRITTEN, AND RE-WRITTEN 100'S OF TIMES OVER, WORRYING ABOUT WHO ELSE BELIEVES. NO, WE HAVE TO HEAR OUR INNER-SELF OUT, AND TAKE FOR OUR OWN PERSONAL WEALTH, BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE IS TELLING US WHAT TO BELIEVE.

THANKS TO THIS GROUP FOR OPENING UP MY EYES, AND REALIZING THAT CHURCH IS JUST ONE WAY OF RELIEVING YOUR MIND, THE REST IS UP TO YOU.

yeah, no one here is lying.. this album is the $#!T
and is on my list of all time classics!

the fact that yodared and myntric left for ?religious reasons
baffles me, cuz they coulda done that on follow ups,
and i woulda still followed as long as it was delivered properly.
anyway, enuff of that bitching & moaning..
let's get back to the perpetual freshness that is at hand.

at the time, everything that these guys were about, i understood..
they spoke to me, much like de la soul did in '89.
besides the beats & lyrics and fashions & trends and videos,
the CONCEPTs behind their name & album title spoke volumes TO ME!
boogiemonsters cuz they were rap-monsters from the boogie down bronx.
ahhh.. BRONX BOMBAS.. what a perfect song..
one verse.. nice lengthy intro, and an even longer outro,
and it was perfect.. all under 3.5 minutes.
and while the UNDERGROUND was buzzing with all types of niceness,
dudes took it to the next level and went underWATER.
remember STRANGE?
"..see seventy percent of the world's underwater
seventy percent of your body's underwater
seventy percent of what we live is out of range
we re-arrange disorder, but niggas say we strange.."
and the RIDERS OF THE STORM reference to the doors..
nevermind that the word RIDER wasn't being used by rappers, yet!

man, i miss these guys tremendously.
unfortunately, i wasn't this crazy with the sophomore jinx.
god sound just wasn't as engaging as a whole to me.
but who cares cuz this fixes everything!

there's only a gang of (rap) albums that i can listen to
straight thru ALL THE TIME with no skipping, and this is one of 'em.
even top-of-the-line emcees don't (always) have great complete albums..

go cop it. it's a must.

another cd for my "top ten" list..........2006-02-07

i heard this album when i was a freshman in high school in '94. it blew my mind. the cd belonged to my friend's big sister, and it was probably our favorite one to "borrow" and play to death. i never bought it for myself, which i regretted years later when i was unable to shake the sexy sound of "sweet musik" and unable to find the album for purchase. well, god bless amazon and the way the world brings random sh*t to it! i have found this fantastic album, it is on it's way to me via USPS, and i couldn't be happier!!!

Hauntingly beautiful.......2007-06-20

This was the third or fourth release by TD I had ever purchased. I was just getting into their sound at the time, and this release only served to invigorate my love for their music.

Johannes Schmoelling had departed the band after nearly 6 years and Underwater Sunlight introduced yet another newcomer to the TD lineup: a young Austrian by then name of Paul Haslinger. Paul sems to have brought a new edge to the band's music.

This "concept" album seems to focus on the sea and the life therein (judging by the song titles) and each composition is masterful work of art.

The first track, "Song of the Whale - Part One: From Dawn..." is obviously an allegory to the plight of a vanishing species (in '86 when this album was released, "Save the Whales" was a popular slogan and an issue that seemed to be on everyone's mind at the time). This composition will tear at your heartstrings as Edgar's guitar cries alongside Chris's crystal-clear sequencers, and Paul's melodies.

This album has it all; beautiful, relaxing melodies, up-tempo songs, and atmospheric journeys into the mysteries of the sea.

The last great effort by Tangerine Dream with Chris Franke........2007-06-14

If you are an educated and long time fan of TD then you'll understand the title of this review. I do not consider this their best album ever as stated below. Because TD has had several stages in their long and illustrious career. However..if you take out the soundtracks and live albums, then compare all their albums in the eighties only..when Franke was in the band, then yes this is my favorite. Le Parc and this one are simply fantastic records of the era. It is a beautiful,inspired and oceanic new age record..so to speak. The best one ever? Well they have about 50 or more albums over a 40 year period. I own at least 20. So it depends what kind of electronics your talking about. This album is more musical and involved. I personally will always call Rubycon my favorite. But that's a completely different time period. This is not an acid or soudscape record. It's just a really good feeling record, and a credit to the band that even after more than 10 albums at that point, they still wrote great music. After Chris Franke departed soon after it's release I think TD began to go downward on quality and inspiration. But if you like TD and you want a safe buy. This absolutely is worth the money and time.
You won't be disappointed by any means.

A Synthesizer Lovers Dream!.......2007-05-22

While I have not had enough time to listen to Tangerine Dream's expansive library of music, I have to say of what I have heard, this is my most favorite on my list. If you love keyboards/synthesizers as much as I do (I am an 80's fanatic), you will not be disappointed. Also, the guitar riffs in this CD by co-founder Edgar Froese are outstanding! My persoanl favorite track is "Dolphin Dance" for its serious yet playful melody. As I hardly ever give any of my CD's the coveted "5 stars", this is an awesome listen for sure... if they only had this in SACD format (haven't found one yet), I could only imagine how expansive the sound would be... in a single word, "Wow!"!

Very interesting.......2007-01-09

Although I am not a huge fan of this kind of music, I have to tell that I find this one really interesting to listen at. The best moments is by far the first two tracks. The progression in the second one is simply sublime. A music to listen alone with eyes closed and ears wide open.

The exceptional work on this CD is the PERFECT TD Resume. Underwater Sunlight shows you why Tangerine Dream is the BEST electronic-rock band in the world. I know; every single CD from TD is a Masterpiece, and, each one is totally unique. But this Masterpiece is everything: it is mystical, emotive, magical, rhytmical, delightful, well structured, superb, melancholical, and crystal clear. This is a must to have for every TD fan an even for those of you who never had listened (I doubt that) TD's music. I can tell you; you can play this CD as many times as you want and you will never get tired of listening it. Buy it now!. Enjoy.

Great CD, Horrible Picks..........2006-04-29

This is a great movie with a GREAT soundtrack, and THE ABSOLUTE BEST let me say it again BEST TRACKS ARE LEFT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Shootout In Stacy's House, the part where Zorin picks up stacy and bond grabs on to the rope and goes for a ride over San Fransisco are just two examples of the great pieces. My advice...WAIT...yes...wait for the RE-REMASTERED version to come out(if they make one which I bet they will). If you are impatient then try to get one REALLY CHEAP.

Good, but missing important parts.......2005-10-21

In "A View to a Kill," Barry is in fine form, including many instances of the exciting themes we associate with 007 movies. To me, the highlight of the movie was tracks where Barry mixes traditional Bond thematic elements with tunes based upon the Duran Duran theme (such as the Wine with Stacy cut). However, the album to me and others is rather disappointing, as it is missing important parts of the score. Others have mentioned Bond's arrival at Zorin's estate, Stacey's arrvial, the Fanfare, and Bond dangling from the Zorin Airship. Personally, I was looking for the music from the State Office Building rooftop scene is my favorite cut from the movie, the main reason I bought the album, but that is also missing from the Soundtrack CD. I imagine if Capitol Records ever comes out with a more complete soundtrack album from this movie, there'd be a high demand for it from fans like myself, but don't hold your breath.

Great album...but it's missing a few pieces.......2005-09-29

A View to a Kill is a great score from the legendary John Barry, who has done pretty much all of the James Bond films up until 1989. I wish he'd come back and do the score to the next James Bond film. A few pieces of music are missing though from the movie, such as when Bond is attacked in Siberia and escapes but they never finish the music. Another piece missing is where Bond and Tibbett arrive at the Zorin's chateau in France. I think the most important piece that's missing is when Stacy gets taken by Zorin for a ride in the blimp and Bond hangs on to the rope going to the Golden Gate Bridge. The music that leads to the climax is always important! The best part of the album is that the music is very much James Bond and incorporates, at the time, a more modern theme to the music. Duran Duran's song is still awesome to this day and can still hold a candle to any crappy song out there today! Overall, a great job well done!

Great entry in the Bond scores...still mssing great tracks.......2003-05-13

While this score is one of Barry's greaat masterpieces, and is now even better remastered, it is still missing crucial tracks, like Bond's arrival at Zorin's estate, Stacey's arrvial, the Fanfare, and Bond dangling from the Zorin Airship. I hope in the near future, the albums will be released again with the missing tracks.

Wonderfully mastered, and one of Barry's Best Bond Scores.......2003-03-10

John Barry has written some of the most beautiful and memorable film music ever composed. He is most noted, however, for his work on the James Bond movies. Other composers have succeeded him, but none have duplicated the magic that he brings to the Bond films. Along with "On Her Majesty's Secret Service," this album is a seminal example of his work; it features some of the most exciting music written for the Bond films. The moment I heard the themes in the movie, I committed myself to finding the soundtrack on CD. I am disappointed that the score is not extended, but the included tracks do very well in representing the overall themes in the film. In addition, the remastered edition makes much better use of the surround channels. The Japanese import focused too much on the center channel. The new mix spreads the orchestra to the left and right, providing the effect of a much fuller sound. The sound is even detailed more. I took a chance and bought this soundtrack a second time in the hopes that the sound quality was improved. It is an understatement to say that I was not disappointed.

Superb Silly Sing Along CD.......2006-11-15

We've had this CD for some time now and still listen to it a lot. I have it on my ipod for listening to it while in the car. If you like Shel's books of poetry, you will definately like this audio collection! Silly, wacky, creative lyrics--everything you'd expect from Shel--all set to music. I wish there were a book of sketches to go along with the songs!

.... I agree with a previous reviewer- even adults can't help but sing. I love putting this on for the nieces & nephews because eventually everyone (whether they want to or not) starts singing. We especially like "Cuttlefish", "The Minnows" and "Poor Anna" (great puns! My sister-in-law Robyn will be jealous that Shel as "out-punned" her!) I'm sorta glad the kids don't understand all the undertones to these songs!

I don't think I've ever laughed so hard...you will find yourself singing these songs...I listen to it even when the kids aren't around...my new favorite for families with a new baby! This is great...I promise you, you won't be disappointed!!!

I love this CD almost as much as my children do - the songs are hilarious and the tunes are catchy. I would highly recommend Underwater Land.

music you won't get sick of.......2004-10-18

My son is 20 months, and he and I have been listening to this CD for many of those months. He loves the music, and he smiles when his favorites come on, and he doesn't even understand the lyrics yet. I enjoy it because the lyrics are cute and clever and fun. Many children's albums have songs that are annoying or the voices singing them are annoying and I can't stand to play them, but not this one. I grew up reading Shel Silverstein's books and I still have them for my son to enjoy and this CD is just as fun. This is music that your kids will enjoy for many years, first just enjoying the music and then they will enjoy singing along to the silly songs.

Very Underrated.......2006-07-05

Somehow this band has managed to get lumped with a lot of post Nine Inch Nails industrial-rock bands, but I don't think this band, at least on this album, is similar to bands like Stabbing Westward and Gravity Kills at all. This album in comparison to ones like Stabbing Westward's Wither, Blister, Burn & Peel is much more focused on the electronics, and I think that gives it more variety and a totally different sound.

If I had to compare it some other bands, I'd say that it sounds like a combination of The Crystal Method and Depeche Mode, and NIN is also obviously an influence, but this is far from a rip-off. There's also a lot of cool digital effects put on the guitars, particularly on Dress Rehearsal for Reproduction. The album's first two actual songs, Rearrange and From Your Mouth, are the definite highlights, but the album stays pretty strong all the way through. The song Happy is another standout track, and it begins with just the acoustic guitar, a drum machine, and Dave Reilly. My only complaints are that there's only 10 actual songs and the white noise after the last song is a bit annoying and pointless.

If you're having doubts about checking it out after reading bad reviews, just ignore it. I put off buying this album for years, because of the negative scores people gave it here on Amazon, and now I really love it. I think people like E. A. Solinas, who has had the spotlight review for a long time, are missing the point of this album. It may feel a bit mechanical at times, but that's the point. The title of the album is very appropriate, and I think that the duo tried to and succeeded in creating a view of a futuristic world. Is this album fun? Sometimes, but certainly not on every song, and they weren't even trying to make a fun album. Similar to the aforementioned Depeche Mode, this band is focused more on expression than making fun, dancable music. I also had no problems with the vocals.

If you're into bands like Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails than I'd definitely recommend this album to you. Don't believe the (bad) hype!

ahead of its time.......2005-08-03

That's what this is. This record is ahead of its time, for a band from the US that is. The rest of the word has already explored this area of music, most not as good as this record, but been there nonetheless. Without distraction from the review, let's just say that the music scene in the US has been stagnant ever since a little band by the name of Nirvana came by and showed us what music was all about.

Moving along - this album is a great listen. It's very honest - some of the lyrics really paint a detailed picture of losing yourself to drug addiction and loss. Medicated to the One I Love, for instance honestly states that heroin is very addictive but also very powerful. Alone Again is a rejection of being lonely. It's a very aggresive track, where the singer is simply lonely.

But the honest lyrics are one aspect of this record - the music is the other. The music is carefully crafted - almost polished in production. Some records can suffer from over-production, but it's in production that god lives underwater really shine. There are little tones and sounds that were put in during production that make the tracks. This isnt just a rock record - this is a new way to make music. God Lives Underwater are building on their influences. They are making a new sound.

It's appaling at how overlooked this album is. Some even give it a bad review just because it wasn't as 'heavy' as their previous album. I think that is just wrong. Give this album a listen. You will find an absolutely classic piece of music making. Fans of Depeche Mode, Pink Floyd, Nine Inch Nails and even some Radiohead will love this record.

Some stand out tracks, however all the tracks on this album are very good - but some are just downrite mind blowing are:

Rearrange - it's got this great beat and electronic sound - also a great atmospheric sound in the background.

From Your Mouth - so honest and so simple, but yet listen to this track - it' one of the best you will every here, simply beautiful melody.

Can't Come Down - lovers of Pink Floyd this is the track for you, really lush.

Medicated to the One I Love - this is my favorite track on this album, simply stunning, very Depeche Mode sounding - but this tracks hits all of your senses - it's like a feeling more than a piece of music. It has to be heard.

Thats the greatest thing about this album, it has to be heard - it was so dismissed when it came out, but give it a listen - you will find yourself loving every bit of it.

bad.......2004-02-08

these guys did a bad job on this cd. about 2 or 3 decent songs and the rest of it i cant even remember what they sound like. thats a bad thing because if you cant remember it.. then it means you didnt like it.. empty and the ep were very good in my view but they really let me down with this one. no live instruments it would seem. these guys made a 3rd album and i've heard a song off it and it sounds really good.. but some record issues prevented them from releasing it.. and seeing how that was 2001 i dont think they are ever coming back. so that means this cd means it was there last effort to the public.. which is a shame..

"Life in the So-Called Space Age".......2003-06-20

No, I haven't actually heard this cd (the rating is meaningless), nor am I a fan of God Lives Underwater, however I'd like to take this opportunity to educate you GLU fans. Upon reading the title, "Life in the So-Called Space Age," I immediately registered the connection to Depeche Mode's 1986 release "Black Celebration" in which that quote is printed on the back of the booklet. I found out that GLU does a cover of "Fly on the Windscreen" which is a Depeche Mode song from "Black Celebration." So it's no coincidence! I'm curious why they chose to reference Depeche Mode. Are they fans? Is this CD supposed to be a response to "Black Celebration?" They couldn't think of anything original? Interesting research for you hardcore GLU fans...

Lifeless "Life".......2003-05-29

God Lives Underwater's "Life in the So-Called Space Age" is a mixture of synthesized rock and techno. Unfortunately the result isn't half as much fun as it sounds like. Not even a quarter as much fun. "Space Age" ends up becoming rather lifeless and under-vocalized, the sort of thing that you won't really remember afterward.

After the "Intro" with its rumbling thunder, wind and percussion, we're launched into the staticky techno "Rearrange," the monotonous "Can't Come Down," thumping so-so "Behavior Modification," the surprisingly catchy "From Your Mouth," the uneven "Dress Rehearsal for Reproduction," and the outstanding "Vapors" which slowly builds itself up into a good rock song. "Medicated To The One I Love" would be an outstanding song if it were not over a half hour long.

One of the annoying aspects of this album is that the vocals and lyrics seem to be good -- but you can't hear them. The vocals are completely swamped under the music, making any effort to hear them frustrating. The music itself is just a little too pervasive, too flat and too plodding. It lacks the spark and life that good music has. It feels like an unfinished product, something still being mixed and experimented with.

The great song from the "flashback scene" in the movie, is track 23, My Little Box. Simply a must-have song. Dark and dry, the lyrics accompany the hollow and spooky beat. "I live safe inside my cell, in the darkness that surrounds me, I see my own special hell. Compliment my suffering, feeling warm inside this pain, four walls comin' down on me, are coming down again."

got it for one song and pleasently recieved much more!.......2004-06-03

hearing "it just wont do" on my local public radio caused me to go ahead and purchased this cd that week without knowing much else Deluxe played. upon hearing, the first song was great, very catchy, the next few are alright leading to track 5 the rest of the cd has some great vibes and sounds. the last song is a 10 minute journey into some hard driving beats that properly concludes any good tech cd.
