About the Artist
The B-3s grew out of the bars of working-class Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The band quickly developed a faithful following that became addicted to their blues drenched traditional and two-tone ska. After numerous compilation appearances the B-3s released a 7" single, and CDEP, and their debut full-length on Jump Start Records. "Krakatoa" marks their leap to St Louis based Kick Save Records!

Album Description
"Krakatoa", the second full-length release from the B-3s features 12 tracks of unadulterated boos infused ska! The B-3s mix traditonal ska and rocksteady with plenty of Latin and Irish flavoring. The band still clings to its early blues influence with tracks such as "Eastside Shuffle" and "Devils Blues" Cuts such as "Skratchin'n at Skars" and "Wake Me" uncover the benefits of new strong female vocals. The album is a testament to the quality ska music being produced during these dark days of ska.

    I strongly recommend ANYTHING by the Volcanos. With the Mosrite guitar sound of the 60's, you can't go wrong. Every track is a winner.

    The vocals are awesome, very original. The music is great, ranging from pummeling to soothing. Every track on here is worth a listen every time and the lyrics are interesting as well. It's too bad they didn't stay with this.

    wow, this album is one of the best hardcore albums i have ever heard. Its definately different from any other hardcore act out there. Lots of traditional hardcore vocals mixed with intense and yet atmospheric guitars, and drama-filled leads. Think Harvest but more melodic and a million times better. If you are a fan of harvest or pretty-much any other hardcore band, this album is for you. 5 stars!

        Krakatoa play instrumental music that defies easy categorization, mixing electronic and acoustic instruments and classical, jazz, and rock forms. I have even seen them described as "avante-garage". On the album We Are The Rowboats, the use of violin and piano especially make Krakatoa stand out, and they sometimes seem to invoke early Curved Air or the jazz-fusion of Frank Zappa (or even the experiments of the first Electric Light Orchestra album). Few other modern groups make comparable music. Similar to certain progressive rock bands of the past like Gentle Giant, each group member capably plays many different instruments on different pieces. However, unlike Gentle Giant or Curved Air, this is not vocalist-driven music. Most pieces are quick romps (sometimes almost manic) through several different musical themes. This makes for interesting listening, but sometimes I found myself hoping for more development. Most pieces are melodic and playful, which distinguishes Krakatoa from other modern instrumental bands with a more heavy or oppressive edge (such as Happy Family who have a similar manic approach to their music). Standout tracks are Spiral Dive, Telegraph, Naked Congress, Orange Whistle, Covered Bridges, and Rotor Blade.

          This is what "3rd Wave Ska" should have really been about; good music, lyrics you can relate to, and sexy female mankillers. Great independent CD for those who are hip to quality.

          The music pulls you in immediately and never lets you go! Their voices (especially the females) are powerful yet are intertwined to form beautiful tight vocals. The music will not allow you to sit still! Simply put, a must have for your collection!

          I love this album! I can't stop listening to it. Their ska rendition of "Foggy Dew" is truely outstanding!! Their voices sound great on this album. They are very talented and have a very full sound! They are exploding with energy. I also love their version of "Mantequilla". I highly recommend this album!!
