About the Artist
An award-winning drummer since early childhood, Micah used demo tapes of his jazz drumming to win admission to Colgate University, where he spent his time earning a Philosophy & Religion degree, performing with campus bands, and hosting a popular alternative music show for the school's radio station. In his final year of college, a leg-injury sidelined Micah's music career. He retreated to his books and, after graduating, moved to Los Angeles to attend law school at the University of Southern California. Fueled by insomnia during his first semester of school, Micah began teaching himself guitar and songwriting. By his third year, Micah had become a regular on the Hollywood open-mike scene. By graduation, he was packing local clubs with solo shows. Returning to New York in 1997, Micah dove head first into a successful career as a film executive. (A founding member of Cinetic Media, he has since helped champion and secure distribution for numerous independent films including "American Movie," "Supertroopers," "Kissing Jessica Stein," and the forthcoming releases "Amandla!"and "Tadpole.") At the same time, Micah began performing a series of shows around New York City, culminating in a packed performance at the CMJ New Music Festival. The success of that show led to ongoing high profile gigs at select city venues as well as an introduction to Atlantic recording artist Duncan Sheik. Impressed with Micah's original voice and intelligent songwriting, Duncan signed on to privately record an album that would reflect his organic yet ethereal sound. Working over six months at Duncan's Warm Pod recording studio, Micah and Duncan each played several instruments to create a rich acoustic palette. The result is an unforgettable collection of songs and sounds that are at once strikingly fresh, atmospheric and accessible. Micah has since been a featured artist at the Sundance Film Festival, The Santa Fe Film Festival, and New York's CMJ Music Festival. He has played capacity shows at many of New York's most prestigious clubs for new artists including the Mercury Lounge, CBGB, The Cutting Room, Makor, The Living Room, Arlene Grocery and Maxwell's. Earlier this year Micah was the featured musical guest on a test show of Carson Daly's "Last Call" for NBC. He has also been the featured artist on Chris Douridas' popular KCRW radio program New Ground. Tracks from Micah's self-titled record can frequently be heard on KCRW, as well as several online music stations. Five of the eleven songs on the record have been licensed to network television programs including "Smallville," "Felicity," "Providence" and "Dawson's Creek"." "Family Circus," the record's third track, was released earlier this year on "In Our Lifetime," a compilation from Mark Kates' new Fenway Recordings.
