Gran Turismo
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Until now, the Swedish group the Cardigans were easily identified by their sunny, pop-friendly, melodic releases. Fearing being typecast as an act fluffier than a Nordic lamb, the band decided to head farther north for the winter. With Gran Turismo, their fifth release, you'll need your favorite, um, sweater, because the season has turned, the atmosphere is frosty, and, indeed, the nights are long and dark. Gran Turismo is a trip-hop album following the lead of grim meisters Portishead. The CD is punctuated with distorted, muted, uncomplicated guitar riffs and keyboard effects that often sound like a harpsichord played through a fuzz box. Nina Persson's slightly aching, sleepy little cutesy lead vocals sound as frictionless as rubbing two ice cubes together. Although the skies are grayer here, the one familiar musical element is their simple yet compelling rhythm structures, as evidenced in their jazz-informed drum patterns. If the Cardigans weren't competent musicians, this album would come across as nothing more than a career-sustaining maneuver. But with this solid, dark, and intriguing release, they've clearly demonstrated their ability to compose great songs, no matter what the weather. --Beth Bessmer --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

Definitivamente GRAN Tursimo.......2007-07-19
Musica eclectica bastante recomendada.
my fav cardigans album.......2007-06-05
i've listened to them all and this one grabs me the most. the whole album is good. your favorite game got a little played out but is still cool.
erase and rewind is very nice.
well there's more 5 star reviews than less.......2006-11-29
I don't think this band can do no wrong. There song writing ability playing and production is just unsurpassed and unduplicated
"I don't know what you're looking for...".......2006-08-01
The Cardigans album Gran Turismo is very interesting and strange to say the least. Lead singer Nina Peerson's vocals and excellent songwriting keeps this album shining from start to finish. Standout tracks include: My Favourite Game, Higher, Junk of Hearts, and Erase and Rewind. This album isn't perfect but it is a mellow and enjoyable disc. Decide for yourself on this one.
One of my "Desert Island" discs.......2006-05-05
This was quite a shock for a Cardigans fan who starting listening to them when First Band on the Moon came out. After listening to Life and FBOTM over and over again, I was not expecting the Cards to go electronic. But I have to say, I'm glad they did. They more or less abandoned their original 60's sound; the only song on here that sounds like their earlier work is "Junk of the Hearts". The Cardigans have the same uncanny grace that bands like Saint Etienne have, able to switch sounds completely between albums and yet still sound like they've been playing this way forever.
"Paralyzed" is a great opening tune, I love the lyrics. "Explode", "Erase/Rewind", and "Hanging Around" are also oustanding tracks. My favorites would have to be "My Favourite Game" and "Do You Believe".
I haven't heard Long Gone Before Daylight very often and I have yet to hear their new one (who knows when it will be released in the US), but I can safely say that I will listen to whatever music they want to put out. Because chances are, it will be fantastic!

THAT song............2004-01-06
The song featured in the 'movie' at the beginning of Gran Turismo is a Chemical Brothers remix of "Everything Must Go" by the Manic Street Preachers, which is the title track from their fourth album of the same name (obviously), which, from memory, was released in 1996. The 'Manics' regularly used the Chemical Brothers to remix their tracks from that period on and included them on the B-sides/extra tracks on their single releases for the next few years or so. God only knows where you can get the version heard on the GT intro (somebody else may have posted it above - I can't remember! :P), but there's the facts for ya, so it may help.....
Some great songs.......1999-12-21
when i bought this cd i was looking for two songs, feeder - sweet 16 and ash - lose control. i found them. great. however like i saw some of the other reviewers had wrote there are some songs missing. if u bought this cd and cant find them i suggest u look for them in the opening menu of gran turismo. choose options and then music or something like that. some of the songs on the cd is great some of them arent. to those who complains about it, i wanna say: "isnt this normal? soundtracks are put together by some great tracks, some less great and some really bad" some songs were included that wasnt in the game but thats a fact in "real" soundtracks too. some of these songs are even great! like the dandy warhols - not if u were... is a great songs even if it doesnt really fit in. so are the feeder songs and especially the ash song. if u still wanna complain about this cd having bad songs ima tell u some more "CHRIST! ITS A PLAYSTATION GAME SOUNDTRACK! ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THE BEST CD EVER! GET OVER IT!" ---- final word: if u like the music thats mostly played in the game buy this cd. if u like hardcore rock buy this cd. if u want a cd with the greatest songs ever made dont buy this cd. its a compilation with some great songs by many rather unknown artist who might get some exposement. and i like it!
Who cares if one song is gone?.......1999-05-16
The only thing that the other people have to say is that this disc is incomplete, but if they would take some time and listen to the rest of the album they might realize that it totally rocks. While the Chem. Bros. song is cool, it was used in the introduction and dosent really need to be on this cd to give it a nice, well rounded sound. While songs such as Lose Control by Ash, and As Heaven Is Wide by Garbage, being directly from the game, both need and deserve a place on the disc.
The discs bigest problem lies in the fact that its mixing is off beat at best, keeping it from a 5 star rating. It seems to alternate from mod-rock to tech on every other song, and where it dosent, there is a major change in tempo between songs, making it hard to race consistantly to. With a little re-aranging, this cd could have been great and if you take the time to program it in a better order it is, but you shouldnt have to waste the time on things like that.
Some of the really good songs: CONSPIRACY (HEXIDECIMAL 7") by Terrorvision WHOOSH by Bentley Rhythm Ace WIDE OPEN SPACE by Mansun ECT...
Not exactly what people expect , but still not too bad........1999-04-13
Although most of the music is able to be driven to , some of the music tracks just distract from the mood Gran Tourismo originally established.Tracks 2, 11, and 14 don't really seem to fit in with the GT soundtrack. There were also some good songs from the game that weren't present in the soundtrack. However, fans of exceptional racing tunes should enjoy tracks 6, 7, and 13. Check this CD out if you'd enjoy a more rebellious feeling to racing your GT.
Chemical Brothers Song.......1999-03-21
Gran Tirismo is great! To the fan from San A Monica, the Chemical Brother's song can be found on their CD "Brothers Gonna Work It Out" DJ mix. Another great CD, The opening theme is somewhere in the fifth track, there are five tracks with about 20 different songs continuosly run together, thust named the DJ mix. If you buy it you WILL hear it, the only problem is, there are no car noises.

Shouldn't there be music to listen to while you're zoning out with your Sony Playstation 2? And shouldn't it be music that races your pulse and turbocharges your reflexes? In other words, there's a reason why there's no Neil Diamond on the music portion of the 2-CD Playstation disc. Instead, it's hammerdown heavy metal, space age techno, or the Cardigans, whose melodically seductive "My Favorite Game" sounds suspiciously out of place among the likes of Apollo 440's "Cold Rock the Mic." You expect to see Rob Zombie and Moby listed here. But most amusing is the unexpected team-up of Fear Factory and Gary Numan for a remake of Numan's infamous new wave hit, "Cars." Doesn't say whether it's guaranteed to improve your overall performance. That must be part of the "Cool Moves from the Pros" on disc two. --Rob O'Connor
Customer Reviews:
What a GREAT hard to find soundtrack.......2006-07-14
I had this soundtrack on my wish list for 4 months before it came out. When it was finally released, it took me 3 months for find it in a local store, and even then, they had to order it. Within a year it was stolen, and I've been checking local shops again ever since. I then turned to amazon as a last resort and was pleased to find such a low price. Some people complain about the sounds of cars.... look at the title of the soundtrack, and what the theme is, DUH! Who's the idiot now? And to be "assulted"? Obviously you don't have enough brains to realize what a SOUNDTRACK is. A collection of DIFFERENT bands/music genres. Such great music, if only my drive to work were longer.
If you like driving you'll love this.......2005-05-21
This is a great album and goes very well with the game, if you like the game you'll love listening to this while you're driving in real traffic or just taking those fast turns in your porsche. Even though there's not many tracks it's definately worth buying if you enjoy music that's not really mainstream I'd say buy it even if you haven't played the game.
Almost there..........2004-05-05
A nice complilation with many great artists and some good yet unheard songs. Rob Zombie, Creed, Garbage, Filter, Cardigans and Fear Factory are the ones that clearly make the album worthwhile. The rest are fillers but a good hear. The reason this is not a 4 or 5 star is because the song that is clearly the best was left out. Im no great fan of Stone Temple Pilots, but was hooked when i first heard the song, and was dissapointed to know that it was not included in the soundtrach. Overall a good album if you don't already have most of the songs. Without Dragula, it might have been 2 stars.
One of the best game soundtracks ever.......2003-03-29
Back then I was play station maniac and GT2 was one of my favorite games.
Game itself is great and soundtrack is the best.
Cardigans, Rob Zombie, Garbage and other artists are great.
This soundtrack is great for party's and it's great for anyone with great music taste.
I love this
Everybody should have their own copy of this soundtrack

Great Game Great Soundtrack .......2005-01-30
Yes this Game has loads of Cars Tracks more of the same thing like GT2 and 3. The music is more light than the GT3 A spec Soundtrack but still it packs quite a punch. I would recommend getting this sound track. Though most of the songs are bascially remixes from GT3 It's still a good soundtrack track over all and the last songs from 19-22 are done by Daiki Kasho. He also did GT3 A Spec songs like Sky Scraper and other songs from the the Japanese and US verison man it's a major trag that there is a difference from the Japanese soundtrack and they don't have a US version. But hey I'm not complaining. Get the Soundtrack while you still can. I give it 4 stars because most of the songs are a bit softer except for the last 3 songs.

The album is great. When i get inside my 2000 Dodge Interpid I play this CD with my 10's blasting away and everyone looking at me while stopping at a red light. It would of been 5 stars if they also included Powerman 5000 and the other bands that also contribute to the Game but hey I'm not complaining. Get it while you still can.

Refreshing.......2005-12-30
This is a real dream team of psy/goa trance on this compilation. I just stumbled across this disc and I am incredibly thrilled. This music is just plain awesome. Some of the most powerful trance I have heard in years is right here on this disc. Only one track wasnt quite up to par for me (Quadra) but overall this CD is going to be in my 5 disc changer for quite some time.
music for racing..........2005-05-13
this selection is a bit obscure, I stumbled on the artist quadra while playing a japanese video game(beatmania). Upon hearing "Back on Track" I spent awhile trying to get this album. I have to say it is definitely what I expected, a load of creative sounds, some 4 to the 4loor bass! What I really like about this cd generally though, is the quality of beats. This is... intelligent trance...? Anyway, pick this up if you like techno and your looking for that ultimate rush on your car stereo. These songs will really blow your mind. They have a steady beat so you can find the rhythm really quick, but then of course the simplicity of the bass line is accented with many many effects. cross-overs, fly-bys...cascading pads...=> You will literally have music pulsing in volume from one headphone to another, this is really amazing music.
The Race, is a phenomenal track. It really will transport you everytime you hear it, I say the whole album is worth getting if only for this track.
this is lush, intelligent, ...even wondrous, just like trance used to be. Buy this. Trust me.
