About the Artist
In a society where only the strong survive and the weak crumble, comes a band determined and focused to overcome the everyday struggles. Based on the idea of speaking up and believing in yourself, Affliction, a five piece heavy/alternative band from Southeastern Wisconsin has come out of the shadows with their debut CD, Breaking Through.... Affliction is currently playing every show they can with many bands from the Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin area including: Kook, Downface, White Knuckle Trip, Dead Porn Mechanx, Seagrave and others. Along with air-time on 94.1 WJJO and 101.5 WIBA of Madison, WLZR Lazer 103 of Milwaukee, and the college radio scene, Affliction is turning heads in Milwaukee and Madison as well.
Recently Affliction was the on-air studio guest of WJJOs Local Stage which featured an hour interview and included giving away many CDs to the numerous callers.
Affliction is currently working in the studio on a new 10 song album due out sometime in the summer of 1999. The first single, Just One Bullet was released to area radio stations February 28th. Affliction is playing every show that becomes available and are currently seeking a label and opening spots for national acts. Any support you can lend is greatly appreciated!! Band members:
Dave Fontaine-lead/rhythm guitar
Justin Kemp-lead vocals
Jereme Brauch-drums/percussion
Tony Kangas-bass guitar
Dean Gehrmann-Lead/backing vocals

Blood Or Whiskey.......2007-03-30
To start out, I do not like Flogging Molly or Dropkick Murphys at all.
I was a bit hessitant to check out Blood Or Whiskey. I am a Pogues, Popes, Dubliners, and the Wolfe Tones to name a few kinda guy. Blood or Whiskey is a strong band. The CD is good, has that Shane Macgowan rough punk like feel to it but with a little more modern sound.
Like other reviews have stated if you like the soft sound of Flogging Molly you should probably look elsewhere. If you like The Pogues ect you will at least enjoy listing to it from time to time.
Best Band Ever.......2005-07-16
Without a doubt, Blood or Whiskey is my favorite group of all time. The music is catchy and I find that I can't get it out of my head. The lead singer has a very deep raspy voice, and unlike Dropkick or Flogging Molly, Blood or Whiskey are actually based out of Ireland and have a real Irish flair. Blood or Whiskey tend to steer clear of obnoxious guitar riffs and instead stick to banjo and mandolin solos, and some amazing penny whistle solos. Truely a great Irish band with flare and talent.
REAL Irish roots music.......2005-03-12
If you like real Irish roots music ie. The Pogues, The Dubliners, buy this CD. If you're more into over produced pseudo punk bands like Flogging Molly or Dropkick Murphy's, then don't. Blood or Whiskey are very good songwriters who mainly play trad Irish instruments. This is great drinking music, and is perfect for arond St. Paddy's Day and all year long.
TERRIBLE!.......2005-02-04
ok...well if you wanna waste $11.98 than buy this cd cuz thats all you'll be doing is wasting it. I suggest you go out and buy Drunken Lullabies, Swagger, or Within a Mile of Home by Flogging Molly. Blood or Whiskey may be irish but they need to think up a better career...i was very disapointed, especially after having listened to dropkick murphys and flogging molly and then listenin to them...
Great Album!.......2004-05-04
I wasn't sure if I want to get this album after some reviews mentioned that their sound was Irish folk punk rock with a bit of ska. I do listen to ska but blending the three different genres might have over done it. I was wrong. It worked out very well. The other reviews are correct on another thing, if you think this band is anything like Dropkick Murphys or Flogging Molly, these guys are not even close. I did find a few other bands that are similiar. Look for the McGuillicuddys or The Skels. Very similiar in sound. Anyhow, can't wait for the next release.

I happened to stumble upon this band by clicking on their homepage. I liked the name of the band. This duet will not disappoint you. Some people might want to classify Bachelor Girl with Natalie Imbruglia, but they're not even close. They have a more distinct style. It's rock and punk and pop together.
I'm just waiting for the day when the radio stations in my area start playing them. Buses & Trains is great. =)

The most surprising of Motown's first four Lost and Found CDs is this previously unreleased debut album by the Four Tops. Who'd have thought that one of the company's rawest and most emotionally devastating acts ever could achieve such a glow on a song list full of the sort of standards that often embarrassed the likes of the Temptations and the Supremes? Breaking Through is both a thoroughly pleasant listen and a window on the Tops' expertise at sheer vocalization. Loose and vivacious in a way that their hits aren't, it's a different--not better, just different--Tops we hear here. And better late than never. --Rickey Wright

Some Of The Best Tops Material I've Ever Heard.......2006-05-13
The Four Tops formed in 1954 as: Levi Stubbs, Abdul "Duke" Fakir, Lawrence Payton and Renaldo "Obie" Benson as the Four Aims. Not wanting to be confused with the Ames Brothers their changed their name to the Four Tops. From 1954 to 1963 the Four Tops recorded for three labels: Rooftop, Chess, and Columbia before signing with Motown Records. During their pre Motown career, the Four Tops established themselves as one of the premie jazz vocal groups in Detroit, and the east coast. Breaking Through was to be their first outing with the label. The album was about to be released when marketing research showed that the jazz market was falling, and the album was shelved. Breaking Through may be the finest examples of the Four Tops harmony on record. The album starts with the Obie Benson lead "This Can't Be Love" and sets the tone for the whole record. Obie gives a great lead on the song. Other stand outs include: "Gee Baby, Ain't I Good To You, Nice and Easy, Stranger on the Shore, If My Heart Could Sing",and many others. The best track on the record is a unreleased live recording of Billy Eckstine and the Four Tops singing "I'm Falling For You", and it ends the record on a great note. Breaking Through is truly a tremendous record, and a must by for music fans.
Great Series!.......2003-06-30
BREAKING THROUGH proves the versatility of the Four Tops. Starting out as a jazz quartet, you can hear the tight harmonies in this group. Levi Stubb's voice still grabs at you on these jazz standards. The Tops even switched leads, with Obie Benson on "This Can't Be Love". I hope Motown comes out with lots more of this series!
a must have.......2000-02-23
just doing a song with Billy Eckstine is a must.the arrangements and vocals are great.Motown was so Hit driven at the early stages that gems like this get over looked.these artists of today would love to have one good album let alone one good song.this group is one of the all-time great vocal groups ever.this disc takes them to another Level and they were already pretty high.
TOPS!!!!!!!!!.......1999-11-03
"Breakin Through" is all that a Four Tops fan could hope for. With "young and strong voices" and a sophisicated smooth jazzy arrangement, "Breakin Through" showcases the Tops in a way never heard before!!!! "Maybe Today" is a beautiful beautiful jazz ballad. Gives greater insight into who the Tops are/were as you can actually "hear" all of them on this package. Manhattan Transfer, Take Six, Bobby McFerrin and New York Voices all owe a little to the Tops without even knowing it. Great Album!!!! I love it!!!
Nothing Can Match "Indestructible"...........1999-10-04
The best thing they ever did was "a warm solid love nothing can penetrate"....The track was "Indestructible"...The one about "Gloom and Doom", "Bernadette", and "Standing in the Shadows" was OK, but I would buy a Diana Ross or Brian McKnight album instead-the recent ones...

Transported Into Nature.......2006-08-04
Everytime I listen to this, whether I'm at home or in the car, I am transported right into nature. It's one of the best nature recordings I own. Dan Gibson does a wonderful job of melding music and nature. Highly recommended!
Do you have an imagination? .......2005-04-12
I have had this disk for many years. I like to see if I recognize the various types of birds and animals that Dan Gibson has so faithfully recorded and set to wonderful music. Do you SEE the mist slowly drifting across the lake or woodlands and hear the echos from the deep woods?
Track 10, "Celestial Blanket" is one of my favorites from this disk. It is very easy to close your eyes and imagine that you are outdoors on warm summer's night, perhaps laying on the ground and looking up at the sky. Hear the owl, the frogs and the crickets. Do you SEE the "blanket" of the stars covering the "bed" of the world? Do you FEEL the vast immensity of the canopy of the sky, and perhaps, just perhaps, relize that we are on a tiny ball in the vastness of space? I do and all the nighttime sounds say that the animals do. The bells at the end tell me that God is in His heaven and everything is right with the world. What a wonderfully marvelous way to end the day!
This album was great........1999-05-04
This album was unbelievable! It is the best new age album ever. The smooth, rolling melodies take you to a place that you can go with no other music! It's great!

Album Description
THE FIRST CIVIL WAR SYMPHONY OR ITS KIND - Todd Goodman's Symphony No. 1 "Fields of Crimson" is the creative and evocative retelling of the battle of Gettysburg through the power of music. The five movement work takes the listener through pre-battle preparations, the three days of battle, and a heart warming elegy. Feelings of anxiousness, terror, horror, relief and excitement are well placed emotions felt throughout the listening of this tremendous new work. The Composer writes: When I was a boy growing up in central Pennsylvania, the Civil War was an omnipresent theme. Although people didn't speak much about it, the ruins of battlefields, historical markers, and monuments, just to name a few, were always its constant reminder. The older I got, the more I realized how integral these few years of history were to the molding of the foundation of America. When I finally visited these battlefields, the impression left on my mind was one of humble and noble awe. Lives were lost for freedom; freedom from tyranny, freedom of rights, and freedom for life. Symphony No. 1 "Fields of Crimson" is my rendition of this story; my realization and understanding of the necessary horrible evil of war
and my memorial.
Customer Reviews:
Something New About Gettysburg.......2005-02-16
A moving work combining narration and beautiful music. The task of bringing something new to the battle of Gettysburg is a daunting one. Mr. Goodman's work has realized that goal brilliantly. From the opening movement, the sense of the ominous events to come is evident. The use of a narrator, speaking the words of a young child, effectively adds dimension to this story. We hear the child move from a sense of excitement and wonder through revulsion to resignation and the music underscores that journey effectively. The second movement describing the build up to the battle with its shades of Ives is wonderful and the heartfelt epilogue to the battle brings home the cost of such insanity better than words could alone.
- Jack Rose, executive director Granite State Symphony Orchestra
Wonderful New Work.......2003-12-13
In its entirety, Todd Goodman's Symphony No. 1, "The Fields of Crimson," has very much impressed me. In the right state of mind, it can be relaxing ands easy to listen to. While I am not an expert on music, I do know what I like, and in many ways I would place this symphony in a class with the works of Wolfgang Amedeus Mozart.
Symphony No. 1, "Crimson Fields," also reminds me of the sound track from Ken Burn's film "The Civil War," however, Todd's symphony is far better in my opinion. The use of dialogue between the musical selections not only emphasizes the music itself but also adds to the emotions that the music conveys to the listener.
The musical selection, "June 30, 1863," makes you think of a quiet morning and a peaceful military camp whose tranquility is suddenly broken by the sounds of a bugle ringing out "The Assembly." In your mind there is a picture of the troops forming ranks and marching out to do battle. You can also hear and sense the foreboding of the soldiers and the uneasiness of the camp as darkness transcends upon it.
The musical selection, "Day One," conveys the unsettled feeling that has permeated the area surrounding the town of Gettysburg. The random firing of shots in an early morning skirmish. There is also an image that at the end of the day, the troops are fatigued and feel beaten, but they have not lost their drive or will to win. They are more determined than ever to have a good showing in their next battle, whether it be tomorrow or the day after.
In "Day Two," the music starts off by giving you a picture of calmness with just a hint of a seriousness or drive in the air. As the rhythm and volume of the music mounts, the listener becomes aware that reinforcements are being brought up to the battle field. In the case of the Union Army, these reinforcements are being rushed into the line to fill holes created by the various attacks along their lines. The Confederate Army is rushing their reinforcements into the battle to strengthen their attack.
"Day Three" makes the listener realize that something is not quite right. A morbid reality falls across the troops in both the Confederate and Union Armies. As the intensity of this selection rises, a student of history begins to think about the two hour artillery bombardment that occurred at the Battle of Gettysburg and its futility. Towards the end of this selection you realize the enormous loss of lives to both the Union and Confederate Armies and the heavy loss of resources to the Confederacy.
The final selection, "Remembrance," is almost melancholy. It continues to drive home how heavy the losses were to both sides during the Battle of Gettysburg. However, it also makes you realize that you are proud to be an American and are thankful for the freedoms which we enjoy, do to the sacrifices of those individuals who gave their lives not only at the Battle of Gettysburg, but in every war or conflict since that devastating battle.
This work has truly been a pleasure and I would strongly encourage anyone who has the opportunity to attend a performance of this work to do so. I also want to invite anyone who appreciates good music and or history to purchase a copy of Todd Goodman's Symphony No.1, "Crimson Fields". I truly believe that you will be as impressed as I have been with this magnificent work of music.
"Fields of Crimson".......2003-08-18
The music world is definitely going to hear more from and about this talented young composer.
WOW!.......2003-07-27
All I can say is WOW! What a powerful piece.

BREAKING THROUGH LIFE'S STRESS.......2001-08-12
This CD is sure to have you forget about your stress, on your toes, singing in the shower and dancing like no one is watching. "Breaking Through," an assortment of artists, has you toe tapping to previous club hits from the late 90's and early 2000. This one CD is all I need to wake up to or come home to (if I need an re-energizing moment) to break through a sour mood. I am confident that you'll agree when your CD arrives.
