Retro
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Although they weren't as essential to the development of modern industrial music as, say, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, or Front 242, Germany's KMFDM have pretty much been around since the inception of the genre. In their infant days they may have been clanging on metal pipes like country mates Einstürzende Neubauten and using animal intestines as stage props, but through the years they've mastered the art of guitar-augmented industrial dance music, experimented with thrash metal, and become one of the few modern industrial acts to still create original, cathartic music with electronics. For the uninitiated, Retro is a nice introduction, mixing the razor-edged riffing of KMFDM's latter-day discs Xtort, Nihil, and Angst with the earlier drum-machine barrages of UAIOE and What Do You Know, Deutschland? --Jon Wiederhorn --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

On Breakfast in Bed, her first release on Time Life Records (yes, that Time Life) Joan Osborne tackles a crop of hand-picked soul and R&B favorites with equal parts sass and sensitivity. Long an underappreciated artist, Osborne is a performer with the wisdom to exercise vocal restraint for an effect that's more Dusty Springfield than Christina Aguilera. Her fine previous outing interpreting soul standards was aptly titled How Sweet It Is, and witness her contribution to the terrific 2002 film Standing in the Shadows of Motown, where Osborne's astute readings of "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted" and "Heatwave" outshone performers like Ben Harper and Gerald Levert (happily, both songs are included here). The title track and Hall and Oates' "Sara Smile" are both canny choices that play to her strengths in delivering credible blue-eyed soul, and six new Osborne-penned songs fit neatly into the record. If her compositions pale a bit next to the classics she covers (with the sultry and slithery exception of the excellent "Eliminate the Night"), give Osborne credit for bravely placing herself side-by-side with songwriting luminaries like Holland-Dozier-Holland and Bill Withers. Breakfast in Bed makes for a leisurely listen on a sunny Sunday morning, so put up your feet and stay awhile. --Ben Heege
Album Description
Joan Osbourne's recently recorded album pays homage to the great Soul and R&B songs of the late '60s and early '70s. The album features a unique combination of unforgettable interpretations of timeless R&B classics. Her first single to radio will be "I've Got to Use My Imagination."

You can't go wrong........2007-07-25
This intriguing mix cover songs and originals make this a very enjoyable collection, although the covers are not as varied as say Annie Lennox's Medusa but still engaging all the same. The tracks seem to pull you in more and more with each listen. "Baby is a Butterfly", "Sarah Smile" and "Cream Dream" were all particularly absorbing the first time through. The production is very good and clean. Her voice is as mesmerizing and sensual as always. You can't go wrong.
Better & Better.......2007-07-24
I can never believe how Joan tops herself time and again. Since I first heard Spiderweb before Relish was widely released I knew I was in for a stunner. Over the years I've collected pretty much all Joan's recording including trades of several soundboard live recordings. With Breakfast in Bed Joan delivers once again. The songs are well chosen and as always the CD is perfectly balanced.
Her original recordings fit in with the covers she selected. I've been waiting for over two years for her to deliver these original works. I saw her perform in an obscure venue in Southern Connecticut where she was trying out her chops on these numbers. Keep up with the Soul, R
Exactly as advertised.......2007-07-22
As one reviewer noted, this release is somewhat monotone. Still, it's a relaxing and quality release from Joan that my wife really likes. Getting "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted" is a bonus.
A couple of the originals are really excellent, stay in your head tunes. I'd say if your having Breakfast in Bed, it works. But it's not an all occasions, "hey check this out" kind of release.
Joan O. has got it.......2007-07-19
I'm becoming a bigger fan of Joan every day. I loved her last album, Pretty Little Stranger, even though it was a bit country for her, and I'm not a country music fan. I'm interested in checking out this collection of her covering pop hits. She does covers well, and her voice is so obviously hers, that even though it might be a song you have heard enough times already in your life, hearing the "Joan" version is always a treat. I'm sorry this is not a review of this album in particular, I do plan to get it soon. I'll let you know then! I'm giving 5 stars based on the Amazon video and audio samples. What I can say is that her previous albums are all great, and her live shows are awesome, especially if you can be lucky enough to see her in a smaller venue.
The first time I saw her was pretty much by accident. I wound up crossing through the front of a very large crowd between acts at a Woodstock reunion in Bethel, NY (not Pepsistock in Saugeraties), in the late 90's. Then Joan and her band came on and I'm front and center and she blew me away with St. Teressa or something like that. I've been a fan ever since.
Fantastic voice and song list.......2007-07-12
Most know Joan for her 90's hit "If God Was One of Us." She is far from those days. Most would be astounded to hear what Joan;s voice is capable of, as that song only trapped her into a simple octave throughout its verses.
Here in "Breakfast In Bed", Joan takes the jazz practice of covering American classics and favorites in her dynamic, raspy alto voice. This is a great CD, my favorites include the live performances of "Heatwave" and "What Becomes of a Broken Hearted" with Motown's Funk Brothers; and classics "Natural High" and "Sara Smile."
Check the song list, if you find any of your old favorites the GET THIS CD, you will definately not be disappointed. However "What Becomes of a Broken Hearted" is worth the $13 alone.

Strip away the music of an Andrew Bird song, and you're left with brilliant prose ("across the great chasms and schisms and the sudden aneurysms"), vignettes about mentally fending off plane crashes, infiltrating characters like the kings of Macedonia and Lou Dobbs, and titles such as "Yawny at the Apocalyspe." It's hard to believe that, really, his music reigns, but when Bird adds understated acoustic guitars, Wurlitzer and Rhodes, and his own mesmerizing pizzicato violin, his songs take on a progressive mood all their own. The Chicago Bird's tenth album (and his debut for extraordinary Mississippi blues label Fat Possum) is perhaps his most diverse, expansive, and resourceful yet, catering to a half-dozen genres of music while exploring storylines that are naïve ("Dark Matter"), candid ("Fiery Crash"), and blatantly comical ("Armchairs"). Making no palpable effort to crack the conventional with overflowing melodies and love songs, Bird instead latches up the intellect to create tiny packages of literature that make always leave you thinking--and snapping your fingers at the same time. --Scott Holter

polished.......2007-07-26
You can't find Andrew Bird's uniquely melancholy whimsy easily anywhere else. I'm always pleased by his albums, but they pale compared to his live performances (in small venues). Bird live compared to his albums is like original Van Gogh compared to its poster print.
I wish he would learn to play the freakin' guitar!.......2007-07-20
First of all, let me offer my support of Invisigoth. A very well-balanced and thoughtful review (which maybe didn't match with the 1-star rating).
Secondly, I refuse to join the bandwagon of Andrew Bird worship. Especially around here (the Twin Cities), he gets played very frequently on indie rock stations here (namely, The Current), and the DJs seem to adore him. While I freely admit he's incredibly gifted as a musician, most of his songs seem to boil down to about 2 quite uninteresting chords. And anybody's who's ever plugged in an electric guitar at the music store could sound like his guitar. He seems to have no idea of how to nuance a guitar and amp to really get the richness that is possible. And I'm sorry, but "Fiery Crash" is just plain boring!
He can do better than this, and I hope he does on his next album.
Not to my taste.......2007-07-14
Based on the reviews I read, I was really looking forward to hearing this. The artwork featuring a bird is very eye-catching. I just couldn't get into the music. I've listened to it twice, hoping that it would improve with familiarity. It didn't. The lyrics might be good but, the musicality of Andrew's work escapes me. There's nothing catchy here and most of the songs are downright depressing.
An Antti Keisala Comment: Tales Of The Mysterious Moon.......2007-06-02
Some people go by the charts, but I belong to the other group that has found out that for them the most rewarding process in finding new music is indeed in the search itself. Some of the music I know are recommendations from friends, but quite a bit is based on the same kind of research-like relationship I have with cinema, where IMDb helps quite a bit. An example: you start from a Béla Tarr and end up being introduced to a Polish cameraman or his assistant who had worked with David Lynch on Inland Empire. I can't think of a funnier or more rewarding experience of finding new music and taking it actually into our life.
I am new to Andrew Bird. This I'm ashamed to confess, but better late than never; I only stumbled on him at the time of the release of this album a few months back, then had to get The Mysterious Production of Eggs, Weather Systems and his work with the Bowl of Fire. I came to him pretty straight through the usual companions, Sufjan Stevens and Jeffrey Foucault, and I don't know how I've managed so far without him: he's a part of the new wave of post-indie rock channeled through self-conscious resurgence of American folk music culture. But that's only part of where he's rooted: there's some of The Arcade Fire and some Jeff Buckley, and yet transcending comparison and forming a recognizable entity on his own.
Bird is a great musician and the live recordings, the three Fingerlings, should give some weight to this argument about his sense of using the instruments; he's like the young Warren Ellis of violin. He's also absolutely hilarious; his humour is witty and ironic, and his lyrics and singing completely complement the mood the song sets musically. The album opener "Fiery Crash" opens like a trashy garage rock song and evolves to an immesurably sophisticated pop song, almost echoing a Belle And Sebastian composition; but this is pop music that isn't pop music; it has twists and turns that continuously shape the direction the song and album are going to. Every time my mind grasps a hook and settles onto it for continuity, Bird changes the direction. I've scarcely had so much fun whilst listening.
A gem that's special. Have fun.
With best regards,
AK
memorable 'apocrypha'.......2007-05-21
After seeing Andrew Bird live playing this new material I've really grown to appreciate this new album. He is taking his music in a new direction, and I for one like it a lot. My advice: buy the album, see him live, experience all the wonderful colors and lyrics that he has to offer.

In My Songs is soul man Gerald LeVert's final farewell, a collection of vintage-sounding R&B equal to any of the discs he put out in his 20-year career. Only, of course, sadder: Prior to track one, Gerald's legendary father, the O'Jay's Eddie LeVert, reminisces momentarily about the months leading up to this album and his son's pride in presenting it; shards of that short speech linger through songs like "Sweetness," in which the man who was called "Teddy Bear" before Ruben Studdard was a twinkle in Paula Abdul's eye promises to "be sweeter tomorrow than I was today," and "Hang in There," a soulful plea sent out to a sulking lady friend. Two upbeat songs break the solemn mood midway through--"DJ Don't" molds itself to fit old-school party-night sensibilities, and "Wanna Get up with You" whisks the ladies off to the dancefloor--but even those tracks can't help going bittersweet around the edges. They represent LeVert's lost magnetism, after all. And they're reminders that the man who once promised to "sing it to you time and time again," won't. --Tammy La Gorce

R.I.P. Gerald aka The Teddy Bear.......2007-07-12
It was such a shock when the world lost one of the greatest R&B singers, Gerald Levert, in November 2006 but he left behind one of the greatest CDs I've ever heard. There is not one song on this CD that I don't like; I love every one of them! My particular faves are:
2. I Don't Get Down Like That
5. Fall Back
6. Deep As It Goes (my all time favorite!)
12. Is This The Way to Heaven?
I wish Mr. Levert could have given us more of his singing talent but God called him home for His purpose and we have to accept that fact. Thank you Gerald for giving the R&B world what it really needed: true talent. Rest In Peace.
Thanks For The Memories!.......2007-06-26
The R&B World lost another balladeer a few short months ago when Gerald Levert passed away at the early age of 40. Although we will miss him, he left behind a extensive music library including an album that he had just completed at the time of his passing. In My Songs is a 12-song collection that encompasses the diverse array of sounds that we have come to love from Gerald Levert. The upbeat tracks that stand out the most are the happy-go-lucky song "Wanna Get Up With You," the charismatic "DJ Don't," and the bouncy "What Cha Think About That." His best mid-tempo songs would have to be "I Don't Get Down Like That" and "M'Lady" although "Fall Back" and "To My Head" are also respectable. But Gerald still gives the ladies a couple slow jams to cuddle up with. The title track "In My Songs" has to be one of his best ballads to date with all of the compassion that you hear from him while he's belting out his feelings. "Is This The Way To Heaven?" and "Deep As It Goes" are smooth love songs that will put anybody in the mood for some extra-curricular activity. "Hang In There" and "Sweeter" are more romantic in their approach than the other slow cuts. Gerald Levert definitely proved himself time and time again that he more than just Eddie Levert's son. He stood the test of time and garnered fans from across the globe. In My Songs is a great complement to his already huge discography. Even if no more albums are released, the world has many great songs and great memories of the man they called 'Teddy Bear'...R.I.P.
I still miss him.......2007-05-29
I still think I'm going to wake up and realise that Gerald's death was all a dream. But, alas, it isn't so. This album was worked on by my boyfriend and the pain that appears on his face each time the video comes on, makes me just want to take away the pain somehow. It's a great purchase in rememberance of a great guy!
A collection item.......2007-05-16
This cd is a good one to get for your collection. Easy listening, no cursing and no rap, I give it a 5!!! Rest in Peace Teddy Bear.
Life isn't just for the living........2007-05-09

Van Morrison calls James Hunter "the best voice and best-kept secret in British R&B and soul." And the Colchester native and former busker does, indeed, sound like a one-man blue-eyed revival on his U.S. debut, People Gonna Talk. He navigates 14 self-penned ska (the title track), soul-blues ("Kick It Around"), and primal funk ("No Smoke Without Fire") tunes with panache. Hunter's voice unerringly carves out graceful melodies and soars into falsetto at whim over his horn-sparked band as he digs through his vast bag of traditional, stinging blues'n'soul licks on electric guitar. But... there's something missing. Although the disc was cut live in the studio, it lacks the vibrant energy of his stage performances. And Hunter borrows so extensively from his influences that he sounds like he's covering Bobby Bland, Howard Tate, James Brown, and the Studio One roster rather than traveling his own path. Nevertheless, as Morrison intimates, Hunter's estimable singing and playing will please fans of classic R&B and soul. --Ted Drozdowski
Album Description
"2006 Grammy Nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album of the Year"
"James is one of the best voices, and best kept secrets, in British R & B and soul. Check him out." -Van Morrison
On his U.S. debut, James Hunter proves to be a man of impeccable taste who has learned from his influences rather than simply imitating them. 'People Gonna Talk' features 14 original tracks written and arranged by Hunter, who partnered with producer Liam Watson to create a wonderfully rich, classic soul sound. The album was recorded at Watson's Toe Rag Studios in East London (also home to The White Stripes' 'Elephant'), where vintage analog equipment captured the warmth of Hunter's authentic and heartfelt sensibilities.
Customer Reviews:
Thank you fellow reviewers.......2007-07-10
This is all as promised and more. One of the best SOUL releases I have ever heard. What a voice and what a songwriter. If there is a better singer / songwriter in the genre, I have not heard him. This spans age and gender gaps in one single bound. No qualifiers necessary. If you like music, buy it. Irrespective of the genre you'r into, this will get your toe's tapping and if you have a spouse, hers will be tapping right along.
One of my best recent purchases !!!!!
MONO MANIAC.......2007-06-05
It's rare to find a new CD where both the music and the recording set the standard for quality. James Hunter's music speaks for itself, but I doubt MP3 downloaders will be able to fully appreciate how good the sound quality is. This recording has a retro feel but with rich tone, vibrant dynamics, and the presence of a live event. This is a tribute to the vintage analog recording techniques used at Toe Rag Studios in London. However, I haven't heard anyone mention that the recording is Monaural, rather than the usual Stereo. When these Brits go retro, they really do it right. This is the kind of recording that makes me glad to have high end audio gear. People Gonna Talk is highly recommended for both audiophiles and music lovers.
Reincarnation Rhythm and Blues.......2007-05-13
The ghosts of Chicago Blues men and Sam Cooke float like mylar balloons listening to the reborn sounds emitting from James Hunter's voice and guitar. He invokes his muses to bring forth joy and verve in song after song. The sparseness of his guitar licks makes you crave more. Never into long extended solos he lets his sidemen take center stage. I am looking forward to a live recording. For now this CD is plenty good.
Cooke-ing with Soul.......2007-04-24
British singer-songwriter James Hunter has been stylistically compared to everyone from James Brown to Bobby Bland, but he also must have been listening to a lot of Sam Cooke records. In terms of his song structure and his laconic brand of soul, he sounds to me like he's channeling Cooke. Hunter's guitar and vocals set the tone, and he is capably backed by a small group of two saxophonists, a drummer and a bassist. He moves with an unassuming ease through all fourteen of these original tunes, which touch on the blues and ska as well as R&B. And once in a while he'll get energetic, picking up the pace and punctuating the song with a soulful yell. There's a real retro feel to these mellow performances, and while it remains to be seen how long Hunter can remain popular with this variety of blue-eyed soul, it's an impressive U.S. debut that is definitely worth your attention. (P.S.: Hunter is also a fairly talented cartoonist - check out his clever and amusing illustrations in the CD booklet.)
Sam Cooke and Ray Charles he isn't...........2007-02-07
I heard so much about this guy - I had to give him a try. What a disappointment. He basically sings every song the same (retro maybe) but all basically the same. If you want to listen to Sam or Ray - listen to them - they are the "real deal" - give this guy the kick out the door - next stop - fakesville!

Inspired by the lovable Saturday Night Live white-boy blues schtick of Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, director John Landis seemingly threw every harebrained stunt he could imagine--and millions of dollars in production costs and wrecked autos--onto the screen. The resulting film could have been mistaken for a bad case of Hunter S. Thompson's D.T.'s, but Landis never shortchanged the music: Cab Calloway, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, and Ray Charles all get their moment in the spotlight. Miraculously, the chic-shabby Blues Brothers, anchored by the Stax rhythm section of Cropper and Dunn, hold their own against the legends, perhaps by the sheer joy and love they have for the music. --Jerry McCulley

I am still a fan of this movie but the music is AWESOME! John and Dan did a splendid rendition of "Sweet Home Chicago" that stands out of one of the best selections in this collection! The late James Brown adds an awesome power in The Old Landmark that should make your hands clap!Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin were first rate with their selections. We can't forget the musical legend Cab Calloway with Minnie the Moocher! Great Movie...Great C.D.! This rocks!!

Good music from a truly funny film. Aretha at her finest. Belushi can sing! Great interprettions of Chicago style blues. A must have for your soundtrack or pop collection. Good party record too.
The Holy Grail of "Musicals".......2006-12-21
Is it possible for anyone to dislike the soundtrack to one of the greatest musical films of all time??? From the opening track of "She Caught the Katy" to the closing track of "Jailhouse Rock", the Blues Brothers deliver a solid performance on each and every song on the album. While the movie and soundtrack are obviously comical (i.e "Theme from Rawhide", and if you disagree, you've got some obvious developmental issues with your funny bone), the music is nothing less than great. Yes, I realize that Dan and John might not be the greatest singers/musicians of all time, but what they did for R&B has been more prolific not only for R&B, but for music as a whole in our great United States. I'd love to see anyone pull off (now) what Jake and Elwood did in their time. I think G. Love & Special Sauce are great, as I do John Spencer, but what Jake and Elwood did for American music in the late 70's and early 80's has been unparalleled. Don't get me wrong, I love Jake and Elwood, but the Blues Brothers band is definitely more talented than the "Brothers". Knowing the history of the band, it's hard to ignore the talent of the band, and not give "props" to Cropper, Dunn, etc. I don't care what a anyone else "thinks", this is a great album!!!

The lead voice of Stax Records' powerhouse soul duo Sam and Dave returns to reclaim his legacy here with a collection of familiar r&b catalog choices framed by slick, decidedly contemporary productions. If the project's crowded supporting cast -- Springsteen, Clapton, Wynonna, Sting, Bon Jovi, Winwood, Paul Rodgers, Mariah Carey, Vince Gill and Billy Gibbons among the most notable -- sometimes makes Moore seem like a guest on his own album, their admittedly marketing-driven presence nonetheless helps showcase a seminal soul artist for an American Idol-smitten generation that seems to have taken him for granted (hardly a surprise that project producer Randy Jackson is best known as an AI judge). Yet Moore's gritty, expressive voice can't be denied on the best of it, whether on the simmering gospel fervor of the Wynonna/Bekka Bramlett/Bebe Winans-seasoned "I Can't Stand the Rain," the bluesy shuffle of "Better To Have and Not Need" with Springsteen joining in the chorus or a soulful "None of Us Are Free" featuring Sting. But, as Fantasia's turn on the unfortunate "Blame It On the Rain" argues, it's also an album whose tracks often frustratingly rise or fall in proportion to the contributions of its guests; less would definitely mean Moore here. --Jerry McCulley
Album Description
Sam Moore's astonishing solo album that showcases his timeless talent and versatility.
Customer Reviews:
Soul so smooth he sounds like it is as easy as breathing.......2007-07-06
Sam Moore's voice takes you in and keeps you until well after the songs are over. The guests do not overpower him in anyway, they complement him and, yes, the album would have been great without them, but it's full of little treats with them.Vince Gill's tenor,Wynonna, Bon Jovi, Springstein, Winwood, Bramlett (now that woman can sing!). I'm 48 and my daughter is 18. She loves all kinds of rap and soul, and everything else that 18 year olds like, but she loves this album. Everytime we get into the car together she wants to hear Bramlett and Sam on "Don't Play That Song for Me". I only mention this to show that Sam can reach anybody with his soulful voice, he makes it sound so easy, it's just like breathing for him and the man is 71 years old! I hope he does more recording because I'll certainly be standing in line.
Fantastic cd @}->---.......2007-06-12
I am so impressed with this cd. It's great. It's produced by Randy Jackson and it features an impressive list of guest artists. I mean, to have people on your cd like Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Mariah Carey, Eric Clapton (guitar), Vince Gill and Wynonna Judd to name a few is fantastic.
The music itself is stunning and soothing and I'm totally hooked. I really love Lookin For A Love (with Jon Bon Jovi) and It's Only Make Believe (with Mariah). I can't stop playing this and his voice is as powerful as ever. I really think this cd is one that should have a wide appeal. I love it and I hope you do as much as I do. Go buy a copy.
Just SENSATIONAL.......2007-04-02
A fantastic offering from the real king of Soul and friends every track a winner Sam Moore is still brilliant after all these years , i saw him with Dave back in the sixties and now 40 years later he is still brilliant. buy this "album " you will not be disappointed.
This is an exceptional cd........2007-03-13
This is a fantastic blend of artists and done so well, this cd will easily become one of my favorites. The first time I heard it I knew instantly that I had made a good choice by buying this cd.
Sooo Smooth.......2007-01-13
How great to hear him again, and I especially like his performance with Becca Bramlett, the next generation!

Description
Tamia is one of the world's most loved R&B singers with a career highlighted by two certified gold albums, has arrived with her a new studio album and fourth release featuring a mixture of club tracks, duets and mainstream R&B songs produced by proven hitmakers Rodney Jerkins and Shep Crawford. Four time Grammy Nominee and Winner of the Best Vocal Performance Award, Tamia's long awaited follow-up to her hit record More finds the sultry, sophisticated singer at both a creative and personal apex. The 15-song disc, Between Friends, sizzles with her trademark sensuality, but it is also buoyed by a sparkling personality that her fans don't always get to see. Like her past efforts, the disc is anchored by stunning vocal displays that rival this generation's greatest voices. The album features the hit track "Can't Get Enough" which is one of the most highly anticipated songs from one of radio's favorite artists.
Customer Reviews:
This album is excellent.......2007-07-06
Go on Tamia! This album is so good. I can drive to it, exercise to it, relax to it, and sleep to it! I am truly inspired by Tamia and have been a fan of hers since forever. She sings like a bird, her voice is beautiful! My favorite songs are ME (love the video & the message), ALMOST, PROTECT MY HEART, LAST FIRST KISS, SITTIN ON THE JOB, CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF YOU...I could go on and on. Excellent job Tamia, I can't wait to see what the next album will be like. I am your fan!
Tamia is one of the most under rated female R&B singers.......2007-06-19
It was May when I heard a cut from Between Friends, 6 months after the CD was released. Tamia has on of the most distincitve voices on the scene and she is often slept on and gone unnoticed. She is a force to be reckoned with.
Tamia is the truth.......2007-06-07
Tamia is a rare artist who is talented and can more than carry a note. Between friends has everything you could ever want in a cd. For example this album has the club banger (Too Grown For That), the slow jams (Can't Get Enough Of You & Last First Kiss) and a powerful track (Me). Tamia does a great job of bring the songs to life and she sounds great over any beat. This album will definitely stay in your rotation!!!
MY TOP FIVE
1. The Way I Love You
2. Can't Get Enough Of You
3. Almost
4. Happy
5. Become Us
Hats off to a Job well done!.......2007-06-05
I became a big fan of Tamia's when I was in college with the second Cd A NU Day and since then that chic has been blowing me away. I heard the African release of Between Friends before it was released in the US and was blown away. She is one of the most under-rated singers in the industry. In a world of none singing little kids she provides a breath of fresh air. "Me" can easily rival "Stranger in my House". Become Us" and "To Grown for That" are crazy up-tempo tracks. I instantly gravitated to "Almost" the minute I heard it! I've never heard that concept before. Last First Kiss says it all again this introduced another concept in a world of tasteless unoriginal R&B. "Sitting on the Job" is another one of my favorites. I'm really happy she changed this into a full song.
If you don't have this in your collection then you are truly missing a gem. HATS OFF TO TAMIA!
Great Album!.......2007-05-17
Imazing voice and beatiful caribean melodies, love this album, so far I had bought each one of her albums but this one is absolutly the best.

Album Description
From his most recent sold out tour of Japan, this release features some of Setzer's most searing guitar work to date. Includes his biggest hits ("Rock This Town", "Stray Cat Strut", and more) alongside songs from his recent "Rockabilly Riot" and "13", all with a new energy that could only be captured in a live setting among his most rabid fans in the world. Adding a piano player and second guitarist to the line-up presented an opportunity to take some of his Stray Cats classics and solo hits into fresh territory. A must have for any Setzer fan.

Follow up record.......2007-06-01
Not to say this guy isn't good, he is and very smooth too. If you have "People Gonna Talk" though, this new offering is like the cuts that missed the first recording.
Believe What I Say.......2007-04-11
I had never seen James Hunter until I saw him on Leno. I kept hearing a soul thread floating through this song. At times I thought I could hear a mild James Brown influence. (J.B. Fan)
I don't usually hear one song and go to Amazon to buy, but I did and was very satisfied. I bought 2 CD's. Quite pleased on both, Believe What I Say & People Gonna Talk.

A Tremendous Find.......2007-01-14
I was turned on to James Hunter by a friend. What a great find he turned out to be for me. Having started my true music appreciation with the motown sound and soul music of the '60's and '70's, James is a great modern day find. The sax in his music is quite appealing. I highly recommend anyone curious about James's music go to his web site and sample his sound. Gauranteed to please.

Grunge angst got old. We wanted to have fun. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy was there, ready with serviceable, pumped-up swing. Their music is straight, uptempo, dance floor jazz. There's nothing particularly original going on, but the sleazy horns and snappy arrangements get the job done. There's nothing campy or tongue-in-cheek either; the music just barrels ahead...like good rock & roll. --Steve Tignor

i love big bad voodoo daddy!.......2007-07-08
this has to be my favorite bbvd cd. great to blast in the car for any ride and to dance to.
Great Stuff.......2007-02-03
We used to see these guys play on the Nashville club circuit in the late 1990s, and bought the CD at that time. the energy of their live performances comes through on this New Orleans-style jazz compilation. From the back beat to the great rhythms, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy will have you snapping your fingers, tapping your toes, and wishing you had more of their stuff. I highly recommend it.
Where did these guys come from?!.......2006-03-01
Wow! If you would like a change in pace from hiphop or rock and want to be transported back in time, check out these guys! This group creates a wonderful mix of New Orleans jazz, swing, and modern story lyrics. I only wish we could have some clubs open up in our downtowns with this sound. This group will make you move and you'll be "swinging" before you notice what's happening.
Wonderful.......2006-02-26
With bands like "Big Bad Voo Doo Daddy" they just don't get better than this. If you want to get in a good mood, lose weight, (I did. I lost 25 pounds with this band)or just feel good, this is the music to buy!!!
Couldn't be more satisfied.......2005-08-02
I went to the concert and enjoyed the music sooo much that I decided to buy the CD. My family and I absolutely love it. All of the music is so upbeat it just makes you want to dance.
