Feed, a four-piece band from Seattle, pays a lot of attention to the disc design and artwork just for a four-song self-released EP. Usually that is a signal to any educated listener that the actual content on the disc is substandard, but they're attention to detail in design shows through on Safer Than Driving with their music far outweighing any ideas that may be drawn from packaging alone. Feed's songs are fairly straightforward pop-rock as each track begins with a simple acoustic guitar strum showing the barebones of each tune before kicking in with Phil Ek's production and perfect mix of drums, bass, and background vocals. Lyrically the band leaves a little to be desired though "In The Pillow" stands alone from the rest of the disc. Two members of the band have been playing together on and off in varied incarnations for almost seven years, and it's a shame it took them that long to finally get their first official release under their belt. Like the Wright Brothers' first airplane, Feed's Safer Than Driving provides a glimpse of the future that is to come, and of the many great things it will possess.
