5 out of 5 stars work it, björk!.......2001-07-10

i have a lot of pointless björk remix singles. this is DEFINITELY not one of them. along with having one of the best lyrics ever written, the majority of the alarm call remixes are super super good. this is my favorite alarm call cd, and it reeks of so much ecstatic exuberance that i can barely contain myself. if i had to limit myself to buying *just* one alarm call cd, this would definitely be it. well worth the 11+ dollars to have it.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!.......2001-05-17

This is one of Bjork's best remixes. Mark Bell takes this first track and adds some great beats, a fun sample of her voice, a soaring, catchy and off beat keyboard sample and serves us all Bjork's steaming, hot Potage Du Jour. I've heard this remix played on vinyl at some techno/house shindigs before and it's playful, quick pace infects dancefloors. It is the highlight of the cd but one you'll hit the repeat button for. Track number two is more housey than Potage, but it still is good. The beat arrangement is tight with some good samples before you get to the heart of the song lyrics. You'll feel like a hug before the cd is done playing. Track number three is the instrumental of the second one and is worth listening to. It is really catchy and if you dig Bjork, Mark Bell, house or techno, you'll find this little yellow cd in your rotation. Enjoy.

1 out of 5 stars Bad Remixing - it's a crime.......2000-09-15

Bjork is probably one of the greatest artists that ever lived... which is exactly why other people shouldn't be messing with her songs. Now, don't get me wrong, I've heard other Bjork remixes that were ok. But, this single is a waste of time. The first remix is simply the radio edit/remix. It's a little different than the album version, but not much. The other two mixes are just awful. Move along, move along.

1 out of 5 stars AWFUL!.......2000-08-29

The only good thing about this CD is that it ends somewhat quickly. The first mix is okay, but not as good as the album version. The next two mixes are DREADFUL. They are so slow and overproduced that all of the fun of one of Bjork's best songs is totally lost. The last mix is the worst. Unfortunately, it's also the longest. I don't know why anyone would willingly sit through six and a half minutes of this stuff. It KILLS the song. really, I like Bjork more than anyone I know, but this CD is NOT worth eleven dollars!

5 out of 5 stars yeah. so there's only 3 trks... but they're totally worth it.......1999-08-20

the remixes on this single are so playfully and uniquely bjork that i got all tingley inside from hearing it. super coolio -- so buy it!

5 out of 5 stars Bjork uses her vocals as a gift to all.......1999-08-14

Bjork's amazing vocal versatility is stretched and beautifully mastered over these delightful remixes, each telling a different tale, but all with the same moral.

5 out of 5 stars get this for "Radio Mix".......1999-07-20

The Radio Mix is incredible, so much better and accessable than the album version, a sweet bass line and drum loop. Incredible. Instead of getting this though, get the box with all 9 remixes and the video. Whatever you do, get the radio mix.

5 out of 5 stars so WAKE UP, WAKE UP NOW!!!.......2002-05-15

This is one of the best Björk's remix single ever. If you still have doubts-don't! Those beats, those melody, those VOICE! The song is very optimistic and it sounds great.
If you're a Björk fan-You must have it! If You like Björk-You should have it!
greetz!

4 out of 5 stars The Ultimate CD Series.......2000-11-22

Bjork Gudmundsdottir is definitely the last decade's biggest find. On this CD single, from her wonderful album 'Homogenic', she remixes the original version to a degree that works VERY effectively. Its impossible to guess what Bjork will come up with next, after 'Selmasongs', but listening to the 'old days' such as this song, only reaffirms that shes one of the best musicians Iceland has ever produced.

'Alarm Call' Pt.3 is not the best in the series, but certainly worth buying, especially if you're a Bjork single collector.

5 out of 5 stars Great remixes!.......1999-04-12

Bjork took one of her amazing songs and remixed them into something extraordinary! One listen to this sinlge and you'll realize how creative and just plain AWESOME Bjork is!

3 out of 5 stars NOT SURE WHAT TO RATE THIS.......2001-03-29

Holy cow, I paid $60 for this thing when it was first released!! I think most of us by now have caught on to the Homogenic-era marketing scheme. First release pricey box sets including videos... then release all the tracks on cheap EPs later!!!! Atleast Amazon's price is more fair.

CD1 -- The Radio Edit is more upbeat than the original song, but also more commercial sounding. The Rhythmic Phonetics remix by Matmos is one song I consider an all-time Bjork essential. It is amazing what new rhythms were created in the splicing and dicing of Bjork's voice and arranged most expertly in a new era of remixing. This song is pure genius!! It also has a lot of sound effects and is overall quite silly. The "Bjeck" mix - despite it's cute name - is total trash. It's like Beck tried to be avant-garde and somehow missed the point.

CD2 -- All of these Mark Bell dance remixes sound very similar. With all of their French names and dubs and what-nots, the end result is very listenable, enjoyable, upbeat, French-sounding dance music. One thing to be clear on is that as with most Homogenic remixing, these all sound *very* similar to each other, unlike the Bjork remixes of old.

CD3 -- The sound here gets more "hip" but sad to say, truly there is nothing memorable on this disc. They don't even measure up to the vibes from the Dobie mixes of Possibly Maybe or even the Blue mix of Bachelorette, for that matter.

The Video -- Fires up some, perturbs others. She's on a raft in the jungle singing and such and then playing with a snake and eventually by the end of the video there is implied sexual behavior with the snake that personally is repulsive and a bit disturbing to me. Ahh, such is Bjork. A true Magenta. (her aura, i mean)

Real nth-level diehards will buy the whole thing. I myself am pretty diehard; but in retrospect, I wish I could've just gotten CDs 1 & 2.

    3 out of 5 stars Alarm Call - not what I expected.......1999-07-27

I ordered this box set of singles hoping for the typical surprise of how many ways Bjork can make one song sound so diverse. I was impressed with almost every remix, but my biggest problem with it, is that it was censored! The line, "I'm no f***ing Buddhist" was dubbed over in 8 of the 9 remixes. Since that is one of the more powerful lines in the song, the remixes were partially ruined for me. The "Alarm Call" video was amazing. Bjork was at her finest, with her sexy scary moves. I enjoyed the video the most, even though it was also censored.

i have a lot of pointless björk remix singles. this is DEFINITELY not one of them. along with having one of the best lyrics ever written, the majority of the alarm call remixes are super super good. this is my favorite alarm call cd, and it reeks of so much ecstatic exuberance that i can barely contain myself. if i had to limit myself to buying *just* one alarm call cd, this would definitely be it. well worth the 11+ dollars to have it.

Enjoy.
