Customer Reviews:
Great diversity.......2005-07-06
The title hear says it all: This 2-cd set completely disregards the old mentality of old-school punk rock compilations. Although mostly punk, there is some amazing talent to be heard on here. Here are some highlights I found worthy of mentioning:
Disc 1:
Don't Need This by Turnedown -- a plain old-fashioned catchy punk rock tune. Reminds me of Lagwagon meets Propagandhi. Lotsa fun.
Who Am I? by Blue Root -- A really cool groove-rock/reggae tune that gradually builds to rockin climax at the end. Despite some 311 and Sublime references, a very unique sound. Guest MC Isaiah of Pensativa adds a lot to the mood and overall sonic landscape.
Incomplete by W3G -- A very solid, hard rocker. Easily could've garnered mainstream radio attention with some publicity. Imagine Linkin Park without any technical gadgets or turntables or rapping.
The Pootenanny -- Imagine if the Roots were really a bunch of white guys, and they had a keyboardist with an old-fashioned lounge-singer vibe. Amazing live. Solid, catchy hooks, and infectious grooves. Dont hate 'em cuz theyre funky.
Stinkaholic has 2 good songs on here: One is no-holds-barred punk (Feel the Pain), and one is like some sort of homage to Primus (Bastard Smashing Glass), another one of those unique punk bands.
X-Cell Factor -- Can this drummer even be human??? These guys make quite mind-bending psychedelic metal ala Tool. I couldnt stop listening to these songs. Too bad they dont have a full length to munch on.
