Rug Burn [Explicit Lyrics]
Semi-Dwarf Quarterly, September 5, 1999
Rug Burn exceeded my expectations. A marvelous work. It's far and away the best CD to come my way.
Butcher's Block, December 15, 1999.
Track 15, about the redisposition of rock stars, is incredible. It's a pleasure to have listened to this CD.

Intelligent, expansive, poetic hip-hop...for a change........2004-05-21
Bennett is a wide-ranging poet, writer and publisher. Here he teams up with hip-hop musicians and DJs and merges his worldclass poetry into the beat.
If you wonder if the lyrical range of what you've been listening to can be expanded, well: yes, it can! Bennett takes it up and out a few levels. Let's call him a contender and see if anyone is ahead of him lyrically. Any takers? He's always been game for a title shot, but I don't think that's been allowed---not until the Net opened things up and let the Underground finally start to take things over, as well it should.
Lots of organic body vibe here. Rage, too. Not overly overt or violent per se: but sensuous high voltage just the same.
Bennett is one of the few remaining Beats. He's getting on in years. The youngsters he worked with on this project said they were impressed with his natural speaking rhythm.
Bennett has done tremendous things over the decades in literature with his Vagabond Press (out of Ellensburg, Washington). See his other work elsewhere here. He's still a window-washer. Have you heard of him? Now's your chance. He's a true legend of the underground. He's celebrated by the ULA (Underground Literary Alliance), a group which is making big headway in confronting the mainstream with the merits of the underground and finding that the mainstream is as thirsty as we've thought.
"Rug Burn" is in my permanent random CD rotation and it always adds to the scene when a cut comes on. Bennett more than holds his own: he adds to culture in a longterm way.
