I never knew...........2007-05-17

I never knew a whole lot about Monty Alexander other than he's played with Sinatra and Dizzy and the bunch. But this album....well, after hearing it on HD TV, I was actually late for work because I had to go order it immediately. Great versions of Marley songs which are always simple and pleasant to the ears. Especially the version of "forever lovin' Jah." Highly recommended.

Iam actually surprise at the lack of reviews on this another masterpiece from the one and only Monty Alexander.The music is conservative and stays true to the original spirit but with a new flavour and style.Great artist,great musicians,excellent song selections and we have another masterpiece...highly recommended.

A Jazz-Reggae Summit.......2006-04-02

If anyone is entitled to reinterpret Bob Marley's music, it's fellow Kingstonian Monty Alexander. For this, his second outright tribute to the reggae king (the first being 1999's Stir It Up), Alexander went down to the studio where he himself first recorded at the age of fifteen, the same studio that Marley bought near the end of his own life and rechristened Tuff Gong, and with the help of a batch of locals and N'Orleans trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis, locked into a steady pulse on this set of Marley compositions. It's an attractive undertaking, smoothing out the rough edges of the composer's rebel spirit while deconstructing the simple but irresistible melodies. Marsalis marches "Simmer Down" through the French Quarter and the Rod Dennis Mento Band takes it loosely to the streetcorner on "Three Little Birds," but most of this CD is firmly rooted in mellow, groove-happy Trenchtown rock.

4th Complete group SCC album is decent.......2005-06-09

Their 4th album as a complete group (not counting the few album Havoc & Prode'je put out) is my least favorite of the 4 SCC albums I have (I don't have the one from 1992 or 2005), but it still gets itself a 4 star rating. Out of the 13 songs on here none are vclassics or worth skipping; 4 are ok and the other 9 are good. Like all their albums, guests are minimal and are on are on 2 of the 13 songs. Production is mostly handled by Prode'je (as with all their albums) he does get a little help from Robert "Fonksta" Bacon & Tomie Mundie. A good album to have for SCC fans but not their best work.

S.C.C. Neva Stops!.......1999-08-30

This is a 13 track album on CD and is totally dope. Hit Me On My Pager, (track 13), is my favorite. All Day Everyday is still my favorite but the Concrete Jungle is totally 5 stars. Get this won if ya like that reel gangsta rap. C-Bo, Spice 1, Daz Dillenger, Prophet, and Full Clipp are featured on this album. S.C.C. are still kickin' up that reel rap in the 99'.

Excellent, funky beats and decent rapping from Gigolo and crew. This is a really enjoyable album to listen to! Recommended. (Don't know if I'd pay $100 for it, though.)
