    Prisma is one of the rarest artists in Mexican music. She is a singer/songwriter who never valued herself on her looks, but simply sang her beautiful little heart out. Even though she acheived success, she is all but forgotten today. She began her career in the 70's, where she started off as a teacher, but then turned to music. I am not sure what her real name is, but I am aware that she chose the name Prisma as a good luck charm for a stage name, and in her beginnings, would give out Prism necklaces to her public that would attend her concerts. She was very successful, up until the 80's when she became very ill (unsure what the cause was) and decided to retire. She has written songs for other people, most notably 'Fuego Y Ternura" by Lucero.

    This is the ONLY CD that has ever been released by this incredible talent. It's a shame that after so many years, a true artist of this kind is not even praised today, not here or her native land of Mexico. She was often regarded as the female Joan Sebastian, and in fact sang 2 duets with him "Una Dama Y Un Señor" and "Oiga" (both NOT included on this CD).

    Prisma seemed to have a knack for melody. Track after track, you can see how the melody is always the strongest point in the song, almost immediately striking your head and staying there. From her upbeat pseud-country songs ("te lo van diciendo, mi querido amor, esas cosas del amor") to her heartfelt ballads ("estoy contigo en esta cancion" and her amazing "De color de rosa"), the melody carries the song to it's peak. Vocally, Prisma is a top notch vocalist, having much control over her high spirited Soprano voice. I've said this before, but she really ranks up there with Dollly Parton. You can almost say she is the Spanish Dolly!

    The CD itself includes most of Prisma's more known material, including her biggest hits "Tomalo, Tomalo", the aforementioned "De Color De Rosa", "Hijo De La Mala Vida" and my personal favorite "Cálla". However, it fails by excluding the Joan Sebastian duets and "Ni Un Beso, Ni Un Adios". I hope more of Prisma's material is released soon, for it will be a crime to deny the world of this talent.

    I highly recommend anybody to pick up this CD. Great price, 20 great tracks, no filler, and you will find some great Country-Western tinged songs from this great singer.

          I love this CD. Lots of schweeeet acoustical goodies. While I like Shawn's vocals, the instrumentals are my FAVORITES. Robert Fripp would be jealous! I am looking forward to the followup.

          Whoa...Here is a talented guitar player making some of the coolest music I have heard in a long time. With plenty of open-tuned virtuosity, Shawn Persinger is Prester John has put together a collection of songs that is moody, dark, melodic, sublime, beautiful, edgy...the adjectives go on. This album is perfect for a dark stormy day. I recommend it highly. out of the approximately 350 CD's that I own, "Peerless" is in my top ten.

          This is a pretty good CD. No wait, this is a really good CD, and you should buy it, and then you should go see Shawn in person whenever he plays a show near you. You won't regret it, I swear, and I'm sure it's free so you'd be having free fun. Anyway this is a really good album, lots of nice songs which consist a wide variety of styles, but he also has his own which is called "Modern/Primitive" guitar. Check it out.

          Nuevamente la recién desaparecida Peerless (que se acaba de fucionar con una compañía internacional)nos sorprende con una entrega llamada 70 aniversario. A través de 70 títulos diferentes, la compañía seleccionó a grandes artistas de su acervo (así como a algunos mediocres)para editarlos en formato de CD. Me parece que es la primera vez que la compañía edita en cd a Nestor Mesta Chayres. Esta grabación contiene 20 melodías las cuales son las siguientes:
          Cuando vuelva a tu lado
          Volveré
          Te quiero dijiste
          Cuando me vaya
          Alma mía
          Así
          Por si no te vuelvo a ver (todos estos primeras temas mencionados compuestos por la gran María Grever)
          Dos cruces
          Cuerdas de mi guitarra

          Silverio
          El organillero
          Doce cascabeles
          Siempre en el alma
          Valencia
          Granada
          Murcia
          Mi andaluza
          Corazón traicionero.
          Debo comentar que comentar que Mesta Chayres fue un gran intérprete dotado de un timbre de voz muy característico y que fue muy célebre en España por lo que gran parte de su repertorio incluía temas de corte español. Este tenor nació en el año de 1908, y lamentablemente durante su edad madura sufrió un accidente automovilístico en el cual vio morir a su madre, esto lo condujo a una afonía crónica y a un prematuro retiro. Sin embargo después, a base de esfuerzos recuperó la voz, pero jamás intentó volver a los escenarios.Chayres falleció en 1973.Esta serie de grabaciones fueron rezlizadas en la década de los cincuentas por lo que la calidad de sonido es excelente y el acompañamiento musical en las canciones de María Grever es del exquisisto Gonzalo Cervera . Solo me queda comentar que esta es una excelente recopilación que complacerá desde quien tan solo busque conocer al artsita, hasta al admirador fiel de Nestor Mesta Chayres que de seguro ha tenido mucho tiempo esperando (como yo)la edición de este CD.
