5 out of 5 stars Awesome CD.......2007-03-22

The sound is really original and highly creative. I like the song "Change." I like the melody a lot. "Women in Chains" is another song with a beautiful sound. "Pale Shelter" is also another good song on this cd. It brings back the early to mid 80s where life was much simplier for a lot of people.

The music is distinct, they don't sound like any other band.

5 out of 5 stars Great music, but don't go see in Concert.......2007-03-16

Their music is great and I love the sound, but they are a studio group only. Their concerts are really poor. They don't play all of their hit songs, their live mix is slightly off, they don't bring a large enough supporting band and they don't relate well to the audience at all. The biggest issue I had with them in concert (Pacific Amphitheater, CA July 2006) was their song selections. They chose to play songs that they liked and not songs that the crowd wanted to hear. They left out some big hits songs to play some other songs that were really pretty bad. Which was a surprise to me as I love their music. I give them an "A" for their music and an "F" for their concert.

5 out of 5 stars The long and wining road!.......2007-02-28

If I had to pronounce myself by one the most original bands of the eighties "Tears for fears" should be included even in the list of the most exigent hard fans of those ages.

They knew to combine the accurate balance between expression and sentiment, keeping in mind the vast audiences. So his musical balance allowed them to maintain the required presence and personality to achieve a special place among the great bands.

A must- have for any serious collector.

5 out of 5 stars Great music !.......2007-02-08

This is one of my all time FAVORITE CDs. I heard it in a store recently and I started to search for it. Thanks. This is GREAT music. Will cherish it! Highly recommend it !

4 out of 5 stars take me back.......2007-01-10

This brought my collection up to date with all their singles and I enjoyed every one.

4 out of 5 stars Affordable Introduction.......2007-06-21

People seem to really dislike these 20th Century Masters "Best Of" collections, but they've been quite useful to me in that they have allowed me to (affordably) explore an artist's catalog beyond just the radio hits. I was familiar with the first four singles on this collection, but wanted to hear a bit more Tears for Fears material without committing to the full studio albums.

I think the record company nailed it perfectly with the Tears for Fears 20th Century Masters album. They picked the band's best known singles, added some deeper cuts, cleaned up the sound considerably, and presented them in a very affordable package. You get about an hour's worth (more than the typical 20th Century Masters disc) of material, including all of the band's radio hits, digitally remastered, all for about half the cost of the average CD.

The Best of Tears for Fears: the 20th Century Masters Millennium Collection is an ideal introduction to one of the 80's better pop acts. It provides a great overview of the band's catalog to the casual fan (like me). Even if you just want to get the band's biggest hits in one place, it's hard to beat this compilation in terms of price and sound quality.

3 out of 5 stars Seeds From Love.......2007-05-19

With The Past Few years, we've seen a lot of classic 80's groups returning to tour again. Although they've been for the better with fans like the recent returns of Genesis and The Police to the stage, where die hard fans have anxiously awaited for years, there also have been for the worse, when Culture Club announced they'd reunite, many of them felt angered that they weren't going to have Boy George with them on the road. That has also been said with Tears For Fears too. Although the pair of Curt Smith and Richard Orzabal did return, many people just weren't all that interested in them, just as the case with this hits album.

The 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best Of Tears For Fears is a single disc budget retrospective of the 80's duo and what they brought out to so many listeners. The collection is one of the more improved albums in the music series from Universal. The songs have all been restored nicely in reflecting the highs and lows from Curt & Richard. the collection includes a lot of classic tracks, mainly reflecting on their U.S. breakthrough from Songs From The Big Chair and The Seeds Of Love. The collection includes great guilty pleasure hits including Everybody Wants To Rule The World, the haunting #1 smash Shout, the soulful and driven Sewing The Seeds Of Love. The collection also includes lesser-known songs like Advice From The Young At Heart and Break It Down Again. Sadly though, with other hits collections from Tears For Fears out, including the recent 2006 Gold double-album that have much more to offer, many fans might want a bit more.

All in all, Tears For Fears 20th Century Masters isn't bad collection and a decent re-introduction for those who've missed out on them over the years, but it isn't actually the best hits collection from them. I'd recommend that you purchase the 2001 Best Of Tears For Fears collection instead. With this record missing songs like Woman In Chains and Closest Thing To Heaven, this record doesn't feel like it wants to rule the world.

5 out of 5 stars great cd!.......2006-11-04

if you're a Tears for Fears fan, then this is a great "best of" CD to buy!

3 out of 5 stars Not Very Good.......2005-11-21

As a die-hard fan of this band, I would say that this is not a very good collection of their songs to start with, first off, this has the song "Phaorahs", which has it's own bussiness being on another CD and not really being on a "Best Of" CD. This CD also leaves out a few of TFF's early hits-Pale Shelter and Mad World. The way that this collection is thrown together says that it's best to buy their 1992 hits collection.

5 out of 5 stars TEARS FOR FEARS.......2005-10-02

I don't have a whole lot to say except, I enjoyed the music. Basicly I liked the group and it reminded me of my College days and I decided I wanted to purchase it. Also the CD arrived in very good condition and I was impressed with the quality.

3 out of 5 stars Indeed for fans only/ Version of song corrections.......2004-11-20

I think everyone so far has summed up this buy well when saying it is for fans only. The purpose of my review will to go a little more in depth as to what these tracks actually are. Many of the parenthetical mix names at the end are misleading, and so, in order to see if you already have these versions, I will make it clear as to what the tracks really are.

1. Shout (Beatchuggers Remix) - yes, this is a new mix that is sped up. It is to my knowledge not present on any other cd.

2. Change (New Version) - This unlike what many believe is not the Single version of Change. It is really not any of the other previously released versions of Change but a new remix. Most versions of change have some 4 bars cut out of them somewhere but this one is complete without cuts. That being said like the other review said, it is basically Change. In fact it is almost identical to the Change of of The Hurting, so I am not really sure why it was put on here. It should definately not be confused with the Change (New Version) off one of the old singles because that song is a completely different remix of Change or the (Single Version) off the same single.

3. Woman In Chains (Mix 42) - Unlike what the last reviewer said I can find no structural difference between this song and the Woman In Chains off of The Seeds of Love. In fact it is one second shorter than that version. To my best guess, the only difference is that this version may have a different timbre for some of the parts, more lush, but I am not really sure about that. If anyone can find any structual differences in the song I would like to know ie parts that have been changed, added, ommitted or anything else.

4. Sowing The Seeds Of Love (Wen's Overnight Mix) - This is a new version of the song. It is longer than the album version by 29 seconds and is basically the length of the (Full version) off the 12" single. It is basically the (Full Version). The slight difference, besides the timbre, that can be found between the two is if you listen to the "Feel the pain" part of the song, you will hear an added echo, which is remeniscent to how the song is being performed live on tour right now by them. This echo is in no other version of the song. I personally don't like the echo but whatever.

5. Pale Shelter (New Extended Version/ 12"Mix?QC) - This is the Pale Shelter (Long Version) which can be found as one of the bonus tracks of the Hurting Remastered released a few years ago. It is longer than the (New Extended Mix) off of the original single as it ends on the drum flourish rather than fading out and is basically around 20 seconds longer than that one. This is though identical the the (Long Version) on the Hurting Remastered unless anyone else has found a difference.

6. Head Over Heels (Dave Bascombe's 7"N.Mix) - I am not positive about this but I do believe that this is the Head Over Heels Remix off of the singles like everyone else says. This means that it is Head over Heels exactly with a slightly different timbre.

7. I Believe (A Soulful Re-Recording) - This track is correctly labled and is the rerecording of I Believe issued on the Single. It is different than the album version.

8. Tears Roll Down (U.S. Dance Mix) - This song is just Tears Roll Down, the b-side off of the Sowing the Seeds of love single that was later made into a single song Laid So Low by Roland to Promote the Greatest Hits album created right when Roland and Curt split. I cannot find any difference between this song and the song on both Saturnine Marshial and Lunatic or the Seeds of Love Remastered Cd so why they put (U.S. Dance Mix) beside it is a mystery. Probably to sell more cds.

9. Everybody Wants To Rule The World (Urban Mix) - This is probably just the (Urban Mix) that was released on the single version when it came out. It it is any different, it is longer. If it is long though, it is longer because of an addition of 4 or 8 more measures at the end of the annoying repetitive drum beat that has already been repeated needless for one minute before. Thus if you have the orginal urban mix in pretty good quality, then this song is not worth fretting over.

10. Mad World (World Remix) - This is a correctly labled track. This version was off of the original singles and can also be found on the Hurting Remastered cd.

11. Mothers Talk (Beat The Drum Mix) - This is the Mothers Talk (Beat of the Drum Mix) that was released on a single when Mothers Talk came out. Why they omitted the "of" we will never know.

12. Johnny Panic And The Bible of Dreams (Unstable Mix) - This is the same version as the Fluke Remix off of Saturnine Marshial and Lunatic and (Mix One) off the Johnny Panic single released. The (Unstable Mix) is tacked on I guess to make it clear it is different than the original Johnny Panic Mix off of the Advice for the Young at Heart single, but it is not a new version as I had hoped.

This version analysis was performed by me with the help of the websites, Memories fade and the fantastic Tears for fears page.

All and all this Cd is a big dissappointment and really a rip off. Hardly any of these are different from versions found on other cds and it boggles the mind why they changed around the names of them. Only 4, maybe five of these are new remixes and of these only 3 are really discernably different from a structural standpoint, the Shout, Change, and Sowing the Seeds of Love remixes. And as you read only the Beatchuggers of these three is really interesting. Check to see how many of the songs they randomly renamed you already have before you consider to buy this album. On the other hand the sound quality of the Cd is good and some of these tracks, although on other cds, are rare to find. In conclusion, again, only get this if you are a TFF fan and only if you are collecting all of their music. That is unless you want to spend so much money on around 5 discernably new remixes and a bunch of stuff you already have.

5 out of 5 stars Hard to find Remixes cds by Tears for Fears.......2004-10-14

This is great cd, including remixes and extended versions that you couldn't find on other cds.
If anyone who is ineterested in buying this cd at a lower price, pls contact me at Lenmarc68@yahoo.com
I have the cd, and I would like to sell it.

3 out of 5 stars for serious fans indeed..........2004-03-04

i kinda notice that there was only one very encouraging review for this cd, that of antonio cruz. laurent of australia may have a point here. it is indeed quite expensive and too close for comfort from the original album/remix version.

but then again, as cruz have said, money is no object for the serious fans of tears for fears. i should know, i went all the way to atlanta, georgia to join a bidding for a very rare 4cd demos and remix compilations of the group. it cost me a fortune but i diddn't mind at all. after all, i am not just buying a group's effort. i am also buying a part of history i grew up with.

my $50 suggestion is, if you have the moolah, go splurge on this one. if you don't, wait 10 more years when they start playing these tracks in a vintage show dedicated for 80's pop greats. your choice...

4 out of 5 stars FINALLY, THE LONG WAIT IS OVER!.......2002-11-07

the album i have been waiting for the past seventeen (17) years. i have been a tff fanatic since the release of their second album, "songs from the big chair." being a teenager during those years, my life revolved around music, and collecting vinyl records. tff was my favorite british band of all time.

having spent so much money on vinyl (i have MOST of tff's 12" singles), it was a difficult transition to compact disc. no, money is never a question - the availability of their materials is! i recently bought their three remastered albums from mercury records. much as it included the remixes i have and don't have, two of my favorite remixes (everybody wants to rule the world (urban mix) and mothers talk (beat of the drum mix)were absent. however, i must praise the digital remastering made on the three discs! the sound was superb.

for this japanese compilation, i could finally rest. they are here, although the price was quite expensive and the sound quality not that outstanding. but being a true fan before and until now, price will always be out of the question.

in order to truly appreciate this compilation, just think of the time you waited for this release, and how rare the tracks are. only for the true fans of tears for fears.

"put your head right next to my heart,
the beat of the drum is the fear of the dark."

i hope many fans also share my point of view. the rarity of this product would already compensate for its high price.

3 out of 5 stars Proceed with caution..........2002-10-09

This release seems a bit of a desperate attempt at a compilation that the artist didn't have enough material for. I love TFF, but this CD, apart from a few select tracks, leaves you with tracks that are called "remixes" but are nearly indistinguishable from the album and single versions of the songs. The first track, however, is a great recent dancefloor filler reworking of the classic "Shout". This is an "OK" compilation, but buyers should beware though, this compilation isn't exactly what the title leads you to expect. If you are a TFF collector and/or completist you'll probably want this CD, otherwise, get the greatest hits compilation instead.
