Cave becomes a true artist.......2006-01-26
I was never a fan of the music that Nick Cave made with The Birthday Party,(though I am basicaly a hard rocker at heart) and had always considered him to be a bit of a phony, until I heard this album. The whole emotional depth of all the songs, and the way in which they are executed by Nick and the band make this album a treasure.Whenever Im feeling low I can put this album on,have a beer and feel like im sitting down with an old friend who understands my pain. Its one of those albums that will never date, kind of like an old earthy peice of wood or a good bottle of wine.I must say that after buying this album I have completely changed my whole view on Nick Cave. No matter what music you are into, I would reccomend giving this a listen, especially if you are feeling hurt over a busted relationship or a marriage. Its very soothing yet it still has a slight edge of defiance about it, and is not in the least bit contrived.(or phony!)
Boatmans Call ~ Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.......2005-03-22
I remember distinctle the first time that I heard a song played nick cave & the bad seeds. It was the summer of 1994 and he recorded his let love in album and I saw the video "do you love me" for the release "let love in". This 1997 release the boatman's call sounds allot like Let love in. Nick Cave is a great lyricist and a decent vocalist. The book-let is very nice and the front cover photo is a photo of Mr. Cave dressed in some black coat with an artistic expression as if he was thinking. The lyrics are written in red ink on black background and the font is the right size that one can read the lyrics and who played on each track and which instruments that were used. I would like to know the brands...but one can not get all and there are much worst booklets out there, believe me.
A love story in disguise.......2001-11-10
A love story, this album combines the deep melancholy vocals of Australian musician Nick Cave with lusty piano and beautiful words. Speaking so poingnantly of love in his signature depressing ways, I was comforted for months by this album. In the song "into my arms" Cave refrains from the conventional love song which touches the listener. The album has a definite jazz feel to it, and is very unlike any of Cave's earlier work. A definite album for fans of Tindersticks or even Leonard Cohen. Fans of this album would also like "No More Shall We Part," Nick's newest release.
