There's a classic episode of The Little Rascals where one of the gang can't join everybody else on the ballfield because he has to stay home with his younger brother, who has the croup. "I can't come out and play," he whines. "I've got to stay home and grease Wheezer!" Nobody at Geffen Records knows whether this was the inspiration in naming Weezer, but it makes sense. Like many of their peers, the members of the Los Angeles quartet seem to have spent their formative years in front of the TV; when they were a little older, they were just as entranced by college rock. Finally, ala the Rascals, one of the gang said, "Hey, kids, let's put on a show!," and the result is Weezer's uplifting, unpretentious, and extremely endearing debut.
The self-titled Weezer is lean and mean at 10 short, punchy tunes, but nearly every one is powered by a larger-than-life chorus or a simple but effective lyric. "Undone-The Sweater Song" uses an unraveling sweater as a metaphor for a relationship on the rocks; "Buddy Holly" pays heartfelt tribute to the '50s rocker, and "In the Garage" paints a scene of suburban teens jamming while surrounded by posters of Kiss. Producer Ric Ocasek of Cars fame pushes the vocals and rhythm guitars, and this bare-bones approach may earn comparisons to fellow garage-pop band Green Day. But Weezer has more in common with the late, lamented Big Dipper, another group of slacker wiseguys that you just had to love. --Jim DeRogatis

easy listening album.......2007-07-18
this album is great! standouts are buddy holly, say it aint so and of course the sweater song but each and every song has something to offer. i think this band was was overlooked due to the huge popularity of nirvana, pearl jam and stone temple pilots. i got into this album years after its release and am glad i finally picked up a copy. the album is short, little over 40 minutes with 10 songs (why i gave it 4 stars). also check out their green album.
90's was a great year for alternative rock.......2007-07-16
Weezer was a great rock band because they really stayed away from the rock and roll image (anti-rock star) and gave the alternative scene a great taste of geek rock than wasn't seen since The Descendants (Milo no doubt had influence on River's image). I don't approve of River's hating his fans for no reason (at least some of the good ones who don't ask for anything), although I sometimes did (the stalker type of fans who always want something).
The music, it's great music, it's not very technical, but they do great musically, so what do I care? The lyrics are decent, they don't take much time to figure out but their points are real and there isn't a single hint of fake (unless of course they are making an imaginary scene) emotion. Weezer is not an emo band either, there's a difference between emotion in rock and roll and just __________ emo. Weezer is the first. Weezer have plenty of emotion, yet these guys do like to have fun too. You can trust Weezer than they aren't pulling your leg with fake emotion.
Besides the lyrics, the music makes Weezer, _______ Weezer! IT's not technical, but the guitars are melodic and catchy. IT's also easy to sing along with Rivers, who never whines, and just sings. They might be compared to Green Day, although they are slower, and put a lot of melody onto their music instead. Weezer sound like a band that can be easily imitated, but it's actually so hard to do.
It's not the best album ever, but I enjoyed it. I took some stars off because I don't think it's always easy to dive into, it takes a bit of a mood. I reccomend buying it, and especialy Pinkerton, which is a bit unusual, yet totally different, but still Weezer. That's one of the best things a band can do.
Don't forget to try Milo Goes To College by The Descendants when your done.
8.5/10
A must own for any fan.......2007-06-27
This is where it all began and it's one of the best indie albums out there.
One of the greats of all time..........2007-06-07
I was a freshman in high school when this album came out, and, actually, I had to let it grow on me after I bought it. Now, 13 years later (damn, has it been that long?), it is, in my opinion, one of the greatest rock albums ever made. I listen to it only once in a while now, but every time I am blown away by the sheer quality of every track. The nuances of the guitars crunching through some old-school amps, the un-engineered sound of the drums, the genuine-ness of the vocals (does anyone else think Rivers is trying too hard on all their other albums?), all combine to make a perfect rock sound.
No band or album has ever had a bigger influence on my musical preferences. The only album that even comes close is Jimmy Eat World's 'Futures,' mostly because I deeply relate to most of the lyrics (it's a great album - listen to it).
'Only in Dreams' is epic, with one of the most spectacular slow-build crescendos ever and some sweet guitar and drum-work. Truly every song on the album is fantastic, and I have a really hard time picking out my favorite, because it changes every time I listen to the album.
Enough hyperbole. Listen to this album. Loud. Then listen to it again. And again.
Awesome!.......2007-05-31
I am relatively new to Weezer, and if you asked me a month ago who they were I couldnt tell you. My sister got an Ipod and didnt need her CD's any more so they were passed along to me. As I was listening to the CD's this one caught my ear. Within the first 2 songs I was in love!
Weezer is a great band! I love them, and if you dont own this album BUY IT! You will LOVE it!

Weezer, those geek rockers who topped mid-'90s charts with those oh-so-precious pop fables "Undone (The Sweater Song)" and "Buddy Holly," were almost undone by 1997's bombastic Pinkerton. Their sophomore release turned its back on the band's clean-cut debut, with a thrash approach more influenced by Sabbath and Kiss than the Beach Boys. On their third album (self-titled, like their first, but referred to as the "Green Album"), the band makes a concentrated effort to return to anthemic '60s punky pop, demonstrating that, for Weezer at least, it's rather easy being green. In fact, one could say they're almost as green as Green Day, especially on "Knockdown Dragout." At their best, Weezer show such boundless energy and gleeful aplomb that you'd swear you were listening to a lost Badfinger album. Conversely, Rivers Cuomo's twisted genius makes its way onto the anxious and paranoid "Hash Pipe" and the jittery "Glorious Days," making the "Green Album" the most absorbing and rounded vision from these pop masters yet. --Jaan Uhelszki
Customer Reviews:
Beware of CD errors.......2007-06-27
Hash Pipe is occasionally mis-burned on copies of the Green Album so when you get your copy, make sure Hash Pipe is greater than 3 minutes long. Otherwise...talk about a brilliant album.
Joyous Little Record. .......2007-06-19
I've had this CD for several years and am only now taking the time to mention it but the Green Album is an even and invigorating release. It's short but it raises your blood pressure a little bit with every listen. I find it arousing and elevating which are emotions that all of us can use in the course of the day. I'd have to rate it slightly ahead of Maladroit on the Weezer scale--a good buy.
Nice, but the synapses are already there.......2006-08-12
Weezer know what you like because you have heard it before. I guess in a way I would give this 3 1/2 stars. It really is just a continuation of their debut. They could package the two discs together and you really wouldn't be able to tell they were done 7 years apart.
You get it with the first listening, instantly enjoyable. But that often means it will get old fast and this one does. They take the best of power pop and they do it well. I can't recommend the disc as a whole but there are some songs worth downloading.
100% Fun.......2006-08-09
There has been much debate among critics and fans alike as to which Weezer album is the best. Although not often cited as Weezer's best, the Green Album arguably offers the goods more than any of their other albums in the category of basic rock n' roll fun. This by and large is because the melodies on the record are of the highest order. The melodies here not only are more consistent than those heard on the other Weezer albums, but superior to just about any album released in the last decade. While some might dismiss the album as nothing original, very few artists carry out the pop/punk style as good as Weezer. Catchy pop/punk songs such as the ones demonstrated here will never go out of fashion. In fact, the album often reminds one of a distorted Beatles.
The lyrics generally are more straightforward and love song oriented than on other Weezer albums, but they're not devoid of the occasional clever line, such as "you'll play it so monastic that you blow it" in Photograph. All of the songs on the Green Album are abundant in their pop hooks, and usually fall under the three minute mark. By the standards of the last decade, ten songs and twenty-eight minutes represent an extremely short running time, but there is not a single wasted note to be heard anywhere on the disc. This is refreshing in the era of digital recording, an era known to utilize click tracks and longer running times. These practices have not often resulted in punchy and attention grabbing music, even if plenty of fine material has been released. The decision to cut back on certain prevailing excesses of the time, (in addition to the catchy melodies), has actually caused the Green Album to stand out favorably in its era. When all is said and done, each of the five Weezer albums have moments and songs worthy of praise, but arguably no Weezer record is as much fun as the Green Album.
Uhmm..........2006-07-25
What a waste of time and money. 10 songs and hardly 20-30 minutes... of pure mediocrity.
Weezer is an amazing band...just don't bother on this one folks. Pinkerton and the Blue album are just classics. I Respect those guys a whole lot.
This is just...disappointing to say the least. It's just BAD, even for a Weezer fan. Lately Weezer has been trying to do with their nerd-rock label and are going for an almost loveable, adorable sort cutesy label.
I can't make myself clear enough. Don't go near this album, it's just the bottom of the corporate barrel.

A hit single can be a bit of a mixed blessing for new bands, especially if said song gets you firmly lumped into the "novelty band" category. Such was the case with Weezer, whose runaway hit "Buddy Holly" touched a global nerve upon its release, then got on everyone's nerves after months of radio saturation. However, it did ensure that they sold millions of copies of their self-titled debut. Which is why it's so strange that their second album, Pinkerton, was ignored. Perhaps the cold shoulder was due to the willfully noncommercial first single, "El Scorcho," which crashed and burned. Whatever the reason, Pinkerton soon disappeared, which is a shame because it's a great album. Whereas Weezer reveled in the band's geek-rock image, Pinkerton saw Rivers Cuomo maturing as a lyricist. From the opening, "Tired of Sex," which rants about the frustrating easiness of groupies, to the new wave pop of "Getchoo" to the epic genius of "The Good Life," there's much more diversity here than the Pixies-influenced bouncy grunge of their debut. With the closing solo, the acoustic lament "Butterfly," Cuomo demonstrates a pop mastery that promises great things from this reformed geek. --Robert Burrow
Customer Reviews:
Weezer's Best Album.......2007-07-15
Any true Weezer fan will tell you that Pinkerton, the band's second album is it's best. Considered a failure compared to other releases by the band, Pinkerton is the least accessible of their albums. What's more is the band isn't fond of playing these songs live anymore. So it's kind of a well known "hidden classic" among fans. All of the ten songs presented here are performed with much more emotion than any other of the band's albums. From top to bottom a sing-a-long masterpiece.
A guitar player's view.......2007-07-02
After listening to all Weezer albums except this one, and being slightly disappointed with Make Believe, I decided to go back and see what Pinkerton was all about.
People argue that Weezer is just power chords and that's it, but Rivers does so many amazing things with such a simple idea. Not many people could write these riffs, solos, and key changes all in a 3 minute song and make every single one sound different. This album has Weezer's best drumming, bass playing, lyrics, and guitar work (better solos in Maladroit maybe). Put on a pair of headphones and listen to the killer distortion and the awesome lead riffs that creep up in every song. Rivers put his heart on his sleeve for this album, but thanks to the critics and fans that abandoned him when this album was released, he probably never will again.
Not just Weezer's best, but one of my favorite albums ever.......2007-04-28
This is one of those albums that I can turn on and enjoy every track from top to bottom over and over and OVER again. 'Across the Sea' is one of my favorite songs by ANY group, and the hat trick of tracks 5-6-7 can hang with anything in my music collection. Like others have said, this album may not capture you the first time through, but give it a chance and it will grab hold of you and never let go.
For Pre-Green Album Weezer Fans........2007-04-16
Reading through these reviews, I get a sense that most of the low-star ratings for this album are coming from a Post-Green Album fan base. My personal order of buying Weezer albums was 1.) Blue Album 2.)Green Album and 3.)Pinkerton. Certainly both "color" albums provided a lot of Pop tunes that were widely accessible to listeners. On it's surface, Pinkerton doesn't quite provide the same ready-made Pop sensibilities as the other two albums. However, Pinkerton does have an unmatched depth and rawness that the other two lack. Admittedly, I had to work a little more to get into these songs, but when it hit, it hit hard and has stuck ever since. Without hesitation, I always say that this is my favorite Weezer album. If you decide to give this album a try do so with an open mind and the willingness to give it some time. The payoff is well worth it.
One of the greatest albums of all time.......2007-04-02
yes, it seriously is. There are so many people who say that this album is their worst and I just don't know where they put their ears. This is their best album.
You can hear how this album just influences everything that came after it. It's so passionately written and just so real and it almost gives you a completely reminiscent feeling...(well maybe for me because when i first heard this album I was younger)
but at any rate this album is in my top 10 best albums to listen to.

Taking three-years between albums has made Weezer grow slower and more sober. But on its fifth disc the Los Angeles quartet is no more secure about its place in the world than it was a decade ago in longing tunes like "The World Has Turned And Left Me Here." Singer Rivers Cuomo, still struggling with adolescence at 34, is all apologies. "All I have to do is swing and I'm the hero/ But I'm a zero," he sings on "Perfect Situation," and "I am terrified of all things/ Frightened of the dark," on the lighters-aloft power ballad "Hold Me." The band, meanwhile, keeps things from getting too heavy by punctuating the songs with a familiar rush of bouncy new-wave melodies and fizzing power-pop riffs resulting in the hair-flinging metal of the future D.A.R.E. theme song and album high-point, "We Are All On Drugs." --Aidin Vaziri
Customer Reviews:
Blue Album, Green Album, this album.......2007-06-27
There are three Weezer albums that I feel are truly excellent. Nope, Pinkerton is not one of them.
If you like the singles and you're tired of the emo kids telling you to listen to Pinkerton some more, then this is the album for you.
Got old quickly!.......2007-06-04
Beverly Hills sounded really good in the summer of 2005, but for some reason, this CD got old fast! The rest of the album just wasn't me. If it held up well, I'd give it four stars.
Perfect Situation.......2007-05-16
When listening to this CD for the first time i felt like it had been written just for me. Every song sang felt like something i would say. I could look at each song and connect it to an event in my life. I do want to be in Beverly Hills, In the perfect situation i have let love down the drain, i really do just want someone to hold me, i do need to find some peace, we are all on drugs, i do have damage in my heart that i need to let go, i would like to be pardoned, i do love my best friend, i do just look the other way, lots of people do freak me out, and i am going to haunt you everyday. I could listen to this CD for hours and it really helped me through some hard times where i could know that i'm not alone. I would recomend it to anyone, some of it is a little slow and sad, but it has it's upbeat moments too. So don't just turn the other way, buy this CD... lol... and no, i'm not trying to sell this...
Great Album.......2006-11-29
There are a few people bashing this Album. At first, I really didn't get into this cd. After awhile it got hooked on me. I love every song on this album. I'm def. looking forward to future Weezer Albums.
So polished, you can see right through it.......2006-10-25
This album is easily inferior to Weezer's previous classics, the 'Blue' album and "Pinkerton". However, I get the feeling that people pretty much stopped expecting greatness out of Weezer after "Maladroit", anyway...
That being said, this album is nowhere near as good as their earlier output, but in fairness is also much less unlistenable than the 'Green' album. Don't expect any of these songs to grab you, but don't expect to be completely disgusted, either. If you're not too picky when it comes to harmless, bubble-gum power-pop, you're bound to like some aspects of this album. "Perfect Situation" and "The Damage In Your Heart" are both perfectly decent songs. It's just that two of the singles from this album, "Beverly Hills" and "We Are All on Drugs", are hands down the two worst songs that Weezer have ever recorded. The other songs? They didn't seem to leave much of an impression on me one way or another. This album is for die-hard Weezer fans only...or at least the die-hard Weezer fans not already turned off by the steadily decreasing quality of their musical output, anyway.
It's disappointing to see this band lower their standards to this harmless, forgettable batch of songs. We know the greatness that Weezer is capable of, but we've seen only faint glimmers of it since they came back in 2001. It makes one wonder if they should have even come back in the first place. Sure, they've had a run of success to rival their mid 90's hey-day, but nobody is going to remember this album in 10 years. I can gurantee you, however, that people out there are still going to be talking about the Blue album and "Pinkerton" at that point in time. They're found success, but at the expense of their previous musical legacy.
There have been rumors that this is in fact their last album. It's probably for the best.

After taking five leisurely years to follow up on 1996's Pinkerton, Weezer are apparently on a roll. Arriving just over 12 months after The Green Album, Maladroit finds the Los Angeles power-pop band in the midst of a particularly fertile creative period. "Dope Nose," which is easily stronger than anything on the last album, flexes a sinister shout-along chorus and vintage Van Halen riffs, while the potent garage-punk blast of "Fall Together" wipes out any lingering discomfort over the thoroughly Sugar Ray-sounding "Island in the Sun." In a sense The Green Album was just a taster for this, the blissfully thunderous main dish. Sure, there are some deadpan emo moments ("Death and Destruction") littering the course, but mostly Maladroit is Weezer doing what they do best--inverting and embracing dumb rock stereotypes and somehow making them sound smart. --Aidin Vaziri

Very solid album by a band many people thought had burnt out.......2007-07-07
All the hype around Weezer always seems to be surrounding their debut album and green album. Any fan with the slightest liking of that band will find this album to be essential, with it's onslaught of rocking guitar and heavy but melodic music, it'l definately be a winnner. If you've enjoyed listening to weezer throughout any of their progression as a band, this is a must as a purchase.
Quality Not Quantity..........2007-06-30
Weezer's fourth studio album entitled "Maladroit" was released on May 14, 2002, only one year after its predecessor. There was no shortage of material for the album as the band had dozens of different versions of over thirty different songs circulating on the Internet prior to the release. After an experimental approach in the recording process, the band settled on 13 tracks displaying a harder-edged version of the pop-influenced formula that has made them famous. Though the band had an abundant amount of material to choose from, the quality of "Maladroit" falls short of potential. Below, please find the rating for each song individually:
American Gigolo - 7/10
Dope Nose - 7/10
Keep Fishin' - 10/10
Take Control - 7/10
Death And Destruction - 6/10
Slob - 5/10
Burndt Jamb - 6/10
Space Rock - 3/10
Slave - 5/10
Fall Together - 7/10
Possibilities - 5/10
Love Explosion - 5/10

Still good, but they have better.......2007-06-27
Look for the Blue album, Green album or their most recent album first before you start getting into their less popular material. This album is still great for any fan, but make sure you get some of their other albums first.
second only to Pinkerton.......2007-01-10
this is the second best Weezer album. It just overtook the "Blue Album" to become the second best. "Pinkerton" is the best, although Rivers once said in an interview that he thought Pinkerton was the worst album they did. Wow, he is so wrong.
let's recap:
1 - Pinkerton
2 - Maladroit
3 - the blue album (the first one)
When Pinkerton grows old..........2006-09-06
Weezer is a guilty pleasure of mine; I have four of their albums in my audio collection and I listen to their tunes on ocasion, but when people ask me what I listen to, I will tell them Nirvana or something else. I avoid talking about Weezer because they are a bunch of geeks and the people who listen to Weezer are a bunh of geeks to.
I do not think of myself as a geek, a dork, a nerd, or someboy who needs to be thrown in a locker for being a social outcast. But I will say, "Maladroit" is a pretty damn catchy piece of pop rock.
I love "Pinkerton" (and the second disc "Dusty Gems and Raw Nuggets" which was released with the delux version of the Blue Album) and "Maladoit" has a distinctly different feel than other Weezer material. Perhaps that is why I like this album.
If every album sounded like "Pinkerton" or the Blue Album, we might grow tired of Weezer in a hurry- especially we who are NOT nerds.
"Maladroit" is a very smooth and heavy album. Buy it for a low price and listen to it when you've heard "Pinkerton" over a hundred times. And don't tell anybody I like Weezer...

Disappointed.......2007-03-24
I don't understand where they went a rye but somehow todd did. I am a die-hard Toadies fan I mean I love that band so I assumed I would love his new band Burden Brothers. But to my amazement I hated most of this album it is too soft for me and sounds way too pop rock radio compliant. Bring back your Toadies rawness and this band will be alright.
This is "Real Rock Music".......2006-12-18
Finally we have some "Real Rock Music" to listen to besides all this fake stuff that's out there. I've even converted my teenage kids over to the Burden Brothers. Vaden Lewis has amazing vocal command on this CD, and all the songs are awesome. This CD is definately going to be in my top 10 of all time. If you like to crank up your rock music and listen to some awesome riffage and great lyrics......this CD is for you. You won't be disappointed!
Great Dallas band.......2005-09-16
This is a quick review.....If you like the Toadies, then you'll love this band. They have an "in your face" edge to them but still show a softer side as well. They show that they have a great style of music and a depth in their lyrics. Very nice band to become acquainted with on a regular basis.
Exactly Like a Toadies Album.......2005-04-23
If you are a fan of any of the 2 Toadies albums, you will be a fan of this one. There is a healthy mix of outstanding, midline, and yucky songs on this album as there have been in Todd's last two. Buy it, but for heaven's sake you cannot ever judge an album after just a few listens unless you are basing things on something like foul language (which Burden Bros have certainly maintained here). Songs to preview are If You're Going to Heaven, Your Fault, Beautiful Night and Shadow.
Just horrible.......2005-04-05
First off, let me explain my own musical preferences. I enjoy Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, QOTSA, Dandy Warhols, Kyuss, Toadies. I could go on, I just wanna give you an idea of what I like, so you can gauge my reaction to this album accordingly.
This is one of the worst albums I've ever heard. I was so incredibly dissapointed when I listened to it. I'm a pretty big fan of Toadies; this is nothing like Toadies. Every song sounds the same, Lewis doesn't change his vocals throughout the entire CD. I was expecting so much from this group considering their past endeavors, but even the instrumental part of the album is ridiculously lacking. I just don't know what happened. I bought this CD off of Amazon, when I received it I immediately put it in my CD payer and I disliked it so much I put it up for sale on Amazon the next day. I haven't been to any of their live shows, so those may rock, but this CD sucks. I'm not sure what the other reviewers are thinkin. If you can, I recommend going to your local used cd store and if they have a listening station, listen to this cd before you buy it. Do not waste even five bucks on this cd unless you listen to it first and like it. If you want a cd that rocks, buy the first Queens of the Stone Age cd or maybe the Kyuss cd Blues for the Red Sun. Or really, just buy anything BUT this Burden Brothers cd.

Weezer was one of the unlikeliest success stories of the post-Nirvana alt. rock boom, a band whose initial multi-platinum success (spawning the successful singles "Buddy Holly," "Undone," and "Say It Ain't So" and high-profile videos by Spike Jonze in its wake) was arguably its most ironic aspect. Indeed, the band's geek-appeal was refreshingly organic, a charm that came sharply into focus on leader Rivers Cuomo's painfully sincere, slice-of-loser-life songs and the energetic, pop-grunge confections the band concocted around them. This deluxe, double-disc edition of one of the '90s key rock albums treats the original collection's 10 tracks to a new, 24-bit digital remastering, as well as insightful liner notes and the reproductions of the songs original, often scrawled lyric sheets. But it's the second disc that will hold the greatest appeal to Weezer fans, gathering 14 tracks that encompass import b-sides and outtakes that include winsome, affectionate odes ("Mykel and Carli," "Suzanne," "Jamie") aimed at everyone from the band's friends to its label personnel and lawyer. Other highlights include the oddball barbershop quartet exercise "My Evaline," several live and acoustic cuts from the album's tour as well a handful of insightful, previously unreleased home and studio demos. --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
very good music.......2007-06-22
I'm mostly a classic rock fan stuck in the 60's and 70's, but Weezer caught my attention upon immediately hearing them for their talent at writing hooky pop songs. They are really good at writing memorable tunes, and they deserve respect for that.
Disc one is great, disc two is...OK.......2006-07-01
Everyone knows and loves disc one, but disc 2 didn't turn my wheels too much. That's probably because I bought it because I loved the recorded versions of the songs on disc one as I remembered them when I originally bought this album.
Royal Blue.......2005-12-04
It ocurred to me when this reissue was released. A modern rock record from my childhood is receiving 10th anniversary reissue treatment. My how time flies! It only seemed like yesterday Rivers and the gang were jamming it out with Opie, the Fonze, and Mr. Myagi (may he r.i.p.) on MTV. For those who remember, MTV once played music videos in the not too distant past. And now, the great quartet known as Weezer is receiving royal treament.
This is classic Weez at its best, and no weezhead should be without this release. The sound quality is improved from the original release, and the packaging is wonderful. Furthermore, the second disc contains many rarities including Suzanne (featured on the Mallrats soundtrack.) My only minor gripe is Say It Ain't So is on the album disc in a remixed version. And by remix, I don't mean a hip-hop or techno remix that is a complete overhaul of the original song. The differences are subtle but quite noticeable for any fan who has spun this album as many times as I have. Fortunately, it is present in its original mix on the 2nd disc. For purists sake, I wish they would have swapped these. Also, a hi-res 5.1 mix of the album would have been a welcome addition, but beggars can't be choosy.
Needless to say, every track on here is a gem. There is not a single piece of filler to be found anywhere within its short 10-track long 30min duration. This is one of the few albums that fully meet my personal criteria for what truly great popular music should be: The songs need to be timeless and memorable. It also helps if the lyrics are singable. Furthermore, it greatly helps if the lyrics are meaningful. On top of that, a great modern rock record should, well, seriousley rock!
=w='s Blue album meets everyone one of these requirements with clever lyrics anyone can sing along to, and the Ric Ocasek production gives their Marshall stacks some serious crunch.
One of the great rock records of modern times. Pickup a copy today!
A Great Way To Revisit A Great Album -- And Then Some!.......2005-04-14
Weezer's infamous self-titled debut (otherwise known as "The Blue Album") is one of the few pieces of music from it's time that still holds up just as well today. When they made their mark in 1994, Kurt Cobain was dead and the music world had already been oversaturated by mumbling, uninspiring grunge clones. Although Weezer never quite changed the musical climate, they did, however, create a quite perfect debut, one that transcends all genres and inspires new bands even today. Few groups that materialized at this time are still around today, but Weezer remain vital, and each song on this ten track debut remains an alternative rock staple. You can't throw a cat in a crowded room without hitting someone who, whether they realize it or not, knows a good Weezer tune. So, it only makes sense that on the tenth anniversary of the release, a Deluxe Edition made it's way with all new artwork and a bonus disc full of b-sides, outtakes, demos, live songs etc. The question is, is it worth buying again?
The answer? A resounding yes. For starters, I'm sure most owners of this album have put plenty of wear and tear on it, what better time to get yourself another copy. And even if it's still in perfect condition, the bonus material is worth it alone, for the Weezer fanatic. I don't have to tell you how good the original album is. You've heard it, you know. It's perfect, front to back. The material on the second disc, while admittedly not as good as the album itself, is still worthy. Take, for example, Rivers' catchy ode to the presidents of the Weezer fanclub, "Mykel and Carli" (who passed away in a tragic car accident), with it's chorus that, in typical Weezer fashion, sticks in your head for the rest of your life. "Suzanne" and "Jamie" are probably the most well-known b-sides among Weezer fans, while a trio of demos -- referred to as "The Kitchen Tapes" -- digs a bit deeper into Weezer history. There are also live songs ("My Name Is Jonas" & "Surf Wax America") and acoustic versions ("Jamie" and "No One Else"), and to top it all off, for the diehard fans, the original mix of "Say It Ain't So" (which was released only in the early pressings of the Blue Album). Also included is a rather elaborate booklet which includes lyrics (finally) and liner notes that chronicle the early history of Weezer. The package is very well done, and surely outshines the bare-bones nature of the original release.
Overall, a good album just got even better. Despite it's price tag, the average Weezer fan just should not be without this. It might make you love the band even more. You definitely get your money's worth. And as I said before, the original album itself is just classic. Say what you will about Weezer's newer material, but this stuff just can't be beat. They definitely deserve their popularity and their place in modern rock royalty. I really think anyone and everyone can appreciate the Blue Album, an accomplishment a lot of musicians cannot acheive.
Great Package .......2005-03-29
Someone else made a comment that the content wasn't enough, but I would have to disagree. First, you get a second disc with all the blue b-sides which I thought was a great idea. Second, the packaging with the extra pictures and song lyrics was cool to. So I don't understand what else one can ask for. The disc was also remastered. This is a must buy for any Weezer fan.

another great cd.......2004-02-18
i've been a big fan of melissa since the mid 90s. if you love her cds, then you will REALLY love her live performances. she is still my all-time favorite person to see live
Intense.......2003-06-01
On this record, Melissa Ferrick has the intensity of Alanis Morissette on her breakout hit You Oughta Know, or of Ani DiFranco on pretty much everything she does.
I bought the cd for one song - Drive. It is an amazing song. It is very sexual. Melissa is a dominant lover, driving her partner to ecstasy. The music accompanies the lyrics perfectly.
All of the other songs on the record have a lot of angst in them. Some of them are as angry as You Oughta Know.
For example, Some Kinda Nerve. Like what am I supposed to do now, just forgive you? So if you think you made a mistake by leaving me, you're too late.
Another song, Hold On, is about the immediacy and transience of passion. I don't know how long this is gonna last. Let me be your drug tonight. Don't ruin this rush for me.
Blind Side has an interesting truth in it. I love everything about you and I don't even know you, so I hope everything I made up about you is true. I really like that line.
The title song is Melissa telling someone that she's just not in love, and she claims her freedom. It's a pretty blunt NO to a marriage proposal, apparently.
Melissa is interesting. I like her guitar and her mind. But she's pretty intense to be around, in most of the songs here.
Very good, but not quite Ani Difranco.......2002-12-01
Melissa Ferrick has a good album here and I will probably buy another one after this experience. Quite frankly though, I had some trouble getting right into it because it doesn't seem much like she's quite into it. The personality and heart comes through a little bit undynamic.
If you want the power, poetry and musicianship kicked up a notch though, click on over to Ani Difranco.
a must have for girl rock lovers.......2002-04-26
I am a huge melissa ferrick fan..but this cd is such a an amazing example of this wonderful singer/songwriter at work! From the first track to the last she keeps you intuned to deep emotions, powerful guitar expression and captivating lyrics. Not only one of my favorite melissa cds but one of my all time favorites out of my collection!
A very engaging CD.......2002-02-06
This is a good CD. Not in any way perfect or timeless or brilliant, but it'll definitely be worth your money and time spent listening. The upbeat songs are my favorite - Blind Side, North Carolina and Some Kinda Nerve. They really get you going and inspire you to sing right along with her.
She's got a voice that's a cross between Ani Difranco and Alanis Morissette. Very strong but nothing all that unique. Although the arrangements are sort of simple, the guitar playing is good. For what it's worth, this has inspired me to purchase another of her CDs.

Customer Reviews:
the weez.......2007-06-21
i think you can pretty much sing along to every song here... great album.
keep it up weezer
Simply simple.......2006-09-14
It seems to me that Weezer has gone steadily downhill since their debut, and I am by no means alone in that opinion. That said, I did not delude myself into expecting a creative rebirth or return to Blue album form on this album, nor will I on their next. Instead, Make Believe is likely Weezer's weakest album to date, but it is not a complete waste of money, as some reviewers have suggested. The production was impressive, as in smooth, but not over-produced. The melodies and instrumentation are halfway decent, but nothing to write home about. The vocals are delivered in the same straight forward manner that Rivers is known for, and again that is nothing mind-blowing, but perfectly sufficent. The only major problem is the lack of interesting lyrics. As the title of this review suggests, the lyrics are simply simple and it seems like the whole album could have been written in the time it takes to listen to it.
Ultimately, there is nothing on this CD that can match any of the 10 from the Blue Album, but that is not saying much considering the Blue Album is, in my opinion, THE most consistent album of all time. The best songs here are "Hold Me", "Peace", "The Damage in Your Heart", "The Other Way", and "Freak Me Out".
I wish I could give it 0 stars........2006-02-20
Pinkerton is my favorite album of all time, closely followed by their debut. If you want Weezer, those are your albums. It breaks my heart to see Weezer putting out this crap.
Cuomo's Celibacy Is Another Victory For The Gene Pool.......2006-01-04
Somewhere along the line I realized that Weezer was actually part of the radio that I hate, instead of how they were once one of the few shining spots in the desolate wasteland otherwise known as today's FM radio stations. The other day I was listening to the radio and a My Chemical Romance song came on and I actually suffered through it and kept it on but when Beverly Hills came on their was no such luck, I turned that radio knob to off. Maybe it is just nostalgia for the Weezer of old that makes me find Weezer's new stuff better than some of the dregs of modern rock radio today, but seriously Weezer are pretty damn bad now. For a long time I was in denial and looking for excuses for why Weezer turned into what they are. In a sense I am still in denial, I pretty firmly believe that this level of suckitude displayed on Maladroit and now Make Believe is due to his decision to be celibate. Once Rivers was a hip nerd, sexually frustrated, occassionally sad and angry, just like the majority of youth and young adults. Now he's turned into some present day mainstream rock Gandhi, instead of not eating to save and free the people of a repressed country, Rivers chooses to give up sex in the name of something.....probably just for a few more articles in the music magazines every year. Anyway, River's indifference towards intimate acts is not the problem, but his apparent indifference towards two mainstays of good music, decent lyrics and catchy melodies. It's as if his attitude towards romance has carried on through the rest of his life. That, or Rivers finally stopped being turned down by asian girls due to his overwhelming popularity and his now just ready to coast on his reputation. Weezer have finally probably achieved what they've always wanted to, popularity and acclaim, and they've done absolutely nothing with it. Since no obstacles exist anymore, no effort is put in and here we have the result, Make Believe. Make Believe hints at Rivers Cuomo being very self-aware and hopes that the great deal of Weezer apologists currently circling around dozens of message boards today will just `make believe' that this isn't a big pile of.....really bland and cliched music. There really anything of any positive value on this album. One plus I can say is that none of this sounds like rehashed Cheap Trick like on Maladroit, but then again a few of these songs sound like rehased Cars. One would wonder how Rivers ever gets through Harvard U with some of the insipid poetry thrown across Make Believe, the chief violator being the single Beverly Hills, which sounds a bit like a b-side of a b-side of Pinkerton that has been thoroughly ravaged through a cover by a local band consisting of thirteen year old girls. Yep, this album is pretty terrible. Maybe it's a good idea Cuomo chooses not to reproduce.
New direction.......2005-12-08
I must contest a point made by a fellow customer/critic on this site. One of the reviews of this album made the claim that weezer has 'gone emo.' I must disagree wholeheartedly with this nonsensical blanket condemnation of Weezer's new direction. I've never been one to analyze too deeply the titles and genres given to pop music. I find it ridiculous how people can engage in arguments of an 'it's not pop-punk, it's power pop,' or 'it's not hardcore, it's metalcore' nature. Having said that, I must briefly engage in such useless palaver by telling you that this CD is very far removed from what most people would consider emo. Make Believe marks the unfortunate maturation of a songwriter whose appeal was that he was immature. Make Believe is not Blue. It is not Pinkerton. It's not anything Weezer has ever done before. It is a collection of pop songs that are, for the first time, pretty much devoid of the infantile, but endearing quirks of one of modern musics musical geniuses. Weezer fans such as myself would enjoy this record a lot more if they could only listen to this album without comparing it to previous Weezer releases. It is catchy, albeit somber at times. It is memorable (I've found myself away from the disc for the past 2 months and have to replay tracks like 'Haunt you everyday'in my head), and it is good. It may not contain the tormented anguish of a very screwed up Rivers, but it certainly does exemplify good pop music.

For hardcore fans only.......2005-04-25
As much as I love Weezer and wanted to like this album, I have to say this CD is lacking in quality. While it is always fun for me to listen to Weezer's live songs it may not be as fun for the casual listener when they forget the words to amazing songs like El Scorcho. The CD cover is cute as hell, though. Inside you can also find comments by Japanese fans in their best attempted English. That to me was cool enough to justify the price I paid for this CD.
Great Live band but cheap product.......2005-03-30
Weezer could have put out a full live album. Instead you get some pasted songs put together and the end is clipped off. 100% not worth buying unless your a die hard fan like me. I love weezer but they need to put out a full live album. Packaging is cool though.
Weezer is just as good live.......2005-01-24
The lion and the witch is a great mixture of songs put on a CD.
Some of the songs that were performed live had not been performed for a while. Such as El Scorcho, Falling for you, and Holiday. What makes these live songs more intresting is the fact Scott Shriner had never performed these songs live before,The songs are 1.polynesia/Dope nose 2.Island in the sun 3.falling for you 4.Death and destruction 5. el scorcho 6.Holiday. this CD is essential for the big weezer fan.
