About the Artist
Born in Duluth, Minnesota, Destiny Emrys(christened by her mother-"she came out and that was her name")seemed "destined" to make her way in the arts. Destiny's mother toured with Minneapolis-based rock band, Trinity Freak, while pregnant and attributes her daughter's musical talent to the sounds she heard in utero. Destiny has been singing since she can remember and has been playing and performing since the age of 9.

In 1992, Destiny left the University of Northern Colorado where she was studying vocal performance, both classical and jazz, and discovered her talent for songwriting. Living in her mom's basement, she taught herself to play on a "crappy relic of a Mexican guitar" borrowed from her mom's roommate. Opening for Denver locals The Minders, Rainbow Sugar, and The S-FRO 7 under the name Mary Margarine, Destiny found the bar scene unfulfilling as a solo artist. Moving to Tucson, AZ in 1995, Destiny performed as a solo acoustic act in local coffee shops and small venues.

Feeling there was still something missing, Destiny returned to Denver in 1999. There she met award-winning producer Lance Bendiksen(Bendiksen Productions) and after hearing her repertoire of original music, he agreed to produce her debut album, "Like Phantoms and Dreams". While recording at Fanfare Studios in Golden, CO, Destiny's true colors emerged. Instantly at home in the studio and with the support of a rhythm section hired by Mr. Bendiksen, Destiny found her music transformed from acoustic folk to wonderfully catchy pop music seemingly engineered for college radio.

"Like Phantoms and Dreams", recorded on a shoestring in five days, showcases Ms. Emrys' versatility as both singer and songwriter. Citing major influences like the Beatles, Heart, Ella Fitzgerald, and Cocteau Twins, it is no wonder this CD seems to bring together a variety of genres-blending perfectly into a style uniquely her own.

Destiny is currently living again in Tucson, collaborating and writing new material. A tour is in the works for 2002 and the album is being played on community and college radio stations.

Album Description
"Like Phantoms and Dreams", the debut release from emerging artist Destiny Emrys, is described by the artist as "intelligent pop with a laid-back jazzy retro feel". The album successfully fuses a variety of styles into a unique yet quite familiar sound. This music is like a good movie-you don't really know where it's going until you get there. Fans of Sarah MacLachlan, Tori Amos, Jewel, and Fiona Apple will want to add "Like Phantoms and Dreams" to their collection.
