Album Description
As we explore the depths of our "self", our "souls", through massage, relaxation, and other healing modalities, we gain experience and knowingness. The music from Detaching The World Vol. 1 is a transient, which allows for this knowingness to occur in a peaceful, tranquil, and comforting environment.
This CD has been created to provide over 60 minutes in running time without the use of vocals or percussion. Emil Gagliardi has introduced a new style of guitar called "The Nuit's Effect" named after its rich soothing textures and deep earthy tones. From the opening cut of "Tranquil Sunrise", Gagliardi's swirling guitar immediately sets the perfect mood for massage and relaxation. The density of "The Valley Beyond" swallows you up in a tapestry of color similar to a warm blanket while the hauntingly beautiful "Fallen Angel" resembles a fresh new day after a storm.
Gagliardi's vision of creating the perfect massage and relaxation music sets Detaching The World (Vol. 1) apart from all others. Its purpose is to serve gentleness and ease like the inhalation and exhalation of the breath.

Detaching the World Vol 1.......2007-06-27
I purchased this CD based on the reviews alone,In comparison to other meditation Cd's I own; this CD ranks far below. The music is in my opinion anything but relaxing. Not suitable for meditation.
Promising Debut by Ambient Guitarist Emil Gagliardi.......2007-05-23
Although guitarist Emil Gagliardi's debut CD was designed for massage, meditation, and relaxation, it is much more than that. The ambient release features soothing, New Age-style synthesizer sounds generated entirely by Emil's electric guitar. The result is not only a great therapeutic tool, but also a legitimate work of sonic art in the vein of Andy Summers' classic ambient guitar album, Mysterious Barricades. Emil Gagliardi is a guitarist to keep an eye out for. [...]
Relaxing Music.......2007-02-20
I have other "relaxing" CDs that really don't do the job. This one does. I actually bought it to listen to while I had some dental work done and it was very helpful!
Boss Time.......2007-01-10
I got this gift for my boss since he is always so stressed. He closes his door sometimes and pops in the Cd to relax. Thanks!
great work!.......2006-12-30
One of the most calming and inspiring cd's I've heard in a long time! I've always felt connected to the sounds of the guitar..now I can have the best of both worlds...guitar and meditation!

Customer Reviews:
Mill. Classical review.......2007-05-13
This is a great set of recordings for the money, the only problem was I've had to clean some of the CD's before they played correctly.
classical music for the unitiated.......2007-04-01
This set is a good way to start listening to classical music. It's very well produced and easy to listen to. I purchased it to use as part of my world history high school class. It would have been nice to have some bio information on the composers. However, the product is exactly as advertised and good value for the money. The students were intrigued by how many of the excerpts they had heard before.
Some little gems there that I had forgotten!.......2007-03-30
Although I studied classical music at school, I had all but forgotten it until I bought this set. I heard several tracks I haven't heard for over 30 years, and I had been humming Brahms's 'Hungarian Dance no. 5' for years without ever knowing what it was and it was on the disc, so that was nice.
I found it to be a very good selection overall, but I felt too much had already been heard on TV, which of course is what lots of newcomers to classical music might appreciate. I managed to find about 2 hours of tracks that I wanted to keep, which works out quite expensive per disc, but I did find some wonderful music I had completely forgotten about, so it was worth it. All in all, it represents good value, and I have only knocked one star off as so much of it had been used in adverts.
It is definitely a good introduction to classical music, and it has made me want to listen to more of it, so I don't regret this 'expensive' purchase one bit!

A very helpful collection.......2007-03-24
I define this set as an excellent way to find out who you like, and who you don't, among 20 of the important composers. It opens the door to purchasing more complete pieces by composers you do like, and can save a lot of time and money in the process.
To criticize the set for not containing more composers, or more than just snippets of those who are in the set, is missing the point: it is a helpful introduction to finding your way in the huge maze of classical music. It succeeds admirably in this.
Sound quality is uniformly very good on an audiophile system.
Highly recommended.
Excellent!.......2007-03-08
A great way to start a classical music collection. It's nice to have a full CD of each composer. It makes it easy to keep track of selections/composers I already have and what composers I still need to puchase to complete my collection.

Great Classic Hawaiian Music.......2006-11-10
I purchased the Volume 2, a long time ago and recently found Volume 1 here on Amazon. Great purchase, no vocals. If you're looking for great classic hawaiian music look no further, if you're looking for some of the more modern hawaiian music try Keali'i Reichel, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, Daniel Ho, etc.
Hawaiian Music.......2004-11-04
This is one of the best instrumental dvd's I have heard. Listen if you want to hear excellent Hawaian music.

Kidd Squidd from Oracle, Arizona
It's funny how some "collectors" or "music conosieurs" <(sp?) get
their shorts in a bind when they smell somethin"phony".They're
dyin' to tell the world about the "real thing" & how much they
know about it. I know, because I've been guilty of the "snob
disease" from time to time. I probably know more about the music
of 20th century pop culture than most people on earth. But I've
come to realize(I'm 56) that there's a lot of ways to judge music,
and just because you know a lot about the history of a certain
style of music (Hawaiian, f'rinstance), and have a huge collection
of rare records, doesn't mean that a lighthearted & fun
approach to said music (New Hawaiian Band) can't be a lot of fun.
It's so important to have a sense of wonder and humor about it
all. Music is a gift to us all from a higher source (God? Aliens?
the ghost of Slim Gaillard's Great Great Grandpappy?...), and we
should enjoy it and cherish it on ALL levels, including the
lightheated, frivolous level. Then you'll find The New Hawaiian
Band to be quite a fun ride. Aloha, you Sonic Dreamerz!
Love ya, Baby! Kidd Squidd, DJ, Musicologist, Lover Of Life.
Only for tourists.......2003-02-27
Just looking at the titles of the songs on this CD tells you that this is not REAL Hawaiian music. Oh, the music is nice and great for background. But if you're serious about Hawaiian music, Hawaii indigenous culture, both 'historical' and modern, then look elsewhere. There ARE artists who perform REAL Hawaiian music, and sing in Hawaiian. YOu can get 'historical' music, there is an excellent 2-CD set from the U-Hawaii. The Maui Historical Society just across from the Banyon tree in Lahaina carries modern REAL Hawaiian music, the [local store] in Kahulaui also offers great choices. The Bishop Museum in Honolulu has some good CDs too. For modern music, look up Amy Gilliom or the slack key guitar masters, or Keola Beamer... Amazon has them listed.
Classic Hawaiian.......2003-02-19
Bought this for my wife. Now she can't get it out of my CD player. Classic Hawaiian music. Sitting on your deck out back at night with a tropical drink in hand brings back FLOODS of memories of numerous Hawaiian vacations. This makes me want to go back!!

Interested oboe player.......2007-05-13
It is a fine collection of oboe pieces, and I really enjoy listening to them. The only complaint I have is that the case was broken when it got here (I'm not sure if it was before it was shipped or not).
Oboe cd.......2007-01-11
This cd took a little while to be delivered (a few weeks) but it was in excellent condition. I bought it along with another oboe cd so it could be that one of them was out of stock and they waited for that so that both could be shipped at the same time (which was fine with me).
What a great CD for a Great Price.......2007-01-09
I really love the music on this CD.
I just cant stop listening to this. If you enjoy classical music. You will like this CD and if you would like a introduction to classical music than this is the CD for you.
(If you find that you dont like it, you have not spent a lot of money on it).
Enjoy :-)
Good for orchestra studies.......2005-07-24
The record presents the oboe very well. Price can't be beat too. Oboe music is always enjoyable (well, that's somewhat subjective, of course, but if you like oboe, you'll like this collection).
Just a small caution: this is a study aid sort of thing. I find listening to fragments of music -- frequently very familiar music -- somewhat distressful because of this coitus interruptus sorta feeling, kind of like when in the middle of Watermusik the Dying Swan piece suddenly heaves into sight.
In other words, this is a perfect CD for teaching kids the orchestra, but if you simply want some oboe music for pleasure, then I'd recommend to pick something else; for example "The Handel Collection" (a pretty old record), by The City of London Sinfonia (cond. John Rutter), 1990 American Gramaphone Records -- it is a collection too, but not excerpts, pieces are played fully, and the performance is sometimes better. It's just one example; I have it handy so I've mentioned it, that's all. I don't like listening to excerpts, that's what I'm trying to say. But I'm not saying this CD's bad, it's very good for orchestra studies.
Excellent.......2004-06-15
I really enjoyed this! It was really great for all oboe and classical music lovers! Very Very Nice!

The term "Fourth World" has often been used to describe various ethno-electronic compositions. Joining trumpeter Jon Hassell in different combinations on Possible Musics are coproducer and synthesist Brian Eno and percussionists Nana Vasconcelos and Ayibe Dieng, among others. Hassell has found a unique way to summon a lush, otherworldly sound from his trumpet, applying the Indian vocal techniques he learned from Pandit Pran Nath to the way he plays his instrument. On Possible Musics, he mixes his ethereal brass sounds with hand percussion, bass, analog synths, Eno's trademark studio treatments, and the occasional looped trumpet or keyboard riff. The hypnotic fusion of Indian and African aesthetics creates a dreamy brand of otherworldly world music that, despite the electronic influences swirling around it, maintains a strongly organic feel. This classic recording predated all of the ethnoambient music that proliferated throughout the last decade, but unlike many of those efforts, it still retains a strong sense of identity. --Bryan Reesman

Far Ahead Of Its' Time.......2006-09-18
The best of the Jon Hassell I've heard, and among the best Eno as well - this disc hasn't dated one bit; if anything it was way, way ahead of it's time.
Sparse (as is typical) ambient instrumentation, which in earlier incarnations of ambient music was less techno-oriented, and more drawn from world, jazz and experimental/classical sources; here the prophet synth, Hassell's flugelhorn, Eno's loops and textures and the layered rhythms (somewhat processed and submerged into the mix) are the attractions.
About the only comparison I could make, aside from their own work, would be certain bits of early 1970s Miles Davis, where some similar electronic processing of trumpets (over multi-layered percussion) was happening.
In any case, this is a very unique and extraordinary disc.
-David Alston
One of his best.......2005-07-14
It's unusual and it won't appeal to everyone - check descriptions below. I just want to add that if you appreciate the sounds on this album, you will also enjoy "Aka/Darbari/Java" and "Power Spot" ... similar mood and instrumentation.
Unexpected Masterpiece.......2005-04-06
I bought this as an LP just on a lark back in the middle '80s, I knew nothing about the musicians at the time -- but one listen to that LP blew me away, I had never heard anything like that before, it was truly the first of its kind in terms of ambient sound and musical sophistication and imagination. Hassell and Eno became two big discoveries for me thanks to this "Possible Musics" album (I was drawn by the title, that's what made me pick it up).
Beautiful, Chilling, Subliminal Psychedelia.......2003-04-27
Over a background of sonic loops by Eno and gently pulsating percussives, the wailing, harmonized flugelhorn of Jon Hassel brings to mind some kind of animal transforming into a human. The effect produced by this semi-ambient collection of instrumentals may seem strange and alien to western ears at first, but upon repeated listenings becomes sensually soothing, and works both in a capacity of background or meditation music to get lost in. Hassel's unique style emphasizes both the importance of notes and breath sounds, and truly gives his instrument a life of its own.
Fourth World Vol 1 (where are the others???) treads a line between jazz, ambent and eastern devotional music, finding its own niche in the course of listening. Of special note is the final track, "Charm (over Burundi Cloud)", clocking in at 21:29 and could have been longer if not for the limitations of vinyl production at the time of the original's release. One wonders if the original sessions of Possible Musics could be made available ...... my only criticism of this package being that it seems like more of a sampler, a teasing taste, of all that it could be.
* solo *
Those Congas!.......2003-01-30
This is one of the more enjoyable Eno collaborations from the late sventies / early eighties period, and I think the reason is that the focus isn't on Eno, it's on Hassel. A lot of Eno's coauthored albums sound like Eno with guest musicians, but this one is different. Hassel is a great trance composer; he would have been a good DJ nowadays.
This record features a bizarre (yet pleasant) combination of styles: there are of course the indian influences, but there are also traces of Terry Rily (in the looped keyboards) and Brian's contemporary work with David Byrne. The instrumentation is sparse: Two Congas, Trumpet, Prophet V synthesizer, and Bass Guitar, but these colors are blended superbly to form some great sound paintings. I wish there were more records that use the Prophet V like this one does.
And the drumming - I have never heard such exquisite Conga work anywhere.
One warning: Hassel's style might grate on some people's ears, as it does with mine, but it can be handled in small doses. But the 22-minute-long song at the end of the record can get annoying in some places. If you have heard Hassel before and like it, you'll like this record, but if you're not sure, well, you were forewarned.

This Album ROCKS!!!.......2005-05-10
I don't usually listen to instrumentals, but when I heard this cd from my sister, i was curious and just fell in love with this that I just had to find it myself. Anyone who needs a varitey of genres that are just as good as the last on the album, This one is for you. No ifs ands or buts about it.
Don't waste your time reading reviews - just get it.......2004-11-01
3 words - BUY THIS CD. Its quite possibly the greatest guitar album of all time..well, its up there with Rising Force, IMO. It has something in there for every amateur guitarist out there. If you're just picking up the guitar, that intro on the first song will haunt you till you master it. You won't find these tracks anywhere else, even the Leviathan track is a "special edit" just for this CD. Anyways, I feel stupid I'm writing a review for this...bottomline - every guitar player should own this.
Self-indulgent garbage.......2003-04-15
I tried to listen to this several times, but it is BORING! The songs all sound as if they are slight variations of the same theme: "Look how fast I can play". No interesting ideas, just fast, repeated riffs. There are so many talented guitar players out there, I can't imagine why anyone would want to waste their time listening to this cd. The previous reviewers thought it was good - maybe to a pre-pubescent kid with a brand new electric guitar, but to any with even slightly mature taste, this offers nothing but a headache.
Top-notch guitar playing........2000-12-30
Well, everyone is correct by saying this album is AMAZING, but I just wanted to make a little side comment. I saw the release date here at Amazon, and it says 1998... well, that's the "commercial" release date, because this album was recorded and "released" actually in 1993 or 1994, and it was sent as a gift to suscribers of a guitar magazine, I forgot which one. I first heard this album in 1994 and was blown away by it. By the way, on the first song, Reb Beach plays all instruments if I'm not mistaken.
Amazing Guitar Album.......2000-08-21
This album rules. There are so many great guitar players on it. It's also cool because whoever was on it had total creative freedom, so they could play however they wanted to. This album really has everything from metal to funk to blues.
Former Winger, current Dokken guitar player Reb Beach opens the album with Black Magic. This song is pure metal, and Reb's smokin'. This is my favorite song on the album. Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi is next performing Mr. Sambo. It also features Bon Jovi drummer Tico Torres and bass player Hugh McDonald. It is another metal song. It really shows Richie's talent. Next up is Yngwie Malmsteen. Every serious guitar player knows he's amazing so there's no need for me to elaborate on this song. Let me just say that you won't be disappointed. Next up is Paul Gilbert of Racer X and Mr. Big. His playing is amazing. The song I Understand Completely is a primarily acoustic but is filled with sound effects and electric overtones. At the end of the song he comes in full electric. Paul Gilbert's great because he plays with amazing speed and precision. Zakk Wylde does something totally unexpected for his song, Farm Fiddlin'. Being Ozzy's former guitar player and fromntman for the ultra heavy Black Label Society you expect a country intro for his song on this album but that's exactly what you get. He starts off with a lightning speed country piece before kicking into the metal style that he's known for. He like pretty much everyone else on the album plays with amazing speed. This song is also great because it shows all of his influences. In the middle of the song it goes into this whole blues piece before kicking back into metal which ends the song. Next up is Nuno Bettancourt former Extreme guitar player. His song Bumble Bee (Crash Landing) is excellent. He is an amazing guitar player. His playing on this song is no exception. It is however very short. Alex Skolnick is up next. He is the former guitar player in Testament and Savatage. He is also a very underrated guitar player. On Filet of Soul he serves up a very funky type song. It also features Les Claypool of Primus on bass. He is amazing as usual. The middle of the song slows down to display Alex's style. It also shows what a great guitarist he really is. Next up is former Poison current Mr. Big guitarist Richie Kotzen. His song Chype Fluxx shows his talent as a musician because he played all of the instruments on it. The song is successful in showing his guitar playing skill as well as his bass playing which sounds pretty decent. Next up is bluesman Albert Collins. His song "Blues for Stevie" is a tribute to the late master Stevie Ray Vaughan. It features amazing blues playing in the style of Stevie. Next up is former Allman Brothers Band guitar player current Gov't Mule frontman Warren Haynes and Allman Brothers guitar player Dickey Betts. The song Willie and Poor Bob is very different, if I had to describe it I'd say it was country blues. It features impressive slide and harmonica work. Next up is David Bowie's sidekick Reeves Gabrels. His song "Why Do I Feel Like I'm Bleeding" is an excellent song. It shows that he can play fast as well as slow. The song is very hard to describe. There is a drum machine that starts it off then some slow guitar. It doesn't kick in to the fast playing until about the midlle of the song. This album is great, but I only recommend this to guitar players or serious fans of guitar playing. If you like this album I also have a few suggestions such as Joe Satriani-Crystal Planet, Dokken-Erase the Slate, Back for the Attack, Extreme-Pornograffiti, Yngwie Malmsteen-Rising Force,Trilogy, Ozzy-No Rest for the Wicked, Racer X-Street Lethal, and Steve Vai-Passion and Warfare, Fire Garden, The Ultra Zone, Alien Love Secrets.

Great drone sound.......2003-06-14
The multi layered voices, The Tibetan horns which soud like elephants...this is a piece you listen to when you are in a meditative mood..much like didgerdoo music...trancy.
I have had this on a record , which warped, on tape, which bit the dust and now want it on CD. Its not something you listen to if your entertaining friends. Its a solo journey.
Must have!!!.......2002-12-02
Very rare chant of vajra meditation. Recorded close to 30 years ago. The expericence of bliss & energy can be felt in this CD. Link up w/that holy lama w/in you. & OM out.

Customer Reviews:
Alligator Stomp Vol 1.......2000-03-01
If you like Cajun music or if you are unsure or new to the Cajun music scene, this is a great introduction. I have all 3 volumes and this one is a great cross section of the music Louisanna has to offer. You cannot beat this original, from the soul sector of American music. For years I have listenedto this music and I cannot believe that it has not emerged into mainstream America.I guess if it did, it would be the beginning of the end of a true piece of American Folk Art.
Great Stuff. Fun music for a good time!.......1998-10-17
The Cajun sound is alwasy intriguing as heard in movie soundtracks. However getting the good stuff turns out not to be so easy, in my experience at least. This is the Good Stuff! You put it on and before you know it your body is twitching and bouncing to that great Cajun sound. I've got 4 teenage boys in my house who tend towards the inexcusable travesty of music called rap, and even they start to bob when I put this on (of course, they'd never admit that they actually like it!)
Fun music for all ages. This collection is a GOOD TIME!.......1998-08-24
I highly reccommend this collection of classic Zydeco musicians. A jazz, country, rocking good time. Open your world to the music that comes from the belly of America! Kids love it too. It is music to grow by.
