Upbeat and different.......2005-05-30
Editorial disclosure: Pippilina is a dear and near friend of mine!
This album is great for many reasons:
1) It is truly unique -- I challenge anyone to try and pigeonhole this music or find anything remotely like it. How would I classify it? How about "Happy techno music with commodore 64 flavored synthesizers"?
2) It is very upbeat
3) It is very cleverly constructed
4) It is not repetative
If you like quirky, different music then this one is must-have CD.
There is only one track on it I don't like (6) -- everything else is great!
Highly recommended

Listening to "Upsquirrel" is like watching a fencing match between two dandilions. Wonderful bright-yello tunes.
Pippilina rocks!.......2001-09-11
Gameboy and elektro-cello!I immediately bonded w/ the tracks. They had already been dancing around my head since last time I saw her live. At last I can march on through the day to the tune of Upsquirrel!!
Up With Squirrels!.......2001-09-09
Rather than pumping out mediocre dance melodies or poppy sample-laden techno, Pippilina concentrates on the way that sounds intersect and combine to create tangibly emotional compositions. Upsquirrel is full of songs which create a definite sense of time and space. Each song is composed in almost a completely different style, which might seem a bit disorienting at first, but as you listen, an underlying theme is revealed, an optimistic sweetness that almost borders on naivety, a very human face for electronica which makes it very approachable.
My favorite songs on Upsquirrel are Origami Pilon Hunter (Track 3), Divisadero - Thermakwik (Track 5) and Eat to Live (Track 18).
Though Pippilina's influences vary widely, this album fits nicely alongside Aphex Twin, Kid 606, Sigur Ros and Squarepusher, and there's even a nod to John Cage with track 17, "Silence".
