5 out of 5 stars The best ever version.......2002-06-07

The wonderful cast transports you to the realms of Gilbert and Sullivan, to make you feel that you are experiencing a first night in 1881! John Reed, as Bunthorne, an aesthetic poet is superb, camp, subversive and a complete fraud. If anyone is not aware, the story of the opera is based upon the idiosyncracies of the Aesthetic movement in England of the 1880's and Gilbert used the public parodies of his friend Oscar Wilde as his major source. The rest of the cast, chorus and orchestra , under the long experienced 'Goddie' are superlative and make for one of the finest line-ups in D'Oyly Carte history. Revel and enjoy, for this is quite the best.

5 out of 5 stars The Golden Cast of D'Oyly Carte!.......1999-04-13

My wish had always been to see John Reed and the D'Oyly Carte Company in a performance of Patience. My mother had done so, remarking that, 'You'd need patience to watch it', she was coloured in her opinion, since she wanted to see 'The Mikado', but had gotten the wrong tickets! The recording, made in 1961, is superb in every detail. You are with the cast, on stage, in the auditorium, it is such a 'live' performance. The dialogue is delivered exquisitely, whilst the singing is uniformerly of the highest standard. I recently portrayed 'Bunthorne' and throughout my performances, I felt that I was continuing the legacy of Gilbert and Sullivan. All the past history of performers were there. I feel that Patience is a magical Savoy Opera. Do not miss the opportunity to own such a definitive performance. Maybe the subject of the 'Art Nouveau' periodof Victorian England is dated, but as one critic has already stated, every generation 'throws up' its poseures, to be knocked. 'Ah, me! lack aday!' BUY IT!

4 out of 5 stars The Definitive Recording.......1998-12-09

For those who prefer the traditional Savoyard renderings of the G&S canon, this is far and away the best recording of this parody of the cult of celebrity. John Reed leads the cast as a delightful Bunthorne, and the recording contains all of the opera's dialogue. "HMS Pinafore," "The Mikado," and "The Pirates of Penzance" may be better known, but "Patience" is deserving of a wider audience.

5 out of 5 stars The Cramps at their peak-a-boo, yummy foreplay..........2001-05-23

Psychadelic rockabilly lovemaking music that would've turned Elvis onto B&D. If you can imagine Scarlett O' Hara and James Dean collaborating with Betty Page, Twiggy, David Lynch, and Charles Manson, and they all made love to each other on the set of a possible Troma Entertainment remake of "Night Of The Living Dead", then zoomed back in time to 1957... Throw in a dash of "Behind The Green Door" and a splash of Jerry Lee Lewis... a twist of lemon... and a tall, ice-cold, Sky Vodka Martini, shaken and extra, extra dirty... You'd have this must-have rockabilly sex-classic. It's as if Lords Of Acid did country and read Robert Crumb comics... The Cramps R fancy cats !

5 out of 5 stars Very Rockabilly ala Carl Perkins.......2000-11-22

If the Cramps ever recorded an album with Carl Perkins, this is what it would sound like. It's an awesome record that's closed out with the Perkins rarity "Her Love Rubbed Off"--a song that Carl turned out to be embarassed about due to the suggestive lyrics.

This is probably their most upbeat record. It's a huge improvement from their previous album "A Date with Elvis", which can probably be contributed to the fact that they added Candy Del Mar on bass, who added great melodic basslines.

Like Songs the Lord Taught Us, it contains great covers and originals. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Like to dance? You'll love the cramps.......1999-04-14

In my opinion this album is number one for great parties. The songs are catchy, and wierd. If the monster mash was a graveyard smash, Stay sick is the album for a successful bash! If your not into the darker side of life on a regular basis, it's sure to provide excellent fun for the Hallowe'en season. My personal faves are Bikini Girls with Machine Guns and, Bopp Pills This album is unique, up-beat and very danceable.

5 out of 5 stars "I'd just assume STAY SICK".......2006-10-26

The Cramps is my all-time favorite band, and this is my all-time favorite album. All the songs are great, but I love 'Creature From the Black Leather Lagoon'. What an awesome f#cking song. It's up there with 'Garbage Man', and 'Surfin' Dead'(The first Cramps song I ever heard, from the 'Return of the Living Dead' soundtrack). And if you ever find the video for Creature From the Black Leather Lagoon, check that out too. And you guessed it. All-time favorite music video. 'Bikini Girls With Machine Guns' conjures up twisted youthful comic book fantasies. 'Shortnin' Bread' is a manic cover of the recognizable song orginally by (I think) Johnny Mercer. 'Everything Goes' was practically made for strip clubs. And 'Journey to the Center of a Girl' is my second favorite song on the album, and ALOT of fun to listen to.

The music sounds very much the same as their previous efforts, but that's one of the things I find endearing about their timeless-as-infinity evil beach music. If they keep making it, I'll keep listening and loving every minute of it.

1 out of 5 stars This is horrible!.......2006-08-07

The Cramps peaked around 1980. For the lst 26 years, it is the same schtick, same riffs, same everything. The band started out cool yet never progressed. They are not cutting edge, bizzare or even threatening anymore. These are middle aged people, embarassing themselves and purposefully writing dirty songs. At least Poison Ivy can see that she is an exerienced retro guitar player but Lux Interior, he looks silly by now!

"Gravest Hits" was cool, different and excitingly gutteral, "Songs our Lord Taught Us" was a more complete musical work, "Psycho Jungle" peaked this form of music and then it was all down hill from there.

All bands, especially punk ones, when they stayed together they became proffecient song writers and instrumentalists, except for the Cramps

Their best, most original stuff was from their beginning.

5 out of 5 stars Quite simply............2006-08-05

Quite simply and quite seriously one of the greatest rock and roll albums of all time.

If "Save me the label of that perfume on the table, so I can remember what made a wreck of me" isn't one of the most brilliant lines ever written I don't know what is.

Exceptional, hilarious lyrics and Poison Ivy, the Queen of Rockabilly Guitar and Gold Lame Bikinis.

Free the sleazy rocker that lives inside your soul and buy this.

4 out of 5 stars Nice butt!.......2005-10-04

This is a typical Cramps album of rockabilly-influenced punk. (or is it punk-influenced rockabilly?) Featuring the usual off-color originals and obscure covers. One of their better albums, and their fans should love it.

5 out of 5 stars journey to the center of a great album! whooohooo!.......2005-08-06

This album is incredible. It rocks hard and its hilarious. It is unbeleivably catchy, with great songs like "creature from the black leather lagoon" and "daisies up your butterfly" that you will listen to over and over again. I can't stop putting this one back in my stereo. buy it now!
