Customer Reviews:
You will never stop playing this!.......2003-12-07
This is a slower but very nice song the best one of those on ''All that you can't leave behind''. I first heard this song on U2'S greatest hits 1990-2000 and it captivated me right away. It has become my favorite U2 song after ''Gone''. Although, I called this song slow above it is not very slow in comparison to many U2 songs. The main reason I like the song is not, however the music-it is the lyrics. The meaning behind the song is connected with Michael Hutchence of INXS's 1997 suicide. He was a friend of Bono's. Thus the song is about suicide and how, when people kill themselves, they're ''stuck in a moment they can't get out of''. That is certainly true, but I do not really think of that being the subject matter when I hear it. To me, it is about how, sometimes, you get into the pit of never getting out of a bad situation that happened to you. The circumstances of it just replay themselves in your head. This meaning of course, also, ties in with the suicide theme. The song's subject matter is certainly sad but also hopeful in a way-''This time will pass''.
Of course, it won't if you don't let it. It is very interesting how a song can mean different things to different people. Anyway, if this is the only U2 song you ever hear-you will still love the group!
Question.......2002-01-24
Does anybody know where the acoustic version of "Stuck In a Moment You Can't Get Out Of" is available?
Great album to get after All That you Can Leave Behind.......2001-05-04
This CD Contains the regular LP version of Stuck in A Moment, a live track of Beautiful Day, and a live track of New York. Although these live tracks are not mind blowing, they are well recorded and well performed. I love these song, and their new album, but this CD is definately just a luxury for a couple of live tracks. Grab the album first, this is only a moderate value.
Get it for the live tracks.......2001-04-28
The single itself, "Stuck in a Moment", is a tribute (?) of sorts to Michael Hutchense, who committed suicide. The song is infectious, but is also the most striking example of U2's change in lyrical style on 'All That You Can't Leave Behind'. Namely, there's a lack of poetic sense here which seems deliberate. Nonetheless, the last 1 minute of the song is one of the better U2 moments.
The b-sides are live performances of "Beautiful Day" and "New York" at the small Farm Club venue. (You can hear the individual claps and whoops from the audience.) "Beautiful Day" is a good version in the sense that the guitars are a bit more distorted and the ending is played out a bit longer - adding a bit more anthemic qualities to this already anthemic track. There are better live versions of "New York" out there, but the primary differences here from the studio version (which was also, purportedly, done in only two or three takes) is Bono's more straightforward singing of the refrain and the guitar drenched ending. A live version of "Elevation" would have been better since that track is done quite a bit different live.
No meanings hidden, no new chords uncovered.......2001-04-03
They seem to have wanted a universal anthem and a disposable pop song. Short verses, memorable chorus, and a guitar line in the Where The Streets Have No Name and One lineage. If Backstreet Boys released this, one would call it nice and move on. Since it's U2, one searches for hidden meaning, but this is instant gratification, too lightweight for anthem status.
This sits uneasily between the two, too deep in its examination of wanting to get out of a non-relationship, but not deep enough to be the generational anthem it so clearly craves.
The extras on Disc One are Big Girls Are Best, a competent bit of b-side material and a thumping remix of Beautiful Day. Disc Two boasts overexcited live versions of Beautiful Day and New York, from last November's farmclub.com gig. A live Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of would have been nice.

Very Nice.......2002-05-23
This is an excellent CD from start to finish, offering a variety of different music styles. The first track is very similar to the version on ATYCLB, so if you have that album the difference is minimal. However, the acoustic versions of "Stuck in a Moment" and "Stay" are very polished. Both tracks are very stripped down, and they are sung with more emotion than their studio counterparts. These tracks alone make this CD worth the money. The version of "Stay" is so different that I had to go back and listen to Zooropa and see if it was the same song. The song sounds a lot different since it lacks percussion and the bass line, although I think that this focuses more attention on the lyrics (which is a good thing). The last track is great for working out, but not the kind of track you would listen to if you were trying to study or relax. The bottom line is this CD has a little bit of everything from a pop song, to two acustic tracks, to a dance club mix.

Customer Reviews:
When is U2 going to learn ?.......2001-07-06
Yet again U2 has managed to force feed us 2 more "club" versions of an otherwise excellent song. "Beautiful Day" is a long awaited old style U2 rocker that has plenty of potential if remixed properly. On these cuts, all but 1 guitar riff and Bono's vocals are stripped from the song making the remixes sound terribly forced, not to mention poorly paced.
On the other hand, "Big Girls Are Best" is an EXCELLENT outtake from the "Pop" sessions and a must have for any U2 fanatic.
Thumbs up on the cover photo as well, these guys still look great after all those years !!!
OK for fans of 'Pop' and dance mixes.......2001-04-28
This single features the same version of "Stuck in a Moment" as the record, 'All That You Can't Leave Behind.' So why buy it? "Big Girls Are Best" is an outtake from the 'Pop' sessions, much in the same vein as the other b-sides from that record (like "Holy Joe" and "Happiness is a Warm Gun"). The remixes of "Beautiful Day" are interesting if you are into dance remixes (and if that is the case, check out the Perfecto Mix single of "Even Better Than the Real Thing"). Otherwise, pass this one by.
Australian's are best!.......2001-03-26
This is an exclusive U2 Australian import single with four (4) tracks, including: Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of (album version), Big Girls Are Best, Beautiful Day (Quincey and Sonance Remix), and Beautiful Day (The Paul Oakenfold and Andy Gray Perfecto Mix). As far as remixes go, they're not bad. I'm just not usually a fan of them. But if you wanna host a U2 rave, you'll love 'em. Big Girls Are Best was produced by Flood and Howie B and is obviously a leftover from POP. It's gritty and fun with heavy bass, jangly guitar, great harmonies, and a '60s Britpop feel to it. Big Girls Are Best alone makes this a worthy purchase for any U2 fan. Enjoy.

U2 music from the Land Down Under.......2001-03-26
This is an exclusive U2 limited edition Australian import single. The four (4) tracks include: Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of (album version), Beautiful Day (Live from farmclub.com), New York (Live from farmclub.com), and Beautiful Day (David Holmes Remix). The live tracks are excellent and provide a tantalizing preview of U2's upcoming Elevation World Tour. Live, U2 always bring something extra to their music and Bono always embellishes the lyrics with his unique improvisations. The live tracks make this a worthy purchase for any U2 fan. In my opinion, New York works better here than on the new album. The Beautiful Day remix is an instrumental track with entirely new musicians and instrumentation with subtle echoes of the original album version. It's an unusual remix that makes for a nice treat.
Stuck In A Moment And You Can't Get Out Of.......2001-03-20
Stuck in A Moment is the theme of overcoming crisis ("this time will pass")and forging on established.Modern pop-soul sound an agreeable shock.Edge keeps it Steve Cropper simple.A keyboard rings out like a bell.Clayton and Mullen punctuate sparsely. And Bono's beutiful voice makes this whole single the perfect one.

Beautiful Moments.......2001-03-07
The second song on this single CD collection is a non-album track titled Big Girls Are Best, a song which evolves from an elastic blend of funk and techno reminescent of the German industrial days played on with their 1991 Grammy Award winning Achtung Baby! The funky basslines smoothly mixed with aggressive and melodic guitar riffs create a texture full with ambient techno, and tribal vibes fusing compelling house rhythms. The song carries a sultry beat that dares the listener not to get up and dance. And get up and dance is what you'll do, with the agrressiveness of powerful rock sounds. The third track on this mini-CD is a techno remix of the grammy Award winning Beautiful Day. The remixing, technically rearranged by DJ's Quincy and Sonance, create the flavor which POP failed to do. It is a sonic masterpiece fusing house rhyhms and techno sounds layered with futuristic dancescapes that plays with the gloss neon moods of a trip-hop lounge. The patterns, incorporating elements of tribal, techno, electro, ambient, dub and house blend with a beautiful array of haunting and soulful rhythms. And the original melodies are not lost. This mix edges on Darwinism. Of Music. And. It's Beautiful. The songs on U2's newest CD, ATYCLB, paint a portrait with mini-video stories, stories most definitely not for boys. There are reflections of human nature in the sadness of loss stolen from suicide as Bono, the band's singer, somehow creates a positive manner in his passion of the passing of a close friend. It is the second chapter in the explorations of human consciousness and drama. Stuck in A Moment You Can't Get out Of, a song that, lyrically, like a jester hides pain for a moment of playing the fool: "I was unconscious, half asleep..." Yet through it all the singer gives us hope as he points out: "It's just a moment, This time Will Pass." Musically the song is full of passion, blessed with hidden anger capturing feelings both sorrowful and hopeful. The sounds are beautifully arranged, layered in a style where every note is perfectly heard. And felt. The band is back to writing music. The singer is back to writing compelling lyrics. Indeed, U2 is the loudest Folk Rock band in the world.
For Collectors of U2 B-Sides.......2001-02-27
The average fan might not be interested in a CD like this, but die-hard U2 fans will love it. I have listened to the track "Big Girls Are Best" over and over. Musically it is solid - just as well produced as anything that made it onto "All That You Can't Leave Behind." The lyrics are quite humorous - Bono is at his tongue-in-cheek best. The remix of "Beautiful Day" is worth having as well.
If "All That You Can't Leave Behind" left you hungry for more new U2, this will help satisfy the craving.
Another solid U2 single.......2001-02-25
Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of: This is the same version off the album All That You Can't Leave Behind. Nothing has changed.
Big Girls Are Best: Sounds like an outtake from U2's Pop album. And since this song is produced and mixed by Howie B, that's the very reason why it sounds like it belongs on Pop! It's very Beatles-esque, with vocal harmonies and a classic Beatles "yeah yeah-yeah yeah". Take this song for what it is - a very harmless, fun, pop-rock song with a 60's groove to it.
Beautiful Day (Quincey & Sonance Remix): I'm not too big on "filler remixes" - you know the kind. One beat over and over a lyric. Boring! Wait a second though! This is not that type of remix! It might sound like it for the first 10 seconds, but the rest of it is much more interesting. More sonic layers find their way into the song, including a very soothing Bono vocal, and some futuristic synths and a very crisp sounding guitar. Finally after 2 and a half minutes, the chorus of Beautiful Day cuts in, and fades into the lyrics of Beautiful Day with a dance beat overlayed in the background. The chorus for the rest of the remix is very fresh sounding, with Edge's guitar echoing in and out. Very beautiful! No, this isn't a butchered attempt at a remix - this is truly a new innovative way of representing Beautiful Day. It's still such a happy and inspirational song.
If you like the song Beautiful Day, if you're a fan of U2's album All That You Can't Leave Behind, or if you're a fan of U2's album Pop - I recommend this single!

Essential to you U2 Collection.......2001-06-06
This limited edition CD single from Paris has it all. Postcard shots of the band from their alternate version video of "Beautiful Day," nice embossed collectors case, and of course, the live tracks. The CD includes two previously unreleased live tracks ("Even Better Than The Real Thing" and "All I Want Is You") from the band's October 19, 2000, club show at the Manray in Paris. It also includes the B-side "Big Girls Are Better" and "Stuck In A Moment." This is the way all CD singles should be!!!

This CD is a MUST for collectors. The case is made of a fabric and U2 is embossed on the front and back. The "postcards" are great shots of the band, and the live recordings are excellent.
