SUPERB.......2007-01-11
Ok, I have read the other reviews. It is true that the exclusion of Backdoor Love Affair is criminal. And it is also true the mixes, dance tracks at the end of disk 4 are ignorant. Come on it's ZZ Top, we don't want to hear some dance mix. We wanna boogie woogie Texas style.
Why someone called Heaven, Hell or Houston their worse song. NO WAY! Heaven, Hell or Houston and Manic Mechanic are both in the same vein and are 2 of my favorite tunes by the band. Of course the single best song ever has to be Waitin/Jesus Just Left.
All in all, I am very happy to have the proper remastering of these songs. The six pack was a complete joke. Now ZZ Top needs to release a live album that can stand the test of time. I believe they are capable of making a (Seger)Live Bullet or (Cheap Trick)Live at Budakon or (U.F.O.)Strangers In The Night.
Rock on my little ol' band from Tejas!
Intelligent song selection.......2006-08-26
Even though this package is a bit pricey, each CD is packed with over 75 minutes of music, and the accompanying booklet is well-written, interesting and a good addition to the set.
The song selections are right on the money. For Tres Hombres and Fandango, for instance, the best songs were chosen and the lemons were left off of this compilation. One could quibble about including more from the First Album, but then choices had to be made. In general, every song on this compilation is enjoyable. A 5 or 6 CD set could easily have been released but this is an excellent sampling.
A couple of the other reviewers gave incorrect information which I'd like to correct. The version of Legs is the exact same version, down to the second, as appeared on their album Eliminator--it was not cut-off during a guitar solo as one reviewer erroneously stated. Also, another reviewer said that this compilation uses the "disco mix" releases of the early albums. The reviewer is wrong. This set uses a remastering of the original album releases, not the bogus rerecorded versions.
Chewy Goodness.......2006-06-28
I must say that this collection demonstrates the most impressive improvement via remastering that I've yet experienced. It's almost like hearing these tunes for the first time.
If you like the Top, this is a worthwhile investment. I've nearly worn it out.
Love this Box Set !.......2006-06-17
Other more knowledgeable reviewers have covered some of the omissions and details regarding this box set---
All I know is that overall ( minus a few tracks covered by other reviewers ) this is some really fine music covering a 20 year period . Billy Gibbons while maybe not the fastest or most flashy guitarist around says a hell of a lot more with fewer notes than most with his awe inspiring tone and soulful playing.Get this set and enjoy !
ZZ TOP for those that only know the hits!.......2006-01-07
Great package that you can see the band was involved in. Too bad it doesnt include anything from their last 4 albums but this is all original Warner Bros. material so you know that your time and money will be well worth it. Interesting how this band can strike gold twice in the 70s and 80s and have yet to find their 'comeback' ala the Stones rediscovering themselves on the terrific Bigger Bang album.

Long before groups like Oasis and Blur provoked cross-Atlantic media hype, Catherine Wheel were evolving the Brit-Pop style that typifies the genre's distinction. With the release of Chrome in 1993, they advanced their whispered-wall-of-sound approach to rock amalgamation. Underneath the rust and steel exterior, Chrome exhibits the confidence and sonic rhapsody of its creators. Beyond such fortitudes, the vocal and lyrical arrangements are perhaps the truest accolades of the album with lyrical themes which accompany the listener to the heart of tranquilized and love-inflicted fantasies. The fuzzy solos and vibrato accord further complement the songs aided by crystalline guitar melodies. Jaded with growing pains, singer Rob Dickenson croons with perfect tenor appeal on tracks like "Kill Rhythm" and "Crank," highlighting the personal temperaments which shape the album. Turning experiences into 12-step chromatic conclusions, Catherine Wheel polish the metallic spirit in any latent rocker. --Lucas Hilbert
Customer Reviews:
Catherine Wheel: Chrome.......2007-03-31
This is an awesome CD and an awesome band. The 90's were definitely the decade where I became musically aware, and most of my favorite bands are from that decade, but somehow I never heard - or even heard of - Catherine Wheel until 2007. Man, I was missing out. If you want a preview before buying, just download the song "Crank" and listen to it a few times. It'll make you a believer.
If you have always wished that Radiohead would make a sequel to The Bends, then check out Catherine Wheel. And after going through Catherine Wheel's catalog, you might check out The Autumns for a current band that makes this (EXACT!) kind of music. Also, obviously, get The Bends if you don't have it yet. Enjoy.
Broken Head.......2006-10-15
I've purchased this album three times, lost it three times, and am about to purchase it again. It's that good. I've got 40 GB of music on my ipod and there's a gaping hole without Broken Head, The Nude, etc. Incredible. If you've come this far to read a review, you owe it to yourself and friends to pick this up.
This was my introduction..........2005-11-06
I was a music director at a college radio station when this came out, and along with a ton of other albums this one commanded my attention.
Shoegazers??? I am sure all the label slinging yahoos are still wiping the egg off their faces. Its as if the band heard they were pigeonholed and gave them all the big finger.
Just buy it...and all the rest.
Just a great guitar driven record.......2005-10-17
Perhaps AMAZON will link Coldplay, Blur, and Oasis search hits with this record and inspire a new generation to discover the source that those bands ripped off and do a poor imitation of. Buy this album and get the real thing, for this is a Catherine Wheel masterpiece.
The standout songs here are "Crank" and "The Nude," while "Ursa Major Space Station" also has its hypnothrob charm. This is a fantastic wall of fuzz guitar, and is the most innovative use of the fuzz box since Neil Young's "Rust Never Sleeps." But the whole album is truly the first, best, and original of the shoe gazer genre, and owning it and "Ferment" marks you as "us" versus "them" in the hierarchy of music aficionados.
(four and a half stars) Not quite "Ferment".......2005-09-19
Catherine Wheel's fine second album, "Chrome" contains all of the elements that made "Ferment" (CW's debut album) so spectacular. The merger of power chords and rhythms, with textured swirling guitars, are present here too, with a slightly harder sound. I like pretty much all the songs on the album, and would be hard pressed to name my favorite, or even my three favorites. Some criticize the finale "Show Me Mary" as being to popish (indeed, I could see the Monkeys playing it). But it makes me smile with its airy quality, almost similar to "Balloon," which concludes "Ferment." Right from the start, The first three songs, "Kill Rhythm," "I Confess," and "Crank," attack the senses with the unrelenting power of a locomotive.
These are my reasons for my title of this review ("Not quite 'Ferment'"), and why I gave it four and a half, instead of five stars: 1. It doesn't have that "knockout song" like "Ferment" had "Black Metallic"; 2. "Pain" and "Fripp" would have been better four-minute songs instead of the length they are. 3. "The Nude" and "Half Life" are just OK and somewhat out of place on this album; 4. I think that while the best songs on "Chrome" are terrific, they're not as terrific as, for example, "Shallow," or "Tumbledown," from "Ferment."
Perhaps it's unfair to compare all subsequent CW albums, including "Chrome," to the band's remarkable debut, but "Ferment," as their first album, is the natural measuring stick. However, it would be a mistake to read this as a negative review in any manner, since I love "Chrome," and believe it to be the band's second best by a fairly wide margin.

Beware.......2005-10-30
I bought this CD because Amazon advertised it, I thought, as a remastered version. But, I received the same version I've owned since 1997. It's a great CD--one of my favorites--but it's not new and improved. To add insult to injury, I used the Amazon website to learn how to send the CD back. The site asked me to choose from options that did not include a mistake on Amazon's part. They also wanted me to pay postage! I sent their customer service department an e-mail about all this; but, after almost a month, they have not responnded. Beware.
white boy.......2005-09-10
This album is typically grace slick and paul kanter with shades of "hijack the starship". Howevever, White Boy tells the timeless story that involves the haunting mythologies associated with the Avatars that allegedly taught mankind, cross culturally and over the eons, the "ways" of civilized livieng that were often corrupted by greed and self-serving ideologies. White Boy speaks to all of us in a haunting and mysterious way and reminds us that we are visitors on this little blue planet and our fate and future is still being determined! Grace Slick's semi-vocal echoes are memorable and gives the song an extra special quality that is timeless and priceless. However, this is probably not for everyone! If you connect, you will be richly rewarded by this disc.
Mystical space rock masterpiece !.......2005-06-14
True rating - an entire galaxy (Andromeda)
Some wonder what happened to the principle players of the original Jefferson Airplane. The answer is that they kept getting better. During the time of this album's release, it was period of the Jefferson Airplane -Jefferson Starship continuum when Jack and Jorma went off to form Hot Tuna while Grace Slick and Paul Kantner had a child and for a time made some of their best albums.
After Paul Kantner's successful solo project the 1970 science fiction rock epic "Blows Against the Empire" Kantner found himself in one of his most prolific writing periods. His writing style takes the form of the prophetic as he contemplates the meaning of the psychedelic experience -his conclusion is that man's destiny lies in the stars.
Baron von Tollbooth and the Chrome Nun (the pet names bestowed upon Slick and Kantner by their friend David Crosby) is a very mature well produced yet a daring album that continues the Kantner space theme. Sharing the bill with Kantner and Slick is old folkie friend David Freiberg. They are joined by a group that reads like a who's who of the San Francisco psychedelic scene: drummers John Barbata (formerly of CSN&Y) and Mickey Hart (loaned out from the Grateful Dead), Jorma Kaukonen, legendary bassist Jack Casady, Violinist Papa John Creech, the Pointer Sisters, David Crosby, Jack Traylor (a fellow psychedelic space rocker) and even Jerry Garcia himself. The entire album has a polished sound that has somewhat mystical theme layered on top of Kantner's visions of life in space.
1) The Ballad of the Chrome Nun (Freiberg/Slick)
The song is classic Slick in its irreverence but is also optimistic. Although she may be poking fun at traditional religion there is a spiritual nature to it. The song is well textured and Slick is in great voice.
2) Fat (Slick)
Backed up by the Pointer Sisters this song has unmistakable religious almost Gospel music sound to it. Her lyric "so we all went through the wall" suggests such things as telepathy and telekinesis. And the fat which she sings about seems to refer to excesses - most likely the excesses of the 60s. Yet in no way is this group giving up their values but paring them down in preparation for a new world they envision. The repetition of Slick belting out the word "someday" is moving and hopeful. It is obvious that they want the psychedelic parade to continue but with a new focus.
3) Flowers of the Night (Traylor)
The song is sung by Kantner and in the lyric of this song Traylor lists political, intellectual and spiritual revolutionaries as the song tells a story of change. The song contains some beautiful guitar work.
4) Walkin' (Kantner/Slick)
The music is bouncy with Creech on Violin in his characteristic style and Slick on the piano. The lyric is somewhat cryptic but seems to offer a justification for the chances taken in their psychedelic rock and roll life style as well as an invitation to the listener to live vicariously through their life, music and visions. Again like the rest of the songs on the album it is a very hopeful song.
5) Your Mind Has Left Your Body (Kantner)
This song seems to have to do with astroprojection and it was written in the days when Kantner Leary and others were attempting to experiment with the phenomena. The "White Bear" some say refers to Augustus Owsley Stanley and the part of the chorus "riders of the rainbow" may come from the book title "Warriors of the Rainbow"-a book about the mystical experiences of the American Indians. It is a beautiful visionary and haunting.
6) Across the Board (Slick)
A beautiful but campy song and in true Grace Slick fashion Grace does her best vocally to spice things up. The lyrics are more than a little suggestive but quite witty.
7) Harp Tree Lament (Freiberg/Hunter)
Co-written by Robert Hunter Jerry Garcia's song writing partner the title refers to the Bible verse in which the children of Israel are goaded to sing for their captors. It is a somewhat slow down beat song but beautiful.
8) White Boy (Transcaucasian Airmachine Blues) (Kantner)
In this song Kantner sums up his work and states his thesis which began with the album Blows Against the Empire and which he continues to this very day. It clearly proposes idea that civilization is progressive and our ultimate future is in outer space and further that we don't really belong here. It is a very thoughtful (and again hopeful) song. In 1973 when other rock artists were questioning the experience of the 60s and a feeling isolated Kantner gives a more hopeful view.
9) Fishman (Slick)
The lyrics at first blush sound pretty bizarre but it is actually a love song from Slick to Kantner. Slick's voice is powerful and she really belts out the lines.
10) Sketches of China (Kantner /Slick)
Sung by Kantner and Slick and accompanied by oriental sounding rock it tells a bizarre story in picture fragments. There seems to be some word play going on in the song between China the nation and China Kantner (Grace and Paul's daughter). It is ultimately a triumphant sounding song.
Baron von Tollbooth is one of the most beautiful and hopeful albums of the JA/JS opus. In it Kantner and Slick do their best to keep the spirit of the 60s going while focusing their eyes on the stars.
Highly recommended

Love Dreams by that master of funk Gary Wilson.....
Soul Traveling on volume two by Gary buzzes the breeze!!!!!!!!!
Nothing Like This.......2007-01-22
Descriptors of the tracks from these artists:
Oh No - a cool breeze with a phat beat; reminiscing
Guilty Simpson - tough; regarding the daily struggle
Madlib - groovy; scratchy mcscratch; can you say "layed back, but biting, battle rap?"
Koushik - tranceish; far more rhythmic than trance and I like it
J Dilla (RIP) - this song makes me feel that music is my life and J Dilla is the sensei on my path to enlightenment of music
James Pants - crazy and I like it; "clap your hands, stomp your feet"; catchy
MadVillain - as usual MadVillain is mysterious, poetic, Doomish, Libish (I just made those words up for this review)
Georgia Anne Muldrow - simply a joy; couldn't have been titled better
MED - no more reminiscing, we're in the here and now; what does it take to be a quality rapper, let's find out
Dudley Perkins - Dudley is the most unique vocal artist of our day; a little of all the classic singers r&b and soul and of course a dash of contemporary street knowledge and reverence
Percee P, Quasimoto - Lord Quas goes with anyone, but Percee compliments his vocal most; heart of the battle
Jaylib - i think this and the first Dilla track stand out as the most transcendent on the album; i hear the sirens and I love it
J-Rocc - who wants drama? not me; i feel like i'm on a car chase with this track; can't tell if i'm following or leading?
Roc "C" - i've always had a special place in my heart for perseverance songs; these are the steps and the trip ups that make life worth living
Gary Wilson - bicca-ch bicca-ch; 70's groove at it's finest; great song to ufck to ;)
Pure Essence - the mothership has not left the building; very cosmic; these tracks are titled well
Aloe Blacc - very African rhythms; what direction will we take next?
Baron Zen - Peanut Butter Wolf can take any genre and make it his own; droning lyrics; works with the track
Young Jazz Rebels - so glad to have these eclectic tracks on an [adult swim] album;that Stones Throw is linked to artists like this is amazing; soft and emotional drumming; seemingly a drum circle and flute
Overall Rating Through the Roof!

The Best Stones Throw Comp Yet........2007-01-06

get this while its still artound .. trust me..
It's a compilation--you gotta take the good with the bad.......2007-01-04
The last third of 'Chrome Children' leaves a bit to be desired, but c'mon. It's a compilation--you gotta take the good with the bad and search out the gems.
Far as I'm concerned, there are plenty of those here, from Oh No's frantic-elevator-music 'Oh Zone' to Madlib's woozy-nasal 'Take It Back,' where J. Dilla crafts a beat that could easily have been an outtake from the latest Quasimoto album. Koushik's 'None in Mind' has a nice Bollywood/Blaxploitation vibe, and James Pants' 'Do a Couple of Things' just goes the straight blaxploitation route.
Roc C puts down a few solid verses on the Oh No-produced 'Movin,' MED does the same over Madlib's 'All I Know,' and 'Monkey Suite' should have just about everyone salivating for the next Madvillain album.
I'm not sure what the last few songs are all about, though. I mean, they're alright, but I'm not sure why they're on this record. They don't really fit with the first 14 songs. But oh well. I'll take 'em.
The true appeal of this for me was the companion DVD, which features performances at a Stones Throw show in Texas from MED, Percee P, Madlib and MF Doom. Doom's performance of 'Rhymes Like Dimes' alone is worth the price of admission.
And, of course, Guilty Simpson's 'Clap Your Hands,' on the CD, has the best one-liner I've heard in a while: 'I don't care who y'all rollin' with/'Cause a real ***** don't need sponsorship.'

If you think Junior had a tendency toward being pretty weird when he was being normal, wait 'til you hear him being weird. With its overabundance of '60s blues-rock guitar gimmicks, his awkwardly Xeroxed Hendrix vocals on "Foxy Lady," the lounge schlock of "You Inspire Me," a pun-filled story song ("Two Rons Don't Make It Right") that's absurd even by his usual standards, and a rampant misogyny that grows tedious even if it's meant to be funny, this album has its share of lapses. But when the man just bears down and plays it right on his guit-steel, as he does on "Hill Country Hot Rod Man" and the Chicago-style "Monkey Wrench Blues," he wipes the slate clean again. Though perhaps a couple notches below his best work, this'll still satisfy Brown's established fans. --John Morthland

Jamieson Brown, Jr. back in action and back to the Country - Yee-Haw!.......2006-03-24
In recent past efforts, Brown on Long Way Home and
others tried his hand at Rock, Jazz, Dixie, and even
Blues. It turned out well, too. But aside from the
Hendix cover we've all been waiting for, Brown goes
back to the corn stalks and gives us what we've been
missing - REAL COUNTRY! Thanks, brudder! Mahalo and
Aloha, for now ('til next review)!
Oh My God.......2005-08-20
When it comes to Junior Brown, what can one say, except "Oh my God..."?
The Junior Brown Express.......2005-08-01
If you're already a fan of the awe-inspiring Junior Brown and his guit-steel ways, this album will not let you down. There are a lot of good cuts on this and it's on auto-pilot from start to finish in my "rig"!
P.S. Go see J.B. play live, it'll change your life!
Down Home Corn.......2005-05-10
I've been a Junior Brown fan since the earlier days. Not only is he a superb guitarist, he is a clever and gifted songwriter whose facility with words sometimes leads him to write some of the most maudlin and corny yet literate country songs around.
On Down Home Chrome, Brown shines once again with his guit-steel virtuosity, but succumbs to writing some of the corniest songs I've heard in a long time. Like bad puns, some of the lyrics can really make a fan cringe.
What's good? I like The Bridge Washed Out, the swinging Hill Country Hot Rod Man, the traditional Let's Go Back, the jazzy You Inspire Me, a competent cover of Hendrix' Foxy Lady, and the obligatory bout with the blues, Monkey Wrench Blues.
The corniest of the bunch are Little Rivi-Airhead, Jimmy Jones, Two Rons Don't Make A Right, and Are You Just Cuttin' Up?.
Junior Brown's voice fits his style well and he seems best when playing either traditional style country or the blues. However, on Down Home Chrome there is not much of either. But he does have an excellent band so the music alone keeps this CD from falling below three stars.
Hard-core Junior Brown fans will like this, but some casual fans may drift away in dismay if he continues along his cornball path. But I look at it this way. Corniness is part of his musical persona, there were hints of it from the beginning and its not going to suddenly disappear. So if the down home corn makes you cringe, try to ignore that and focus on what attracted you to Brown's music in the first place. The basic Brown formulas and style are still intact.
Rippin' 8-string steel.......2004-12-25
On his seventh solo album, Junior Brown augments his signature truck-driving, honky-tonk twang with cool lounge-lizard jazz guitar ("You Inspire Me"), soulful Albert King-style string bending ("Monkey Wrench Blues"), and even occasional horns. But the highlight is Brown's Guit-Steel -- a custom doubleneck hybrid of Tele and lap steel -- which lets him jump mid-song between 6-string chicken pickin' and whining 8-string tone-bar licks. His steel playing is remarkable: Whether comping Western swing chords, plucking cry-in-your-beer country fills, or whipping out stuttering double-stops, Brown nails his lines with righteous intonation and a fat, swooping tone. As always, he delivers his tongue-in-cheek lyrics in a resonant baritone, his Guit-Steel timbres are unfettered with digital processing, and his solos have a live, reckless edge.

Graced with one of 2001's most distinct voices, Adkins begins by sinking his leathery growl into the title number--a rap track, but one possessing enough wit to avoid falling into gimmickry. From there, the curve is upward. The hit "I'm Tryin'," a simple inspirational message wrapped in a complex arrangement, possesses strength and integrity too rarely seen in hit singles. Adkins's real-life blue-collar past imbues "Thankful Man" with a believability missing when such songs wind up in the hands of singers from middle-class college backgrounds. While keeping the otherwise mundane "Scream" and "Once a Fool Ago" above water, he rises above the norm with "I'm Goin' Back." This take on the timeless country-boy-hates-the-big-city scenario succeeds on every level, even if the word "discern" seems a bit out of place. The excruciating anguish of "Help Me Understand" and the self-explanatory "Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow" exemplify power ballads done right. The message? One can make a record that reconciles the normally disparate virtues of commerciality and honesty. --Rich Kienzle

EXCELLENT! BUY THIS CD!!.......2004-01-04
This is the cd that introduced me to the wonder of Trace Adkins. I'd never heard him until i heard the songs "Tryin'" and "Help Me Understand" on the country radio station. That song is a power ballad that just rips my heart out every time i hear it. There is such pure honesty and conviction in his voice when he sings this song. I don't know how anyone can't be moved by this song. "Tryin'" is another amazing power ballad that is an inspirational song about not giving up when life constantly throws obstacles at you. It's also very moving in the way Trace delivers it. The opening track "Chrome" is amazing! He starts the song with a sexy growl and sings about cars and his big black Mack truck. He talks about the truck in a very sexy way, and about a woman who loves trucks and cars. It is very much a novelty song for Trace, as it's probably the closest thing to "country-rap" from Trace that you'll hear, but Trace pulls off the song with confidence and it's a fun song. There is not ONE bad track on the cd. Every single track is amazing and great! The cd is loaded with hit singles, many that didn't get released but should have. What i love most about Trace Adkins is that his voice doesn't sound like any male out there in country at all. He's a one-of-a-kind original with his amazing rich baritone voice. This guy sings pure country from his heart and soul. This cd sold me on Trace Adkins and i bought many of his earlier cds too, and they are all great! This guy was inducted into the country music hall of fame and i'm really happy about that. You can tell from seeing him in interviews and listening to the way he sings that here is NOTHING phoney or fake about Trace Adkins! The guy is a good person and has a good heart, which shines in his music. His honesty and purity of voice makes his songs of love or loss or heartache that much more believeable. Trace, you have a fan for life. Can't wait to get your latest cd. I hear it's even better than Chrome. I find that hard to believe you can top this cd, but if you can, then WOW! Your Chrome cd is total perfection! I'd rate it higher if i could.
Not enough.......2003-08-25
I'm a great fan and loved the CD. I just have one complaint. Not enough of the great songs were made into singles and videos. Many didn't hear the best songs from this album. Chrome was not my favorite song on the album. The best song was the last song not the first.......Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow was by far the best and would have been a hit as a video or single.
Trace Adkins: another cliche?.......2003-06-19
The biggest challenge of male country music singers today is BEING UNIQUE. After hearing so many singles and buying so many albums, one singer seems to melt into the next, with nothing to differentiate them. So the question is: does Trace have what it takes to separate himself from the herd? This is not so easy to answer. His barritone voice, like Eddie Montgomery's from Montgomery Gentry, is sexy and unique- he should use it more! Every now and then a low note is hit but besides that, he stays in a normal range. As per the songs, the more I listen to the cd, the better they are. Yes, some songs in the middle of the cd seem to drag and melt into each other, but for the most part, Trace Adkins provides some unique material, such as "I'm Goin' Back"- I've never heard anything like it! So has he separated himself from the pack? He's on the right track, but he definitely has room for improvement.

Needs more tracks with both emcees together!.......2007-07-24
Two reasons why i did not give this a perfect rate: CD is very short. And because they (both Apathy and Celph Titled) do not rap together on most of the tracks. At times, felt more like a Celph Titled cd- which isn't bad cause I am a big fan. The reason why I almost gave this album 5 stars is the J-ZONE produced track "S.M.D." Jesus, he kills that track with sick samples. and then Celph Titled rips it apart. I wish this track was on the Celph Titled and J-Zone CD Hog Barbarians. Anyways, I like the effort but next time, have both emcees on all tracks.
Something Is Missing, But I Don't Know What... {3 ½ Stars}.......2007-07-08
I don't know what took me so long to check this album out, but I'm glad I did. Better late than never, right? Anyway, the first thing to jump out at me was how tight the production is. There are a few snoozer beats (maybe two, max) but the combination of beats and rhymes leaves little to be desired. Though I don't really feel Celph, he handles a lot of the tracks well. He turns in a good performance on "Bad Attitudes" which also features a good turn from One Two. There are plenty of good joints to be found, but nothing necessarily jumps out at me enough to warrant a mention. I'd say 5 or 6 out of 11 tracks are dope.
As far as flaws go, there really aren't many to list. Like I may have already mentioned, I've never been that big a fan of Celph Titled. He has some funny lines, but overall I wasn't all that interested in tracks like "Sound Of The Clap" or "Fix Your Face" (despite Apathy totally ripping the mic on the latter of the two). "S.M.D." struck me as mad corny on the parts of both rappers though and the production wasn't exactly an attention grabber either. The same could be said about "Donkey A**" because of how gimmicky it comes off due to its godawful hook and subpar verses. With all that being said, if you love Celph, chances are good that you'll love this album.
No Place Like Chrome is a good release from two of the most underrated cats out right now. Though I wouldn't recommend paying such a steep price for a mere 11 tracks, I would definitely recommend buying it if the price were reduced. If you have iTunes or some other form of digital music subscription, get it there as it will probably be cheaper. After picking up Eastern Philosophy last year, I told myself that I would purchase all things associated with Apathy. Though this release isn't as good, it's still solid. The production is mostly good, the rhymes get passing grades and this is sure to please the fans of the Demigodz/AOTP crew. Overall it would be a decent addition to the music library. I recommend newcomers buy this used though.
Standout Tracks: 88 Mindstate, Bad Attitudes feat. One Two, Naturally Nasty, and Drinks Specials feat. Tzarism, Phil Da Agony, & Rugged
Kind of expensive for a c.d. but..........2007-03-17
Apathy and Celph tear these tracks up, and all the guest appearances do their jobs well too. Basically, the Demigodz leading pair maintain their positions of power with this c.d. and stay in command of the underground. So long as you can get past the price of this import... cop it and enjoy.

A Stroke of Luck.......2002-12-01
I bought this only because I'm a Garbage completist, but this oral biography turned out to be quite good: written by Ben Graham, it's very informative and is especially insightful regarding song lyrics and musical influences. (Every song on all three albums is analyzed.) And the back cover has perhaps the loveliest photo of Shirley Manson ever taken. Recommended to all serious Garbage fans.

Masta Ace does it again.......2007-04-13
The best rapper you have never heard of, Masta Ace, puts out another classic cd. Sporting one of the most consistent careers of anyone to enter the rap game, it is hard to find a bad Ace cd, and although this is not his best effort, its a close contender. By far his most accessible work, its an enjoyable listen that will ultimatly leave you wondering why you have never heard of this stunningly talented mc before.
There are no really standout tracks here because unlike most cds, there is no filler, but some cuts do stand out. Born To Roll is an absolute necessity for anyone that loves ot pump the base in their care, but be careful because this one might blow out your system. INC Ride is a classic Ace posse cut as he talks about what he sees in his neighborhood.
In the midst of the East vs. West Bloody feud, Masta Ace managed to blend West Coast beats with East Coast flow to create the perfect album for its time. I Highly suggest you pick this one up, along with anything else by Masta Ace
Completely slept-on classic.......2006-12-29
This CD is great. In the midst of the whole East-West beefing, Masta Ace, Lord Digga, Paula-to-the-P and Leschea put out a bumpin' album that marries the smoothed-out slickness of West Coast production values with the rough edge of New York hip-hop, and the result is a perfect album for ridin' around on a Friday night.
Ace says it at the end of the intro: "Let's take this ride..."
From the silky bump of "The INC Ride" to the deep hit and mellow vibes of "Terror," there isn't a whole lot NOT to like about this album.
Fans of Ace's later work will complain that he doesn't have much to say in comparison to his later, more concept-oriented albums, but the h*ll with that. Redman never had ANYthing to say; doesn't mean he didn't say it WELL. He's still my favorite MC!
"People in My Hood" is an excellent slice-of-life about folks around the way, "4 Da Mind" flips a tricky beat into a nice song and I'll be honest, "Born to Roll" should be mandatory listening for anyone with subwoofers in their ride.
To me, this album has a wide appeal for hip-hop heads from coast to coast.
Don't sleep. Especially when it's this cheap used on Amazon!
Born To Roll'.......2006-01-23
Sittin on Chrome by Master Ace is a diamond in the rough. I loved it when it came out and I still love it now. The style is Brooklyn Bass with an LA sound to it. When its done right it is hot and incredible sounding. Sittin on Chrome my top choice for tracks but there are others..INC RIDE, People in my Hood and Born to Roll are the some of the strongest..The only thing that keeps it from a 5 star album is the other rapper on the album. I dont even know his name or care to..the beats are all knockin though even the intro..Classic Unknown Material right here..
Born To Roll' the best beat to jam for sure LOCC
Haters.......2005-11-28
Smooth Beats Good Production East Coast Feel If you dont like this and you love east coast underground somethings wrong I love this CD especially the song Terror(Oh My God)whats going on and Inc Rode both versions ya'll dont like this ya'll are trippin!
East Coast Lyrics, West Coast Bounce!.......2005-10-31
I only know to much about Masta Ace Incorperated, this guy has tight songs such as Slaughta House, though I only found this one as his best Album....best songs are The I.N.C. Ride, Eastbound (feat. Method Man, Redman & Grave Diggaz), Sittin' On Chrome (feat. B.G. Knocc Out, Eazy-E & MC Eiht), Terror, Da Answer & the Bomb-ass hit Born To Roll that has the all time greatest G-Funk Bounce! Other than The Notorious B.I.G., Masta Ace is the Greatest thing to come out of Crooklyn!
