Love, Hate & Dignity [Explicit Lyrics]
Editorial Reviews
About the Artist
Her Love Filled the Room represents the current musical activity of Frances, formerly of Aurora Paralysis. A personal project which grew into a band, Aurora Paralysis - like Louisville's Slint - helped define the sound that is nowadays described as "Slowcore." Her Love Filled the Room marks Frances' return to music after an eight year absence: in addition to the familiar guitar and piano base, she lends her distinctive style to banjo, accordion and assorted strings. The full-length CD Love, Hate & Dignity is now available, and a CD single will be released later this year, to be followed by innovative re-workings of old Aurora songs (Visiting Aurora), an all instrumental LPCD of more new material (The Three Spirits), and a tribute to the genius of Hank Williams and Patsy Cline (Calamity Frances). A tour of the Deep South is set for Winter and she'll be visiting across the US and Canada next Spring. Raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, Frances grew up listening to Virginia Astley, Harry Chapin and Julian Cope. Although formally trained in piano, most of the Aurora songs were composed on guitar in Richmond. The band was part of the early 90's Richmond scene that also produced Eggs and Labradford (oddly, members of all three came together on Scaley Andrew's cover of "Girl From Ipanema" with Frances as Astrud Gilberto). Following a series of successful seven inches, the band received interest from Downey Mildew's label in California. Other commitments intervened, however, and Aurora Paralysis disbanded in 1993. Other projects with which she was associated fall under the Eerie Materials umbrella: Eeyore Power Tool and Everything Eats a Squirrel. From proto-Slowcore to Post-Punk, Frances returns, combining the intimacy of her first recordings with renewed confidence, a broadened musical palette and surprising production instincts. Not so "pop" as Game Theory, nor s! o baroque as Rachel's, Her Love Filled the Room fills a musical niche you may have never known existed.

Stick we the older cd released of this.......2007-05-09
I heard a couple of these songs before i have a tape of his best of and that version of Famous Blue Raincoat is different and better. This new version has Cohen's voice up front and center which is not his strong suit. You cant hear the melody of the song that much anymore. I notice this on Last Years Man as well. The other songs on here are good accept that diamond song which is quite bad and really shows why he does not have much of a voice. I have the old cd version of songs of and the sound quality is not that good i have to turn up the volume so that is why i waited to get the restored version of this cd. I should have just gotten the old version of this instead. I would probably like it more with repeat listens it takes a couple of listens to get what his lyric mean.
I listen to this cd again it is a good one i will give it 4 stars now. Every song is good accept Diamonds on your mind that still sucks. My fav is Joan of Ark. There are two songs on here that mention her why didn't he put her on the cover.

Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.
TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23
THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.
Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14
This Collection was perfectly made it has almost all the most famous Broadway songs on this 5 cd set. The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway
Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17
If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

Opening at the tail end of 1948, Kiss Me, Kate became an instant classic--and amazingly didn't receive a full-scale revival until 1999. All the more reason to revel in its original version. With its cunning play-within-a-play premise (a musical update of The Taming of the Shrew reverberates in backstage feuds), brilliant mix of high and low comedy, and of course some of Cole Porter's better-known songs--"So in Love," "I Hate Men," Too Darn Hot," "Always True to You (In My Fashion)"--Kiss Me, Kate remains a funny, zesty hall of mirrors. Hard as you may try to find a fly in the ointment, there's no fault with the cast either--Patricia Morison, for instance, is a perfectly petulant Lilli Vanessi. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Customer Reviews:
The best and maybe the last CD of this great musical........2006-02-20
Now is the perfect time to buy the CD of this.
Sony's transfer engineers used state-of-the-art restoration software to remove the roughness and surface noise from the originals, but (thankfully) they resisted the urge to tart-up the sound with artificial reverb, faux stereo, and thundering bass. This is by far the best-sounding CD of this ever released, and it may be the last.
The age of music ownership in America could be drawing to a close. Five years from now, this music may only be available by download, you might only be "borrowing" it, and it probably won't come with the the authentic cover art or the 26-page booklet.
(See also the original broadway CD of Out of This World.)
Beautiful remastering of historic original cast recording.......2004-05-24
Recorded in January 1949, this album of KISS ME KATE has remained in print adn a steady best-seller for over 50 years now.
The sound on this newly remastered CD is crisp and clear and easily surpasses all previous issues. Sony even uses the original artwork from the very first LP release.
The performances remain as fresh as ever. Alfred Drake was Broadway's top leading man and sounds just glorious. Pat Morrison had less of a career but sounds just perfect as Lilli. Lisa Kirk is wonderful as Lois, and Harold Lang makes the most of his few moments on the record as her boyfriend, Bill. In an unusual move these peopel reunited 10 years later to re-record the score for Capitol in true stereo. They still sound great on that recording (on CD as part of the Broadway Angel series) but the performances are fresher on this recording made just 2 weeks after KIS ME KATE had opened on Broadway to rave reviews.
The CD booklet has good info about the show, though curiously, no synopsis. There are, however, a half dozen pictures of the original production. This edition featureds longer takes of "We Open in Venice", "I Hate Men" and "Too Darn Hot" though the total extra music adds but a minute to the album's running time. A bonus track of the Overture dates from a 1958 stereo recording by Lehman Engle.
KISS ME KATE was the first Tony Award winner for Best Musical (1949). The 1999 revival won a Tony for Best Revival.
the peerless original cast.......2004-03-04
KISS ME KATE is still regarded as Cole Porter's greatest musical; a charming backstage story detailing feuding ex-spouses Lilli Vanessi and Fred Graham as they star in a musical version of Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew".
Very rarely has the score been bettered than the original 1949 cast album, reissued here on the Columbia Broadway Masterworks label. Patricia Morison plays Lilli, with Alfred Drake (OKLAHOMA!, KISMET, GIGI) as Fred, the feuding, ego-ridden leads. Lisa Kirk (ALLEGRO, MACK AND MABEL) is the sexy young starlet Lois, with Harold Lang (PAL JOEY) as her caddish boyfriend Bill.
KISS ME KATE opened at the New Century Theatre on Broadway in 1949, making history in its run of over 1000 performances. Patricia Morison is perfectly-suited to the role of Lilli. She offers a glowing rendition of "So in Love", whilst her duet with Alfred Drake in the tongue-in-cheek "Wunderbar" is sublime. Lisa Kirk gets three of the big showstoppers ("Why Can't You Behave?", "Tom Dick or Harry" and "Always True to You in My Fashion"), and nails each and every one. Harold Lang was a better dancer than he ever was as a singer, but is quite good on this disc.
A must-own.
Who Put The Shake In Shakespeare?.......2001-04-11
Who put the 'shake' in 'Shakespeare'? Cole Porter, of course! Kiss Me Kate is the best of his musicals, and this recording is the best of the recordings! The original Broadway cast performs with much old-style, vaudeville jazz!
The story is set in a Baltimore theatre where a divorced couple, Fred Graham and Lilli Vannessi, are in the two leading roles of a musical version of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew. Fred currently dates a colorful light-heart named Lois Lane, while Lilli is about to head off to get maried in the south. Lois, by the way, will 'always be true' to her boyfriend, the gambling player Bill Calhoun. The story takes off from there!
The show originaly opened on Broadway in 1948. It's timelessness has still not worn off after so many years. The classic script by Bela and Sam Spewack, and the best music of Cole Porter, we cannot fail! The show has been performed since then in many many countries, and has been performed in many languages! It has only recently been revived on Broadway.
Kiss Me Kate has become a staple of classic Broadway, and this is the cast that will not be outdone. Patricia Morrison is a perfect, operatic, Lilli Vanesi. She is strong, yet thoughtful. Her voice fills the CD with a lively 'Wunderbar' and the raging 'I Hate Men.' Alfred Drake is a manly and appealing Fred Graham who will have you laughing out loud! His 'Where Is the Live...?' is yet to be surpassed. Harold Lang is a sexy, and hypnotic Bill Calhoun. He takes the role for himself, and his 'Bianca' is done to the point of perfection! His voice is misty and self-confident, and has the qualities all Bill Calhoun's should. And of course, there will be no one as good as Lisa Kirk for the role of Lois Lane! Her tongue-in-cheek performance on this CD is flawless! She is teasing, sympathetic, funny, and has the right voice to win her part! I can't imagine anyone who can do what she has done with 'Alway True to You' and 'Why Can't You Behave.' The classic character songs are very nice! The balladic, and melodic 'So In Love' will ring in your head. 'We Open In Venice' will make you dance! And 'Brush Up Your Shakespeare'(performed with much humor by Jack Diamond and Harry Clark) will give you a laugh the next time you read 'Romeo.' You won't be disapointed!
The nostalgic quality of the 40's is alive and well in this recording. Columbia has done a great job restoring the work, and the scratching that were a part of the original releases. The sound quality is crisp and clear, and the music sounds wonderful! The magic hasn't worn out yet!
There have been a few more recordings of the work, including a complete London recording, and the new Broadway revival cast. None can do as well as the original recording, however. In the revival recordng, however, they come close. Brian Stokes Mitchell has the voice for Fred, but runs through his lines a bit fast, and without much enthusiasm. And the orchestrations for the new recording are a bit overdone, and they sound more like PBS's Jazz, than Broadway.
Altogether, this is great recording. I was very pleased with my buy, and hope that you will add it to your collection right away! It's time to Brush Up Your Shakespeare!
TIMELESS BROADWAY SHOW.......2001-01-11
COLE PORTER'S most famous musical play hasn't lost none of it's power over the years;it's one of those few shows in which all the elements clicks:cast, songs, libretto, to make a great entertainment product.Without getting to cynical,KISS ME KATE has enough good songs to fill 3 BROADWAY shows of today ,and i am not kidding,it's a fact. While the revival is also of interest,it's always a delight to hear the original with PATRICIA MORRISSON and ALFRED DRAKE, both terrific in their parts.I can assure you that you'll play this record more than twice. It's not only WUNDERBAR ,it's WONDERFUL!You can't actually single out one number because they are all good. All right, if we have to choose one, it's SO IN LOVE.

Customer Reviews:
Remember great soundtracks?.......2006-08-06
Seems like for the better part of the 1990s soundtracks were "the" in thing in music.
This was another one.
If you like any of the following in a great soundtrack, cop this one:
1) Music put on the LP that you actually recognize from the original motion picture.
2) A hot mix of contemporary, popular artists consistent with the time of the movie's release.
3) A nice number of contributions from budding, unhyped new artists that actually help make the soundtrack complete.
4) An overall musical selection that fits the tone of the movie.
Thin Line was a classic movie released my freshman year of college (1996) and every time I listen to this soundtrack it takes me back to that time.
That's a signature of great music, period.
Songs to check for on this soundtrack:
--Tevin Campbell's cover of Stevie Wonder's timeless love jam "Knocks Me Off My Feet"
--H-Town's soulful remake of the title track
--"Damned If I Do (Damned if I Don't)" by Something for the People
--"Just Beware of My Crew" by LBC which captures that '90s West Coast sound
--R. Kelly's "Freak Tonight"
And of course D'Angelo's masterpiece "Brown Sugar" (you already know!)
Smooth Listening.......2006-01-17
I had to step and put my 5 in here, after seeing overall the Soundtrack received 3 stars. This is an EXECELLENT soundtrack with a variety of different types of songs. It has R&b, Hip hop, rap, smooth soul... I mean it's very well produced. My fav song is Tevin Campbells' "Knocks Me Off My Feat" (a beautifully intimate song about love and the imagination of love) and "Lets Stay Together" by Eric Benet' but the entire cd is great and I don't see how it could hve been any better. This is most definitely a classic! It still in heavy rotation with me.
Love It Or Hate It.......2005-05-24
This soundrack from 1996 has some to love and some to hate. L.B.C. Crew started the soundtrack off well with the Zapp sample "Beware Of My Crew". Somethin' For The People came with a smooth track on relationships featuring Adina Howard to add to the effects of it. "Freak Tonight", a mid-tempo, bounce by R. Kelly was slept on as it may very well be the reason to purchase A Thin Line Between Love & Hate. The laid back gangsta groove by Soopafly tells us with a more lyrical, gangster twist of hardness. Ganjah K's "Love Got My Mind Trippin'" is okay at best, but nice to listen to. The best rap song on here is by the underdog Dru Down as he shows us he's a "Playa Fo Real". Roger Troutman brought another classic with the slow, seductive and nasty "Chocolate City". Eric Benet and Sandra St. Victor both delivered love tunes to make it altogether worthy. Don't be dissappointed you don't have to buy this new! But there's something on here you need to add to your collection.
Nice album.......2004-09-23
Honestly I only like maybe 5 tracks on this album. The opening song is tight, there is a lil variation between it and the version in the film. Come Over by Sandra St. Victor is hands down the best song on the album. My favorites: 1, 2, 4, 9, 10, 11, 13-15. Tevin Campbell's song is alright.
Okay, so maybe I like more than 5 tracks! I only got the album for the first song, but it really surprised me and I'm glad to add it to my collection.
it's ok at best.......2003-10-06
the only reason why I was interested in this soundtrack was because of R.Kelly's "Freak Tonight" that Sampled Mtume's "Juicy Fruit".it works pretty good for the track.but for the most part this SOundtrack is pretty forgettable just like the film.

Customer Reviews:
The Rain Falls Down on Last Year's Man.......2007-02-21
The first song sets the tone for the album. Avalanche is just what it sounds like... a man's life caving in on top of him sung with bitterness, bile and sarcasm, his trademark guitar propelling the ballad forward, stark and primal. And it only gets better from there. Cohen's voice is raw and powerful on every track, often framed by the celestial chorus of women's voices that offer a sharp contract to his. Well know songs on the CD include Famous Blue Raincoat and Joan of Arc. But the lesser known songs are gems in their own right. Especially gloomy are the self-mocking Last Year's Man and suicidal fantasy Dress Rehearsal Rag, both with brilliant lyrics.
Deservedly the CD continues to grow in stature over the years. This music is sure to be a party killer, but perfect to listen to when you're alone, depressed, angry, smoldering with love and hate.... an anthem to the dark genius of Cohen.
One of Cohen's best, IMHO.......2007-02-07
Can't get this on iTunes since it is an import. This is Cohen at his peak. If you have no Leonard Cohen - give this one a try!
Dark and Brilliant.......2007-01-28
This is not the kind of album you want to put on when having a cocktail party. It's alone music. But it is a harrowing, brilliant album. Songs of Love and Hate begins with Cohen's trademark flamenco guitar and winds it's way through stark children's choruses and spine-tingling string accompaniments. But Cohen's startling lyrics take center stage. He is a poet on caliber with Bob Dylan. This album is so uncommercial, however, that it is out of print. I got my copy on eBay. The album hits a peak with track 4, "Diamonds In the Mine" a raucous, fun number where Cohen sounds dangerously unhinged. Just as it sounds like he's lost control, we return to his solo acoustic guitar on track 5, "Dress Rehearsal Rag." The towering, depressing "Famous Blue Raincoat" is featured on every Cohen retrospective and tribute album (of which there are several). It starts out with the poet intoning, "It's four in the morning, the end of September, I'm writing you now, just to see if you're better..." There's something about being awake at four in the morning. It's not the night, and it's not really the morning either. Most people are not awake at this hour. Only tortured loners like Leonard Cohen. SOLAH concludes with the elegiac "Joan of Arc" which, if you haven't slit your wrists by then, will send you off with the feeling that you have just heard something raw and painfully honest from a great songwriter. The album has a very cohesive quality, as if it could have been recorded all in one night. The mood captured is consistently somber but it has the feeling of a stark, emotional moment in time that was as rare as it was brief.
His Ships Are On Fire.......2006-11-19
Because it was mostly unfamiliar, only one of the tracks appearing on Best Of LC or The Essential LC, I didn't listen to "Songs of Love and Hate" much at first. And none of it is what you'd call catchy sing-along music--maybe Diamonds in the Mine, if you can get a good scream going on by the end. But the more I listen the more I appreciate the raw emotional power than Cohen invests in these songs. "Avalanche" makes me feel a little guilty about being a liberal; "Last Year's Man" leads the listener directly to "Dress Rehearsal Rag", a state-of-mind I'd wish on no one; "Diamonds in the Mine"--a bouncy little piece of nihilism; "Love Calls You" even with its odd rhythmic structure, seems almost upbeat; after the painfully personal "Famous Blue Raincoat, Cohen invites us to "Sing Another Song, Boys" as his "ships are on fire" (I'm always right there on "she waves a Nazi dagger" for some reason). By the time the quite "Joan of Arc" comes along, we're ready for some peace, which only comes in the name of fire. All in all, an emotional juggernaut; emblematic of Cohen's genius.
What can I tell you, my brother, my killer?.......2006-10-14
I originally purchased this album after a friend had put Famous Blue Raincoat on a mix CD, and I was mad.
Why?
She didn't put the rest of the album on that mix CD.
This is the essence of Leonard Cohen - beauty in sorrow, sorrow in beauty.

Is music for a good cause a good cause for music? Not really, if you expect artistry. But this smorgasbord of popular international musical stars brings together extreme musical genres for an excellent purpose, and is enjoyable enough for almost anyone. Pavarotti's relaxed and buoyant leadership and still gorgeous tenor add beauty to the rock/pop selections. Trisha Yearwood, Celine Dion, and Stevie Wonder impressively hold their own against Opera Spice; but the other artists pale against the master's presence. The Spice Girls will never be confused with Anonymous 4; Zucchero's growling is scary; Florent Pagny exemplifies French rock; and Pino Daniele's breathy tenor is mellow and soothing. Best for those wanting to experience Pavarotti's vocal beauty in a more popular idiom. --Barbara Eisner Bayer
Customer Reviews:
A Superb Collection of Music.......2002-11-14
As a musician, I first ran into this disk as a PBS broadcast. What caught my ear was that every song in the concert has "the groove." Other than a children's choral cut, not a single song in the entire collection has a flaw. You'd think the Spice Girls would be a silly addition to the concert, but they do a tremendous job. Each artist appears twice, usually with Pavaotti in one of their songs, sometimes twice. Vanessa Williams is Hot! and does an incredible dance number. The engineering is excellent, with solid side-to-side separation for a really "big" sound. All in all, this is one of the favorite CDs in my music library.
This is a delightful combination of music talents to enjoy!.......1999-04-01
We first saw Pavarotti and Friends on Public Television as a fundraising event. We found the CD and especially love to listen to this CD in our car which has a great sound system. Each vocalist is so special and you will be singing along with them after a couple of plays!
This will tenderize your heart........1999-03-07
Brilliant talent for needy children, that touches the soul, and sets it on fire. Your tears will soak your socks. James
Phenomenal !! A must have for any music library........1998-12-29
A most wonderful gathering of some of the world's greatest vocalists. Such a unique blend of international Modern & Classical. If one were to put to test the ability of a vocalist to adapt to a variety of melodies, this is it. Grab your lover and take a trip in their arms with this CD!!
Outstanding Music, bringing Pavarotti to new heights........1998-12-06
Easily the best in the Pavarotti & Friends series. Always an artist on the cutting edge, with this album, Pavarotti's work will have great appeal to his fans and to scores of new enthusiasts. His duets with the Spice Girls, Vanessa Williams, Zucchero, and Stevie Wonder make it obvious that his voice has adaptability and a passion that takes it into many musical genres with ease. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Sting once commented that great music occurs in the "synaptic gaps" where many different styles come together - this is an album that epitomizes the concept. Neopolitan music is a folk music in Italy, with overtones of American folk/country/jazz/rock, and Pavarotti is the Neopolitan master. This is a perfect fit of artists and selected titles. Earlier combinations of artists in this series were often much too somber, much less fun. Give this one to your teens or your great grandmother ... they'll find they have more musical tastes in common than they'd have ever imagined.

Just the thing for a metal addict like me!.......2007-05-14
I had this on cassette back in the day, but it decomposed with age and became un-playable. When I discovered it had been re-issued, I wasted no time in getting it. Now I can't listen to anything else! This CD is late 80's/early 90's metal that will make your brain bleed! All tracks are an eleven on a scale of one to ten, but for me, the stand-out tracks are "Back on the Bitch", "Switchblade Serenade", "Thru These Eyes", "Spread Eagle", "42nd Street", and "Shotgun Kiss". Ray West's voice is custom-made for high energy metal, and it really compliments the skull-crushing guitar work. I would describe their sound like this: Take one part Guns 'n Roses, one part AC/DC, two parts Accept, put it all in a blender and throw in a dash of Skid Row. Voila! Spread Eagle!
Spread Eagle Shreds.......2007-04-01
It's great to see this CD back out. A best-kept secret. Spread Eagle has an energy level and musical prowess matched only by bands like Van Halen and Megadeth. These guys are NOT kidding around. It's really heavy, but without being gloomy. Very few bands can shred this hard and still maintain a melodic, sexy feel to the music. One of my favorites! You gotta hear this!

Awesome album.......2007-03-25
Thanks Lovember Records for this Awesome reissue!!! This classic reissue is a great album and is exactly what one would expect from Spread Eagle. They deliver a hard rock album that stays true to their roots and offers up enough time changes to make everything sound fresh. Spread Eagle showed on this release how much talent they had, and it translated into huge commercial success.
Amazing Debut!.......2007-03-19
I can't believe this record has been reissued!! Thank God for the people at Lovember Records. The remastering on this cd blows the original away. Spread Eagle's debut is one of the best records I've ever heard. The guitar player shreds like the best of them, the singer has a very unique voice but most of all their songs are "real". They had everything a rock band should have: LOTS OF ATTITUDE!
The lyrics for "Thru These Eyes" are incredible. "Suzy Suicide" reminds me a bit of Motorhead. "Switchblade Serenade" use to get played on rock radio non-stop and MTV's Headbanger Ball. If you like your rock loud and raw then buy this record. You WON'T be disappointed.

I love how these guys sing! Growing up and being an LA Spanglish speaker myself, it's great to actually see it make sense on a cd. (Not all the songs are Spanglish, though) If I was guy there would be a couple of songs on here that I would use for seranading my girl! :> For now I just imagine a guy playing it for me. Sofie
Outstanding bachata album.......2006-04-16
Es una pasada de album de bachata. Amor y Odio.
Love & Hate.......2005-07-30
I don't even speak Spanish and I love this CD. The singing is beautiful, great melodies, beats, etc. Great CD, even coming from a white girl.
Tryna be down?.......2005-01-28
I must admit, I do like Aventura at least more songs than not. Ok so they may have their image geared towards "las mujeres" but image aside...they some tight musicians! I respect them for their body of work thus far and like that they at least make a go for originality...even if it doesn't always go that way. I copped "Love and Hate" when it first came out and liked what i heard, what I didn't like and also in agreeance with another reviewer is that, there is some wack "self promotion" and skits that just suck. Aventura has an urban flava but they aren't hip hop or reggaeton, or even bachata for that matter, but when they throw rhymes in their songs, it just kills it for me. I don't care that they are from El Bronx... Aventura aren't gangstas and they are sure as hell don't come off street or hip hop!! Hahaha they throw a lil guest appearence from a no name mc( like on the "Obsession" remix which I actually do like ) and it's your typical syndrome of trying to reach the realnesss la gente. other than some tired tricks the songs here are cool but this is not on par with "We Broke the rules" and they seem like they are tryna be down and should just stick to playing from the heart. Anthony is a cool singer but all the self hype is wack, but then again what do you expect? He is the lead singer and feel he MUST call himself Romeo and liken himself to The Beatles circa 1964, cuz all you'll hear at a live gig is AHHHHHH AYYYYYY ROMEOOO!! But I'm not hating on Romeo his singing voice is tight and, frontin or not, he still does a good job on "Love and Hate" with singing and vocals. Lenny is a good guitarist and Mikey is a good, fluid bassist, I don't know what the hell Henry's role is in the band he could be a bachata "hype man" like a Flavor Flav to a Chuck D or a Proof to Eminem, Henry to me is the "Romeo hype man!" I wish Lenny and Mikey would get more love because they are really the "musicians" in Aventura and if you really pay attention can see they can play their guitars and bassies respectively. Besides obvious faults this is a solid album and they cross modern bachata with some worthy rock n perico ripiao riddims. Hooking up with accordianist El Prodigio works on "Me voy" and they should do more "tipico" joints i was feeling this. Tego Calderon toasting "Envidia" is aight but reggaeton sounds tired when Aventura attempts it, I am not a fan of 'ton so thats my opinion, the only good reggaeton flavored song I heard from Aventura was the remix to "Obsecion. So I'm curious to see what Aventura does next as a new album is expected and should be in the works. this came out in late 2003 so maybe by the summer they'd drop an album, get all the nalgitas hanging out!! Hahaha what I would do is recommend this if you have enjoyed aventura so far, in my opinion they have potential to go even furthur than they have, as they are only about 6 years as a band now. some bands don't get real smoking 10 years into their careers! Let's see what happens...in the meantime this album is good but not great, they could tighten things up and top "We Broke the rules" easily if they stay REAL and forget what the modern trend dictates.

This is what happens when rap-a-lot puts it's touches on an album. Dirty is a good group, but put them down with the way we do things in H-town and you have a classic.
Dirty Boys Way Too Slept On!!!.......2005-03-16
For anyone that listens to hip hop, to not like this album is absurd. Your not listining close enough. This is one of the best southern rap albums ever. I used to listen to them when their first album was released and I was very interested, then I joined the military, and a short time later their second album dropped, and I didn't like one song on it. A year and a half later, while I was deployed in Iraq for the first time, I came across this album and was kind of scepticle due to the lacky second album and their signing with Rap-A-Lot records. But I had to give it a chance. I found this is by far their best album. So many great tracks on it and excelent production and beats. Their flow on "Ain't No Sunshine", is some of the realest s**t I've ever heard. The lyrics hit so close to home it almoast brings tears to my eyes! I really hope they come up because people are missing out on such a damn good thing.

yeah them dirty boyz come hard on (...). to me these boyz is legends in the south right up there wit ugk, 8ball and mjg, geto boys, and goodie mob. this album is bangin mane. they can come crunk or laid-back on the track. the best songs are love us or hate us, we still, 24 inches woodgrain grippin, da hood, gangsta wife,i wish, thats why i, and thou shall not kill.
Str8 Fire!!.......2004-07-08
I basically agree with every review on here. This CD was and still is a great cd. Atleast 5 bangers and no bad tracks at all. Recommend this cd to anyone and I can't wait to get the chopped & screwed version.

Smooth Up in Ya.......2007-04-18
Let it be known and acknowledged throughout the realm that this is a good album. It resonates with debauchery, slumming, and general otherwise occupations pursued while drinking. It's easy to look at this band's song titles and think that this is all, yet Jizzy and co. place a stamp of adventure and peril on living on the wild side and the slippery slide of booze becomes a mantra, yet one chanted beneath the winsome altar of Dionysus. ':
This is probably their most "fun" album. Let's Rumble" reeks of barbed wire and oil spills; the songs are heavy and true to Thor. "I'm Not Happy" is a daft mix of liquid thunder and poignant melodic malaise.
"Wasted in America" is a look back at the boys on top of the world and the seemingly good times that resonated onto vinyl/cassette/etc..
Love/ Hate was/is much better than the average metal band of the late 80's and should be given a second look by the Rolling Stone crowd and their ilk. If you belong to this Men's Health demigod group, contrite yourself with three straight listens of "Wasted in America" and a devoted drink of at least six Budweisers (Zinfandel and Syrah acceptable). Then apply yourself to the prescribed regimen of 200 ab crunches- though they'll seem insignificant at this point, given the jokerish majesty that is "Wasted in America". All hail the king- and the joker!
Not as good as their first release!.......2006-04-23

Hard Rock Funk Stew.......2004-10-05
These cats never hit it big because they were just too damn hip for the masses to grasp. It's an odd mix of GNR & The Chili Peppers, sort of a hard rock funk stew. Jizzy Pearl does sound a lot like Axl but has a beatnik vibe that makes him unique. Title cut hits hard with droning melodic guitars and Jizzy's Alice Cooper like snarl. Spit and Yucca Man lock in to relentless grooves. This band was obviously tight as hell when they made this record. Don't know much about Skid, but the dude could write, and not just good riffs- check out the lyrics on Social Sidewinder. Fave is Miss America- perfect blend of slick 80's rock with skeptical lyrics and a hint of grunge. For what it's worth, all of this bands' records are solid. Also, check out Jizzy Pearl's website- www.jizzypearl.com. This guy is funny as hell and very intelligent. His latest solo record Just A Boy(available only on his website) is five stars in my humble opinion.
Slamming, unique metal band you should check out.......2003-10-15
Love/Hate were certainly an enigma in the early 90's - as most pop metal bands were trying to do the Bon Jovi thing with slick ballads and cheesy rockers (some decent, such as Danger Danger, some awful, such as Trixter), Love/Hate basically did the Guns N' Roses thing but a little heavier and less accessible. Gutteral, sleazy "pop" metal that is a direct descendent of Shout At The Devil and Appetite For Destruction, but with more humor and musical tricks injected into the songs. Every player is firing on all cylinders, the guitar tone and solos are heavy but not always obvious or expected, and vocalist Jizzy Pearl's screech is one of the better examples of typical 80's metal. I read a review once that called this the 2nd best metal album of the 90's, and I wouldn't be too quick to disagree. Wasted In America was a great effort from a sadly unnoticed band that deserved to be a major player, I guess they never had a sappy enough ballad to break them through to the masses. Nearly every tune on here is a keeper, and last but not least, you can probably find it fairly cheap.
Best Tracks:
"Wasted In America" - Straight up driving rock with great guitar.
"Spit" - Queen-like vocals on the intro always crack me up, they make lyrics like 'Throbbing, pulsating, gyrating, hyperventilating' sound angelic. After that it's a slamming GNR meets Chili Peppers-type tune.
"Yucca Man" - Who knows what this is about, but it's heavy and the musicianship is great.
"Happy Hour" - Way left of center lyrics go hand in hand with this odd timed beat, all the time changes and musical/lyrical quirks make this as artsy and proggy as heavy Crimson or Rush.
"Tranquilizer" - Beautiful intro is deceptive, kicks into metal around 1 minute. Great song, love the guitar all the way through.
"Dont F*** With Me" - The band's odd sense of humor pops up, this is a charming and hilariously catchy sing along - a childish and essential rant that is 10000 times better than "Get In The Ring" or any other hateful tracks for it's sense of humor.
