About the Artist
To all the listeners,

I can remember feeling as though my life was a movie and it had this amazing soundtrack. I was the dj playing the songs to fit every scene and emotion. I had a diverse collection of tapes, records, and 45’s, which included everything from jazz and folk rock, to Britain’s finest, soul, pop, and more. Music was my savior, my comfort and release.

I began performing musical dance numbers for my parents and their friends at six. At thirteen I performed in off-Broadway musicals in New York City. High school was rough; I had alot of things on my mind other than school work.

When North Carolina Wesleyan College gave me a scholarship, I ran with it and was chosen to be a member of the gospel and jazz choirs. It was during this time that I started my first band. We performed folk, jazz, and soul music. After college, I returned to New York City and sang jazz in cafes and nightclubs. Inspired by the city's diversity, I immediately began writing and performing my own music, creating an original soundtrack to my life. This music took on different flavors and feels, sounding eclectic and urban. It became a blend of folk, R&B, blues, and pop, along with ethnic tones from the middle east and Africa.

On this CD, you will hear my early sessions which I recorded in San Diego, California in 1999. These uniquely crafted sounds were created by combining Indian and African percussion, sitar, cello, steel guitar, funky keys, and more.

My influences include gifted artists such as Sarah Vaughn, Tracey Chapman, Hair(soundtrack), The Harder They Come(soundtrack), Erykah Badu, Bob and Ziggy Marley, Tina Marie, Digable Planets, RUN DMC, CSN&Y, Bryan Ferry, Alyson Moyet, Otis Redding, PM Dawn, and Paul Simon. These days, I spend my time recording new material and performing in New York City and Los Angeles. I am very proud to be part of the tribe of pioneers who are infusing genres and styles for all ages to appreciate and enjoy.

I want to thank you listeners, artists, God, and nature, who inspire all creation. May we always remain open to their gifts.

MIchael Hoppe is a gift to our time. His soulful and heartfelt music reaches directly into the spaces where we live our deepest lives. This Requiem includes one of the most beautifully composed and sung pieces I have heard--Pie Jesu. The voices soar and blend, directing the music into the hurt places of us, healing them into light.

Michael Hoppe has created more beautiful, haunting, evocative music. It is of a piece with all of his work, but is more reflective and serious in its aims. It speaks of loveliness, loss, and hope. His music is always part of the zeitgeist, and especially now. I particulary love "Lux Aeterna" with its swirling gypsy violin, truly like a human voice in its communication of emotion. And the vioing again in "Agnus Dei" is restful and emotive. Michael always creates oases of beauty in our trouble times.

This is music from the heavens. Michael Hoppe has done it again! In this CD, Requiem, he captures your heart with the opening notes and doesn't let go. This music compels you to sit down and listen to some of the most beautiful musical compositions and vocals you will ever hear on earth.

From the opening notes of the oboe in the first song, Introit, it calls out and beckons for you to slow down, to listen. You get a sense of being comforted and soothed in sounds that surround you. This music takes you under it's wing and comforts you. You are compelled to stop whatever you are doing and really let the music sink in. To feel, and to really listen.

This is soothing music, yes, but it is much more than that. This is solemn music, yes, but of the most beautiful kind. This is spiritual music, yes, for the soul. Perhaps it can be compared to that of a warm blanket on a cold winter's night, a soothing cup of hot tea, a fireplace. Whatever it might be for you, this music is soothing beyond measure. This is music that is comforting to the depths of the soul.

As a deep listener, I can hear every note, every nuance of the oboe, and as keyboards change chords , my whole being goes along to the pulse. Santus is a joy to listen to. As for the vocals, they are the angels from heaven! The vocal harmonizations are heavenly.

The Prayer is my favorite. With lyrics by Heidi Fielding, she sings it to us,
"You answered my prayer" and you are left with a sense of hope and renewal. You wonder could it be the same question you ask yourself. You want to believe that your prayers are answered. I can listen to this song over and over again and I have. Let me rephrase that, I can listen to this CD over and over again. And I have.
I know if you listen to this CD, you will get to listen to your own soul in the process.

When I listen to "Requiem", words fail. Michael Hoppe's music speaks to my heart and soul in ways that are beyond words, and this magnificent work in particular has reached profound depths. It's an experience of music and prayer being one, an experience of transcendence. It is painful to lose loved ones in this life, and yet I know they remain so very much in our midst - a presence whose tranquility now touches us in the prayer of music. This magnificent work, from the "Introit" to the concluding "In Paradisum," moves the heart to contemplate what is perhaps the most beautiful and poignant moment of all life. Truly, "Requiem" is experienced.

I have had Requiem on shuffle on my cd player for the last month and listen to it every single day. Every time I hear one of the compositions on this album, I am reminded of the simple things in life that are the most powerful. I actually take time to close my eyes and think about the flawless Makapu'u sunrise that usually is accompanied by this music through my living room window, the dew on the orchids outside my bedroom window this morning, the absolute power of all that there is to be "great-full" for in our day to day lives. Sometimes music comes along that transcends our souls. This is one of those albums. A MUST for any collector of fine music. Alyssa Milano has sugary up beat lyrics and a surprisingly good voice. If you like cheesy 90's pop you just gotta buy this album, it fits right between Britney Spears and Christina Agularia, My favorite song is "What a feeling...I'm hooked on you" it is so poppy you just can't help dancing around your room and this CD is perfect for road trips! C'mon how many people have an Alyssa Milano CD? if you don't buy it for the music buy it for the coolness factor!

I got this CD not too long ago and listened through it rather quickly. The songs are all very tuneful, and some of them are actually quite uptempo, even though a person would be inclined to think that a story where a girl goes through so much at such a young age would all be somber in tone.
This actually one of several versions of "A Little Princess" that is in musical form, but one of the few that have been recorded professionally.
I'd love to see it mounted on stage!!!

    This CD is OK. I liked two songs after the initial listen: "Waiting For Your Love" and "Everything You Do", both up-tempo pop songs. The others are OK, and after a few listens I liked most of them. Alyssa's voice is pleasant - it works with these songs and she is well supported by her backup singers. The songs are simple pop tunes, with keyboards and drum machines heavily used. If you're a big fan of Alyssa, I'd recommend this. Even if you find you don't like her music very much, the CD comes with a small photo album with about 20 pictures of her and it is nicely done.

    For all those who like the 80's pop seen or are just crazed fans of Alyssa Milano, buy this album. I know imports are more expensive but it's worth it. Her beauty shines from inside and out on this record. The title cut,"Do you see me," is so absorbent. I couldn't stop singing it! I also reccomend her other albums, especially, "Look in my heart." The only negative thing I have to say is, I don't think she's recording anymore. All we can do is hope.

      This album was released by Alyssa Milano in 1989, in Japan only. This was back when she was still on Who's the Boss. It sounds like a poor imitation of a Debbie Gibson or Tiffany album. It's no wonder it was never released in America. This product is so geared for the Japanese market, Alyssa even sings a little bit of Japanese in "Kimi Wa Sunshine Boy". I can't vouch for how good her pronunciation is. The only reason to get this CD is for the curiosity factor, but who wants to pay the outragous import price? I should also mention that the CD is only 30 minutes long.

      I am an Alyssa Milano fan but i'm not a Alyssa Milano liar.This is not singing no way no how.She's talking not singin.The only songs i do like is Count on Me,Magic In Your Eyes,and Somewhere in Jamaica but they are on other albums anyway she still can't sing.

      I used to be a really huge fan of Alyssa Milano, especially from 1988 to 1992 when she was the hottest teenage female actor. I had watched her back in 1984 on Who's the Boss and kept watching until it ended. I watched every television movie, any guest appearance, any awards show, anything she appeared in. I always looked for her music recordings, even though I knew they were only released in Japan. Amazon.com made it possible to obtain her CDs, but... I like the MUSIC of this cd. I am kind of disappointed because it doesn't even sound like her at all. I always thought she had such a sweet voice but you won't hear it in this cd. Her voice is very low (deep) and does not sound natural. It really does not sound like her at all. But the MUSIC is good because it's got that 80s pop sound. I don't regret getting this cd but I don't think I would listen to it too often though. I like her as an actor more than a singer.

      I love this CD!! I am a big fan of Alyssa Milano and listen to her CD everyday!! It really helps me to come down if I get upset about something!! If you are a fan of Alyssa Milano you must get this CD. It is 80's music but with Alyssa singing the songs, it makes you want to get up and dance and listen to it over and over:) Get this CD!!

      Alyssa Milano was a 16 year old child actress appearing on the TV show Who's The Boss when this album was released. The album was released only in Japan. Apparently, she became popular in Japan due to her role as Arnold Schwarzenegger's daughter in the film Commando. As for the album, it sounds like typical late-'80s teen pop, and not even good teen pop. Let's just say that Debbie Gibson and Tiffany had nothing to worry about. The majority of the songs were written by Joey Carbone (whoever that is), sometimes with the help of others. Alyssa herself wrote the lyrics to "We Need the Children", which sound exactly like the kind of lyrics a typical 16 year old girl would write. None of the songs are any good, with the exception of "Be My Baby", which is a remake of the classic Ronnettes hit. Unfortunately, the song is ruined by including it in a medley with the terrible original song "Tell Me That You Love Me". This album has no artistic merit, and will only be or interest to Alyssa Milano fans who want to find out what her music sounds like.

      OK, OK! This album may seem cheesy on first listening (and second!), but still give it a chance.

      With its sugary sweet lyrics and pure eighties music it's a throwback to the days of perms and pinups named Corey. And lets face it: Alyssa can't sing, but you get used to her voice quite quickly, and you find yourself gaining a new respect of Alyssa for giving it her all. (She does a better job on albums "Do You See Me?", and "Locked In a Dream" in case you're wondering).

      Even if "Alyssa" fails to grow on you, it serves as a great pick-me-up: even beautiful, talented (in other areas) people can get it wrong too. now, don't you feel better?!

      This is some of the most ridiculous music you'll ever hear. It's old. It's cheesy. It's complete crap. But then again it makes me laugh out loud all day. Got all the albums. Perfect medicine agains the worst of depressions. Just buy it from Japan, it's cheaper.

        Nicolas Flagello's work is "modern" but not too modern; these pieces are basically tonal with just enough notes you don't expect to be exciting and stimulating. I do not usually appreciate atonal music, but here it seems just right. I found myself humming the melodies at work -- even all the notes my untutored ears didn't expect! Peter Vinograde a very good-humored and laid-back man, and his performance on this CD reflects that. This music and its performance is infused with inspiring spiritual and intellectual freedom. Kudos!
