"Sleepwalk is a frustrating journey, like walking blindfolded through a room constantly bumping into unknown objects scattered across the floor. Improvisations with guitar and toy instruments, fieldrecordings of the wildlife of an urban river in the north of Sweden, some stolen sounds from records, MDs and CDs, controlled feedback, *silence* and noise makes up the sources of this album, all fragmented and processed on the hard-drive of Ronnie Sundin (electronic sound artist from Sweden who started working with music/sound more than ten years ago but surfaced on disc for the first time only four years ago) to create small soundevents surrounded with liberal use of *silence*. Sleepwalk is a soundtrack to a dream, or rather the dreamlike state in between wake and dreaming. All good music defies categorisation but points of reference might be composers like RLW or Bernhard Guenter who takes great care of detail, structure and restraint an does not impose things on the listener, instead slowly dragging them in. This album was recorded during 1999 and 2000 at the Academies of art in Trondheim, Norway and in Umea, Sweden."

Got me started in Jazzy stuff.......2006-05-06

I've been a guitar player for 25 years. About 22 years ago I picked up this album. No idea why. It wasn't me. I was a rocker. Anyhow, this album led me into jazz guitar. Larry is an awesome player. Did you see who else plays on this? Jeff Pocaro on drums. Great music. This is a slow tempo CD. It's a chill out kind of thing. His new CD is a rocker though. But if your looking at good lad back music and some nice playing this is it. It's not going to rip or anything though. He's not a flashy guy. Conservative but right on the money and you can tell he bleeds studio work.

This must be a reissue or something if only two people wrote reviews. And one of them wasn't impressed! Maybe it's not Carlton's most rockin', but it's not typical instrumental slap-together doggerel, either. It's a "smooth jazz" analog for Coltrane's "Ballads" - a rare virtuoso in a mellow mood. And to be fair, the album is upfront about being downtempo; it's called "Sleepwalk."

I have the live CD Last Nite which is great. So I bought this one only to find that it was not that inspiring. Good technical skills, but the music didn't grab me. I'm still a fan but I made a mistake.

A refreshingly beautiful album.......2004-01-05

Upon your first listen through this album, you may fear that Mark Mitchell is setting out to fulfill the title of this record by means of softened sounds/voices and dreamlike melodies. But this album is far from a sleeping aid (although it's usefulness as such should not be discredited).

Mark Mitchell, the man behind Clue to Kalo is a master of composition. Performing none of the instruments on the album himself, Mark makes use of his talent of having an ear for rhythem and musical beauty to create on of the most refreshingly pleasant albums of the year.

Wether or not Mitchell is a fan of Rjyan Kidwell is debatable, but the similarities are powerful. But where Kidwell focuses on a more funky and dance-like feel, Mitchell opts for the more relaxed and dreamlike. No where is this more noticable than on 'within reach of my own arms', a track where a rather upbeat and funky song slides into an almost lullabye-like beauty and simplicity.

In a time dominated by Punk Rock and Gangsta Rap, Clue to Kalo's 'Come here when you sleepwalk' is a reminder that music can be far more than a way to get parties started; It can also be the better part of an hour enjoying the graceful and beautiful art of composition.

cool music.......2003-03-11

this is cool melodic folk/electronic music....beautiful melodies, hip-hop style beats....Some songs intrumental while others have soft beautiful vocals. Cd should appeal to fans of Badly Drawn Boy, Sea and Cake, Tortoise and maybe even Boards of Canada.

interesting, as always.......2002-04-09

As a teaser for the new album [Beautysleep], one could think there would be a better track to pick than "The Storm," like "The Wave" or The Night You Saved My Life", but this about the bonus tracks, isn't it?

"After Your Party" is a nice little waltz about a girl waiting for some man who "might" drop by after his own party and reflecting on expectations and the stories we tell ourselves. "Days of Grace" is a nice upbeat piece, a shameful ommission from the album or a song that could have been a non album single itself, even if it is a little twangy and might have needed a little tweeking for radio play. "Last Rain" also would have fit the album very nicely, a more relaxed, floating song.

If you're a Donelly fanatic you're going to buy it anyway. Is it worth the price? Probably.

Alternative Country?.......2002-01-25

As we age, our tastes can change. I don't feel like "rocking out" as often as I used to. Some of my peers have lost interest in music and have wound up listening to oldies compilations and background music. As an aging punk and new wave rocker, I enjoyed much of the so-called alternative movement. I require fresh, honest music with an edge. I could never "sell out" and spend my time listening to oldies, easy listening, or the fluff and tripe that passes for modern country music. I am a huge Belly and Tanya Donelly fan and some of those songs are my all time favorite rockers. Slow Dog, Seal My Fate, Pretty Deep, and so many more are like modern rock classics to me. My favorite Tanya song is The Bees, live version. The songs on Beautysleep move me much like The Bees does. Subtle pedal steel guitars, piano, and other alternative country flourishes are the obvious additions to Tanya's more mature, and richer, artistic palette. Tanya, along with Frank Black and Jay Farrar, gives me the best hope of a plentiful supply of fresh, intelligent, emotional, honest, and real music as I mature. Oh yeah, she still rocks, too.

Although I miss the pop fizzy sounds of her previous work,(especially her belly years) her song writing is stronger than ever and her ability to write songs that float through your brain all day and leave a smile on your face keeps me buying everything she puts out.
