About the Artist
TOOBIT is a band that was born in the underground club scene. A mix of deep garage rhythms, hard-core synthesizer bites, and lush samples separate this duo from the average DJ act when it comes to moving the dance-floor. While their debut album, "Bomb the Burbs", rocks any stereo it's played on, these two have created one of the most unique spectacles in electronic music's history to make a live show that is nothing short of amazing. Live video projections and pro stage lighting are tied to an array of synthesizers, computers, and samplers to immerse the audience in a total universe. When they started work as TOOBIT in 1998, the vibe between Selino Valdes and Kim Ann Foxman was obvious as they met on the crowded dancefloor of San Franciscos infamous Justice League. Selino had been an established DJ in the SF club scene for almost a decade before making the leap to producer. His first two releases (a white label Björk remix, and a self titled six track EP) received little attention as he learned the ropes of the music biz. It wasnt until the release of his second single,"Violence" released on PHONYC Records©, that the electronic music scene began to turn eyes on this up-and-coming producer. Kim Ann, coming from a family of successful jewelers, had been working on her own line of jewelery (now known as Smudgeproof) for years when she was approached by Selino to start making beats. After one experimental session in the studio it was obvious that these two had become partners in crime.
Album Description
Kim Ann Foxman and Selino Valdes have returned with another set of electronic textures, samples, and fat beats. Analog Modeling is a collection of smooth tempo electronica clearly inspired by the likes of Future Sound of London and Meat Beat Manifesto. While some of the San Francisco audio production scene is focusing on the noise movement, Toobit continues to move forward with audio experimentation that does not alienate the dance floor crowd.
