On their 12th release, art-pop act Stereolab float deeper into the post-rock atmosphere. They still draw from Ennio Morricone and Henry Mancini when creating their own fantasy soundtracks, but Sound-Dust lacks the dynamic interplay that invigorated Cobra and Phases Group Play Voltage in the Milky Night. The disc is all easy-listening lounge that's almost too gentle on the ears. There are no urgent sonic experiments, and only three tracks really spark to life: "Spacemoth," "Captain Easychord," and the Kubrick-inspired "Gus and the Mynah Bird." "Easychord" is the catchiest song on the album, containing the CD's most ebullient melody-emitting, warped, country-twanged notes. Beyond that, Stereolab fans should prepare for a very sedate, mature affair. --Jennifer Maerz

Worth your time if you already love Stereolab.........2007-01-23
I have loved Stereolab for many years, and I have been listening to them since high school, for about 10 years now. I first saw them at 16 when they toured with the High Llamas (release of dots And Loops) and have always been a favorite band of mine. In my eyes, quite possibly, the best indie pop band ever, and they always have the best cover artwork, and song titles. This was the last release with original band member, singer/guitar player Mary Hansen. If this was the first album by them that I ever heard I would think it was the one of the best things I have ever heard. 'The Black Arts' is amazing, along with 'Spacemoth', and the two album closers are worth the price of the cd alone, especially 'Suggestion Diabolique' (and the most experimental, my favorite song on the whole album. But of course, my ears have been spoiled by listening to my other favorites like Mars Audiac Quintet, Cobra And Phases.., or Margerine Eclipse even. I have heard this so many times, and I don't question whether its good or not, becuase it is an enjoyable listen for me. However, it is my least favorite Stereolab album, out of 9 others, and it is the most mellow of them all, not as much experimentation as there could be. That does not mean it should be ignored. I wouldn't suggest this is as a proper introduction for the band though. If you are looking to buy one of their albums with more of a rock than pop vibe first, I would suggest Mars Audiac Quintet. If you want one with more of a pop than rock vibe, then maybe you should look into getting Dots and Loops first. Cobra And Phases Groop Played Voltage In The Milky Night is really an all around great album too, one of their very best, I saw them again when they released this album (by the way, they are amazing live.) They have a great mix of albums, they all sound different without losing the trademark sound I have come to love after all these years.
Took me about 3.5 years to finally get it.......2006-01-20
But now I do. I would say there are 9 good songs on this album. For a couple of years I would have said there were 2 good songs on here, Naught More Terrific than Man and Nothing to do with Me.
But really listening to this, I just have to shake my head at the sheer genius of Tim Gane. It really is a shame that such crap is on the top 40 these days when there is so much better out there. Like this.
Great music is still being produced folks. It is just much more difficult to find than in the 1970's where great songs made the radio.
In my opinion, the output of Stereolab in 1996-2001 ranks right up there with any rock group in the last 35 years. Bar none. It is just really too bad that nobody has heard of this great group.
You may get this and scratch your head wondering about the hype. It may take years to really appreciate this album. I have to tell you...when I listen to this group, I don't feel like playing guitar because I realize I will never posses the sheer genius that is Tim Gane.
Worth the effort it might take.......2005-06-16
Ever have one of those albums?
An album where you spin it a few times and a few songs might sink-in, but the majority seem wrapped in gauze? Then-- ONE DAY -- it hits you, the genius behind the songs, the hidden melodies, the amazing musicianship?
That was my experience with this album. It took 2 years of (very) sporadic listenings to suddenly be hit in the head with just how flat-out AMAZING this album is. A few songs are easy and accessible (ie. "Captain Easychord"), while others may take a few listens to *really* appreciate--- but it's worth the effort. (as a comparison, I found "Margerine Eclipse" very easy to get-into, while it took a while for "Dots & Loops" and "Cobra & Phases" to really sink-in).
Very highly recommended, once it hits you, it will stay with you and grow-stronger with repeat-listens.
A Must for Sereolabers.......2005-03-08
Not sure what some of the reviewer's here are talking about. This is simply put, a fantastic album. If you consider yourself one of those who can see the rich brilliance of stereolab's offerings throughout the years, then you've got to get it. It flows, it's moody, funky, and lovely.
Baby Lulu is currently my fav, but they're all complex and original enough that it takes me a while to realize each songs awesomeness. Newbies can try Emperor Tk or Dots and Loops, but real fans shouldn't miss this.
Superb album ---my favorite along with Margerine Eclipse.......2005-02-27
This album has some gorgeous music. I have 6 of Stereolab's albums, and I love this one and Margerine Eclipse the best. The songs just flow and sway into one another. I am surprised anyone would have a criticism of this album and think it boring. It is anything but that! #3 is a personal favorite!

Let God be your guide........2007-07-12
In 1966, Buck Owens released his first gospel album. Except for the fact that songs are spiritual, the music sounds about the same as the music on Buck's other albums of the time period. The music is played by Buck's regular backing group, the Buckaroos. Unlike other singers who added organs or choirs to their gospel records, Buck kept his sound intact. The songs were recorded in late 1965, except for two songs that were recorded much earlier in 1961. The songs are all originals, with most of them being written or co-written by Buck (Buck's mother wrote three of the songs with him). The songs are all good, with "Dust on Mother's Bible" being the obvious standout. Buck's fans will enjoy this album, especially if they are religious.
Maybe the BEST Buck album.......2004-11-05
In terms of sheer consistency and quality of songs, Dust On Mother's Bible might be the best Buck and the Buckaroos album. I'm not a religious person, but these songs are moving and entertaining at the same time. Pick this one up regardless of your beliefs. Honky Tonk Saviors would have been another appropriate title with multiple meanings!
+1/2 -- Bakersfield praises the Lord.......2004-01-06
The bulk of this album was recorded at the end of 1965, right in the middle of Owens' phenomenal run of Bakersfield Sound recordings. The albums "I've Got a Tiger By the Tail" and "Christmas With Buck Owens" were lighting up the charts, and the Buckaroos triumphant Carnegie Hall concert was just ahead in 1966. This timing produced twelve original songs of faith that were written and recorded to the band's high-powered twang, rather than being adaptations of the band to a more traditional gospel sound.
From the opening bars of "Pray Every Day," it's clear that the joyful sound of the Buckaroos' hits was perfectly suited to stories of prayer, bible and family. Owens sings with the full-throated honky-tonk conviction of Hank Williams', but with harmonies (either his own, or those of Don Rich) mindful of the Louvin Brothers. Add the twang of Telecasters and pedal steel, and you have the soundtrack to Bakersfield's salvation.
Owens co-wrote many of the album's songs with the legendary Red Simpson; he also co-wrote a pair of tunes, "Bring it to Jesus" and "Eternal Vacation," with his mother, Macie. The album's title tune, along with "I'll Go to Church Again with Momma," recall Macie's own mother, Mary Myrtle, and reflect on the supportive family from which Owens' career sprang. The album is a Bakersfield hymnal of waltzes ("Jesus Saved Me" "All the Way With Jesus"), two-steppers ("Would You Be Ready?" "Satan's Gotta Get Along Without Me"), and fiddle-and-steel weepers ("Dust on Mother's Bible"). Every one of them is stamped through-and-through with the classic Buckaroos sound.
For reasons unknown, this album was not released with the bulk of Sundazed's reissues in the late `90s. Wrong finally righted, it's time for fans to rejoice and enjoy this essential entry in the Buck Owens catalog.
4-1/2 stars, if allowed fractional ratings.

When the "Queen of Country Music" emerged with this gorgeous gospel album in 1959, her ticket was already written. "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels," her breakthrough 1952 single, remains one of the most significant recordings in country-music history. Wells followed that No. 1 smash with a string of top 10 hits throughout the 1950s, and Decca rewarded her with a lifetime contract in 1959. Why this Wells gem was reissued by MCA (at a super-budget price, no less) while the rest of her catalog languishes is anyone's guess, but who's complaining? Wells's austere and poised delivery is a godsend when compared to the pretentious, overwrought singing that too often dominates modern gospel music. The pure-as-snow arrangements range from fiddle-and-steel to organ-and-chorus, but attention is always focused on Wells's pristine voice. --Marc Greilsamer

REPENT! (and listen).......2004-12-19
The more I listen to Kitty, the more I'm convinced that she really is the "Queen of Country". Each track here is beautiful music, not just the well-known title track. This reviewer favored "I Dreamed I Searched Heaven for You" and the oft-recorded "Lonesome Valley" which the Kingston Trio converted to "The Reverend Mister Black". Other listeners will have their own choices. What truly struck me is that Kitty must truely believe in what she recorded here. I can visualize other country folks doing a few Gospel tracks and then tearing up the town. Kitty probably went home to her husband and kids. It's a shame that this collection is out of print. Let's be grateful that amazon has provided a marketplace for used CDs to circulate. Let's hope that either MCA or Decca, with whom Kitty has a lifetime contract, reissues "Dust on the Bible" soon.
Gut-wrenching Country and Bluegrass Gospel.......2000-09-05
Two years ago, I purchased this as a casette from a truck stop on a drive from Denver, Colorado to Paducah, Kentucky. I played it in the jeep so much that I wore it out and have been unable to find a new copy, so get the CD version. I love blue grass gospel and this is great to sing with or to on the way to choir practice or anywhere. My best friend and I listened to the cut, "We buried Her Beneath The Willows" together and ended up in tears of collected grief for our beloved mothers and a sister taken by breast cancer. Singing and crying has helped me through a lot of life's losses. Every song is a classic. A must-have for bluegrass gospel fans.
One of the quintessential country and gospel albums ever.......2000-02-16
This collection of classic country gospel music is full of the classic sounds that made Kitty famous and inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame yet none of these tracks went into the Top 40: the voice, the instrumentation and the Nashville Sound production. The CD is priced right and is a must have for fans of pure country and pure gospel music, even if you are only looking for the title track. Another thing that makes it great, as described in another Amazon.com review, is that it is straightforward. Every song on this collection, 12 in all, are as great as any of your favorite hymns. The melody and the chorus of "Lonesome Valley" (which is on this album) were also used in the Kingston Trio's hit "Reverend Mr. Black" which is one of their best songs.
This CD is out of print, but you can get this album in its entirety plus a lot more on the Queen of Country Music Bear Family boxed set.
Pure Gosel, Pure Country, by a pure singing voice........1998-08-21
Kitty brings a clean sound uncluttered by the "gimmicks" that characterize so many of the male and female gospel singers these days. If you want to hear pure, clean, country gospel singing, this is a must. She is a straightforward singer accompanied by a solid band. The accoustic guitar player must have a clock in his head, for his timing is flawless. No tricks, no surprises unless it is pure enjoyment that you are looking for. And, if you happen to be a Christian, the music will minister to you.

Album Description
Amid the continually changing musical landscape of American music, there has been one constant: the presence of the "singer/songwriter" - an artist who can tell a poignant story through his music with a distinct point of view. Little Dog Records artist Cisco carries on this great American tradition with his new album 7740 Valmont St. Cisco proves himself to be one of those rare artists who can interweave vivid, emotional "pictures" with distinctly melodic songs.
Customer Reviews:
Another notch on the Bakersfield Belt.......2005-04-28
Cisco is a great mixture of blues, gospel, and country a la Rod Stewart. Lost Broke or Sold is a fantastic song that catches the ear. If you like your rock and/or country music a little raw and honest, Cisco is your best bet. Bakersfield is country music's best kept secret.
Dylan lyrics/Rod Stewart vocals.......2004-10-26
7740 Valmont Street is an album that paints images with it's Dylan-esque lyrics. Cisco's vocals on this album remind one of a young Rod Stewart. The 10 song album is entirely original material and covers the range of love gone wrong and its aftermath in Lost, Broke or Sold to a Hank Williams feel to The Other Side. One of the most touching songs is Say a Prayer, which features the late Jeff Roberts on bass. Musicians playing on the album include Cisco, Pete Anderson & Skip Edwards. Pete Anderson was also the arranger and producer for this gem from Little Dog Records.
Wow, sooo good!.......2004-08-10
According to emusic.com, this is alternative country produced by Mike Ness (Social Distortion) that sounds traditional like Johnny cash, yet new, like Dwight Yokam. If that still leaves you guessing, I guess you'll have to buy the album or subscribe to emusic.com where you can download this album as well as one not available on this site.
Well, I love what I've heard from this guy so far, but I can't find anything about himm on the web, not even an official website. He needs better representation on Amazon and on the web in general.
Alt-country, or altogether nuts?.......2004-07-15
This guy should be better representated in this sites music area. There are many artists with this name, but this fellow is quite the piece of work. He's an outlaw roots rockin, Bakersfield/country crooner with more bad habits than a sociopathic stripper. Seriously though, he's not that bad of a guy. He's just a raw, and more importantly real alt-country dude who's reputation in and around the music world is rapidly gaining notoriety. His debut, "Pink Motel" was a classic right off the bat. This one, produced by the well-known Peter Anderson is a little more subdued, but just as effective. It just came out, and already it seems like it'll be tough to buy. If you can't pick it up here, just go to milesofmusic.com; they love him in California. Hopefully more folks will know about this Cisco in the near future. Unique to say the least.

Best Undergraound Rapper From Atlanta. PERIOD........2007-03-08
Reality Flow is the debut CD from Ishues a member of the Athens based Herb and Skills hip-hop crew. I first heard about these guys I got a free CD at Atlanta's Music Midtown, and when I learned that the premiere MC of the group was dropping an album I knew I had to cop it.
The Tracks:
1. Intro (4.5/5) - The intro to the tape is pretty fire. It opens off with a Ishues spitting about what he's gonna do "My flow is based on reality/I flow for those that work for a salary/ For ladies who are trying to work of calories/This actual, factual/It's all biographical/Telling you how it is out hear I'm not asking you." From the albums inception he lays down that the listener can expect pure unadulterated hip-hop. He demonstrates his lyrical fortitude in the next couple of bars such as "There ain't nobody stoppin' this/bring forth the apocalypse/ it's game time/flame-ryhmes spitting threw my esophagus." (If you didn't notice he's speaking about his flow and what he plans to do while naming tracks on the album. While the first track is lyrically strong it suffers from what I find to be a pretty bland beat.
2. apocalypse(3.5/5) - This song bears shades of the Wu influence. There are lots of post cryptic apocalyptic lyrics used as a complex way of explaining how Ishues plans on the taking over wack MCs and bring about their doom day. While I appreciate the scientific and complex verbiage at times it comes off as cumbersome and the beat is pretty bland as well. The devil voice in the background that plays over the hook is also quite annoying at times. Overall I would say that this song is skippable, though the lyrics make it worth hearing at least once.
3. game time (5/5)- Now this is what I've been talking about. I'm not sure who produced this track but the beat in this song is among one of the strongest on the album in my opinion. Additionally the song boasts a strong and infectious chorus ("It's game time get your game face on"), which would lend itself to a number of more commercial products if it were to ever be heard by a savy promoter. Lyrically the song also shines. Ishues mixes in clever boasting lines that complexly rhyme "Run through ya whole team/ None of y'all can hold me/Flows leaving broke teeth/Nosebleeds and cold feet", have clever allusions "Softly I'm killin' 'em/ Like Lauryn's first love song/ Hold on to somethin' cause I'm blowin' like a snowstorm", or have a conscious edge "I rock for the children/Tryin' to fill the same shoes that Malcolm was killed in/Rhyme revolution to find a solution/To why rappers try to spit mindless pollution". And this is all in the first verse. This song is just damn good.
4. clear a space (5/5) - This is just a burner anthem. I like to think of this song as something you would play to just bounce your head to or to get pumped up. And with lines like "A master in this game/ Check mating a king with a rook piece" or "The picture is vivid like and X-Box/ Make you piss in your pants and try to cover the wet spots/Can't win on your best day/ You'll never ever ever catch me/I'm always on the grind/ I never take off for rest days" It's hard to not see how raw this song is. The beat is equally as infectious as the chorus and the lyrics.
5. y'all Don't Hear Me (4/5) - for a song called "y'all don't hear me" Ishues doesn't really say much on this song. It's another burner anthem mostly for wilin' out to or partying to, but not much deepness is here. Ishues does really rip the track and the beat is pretty banging, but other than that the song doesn't really offer any "oh snap" lines and the lyrics are the self agrandizing fair that ther previous songs have.
6. ice (4/5) - This is a story telling song. In it Ishues talks from the prospective of "ice" (e.g. jewelry/ diamonds). Rather than one story, each verse represents a different story. While it does provide varying perspectives as to why people should not value "ice" as much as they do, the narrative would have been much stronger in my opinion if the story had followed the same "ice" from owner to owner or if it just had been descriptive of one incident. Overall though the song is good.
7. fastlane Part 1 (4/5) - This is another story song. It follows nicely from ice, and in fact is a bit of a continuation of the song. My gripe with this song is that I immediately want to compare it to the "Fastlane" track on the Herb and Skills debut album "The Gathering". That song was more powerful in terms of the overall narrative and the lyrical presentation. While this does provide a somewhat clear story, it is not nearly as vivid as the scenarios in "Fastlane" (though the same MC wrote and raps on both tracks).
8. them peoples (3/5) - This is a strange song. It just seems out of place. It isn't a story and it isn't necessarily a warning call to people who may be living the street life. It's more of a strange paranoid song about police and FBI investigation. It doesn't really seem to have any base or moral. Lyrically the song is perhaps the weakest in the album. The beat is good and mellow, but it doesn't really fit the mood of the lyrics.
9. stop bitin (3.5/5) - The song is about MCs that bite other MCs styles and flows. It's got a couple of good punch lines, and the base of the beat is pretty grimey but other than that the song doesn't really stand out. It also has one of the few guest appearances on the album. Overall the song is OK, but not amazing.
10. hip-hop (3.5/5) - Here's the thing Ishues' flow and the beat on this song are not as fluid or catchy as on the other tracks. However this is a standout track for the voracity of his lyrical acumen. On the one hand he talks about the acts that have influenced his style and what he thinks represent hip-hop "You can tell I was influenced by KRS/And Mos Def and all the rest/That did it for the love and respect/Not just to get a check",and his beef with the current state of the hip-hop game "I get upset when I hear rappers spittin' that garbage/Talib Kweli said it best, said they spittin' half-hearted/Half-artist, half-murderer/Go up to the block where you supposed to be from/ How come ain't nobody ever heard of ya"
11.out My Pockets (4.5/5) - with this song Ishues spits nothing but knowledge of this song opening with "This is America land of the free and home of the brave/Stolen from natives and built on the backbones of slaves/Where the ghetto is getting poorer/So dope, we pettle wars/Cause politicians is rich and they trying to do nothing for us". He addresses politics and the media and his distrust of both "Plotting my next move/Flooded with useless information/ On every station/Got me watching less tube/ Cause the news is telling half the truth/While the government taxes you/A line is drawn/ It's right and wrong/ You have to choose." This song is not just nihilistic. The last verse represents the message of the song. Ishues through his music is meant to speak for the disenfranchised - and not just black - but all people who gotten the right idea. It's an angry but progressive at the same time.
12. what Do You See (5/5) - This song is just beautiful. Musically it has a great beat and the vocals that play over the hook Ishues spits is rather captivating. The song lyrically just addresses the perception of life and explorers with a subtly the topics that where brought up in "out My Pockets". Is everything going to hell, or is there hope. What role can music play? Writing down the bars just wouldn't do justice to the way these questions are presented and addressed in the song. Definitely one of the strongest tracks on the album.
13. read Between the Lines (3/5) - This song screams Ras Kass to me. In fact a lot of the sentiments in the song are similar "Nature of the Threat". Aside from that, the song is suffers from a pretty weak beat and tiring vocals. And at over 6 min+ is it one of the longest tracks on the album and doesn't really do much to elevate consciousness or thought in the same way the Kass track did. That is not to say it is weak, but it is not one of the stronger tracks on the album.
14. higher powers (3/5) - This is another song that seems out of place. On the one hand Ishues entreats listeners to engage in a revolution against a lot of the problems going on in the world in previous tracks, and then in this song he proclaims that "everything is controlled by higher powers/ don't matter if you don't like it/ there's no way that we can fight it". I understand the message that he is trying to send about God, but at the same time it strikes me as advocating nihilism and non-action, which is contradictory. The hook is also pretty weak and the beat is nothing impressive. Also the narrative structure of the song isn't particularly compelling, and neither are the lyrics.
15. dear father (3.5/5)- This is a really personal song to his father. Typically I don't really appreciate songs that are this personal unless they are positive (Dear Momma by Tupac for example). But I understand that music is about expressive, and it does have some takeaways about fatherhood. The hook is a bit grating though the beat is nice.
16. feel My Pain (3/5) - Another personal song about the struggles and the life that Ishues has lived. The hook however is probably the worst on the album (it is just really annoying to me). This song strikes me as less an exploration of the "pain and struggles" that Ishues has endured, as it is a whiny recollection of different things that have happened to him. That alone makes it hard to feel.
17. better day (5/5) - This song is by FAR the BEST track on the album. It strikes me with shades of "Be Allright" by Foreign Exchange, Smile by Scarface and Tupac, or "I Can" by Nas. It features musings about the followings one's own path, rejecting complacency, and the general joys that exist even in the midst of day to day hardships. This song is just beautiful from the hook and beat to the lyrics and message. Definitely a must listen.
18. make It Happen (4/5) - This song strikes me as more of an outro than and ending track (especially given how beautiful better day is). It's a good listen with a bangin' beat and pretty good lyrics. They are however a mixed bag of an inciting anthem and personal musings. It's not a bad song, but it isn't strong enough for me to consider it a proper ending to the album
