Partyline

About the Artist
Ann Loureiro isn't quite sure where she picked up the unshakable need to make music. Like her hazel eyes and barely able to sit still for five minutes demeanor, it's just something that's always been a part of her. "I've always wanted to play music," says Loureiro, a singer and guitarist. "I love writing and recording music. It's my personal therapy." Loureiro's debut CD, called Partyline, is a 13-track disc produced by Mitch Easter, an accomplished producer who has worked with several well-known artist, including REM, Suzanne Vega, Wilco and his own band, Let's Active. Producer and musician/songwriter Randell Kirsch (Show of Hands, Papa Do Run Run) lends his production skill to three of the CD's tracks, with Mitch Easter remixing. Loureiro is influenced by various artists: REM, Tom Petty, Chrissie Hynde, Dave Matthews, P.J. Harvey, Laura Nyro, The Beatles and The Monkees, to mane a few. It's hard for Loureiro to categorize her music. "I think that's pretty typical of singer/songwriter types" she says laughting. I think since I listen to all the bands we just talked about (PJ Harvey, Tom Petty, etc.) that each have influenced my sound. The music is a little alternative, a little rock, a little pop, a little country -- I' not sure what percentage of each. It's my own personal hybrid." Ann is clear on what the songs are about, though. "They are all very personal songs, says Ann. Some are from a first-person point of view. Some are from a third-person point of view. And not all the songs are about me. But each song was written during a time when I felt the emotion expressed in the song very deeply, whether I was feeling it for myself or for someone else." Ann was recently nominated for a MAMA (Modesto Area Music Award) for her debut CD, Partyline.

Album Description
Powerful pop folk-rock. See into Ann's soul with her honest, intense lyrics. Debut CD. Brilliant production by Mitch Easter (REM, Let's Active) and Randell Kirsch (Show of Hands, Papa Do Run Run)

The CD Partyline is a 13-song collection that encompasses various styles. Ann herself is influenced by Tom Petty-style rock, Dave Matthews-style jazz, Laura Nyro-style songwriting, and the vocal stylings of a cross between Trisha Yearwood and Madonna in her "Austin Powers" period. The songs on the record show this variety of musical styles, but are tied together by the fact that the songs are all deeply emotional and heartfelt, and converse about the inner workings of relationships and the state of the world today. The songs themselves have a very thoughtful, inward tone and tend to look towards a positive end. With all the passion and heartfelt angst that interjects the CD, Ann still gives us a silver lining.

      5 out of 5 stars A must-hear for the smart pop lover.......2002-01-26

This CD is a powerhouse combination of fine songwriting, gorgeous vocals and crack production (courtesy of Mitch Easter - he did REM's early records, remember?). The multilayered, guitar-heavy instrumentals are the perfect setting for Ann's subtle lyrics and rich voice. Ann tells haunting stories in some of the tracks, but if you just crave a strong hit of pop at its best, Ann gives you that, too; "Rivers of Love" ought to be one of those rare radio hits you can't get away from, but can't get enough of either. Buy this disc.
