About the Artist
Agua Dulce Bio

Agua Dulce is the sweetwater that vibrates within each of our bodies when we feel the strike of the drum; the heart beat. It’s beautiful music that flows free like a waterfall pouring into the audience. The music is a fiery melting pot of different styles and rhythms taking listeners one musical journey through Cuba, Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Brazil. This distinguishment is well received and appreciated by the large and diverse audiences this group naturally attracts.

Rooted in San Diego, California, the group not only shares the same roof, but also the same dreams of music and success. Dedicating themselves to the study and performance of World Music, those dreams are turning into reality. Since coming together in1997, the six members have accomplished much in their short musical career. Agua Dulce has performed in France, Holland, Hungary, the Balkans, Iceland, New York, Hawaii, Cabo San Lucas, and throughout California. They have performed with such distinguished acts such as Barbarito Torres (Buena Vista Social Club), Pete Escovedo, Malo, Tierra, and Ozomatli.

The Hernandez brothers, Tizoc on bass and Joaquin on Drums are the backbone of the band. Dante Loaiza sings lead in English and Spanish as well as playing the Puerto Rican guitar the “Quatro” and playing trumpet and percussion. The other lead singer Israel Maldonado sings in Spanish and Portuguese and plays the classical guitar, the Brazilian guitar the “Cavaquinho” and leads the Brazilian percussion. On the keyboard is the sexy Claudia Chavarria Booth, a graduate of the Berkley school of music. On congas and percussion is the fierce and mighty rumbero, Paul Lopez.

With the release of their long awaited Cd, “Searching for Juana” on their own record label “No Mames Records”, a brand new fifteen-passenger van and a new booking agent, the future indeed looks promising. An up coming four song E.P. is expected to be released before the new year so look out and see you at the show!!!!

Album Description
The new release of San Diego, California natives, Agua Dulce “Searching for Juana” is a musical journey, embarking the listener on a cool river that flows through a diverse musical landscape of Afro-Cuban, Funk, Rock, and Soul. The intoxicating percussion and rhythm, are the navigators of the vessel and song and melody are the crew and their song of adventure. The southern Californian’ natives have created an album so mature and yet excitingly youthful that they, along with their album, will defiantly catch the world by surprise. Song’s like “Under the sun”, and “Juana” the hit of the album, are the English sung, upbeat, light hearted, songs about good times and fun; the first with a funk/hip-hop beat and the next with a cha-cha/salsa combination. Other titles such as “Fly away” and “Cruzin” combine powerful combination of the Puerto Rican “Quatro” with a Cuban timba feel, singing in Spanish and English and changing feels in the middle of the songs.

I saw this band in San Diego about 5 years ago, and immediately fell under their spell. The latin rhythms and bongo beat can't keep you in your seat! They are an awsome band, and this album is good. Enjoy!
