Kingston College Chapel Choir A Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of Kingston College and Dedicated to the Memory of Mr. Douglas Forrest The Kingston College Chapel Choir has consistently held the reputation as being the leading boys choir in the Caribbean for over four decades. This album celebrates the 75th anniversary of the school and represents a compilation of works spanning four decades of existence of the choir. The repertoire is drawn from albums released by the choir during the four decades and parades a spectrum of wide ranging talents and music that has stood the test of time. This glorious history was possible because of the driving force of Mr. Douglas Forrest, former Headmaster of Kingston College. He left a legacy, which now defines the musical culture of the school. Kingston College Chapel Choir has no choir school. The members of the choir sing their music entirely by rote, from memory with very few exceptions. Choir practice is held outside ordinary school hours, hence the survival of the choir takes place almost as a result of this fine tradition, which continues into the new millennium. This fine tradition could not have taken place without leadership and support. Leadership in the form of choirmasters has included the seminal contribution of Rev. Dr. Barry Davies, whose work defined the high qualitative level of the choir, which achieved a standard worthy of comparison with the best in the international arena. Other choirmasters include Ms. Soutar, Mr. Gordon Appleton, Mr. Donald Morris and the longest serving choirmaster whose voluntary work of over fifteen years has been exemplary and worthy of recognition, thanks and praise, the indefatigable Mr. Wayne Moore. The Choir has always had a support system of choir mothers responsible for general welfare of the boys and accompanists. The choir mothers include Mrs. Ralph Holding and Miss Helen Douglas. Accompanists include the late Hugh Moss-Solomon, Keith Morris and Dr. Anthony Lewis. This compact disc, which represents a compilation of three albums, In Memoriam, Favorite Hymns , and Songs for All Seasons is dedicated to the work of Douglas Forrest who was indeed the father of the Kingston College Chapel Choir. The existence of the Choir and molding of the young minds of the students to appreciate classical music was due in large measure to the vision and work of Mr. Douglas Forrest. That is why this 75th Anniversary album is dedicated to his memory and his work. It is also an expression and appreciation of the love that he gave to all of us who were privileged to be the choirboys of Kingston College during the over 40 years of its history.
