Great Collection..........2007-07-11
If you are a devote 3EB fan, you probably have all the songs in the collection - all three CDs & some demos - therefore, this CD is not for you! The liner notes are the biggest extra on the CD, but are not worth much as an extra...
On the other hand, for those who like the band but hadn't followed too closely, or do not know where to download the songs unavailable on the group's CDs - this is a perfect collection & very recommended.
Finally a compilation.......2007-06-27
If you're like me and always liked one or two songs from every CD this band has released, then you will be pleased to see this compilation exists. All the hits, all in one place, all for a fairly cheap price. Gotta love it.
Did not disappoint........2007-05-12
As a loyal fan from the beginning, I am proud to say that this collection of songs did not disappoint. However, I would have liked the track "Faster" from their 3rd album to be included. Their music is phenonmenal and this collection is only a glimpse of who they are. I would highly recommend getting all 3 albums.
Three hard-to-find tracks.......2007-03-22
There are exactly three reasons to own this album:
1. Tattoo of the Sun, previously only available with one of their singles. An excellent song that should have been on an album years ago.
2. Slow Motion, with the lyrics, which anyone in the US missed out on. This alone is worth the price. Along with Motorcycle Drive By (also on this album), Slow Motion is Third Eye Blind at their best.
3. My Time in Exile, which is said to be on the DVD release of Out of Vein. Also an excellent track.
Even if you own every other Third Eye Blind album, it's worth it to pick up this one for these songs alone.
Is anyone else surprised that there are 19 songs on this .......2007-02-15
Is anyone else surprised that there are 19 songs on this hits collection? If you can name 6 songs or more that were released during Third Eye Blind's fifteen minutes of fame, then you can't go wrong picking this up. I must admit that the songs I'm not familiar with are just as good as their commercial stuff. Although, if you're among the many that can't name 6 songs, you can hear "Semi-Charmed Life" on the radio everyday.

Groundbreaking debut (4.5/5).......2007-07-09
Third Eye Blind's self-titled 1997 debut is one of my favorite 90s rock albums. This album is one of the finest from the post-grunge period, and put into motion the group that would win over thousands with their well-produced, inspired rock. "Third Eye Blind" is full of very well-written, catchy pop-rock songs, but it's far more artistic than your average mainstream rock. Stephan Jenkins' lyrics are passionate and emotional, expressing despair and depression over failed relationships and problems of life. His vocal delivery ranges from a soft singing to an almost rapped fast pace, and his signature shrieky falsetto is always welcome. The album as a tone has a fairly dark and depressed mood to it, but the upbeat songs emit a much more joyful air. Behind Kevin Cadogan and Arion Salazar's musicianship, the songs are built around catchy guitar riffs that match the vocals perfectly. The songs are extremely catchy and memorable, and the emotion in these songs makes them inspiring and appealing.
My only complaints I would ever have about this album are just towards the end of the tracklist. A few of the slower, sparser, and less memorable songs are grouped towards the end, and a few of these are skippable and similar. I'm not sure about this tan cover that Amazon displays, the only one I've ever been familiar with is the red one.
The tracklist begins with the fast and sad "Losing a Whole Year," about a lost love. The furious guitars are loud and thumping, but Jenkins' vocals and lyrics are soft. "Narcolepsy" is a nice, almost relaxing tune until the end. The #1 single, the unforgettable "Semi-Charmed Life," is without a doubt one of the very best songs of the 90s, a perfectly constructed pop tune. The memorable hook and almost rapped verses, to the bridge and guitar break, this song is a catchy, timeless classic. Just as good is its perfect follower, "Jumper." The spinning, almost acoustic feeling song is an inspiring conversation to a suicidal friend, and the hook and verses are enough to make anyone sing along. "Graduate" is a pounding, heavy song that I like. The slower "How's It Going to Be" was another successful single, a well-written tune. "Thanks a Lot" and "Burning Man" are both very well-produced, they're upbeat and catchy rock songs with meaningful lyrics. "Good for You" and "London" are also enjoyable, exhibiting raw emotion. "I Want You" is one of my favorites, musically laidback and lyrically yearning. The album closes with three slow yet very fulfilling songs, "The Background," "Motorcycle Drive By," and "God of Wine."
"Third Eye Blind" is one of the finest rock albums of the nineties, and it has something that will appeal to everybody. From the catchy, well-written pop tunes, to the emotional lyrics or the musical artistry, there's a lot to love about this debut. I also highly recommend its follow up, 1999's Blue.
one of the finest albums of all time.......2007-06-29
there is something magical about Third Eye Blind, regardless of what most of their songs are referring to, they seep into your psyche and sit there awhile, just playing with your senses. 5 or ten years after the fact, I can still be driving on I-95, heading towards BeanTown at 8am with bumper to bumper traffic, and close my eyes and belt out "God Of Wine" or "Motorcycle Drive By" and I feel alive. I feel this album was made for me, and I feel infinite. I am glad that my favorite, most poetic songs from this album, hardly, if ever got radio play. It would have, in this reviewers opinion, taken the purity and eloquence away from the magic of what those songs are about if it were layed out to the masses and critics at that pathetic, sophmoric Spin magazine.
'The Background' is one of my favorite songs of all time, and 'God of Wine' is a song that should be legendary, like Hotel California. I am just so sorry I missed them on both their shows in this area. I have waited so long to see them live.
Arguably, Third Eye Blind's debut self-titled album, can be layed on pace with Radiohead's "Ok Computer" and The Beatles "The White Album" as some of the finest music to grace our ears. I thank them.
One of my favorite musical experiences of my life; sheer brilliant.
Ken
Terrific record. Classic rock for the next generation........2007-06-20
This record seems to be both extremely underated and extremely overrated. For me, I like all the songs on the record. No, they are not really innovative or songs of musical genius like Bob Dylan or MIles Davis. BUt they are very likable tunes and they have great energy, blue-eyed brash innocence, and a big heart, and that's more than I can ever say about any Dylan or Miles Davis tune I've ever heard.
Poetic Evolution.......2007-06-13
This album is lyrically brilliant. I don't particularly like pop rock, but I think this album is amazing. The lyric's structure closely resembles poetry, in which the listener can discern their own intial meanings to the lyrics and then allow those meanings to evolve with each listen. There are not too many albums that deal with such dark psychological issues with this characteristic.
A Timeless Delight...........2007-04-28
My favorite pop-rock/alternative album of the 90's. Every single song is so dam* good even the last hidden track...The album had at least 5 songs that were released on radio and ended up on top 10 charts...The funny thing is that the rest of the tracks that weren't released are the best tracks!!!

Third Eye Blind's second album will go a long way in helping the San Francisco-based band to shed their corporate-rock label. Less grandiose and obvious than their 1997 debut, the elegantly flawed Blue crackles with energy and dark humor, but doesn't wade in the same pools of gloom and despair as its self-titled predecessor. Frontman Stephan Jenkins has exchanged his intricate stream-of-consciousness musings for more streamlined soulful wordplay. The assertive, inventive guitars recall such big bruisers of yesteryear as Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, but without the heavy-handedness. "Never Let You Go," the album's standout, is as catchy as Rick Springfield's "Jesse's Girl," but with a raw edge and a snarling Jaggeresque rap by Jenkins. Smart, poppy, and ironic, Blue more than solidifies Third Eye Blind's standing as a band on the rise. --Jaan Uhelszki
Customer Reviews:
Happier and thoughtful...another awesome album (4.5/5).......2007-07-06
Third Eye Blind's sophomore effort "Blue" was one of my favorites when it was released in 1999, and it's still an album I listen to fairly regularly even today. Following the multiplatinum smash that was their 1997 debut Third Eye Blind, which had multiple hit singles and established a huge following, "Blue" finds the band in a less depressed mood and rocking a little harder. Something I always admired about 3EB was how they were able to balance commercial success with artistry. Each album had a handful of bona fide pop radio monsters, but they fit into the albums' progressions of emotions and ideas. Even while being a very mainstream and accessible band, they remained artistic and their sometimes wild and emotional lyrics were not molded by the Top 40. In relation to Third Eye Blind, which was often more somber and sad, "Blue" has more upbeat, electric guitar-heavy tunes. The songwriting is as equally brilliant, and the combination of great songwriting, production, sensibility, and pure musical talent again establishes 3EB as one of post-grunge rock's greatest bands in my mind. Stephan Jenkins spends more time shrieking in his signature falsetto, and Kevin Cadogan and Arion Salazar are given more room to shine. Overall, "Blue" is a absolutely fun, emotional, and artistic gem of late-90s rock.
I only have a few minor complaints about the album. I sometimes tend to skip over a few of the late tracks on the disc, the slower and less memorable ones, but a closer listen actually finds these songs quite compelling. As other reviewers have noted, shoppers should beware of an indistinguishable "edited" version, which cuts the lyrically disturbing "Slow Motion" from the tracklist and includes an instrumental version as the last song. Both versions look identical, so if shopping for this in a store, consumers should closely review the tracklists.
The album begins with the short "Anything," a fast, hard-rocking, dramatic ballad and a great start to the album. "Wounded" continues lyrically in the same vein, a sad song of lost love, but musically is much slower and sad. One of my favorites follows, the ingenious "Ten Days Late," an immediately catchy guitar jam which gives way to a bridge with a full choir break. The first single "Never Let You Go" is an absolute classic, a completely perfect pop song. From the inescapable guitar riffs to the clever lyrics, bridge, and "rap" that finish the song, this song should be remembered as one of the greatest of the late 90s. "Deep Inside of You" was the second single. I find this song similar to "How's It Going to Be" from their debut. It's an effective slow jam, with a more acoustic feel. Jenkins' performance is gripping, and the final push at the end is memorable. The pounding "1000 Julys" precedes one of the very best songs here, "An Ode to Maybe." The confused verses are nearly a backdrop to the awesome arrangement, instantly catchy. "The Red Summer Sun" is a very unique and likable cut, and the fast rock 'n roll of "Camoflage" sets it apart. "Farther" is a song that's grown on me over the years, the simple production is nice. The aforementioned "Slow Motion" is one of their most radical works, a must-hear. The midtempo "Darkness" closes the album along with maybe my favorite song, "Darwin." The electronic instrumentals make a fun sound, and the crazy verses give into an awesome hook. I love the acoustic riff at the beginning and end too.
While it didn't create quite as many waves as its predecessor, I think "Blue" is just about every bit as enjoyable as their groundbreaking debut was. What's sad is that it seems like, from a commercial standpoint, "Blue" was the peak for 3EB. Hopefully, a new album will surface as rumored and more great music will come our way. Until then, definitely pick up "Blue" if you haven't already.
Third Eye Blue...........2007-04-28
This album is awesome...Although not as good as the first one, this is 3EB delivering what the fans seek, a brilliant Alternative-Pop Rock masterpiece...
Masterpiece.......2007-02-21
This cd goes down as one of the most under-rated rock records of the last 15 years. You will be humming these songs all day. Great production values too. Get this. You will love it. Wounded is an unbelievable rock song. Get it for that alone.
Blue is a masterpiece.......2006-11-20
One of the best albums I have ever heard. Well done.

Out of this world..........2007-04-28
If that's how his album sounds like after breaking up with Charlize Theron than he needs to get back with her and break up again and then make another album...
Latest and Greatest from Third Eye Blind.......2007-03-17
Most of the other reviews pretty much cover this album well, so this will be short and sweet. The newest release from 3EB is definetly something everyone who buys will appreciate it the more they listen to it, and this album will stick with them in their collection. One thing about 3EB for me is that no matter how much rock i listen to, 3EB has that unique spot in the rock genre, and its something people obviously realize as well.
Now the point of my review. The term studio polished to describe this album is wrong, wayyyyy wrong. 3EB took a different approach to Out of the Vein, and instead of taking months and making it perfect, they built a new studio, and basically recorded this album as impromptu as possible. Now, from personal experience, and a recording tech, this is usually a bad thing and ends up with a quickly released product that lacks substance. However the band took the middle road, and in a very unusual way, spent no more than two or three takes per track, often doing some parts in one take. This was intentional, so instead of aspiring for perfection, like many other bands do, and have it sound too artificial, the band's method of creating this album gave it a more organic, human sound.
If your not quite familiar with recording techniques, ill go into a really really brief summary. Most bands enter a studio and spend on average, 3 months creating an album, from writing the song, to perfecting the structure, to the final product. Each track is recorded seperatly, often dozens of times, to make it " perfect ". With modern computer systems, the time it takes to record an album is even less, as any imperfections that would usually need another take can be digitally moved and edited out, saving countless hours in the studio.
Its obvious that 3EB didn't do that with this album. most people wouldn't know by the sound of it, but take my word for it, this album was recorded in a far different fashion than Blue or the self titled debut, and it makes this album stand out.
If you want music that almost lives and breaths, that has a life of its own, and you can listen to in its entirety, then look no further, you've found it here with Third Eye Blind.
Every Music Lover Should Own This.......2006-04-17
I've been a music connoisseur for a long time now. From Rap, Hip Hop, Country, Christian, House, Techno, Folk, Jazz, Classic, Punk I've literally bought CDs from every possible genre on Amazon. I love music. And of all my CDs, this is one that I always come back to. Genre-wise, this would be closest to pop rock, but much like Maroon Five's "Songs About Jane", this type of mainstreamish rock is less canned and just never seems to get old. Especially since the lyrics on this album are well written. For the past 3 years this CD has always resurfaced for me.
However, like 99% of CDs there are imperfections. 11 and 12 should pretty much be stricken from this great compilation, but that still leaves 12 (if you count the hidden track) WORTHY tunes that will always be there waiting for you in your CD/MP3 collection.
This is an excellent CD.
Classic.......2006-03-30
So Stephan Jenkins breaks up with actress Charlize Theron and as a result we're treated to 14 pop rock gems that tell us the whole story. No, this isn't like their debut...and it's not like Blue either. But it's still definitely got the signature 3EB sound and Stephan Jenkin's awesome songwriting. This is a throbbing summer-anthem CD, hands down. They've got the same 3EB sound going on, but it sounds more studio polished. The timing is great though- usually a 3EB song starts off with Brad H. on drums, and that launches into the guitar bits & Stephan's singing.
Lyrically, it sounds as if 90% of the album recalls his (Stephan Jenkins) and Charlize's relationship and their falling out, and you'd think that it'd get annoying and old but really it never does. His outlook is at times painful, but it's also fresh and entirely relatable.
In songs like "Crystal Baller" he's clearly up for making ammends, putting the past behind them, "taking the high road" as he says... and just wiping the slate clean. It's easy on the ears and I'm sure plenty of people would like to adopt it as their own personal relationship anthem.
Then there's the fast story of a song "My Hit and Run" which is almost like a dream sequence; the pavement is wet and lights are flashing...he crashes and thinks he sees Her at his "hit and run". Metaphors all around, it's a great play by play.
"Misfits" is another great song typical of Stephan Jenkins, ever the pensive outsider, he claims "My people are the Misfits, the ones that don't fit in" and he makes it sound not at all like a bad thing to be a part of his group. (Cool haunting overtones in the song too.)
"Self Righteous" features SJ with Kimya Dawson. this song is slightly eery and almost out of place on the cd if you ask me. It's not bad, but it's not great either. It's really moody and vague and I'm not sure how I feel about it. Vocally they sound really interesting together, and I always enjoy hearing SJ use his voice at different registers so points there.
"Palm Reader" is a really cool song, which *surprise* recollects Charlize Theron and all that once was. He says he "reads horoscopes in magazines", "especially yours...in the sign of a leo, the regal ones, but man you let your claws show...when will they let me go?" I think it's great that he doesn't even try to hide the fact that he got messed up over the situation, and instead he used it for his art.
"Good Man" closes the cd (well, before the hidden track) and is painfully honest and well written a la classic SJ style. He's holding on, grasping at anything he can in hopes of leaving a good lasting impression. He wants forgiveness and seals his own resolution when he acknowledges that "All that you wanted, was a Good Man" He's overwhelmed and mystified (and I'm just grateful that he was willing to share it with all of us cuz it makes for damn good songs)
The hidden track is a really excellent song as well. It's easily become one of my own personal anthems. "Another Life" is about moving forward and starting over, & being grateful for even being able to do both.
This is quite a few steps away from their debut, but it's still a great album. SJ and co. have matured musically, the sound is a lot more polished, the lyrics a lot less vague. Still, if you're a Third Eye Blind fan you shouldn't be disappointed.
Absolutely Amazing!!.......2006-03-08
This album will blow you away... I've always loved 3eb since the first day I heard "Jumper" on the radio. Unlike Blue, which personally was a bit of a disappointment, [[ And I know others may agree ]] this album is a killer. Every song is catchy yet meaningful, with a soft sound in some, then a bit of a grunge-y-er sound in other songs, and sometimes mixing the two together.
This album is extremely under-appreciated, though I wouldn't go to venture it's better than their first self-titled, 3eb have definately outdone themselves.
I'd list some songs that stand out to me, but honestly, I'm a person that sometimes likes to skip some tracks in favor of about half of the total of a CD. However, this is one of 4 CDs that I will listen to straight through wwithout skipping a single track, every song is flawless. [[ Third Eye Blind's first album is another of these. To those that don't already own it, if you like 3eb I'm telling you, GO BUY IT. ]] I do have favorites... being Faster, Forget Myself, ... ah, nevermind, all of them!
And 3 final words stick out:
Buy. This. Album!!!

Perhaps Third Eye Blind should have titled their third album "Same Vein," since the record offers more of what put the San Francisco band on the map--brainy stream-of-conscious lyrics, big choruses, chunky fretwork, and a liberal dose of sexual innuendo. Frontman Stephan Jenkins engages in some artistic bloodletting here, opening a vein and allowing all the anguish he's experienced over the last few years to spill into these songs. Twelve of the 14 compositions find Jenkins recounting his messy breakup with South African actress Charlize Theron. He veers from attempting to lure her back with facile wordplay and exhaustive sexual promises to being haunted by her cover-girl face every time he passes a newsstand. He even conjures her face before he hits the pavement on "My Hit and Run," which chronicles a motorcycle accident. To his credit, Jenkins is much more interesting a songwriter when he's wounded, offering candor that's not evident on TEB's first two discs. --Jaan Uhelszki

Out of the Vein.......2006-04-11
The best work 3EB has put out yet. They grew into mega band in my mind. The first album was good, than each additional album continued to get better and better. I think it will be hard for them to top this album, but am looking forward to hear their attempt. Good luck with topping this one.
Great comeback CD.......2006-01-16
I was sort of tired of listening to Blinded on the radio and the cover art didn't motivate me much to listen to it so time passed by and I missed it. Its not as ballsy as the others but does have some great melodies. I liked it better than the blue album. I really like 3Eb.
Craving The Once Subtle Genius of Third Eye Blind.......2005-08-25
OOTV has certainly grown on me in the two years I've had it. There's definitely enough good stuff on there to call it an above average record, and I commend 3eb for that. And maybe if this was the first album instead of the third, it would be on my list of top 5 favorite albums of all time. But that's the problem. Third Eye Blind's first two albums were for a lack of a better world absolutely incredible, and OOTV simply can't compete. When it comes down to it, they've lost something. It could be the signature sound of Kevin Cadogan; it could be that this album is just overprocessed; it could be the fact that Stephan Jenkins is just getting older. All I know is I'm craving the band I heard for the first time way back in '97, that ballsy, aggressive, power pop that none of us could forget. Buy this album; it's worth it. But for something that will truly touch you, Blue and Self-titled.
i'm glad this is a limited edition.......2005-07-06
one of my favorite bands from way back when was undeniably third eye blind- making their self titled album one of my most treasured cds. however, this album is way to drowny its missing any form of melody whatsoever and it sounds like 3EB wasn't even enthusiastic about any of these songs. this cd is lacking all of the essential ingredients that they worked so hard to put in for their first album, and then not so much with blue (but enough) but there is an immesurable amount in Out of the vein (maybe just traces of their once good side). its missing all the spunk and anything really important. the best song is crystal baller and that is only so-so, the dvd is interesting but i really wouldn't have paid $18 just for that.
Love it..........2005-05-13
Great album from 3EB, just like their self titled album to "Blue". Being from California, or more specific the Bay Area, they offer a different sound from all the other bands.
My favorite track is "Crystal Baller", but I still like all of the tracks. The bounus DVD is great also featuring the band playing live somewhere I forget. And they even had help from Vanessa Carlton also, so this is a great album from a great band. Go out and but it.

Just as great as it was in 1998!.......2006-12-28
This was my first "This is Alice Music" CD - I missed Volume One (just was able to purchase two yesterday - FINALLY! Have been looking for years). I was thrilled to be able to buy this CD since it had some of my radio station's great songs and the proceeds went to breast cancer research charities such as Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Also, they sold out right away the first year so you had to hurry to get them when they were released. The funny part was that I had just gotten back into listening to music and had already purchased many of the albums represented by the songs included. I bought two of this volume at the time and I still have one never opened. I found out it is now a collector's item -- the same as all of them. In case you don't know, Alice Radio is in San Francisco at 97.3 FM - KLLC. Try it, you'll like it!
Excellent!.......1998-11-01
I have listened to this CD and I can truly say that this is has been one of the greatest compilation of music I have ever heard! The artists and their music are intoned with today's lifestyles and issues. Not only do you get great original music when you buy this CD but it's also good to know that you are helping women (Black,White,Brown or Yellow, sister, mother or a friend) who are suffering from a deadly disease to live longer and fight this enemy we call Breast cancer! And that my friend, is the greatest gift of all!
Another great album. Well done @lice.......1998-10-13
It's the currentstuff. Just great !
An excellent variety of music.......1998-10-10
I recently listened to this newly released CD and found it to be excellent. A lot of my favorite songs from this year have been included. There are also some special additions such as "special Alice Studio" versions and "acoustic versions". Even though the CD focuses on alternative music, there is a big variety between men, women, groups, slow, fast, etc. Also, whent the CD is purchased, a donation is made to many different Breast Cancer foundations. I just find the CD to definitely be well worth it overall.

Hot twosome.......2004-01-27
Third Eye Blind came out with the song "Semi-Charmed Life" and it hit the charts like a freight train. Overplayed on the radio, loved by everyone, and this single was produced. It's a great album single with just 2 songs, but you get their hit "Semi-Charmed Life" which is a clean radio edit, sounds great. And the 2nd track entitled "Tattoo of the Sun" which was unavailable on album. It's a good song that displays the band's creativity of using effects with the rock that they're known for. The orange cd cover is unique and it's a good album to own when you're looking for that great hit song Semi-Charmed Life.

You will not be dissappointed!!!.......2003-05-22
Since picking up Third Eye Blind's newest cd last on May 13th, I have listened to nothing else.I have been enjoying their cd tremendously.I feel the band has grown a lot from their previous work, but you can't mistake them from being anyone else.Stephan's lyrics are so poetic, combined with help from Arion and Tony this time around makes the music simply the best out there.Every song just takes you right in.Out Of Vein has to be one of my top 5 cds in my collection.
