4 out of 5 stars RCA vs. ARISTA version.......2006-06-01

Hello to everybody. Someone told me that the ARISTA (anerican) version contains an unreleased track and a live track plus than the RCA (english) version. Someone have more info about?
Many thanks in advance.

4 out of 5 stars A listening delight for fans.......2006-04-27

Well, just play me some "Mountain Music." It's been 25 years since Alabama signed its first record deal with RCA, and in celebration RCA/Legacy has released the three-disc box set Alabama: Livin' Lovin' Rockin' Rollin': The 25th Anniversary Collection, covering the Alabama phenomenon.

Unlike 2005's The Essential Alabama set, this collection cherry picks songs from across the years. Plenty of hits are to be had as well as eight previously unreleased tracks. The set comes with a detailed 52-page book with photos, band timeline, track annotations and an essay by Robert Oermann. This set tells about the band's legacy and gives you an understanding of why RIAA named them the "Country Band of the Century."

From the get go, disc 1 captures you with "My Home's In Alabama (Live)," "Forty Hour Week (For A Livin')," an anthem for millions of people, and a seven-plus minute medley of "That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine/Suppertime/Teach Your Children/Don't It Make You Want To Go Home." This is followed by "Mountain Music," which always gets my foot tapping.

Disc 2 starts out with "Feels So Right," a song that millions (me included) slow danced to many times in the '80s. A song that surprised me was Alabama's version of "God Must Have Spent A Little More Time on You," with 'N Sync doing the harmony vocals. Though 'N Sync made the song famous, Alabama added real feeling to it. Granted, they're different music genres, but it's the quintessential Alabama that has been keeping it "real" all these years while America's popular music tastes have varied widely from the artificial sounding '80s, the grunge '90s and whatever it's called today.

Disc 3 just keeps the good music rolling and finishes off with an interesting trio of songs, the story-telling "Ripperly O'Tucke (Demo)," the name dropping "Hats Off" and ending appropriately with "The Fans."

51 songs including almost two dozen number one songs, over half a dozen live/alternate versions, and eight previously unreleased tracks, Livin' Lovin' Rockin' Rollin' is worthy of anyone's music collection.

"We hope you remember, we are just the boys in the band. And what keeps the fires a'burnin,' is always, you the fans." Many fans remember fondly all right. Alas, the band's retirement from the road won't keep fans from looking forward to more recordings.

5 out of 5 stars Must Have.......2006-03-20

This Anniversary album is a must have for anyone who appreciates what country music is all about. The group's timeline and explanation of how each song on the album came to be is great. The pictures provided are awesome and help explain their roots in Ft. Payne, AL and what the "Boys" have accomplished. The mix of songs is great and a few that I'd never heard before. If you don't have it, get it.

5 out of 5 stars A rich, career spanning box set.......2006-02-24

In celebration of 25 years since their signing to RCA, the newly formed RCA/Legacy has issued the group's first triple-disc set. In contrast to 2005's two-disc "Essential" set, this collection is more of a full band biography than a straightforward recitation of their chart hits. There are hits to be heard (including nearly two-dozen #1s, seventeen in their original studio incarnation, and a half-dozen in live or alternate versions), but there's also a good helping of cherry-picked album tracks, and eight previously unreleased sides. Together with the richly detailed 52-page book (which includes a lengthy essay by Robert Oermann, track annotations, a band timeline and a generous helping of rare photos), this is a lot more than a triple-CD set, it's a package that tells the band's entire story, including their chronology, live performances, and, as mentioned, a good helping of their incredible string of hits.

Over the course of their 22 years with RCA, Alabama defined what it was to be a successful country music band. In an industry dominated by star singers and their backing players, Alabama looked to both the '70s Southern rock experience (Allmans, et al.) and the twangy style of Nashville to forge a new country identity. Their electric guitars and drums are topped with pure country harmonies, and their songs (both originals and those picked up from others' pens) were down-home. While the rock world was busy with the purposely artificial sounds of new wave throughout the '80s, Alabama kept the guitars and drums burning, particularly in their live performances, and turned out touching ballads with equal ease. Their '90s hits like "I'm in a Hurry (and Don't Know Why)" are prime examples of how modern country could take in pop influences without becoming crossover mush, and latter-day top-20s like "The Cheap Seats" and "Born Country" are filled with warmth.

Those looking to understand Alabama's chart dominance may be better served by last year's two-disc set, but anyone who wants to learn (or relive) the band's whole story would be well-served by this new set. Longtime fans will enjoy the opportunity to recount select album tracks, listen to several well-known hits in live versions (and in the case of "Face to Face," an alternate studio take), and hear unreleased items that include the one-off 1982 live medley of "That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine / Suppertime / Teach Your Children / Don't It Make You Want to Go Home" and the 1973 Randy Owen acoustic demo of "Ripperly O'Tucke." Those who first heard these songs in their original release may find the lack of chronological ordering to be disconcerting, but overall the programming flows smoothly.

This isn't the all-encompassing Alabama box set that will satiate everyone's needs - there are far too many hits missing, or replaced by live versions to be definitive. But as a retelling of the rise and sustained artistry of country music's most successful band - the band that defined success as a country music group - it's a winner. 4 out of 5 stars Probably the best you can expect from these guys.......2007-05-05

If you were to only buy one Kottonmouth Kings album, this would have to be it. Altough in my opinion it has alot of filler songs(songs not meant to be great but good enough for hardcore fans). This cd best represents the group and acts like an introduction into their type of genre. Songs which are the most notable are as follows;
Sleeper- A fast-paced intro into the world of suburb-pop-punk-hip hop which this group seems to engulf itself in.

Rest of my life- A classic stoner tune in every aspect. Even if you don't smoke weed, you'll catch yourself singing along.

Strange Dayz- A great example of how KMK can get down lyrically with a hard hip-hop flavor.

Tangerine Sky- My personal favorite, call it ska, punk, or even hip-hop. Something about KMK can appeal to just about anybody.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome cd.......2007-01-30

Just about every song on this album is awesome. KMK are one of my favorite bands. If you like bands such as ICP, Twiztid, or Rehab. Then you will love the KMK

This album is great. ALL of their stuff is great. Fantastic music to smoke to.

5 out of 5 stars My favourite KMK album.......2006-06-01

This album is an underground classic! No bad songs on this album at all. I highly recommend this album to everyone, wheather you're a rap fan or a punk fan, it dosen't matter, this album has something for everyone. Even my mum likes some of KMK's songs (Positive Vibes, Let The Sunshine, Peace Of Mind, Tangerine Sky), and my mum hates all rap usually lol. Anyways, everyone should buy this album. \

5 out of 5 stars Gotta Keep Rolling.......2004-01-25

This is one of the best albums, every track a winner, haven't stopped playing it since it arrived. Some years ago I bought Della and the Dealer on vinyl which had eight tracks on it. As my turntable has been disconnected for a while I thought I would try Amazon to try and find it on CD. This CD you sent was even better with 25 tracks. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
Every track is now a favourite!

5 out of 5 stars one of the true bargains in cd's.......2001-11-07

Before I bought this cd I was familiar with only a handful of Hoyt Axton's songs. For a cd with so many tracks I still don't skip over many of them. You could buy a box full of cd's and still not have as much great music as you'll find here!

5 out of 5 stars gotta keep on rollin.......2000-04-04

I've been listening to Hoyt since 1970. This is a good representation of his work. His best songs were never the most popular ones. IN A YOUNG GIRLS EYES pretty much says it all for me. There will never be another one like him.

5 out of 5 stars This CD is the greatest!.......1999-12-05

I've listened to this CD over and over and have yet to get tired of it. I had the chance to work with Hoyt about 10 years ago on a TV show he was doing in the area. He was the nicest person you could imagine. This CD is definitely one for the collection.

5 out of 5 stars This is the best of Hoyt Axton!.......1999-11-04

This CD contains all the very best songs of Hoyt Axton. It is even more precious since we lost him forever last week. Hope you're enjoying that Rusty Old Halo, Hoyt!

5 out of 5 stars And Not A Minute Too Soon!!!.......2003-02-03

This is the disc that started it all. Originally titled "Canned Heat" this is that first Liberty album on CD. It was somewhat ignored because it didn't produce a hit single; "On The Road Again" was from their second album. So what we have here is some good old down home country blues and it's half standards like "Evil" and "Rollin' and Tumblin'" and half group compositions like "Bullfrog Blues". Al Wilson only sings on one track but his harp wails thoughout the disc. This is really a one of a kind affair because starting with the next album the band couldn't resist going a little pyschedelic. The sound on this one, by the way, is clear as a bell.

4 out of 5 stars Return of dane.......2005-04-13

Dana is back after a few years out of action. He used to have a few good songs back in the 80's to the start of the 90's which put him on level. Now he is back again with some newer beats which are sounding nice, good production. He is keeping it real and not rapping about murdering and starting trouble, in the way that if it happens, it happens, just be prepared aswel as real life experiences which is more real than pretending you are untouchable and hard when no one is. Altogether, this is a good album and dana deserves respect since he is oldschool too and was there when things were warming up. So, pick it up if you wandering. Definately good. Peace!

2 out of 5 stars Pointless Sampler for the Over 50 Set.......2007-02-20

The Train Kept A Rollin' is a random collection of songs from the Columbia back catalog. In every case the shortest edit of the song is used. The 11 minute plus opus "Time Has Come Today" by The Chambers Bros. is cut to a breif 3:33. Boston's "More Than A Feeling" is down to 3:29 (originally 4:45). "Frankestein" (Edgar Winter Group) is a mere 3:27 (full version is 4:44). Santanta's "Black Magic Woman" has been separated from "Gypsy Queen". Sly Stone's "I Want To Take You Higher" should be 5:42 but is down to 3:04.

As if to say Bob Dylan is the be all and end all of rock, the set starts off with "Subterranean Homesick Blues" and ends with his forgettable "Love Sick".

This is a truely pointless collection.

[DW]

3 out of 5 stars NOT "The Greatest Rock Collection of the Century", but..........2005-03-25

...still has some good stuff. I laughed at the sticker on the front of mine - "THE GREATEST ROCK COLLECTION OF THE CENTURY!" especially after reading the collection of tracks - (Where's Elvis? The Beatles? The Doors? Jefferson Airplane? Jimi Hendrix? The Who? Led Zeppelin?) - but it's still worth adding to a collection, with songs not often seen on such retrospectives, like Meat Loaf's "Paradise by the Dashboard Light." Certainly NOT the greatest of the century, but a good start.

4 out of 5 stars A good entry in the series.......2000-02-28

This collection totally ignores rock's early years, not featuring anythin prior to mid-60's Bob Dylan. Again it is limited to recordings in the Columbia/Epic library, which is fine, but it does make for a distorted view of the 'music for the century'.

As a series of snapshots of rock music from the 60's to the 90's it is well worth your attention.

Having achieved success with his landmark 1941 recordings for John and Alan Lomax and the Library of Congress (released under his given name, McKinley Morganfield), Muddy Waters moved to Chicago two years later--and took the future of American popular music with him. In 1947, he began recording for Aristocrat Records with piano wizard Sunnyland Slim and band, then alone with bassist Ernest "Big" Crawford and sometimes two or three more sidemen, turning out a body of work unmatched by any other postwar bluesman. This brilliant compilation, produced by Andy McKaie, spans the five years during which Aristocrat became the legendary Chess Records and Muddy emerged as a preeminent blues master known for his raw vocals and vital guitar. Showcased here are such seminal gems as "I Can't Be Satisfied," "Feel Like Goin' Home," "Mean Red Spider," "All Night Long," and "Long Distance Call," plus two takes of the cultural cornerstone "Rollin' Stone." --Alan Greenberg

4 out of 5 stars Very good, but not the place for newcomers to start.......2004-03-28

This excellently remastered MCA compilation presents every known track Muddy Waters recorded for the Aristocrat and Chess labels between 1947 to 1952, which means that "Rollin' Stone" is a find for serious Muddy scholars, but not a good choice for those who are just looking for a comprehensive career overview.

Most of Muddy Waters' best-known songs are missing...signature tunes like "Got My Mojo Working", "Hoochie Coochie Man", and "I Love The Life I Live" were all recorded after 1952, and some will certainly find that these fifty songs are too similar to be listened to in one long sitting. Most of the songs on disc one feature just Waters and bassist Ernest "Big" Crawford, and percussion doesn't show up until disc two has almost run out.

But these early tracks have a lot going for them as well. They show what a great slide guitarist Muddy Waters used to be, and songs like "Gypsy Woman", "I Can't Be Satisfied", "Country Boy", "Honey Bee", and Muddy's rendition of "Rollin' And Tumblin'" are essential parts of the bedrock of Chicago blues.
If you already have the electric stuff, this is where you go for the rest. If you don't, get "The Anthology 1947-1972" or "The Chess Box" first, and then come back to this fine collection.

5 out of 5 stars The Genesis of Muddy's Career at Chess.......2000-10-29

Not counting his 1941-42 field recordings for the Library of Congress (available on The Complete Plantation Recordings) and a few tracks he recorded for Columbia in 1946, this two-disc collection represents the beginning of Muddy Waters' recorded legacy on the Aristocat (later to become Chess)label between 1947 and 1952.

Waters' powerful vocals and stinging slide guitar playing would become his trademarks on such singles as "I Can't Be Satisfied," "I Feel Like Going Home," "Mean Red Spider" and "Streamline Woman"--all released in 1948. On disc one (1947-1950) Waters is accompanied only by Sunnyland Slim (bass) and Leroy Foster (second guitar on nearly half the tracks). The only exceptions are the addition of drum and piano on "Screamin' and Cryin'," "Where's My Woman Been" and Last Time I Fool Around with You."

On disc two (1950-1952) Waters has added Little Walter on harmonica and Jimmy Rogers is in the second-guitar seat. This disc features classic blues like "Rollin' Stone," "Louisiana Blues," "Long Distance Call," "Honey Bee" and "All Night Long."

This is powerful music and belongs in any serious music fan's library. You can't own too much Muddy Waters. And even if you bought the Chess Box Set, only a third of these tracks were included. ESSENTIAL

5 out of 5 stars There Was But One Muddy Waters..........2000-08-26

And by putting onto a single disc the first fifty recordings he produced for what began as Aristocrat Records and soon enough became Chess, MCA/Universal has done an even stronger service than with that luminous "Chess 50th Anniversary Collection" of a couple of years ago. The moment Muddy Waters plugged his guitar in was the moment the blues graduated from merely American earth music to a universal feeling of the soul, though of course it took some time and tribute to bring material fact in line with actuality. To have heard these recordings in any context was revelatory enough; but to have them now, in just about the order in which the man produced them, is the music gift of the year and then some. The earliest and in many ways most revelatory exercises of his barely-urbanized, drawling vocal style, amplified Delta-cured guitar throb (Waters, almost alone among his disciples, never really left the Delta entirely behind, no matter how advanced or more polished he may have become as the years rolled by), and vivid, near-poetic songwriting get perhaps the most elemental hearing you will ever have at ready hand. If this were a court session, here would be the final argument to the jury that Muddy Waters was the most important bluesman to emerge in full flower after World War II. But you should not need a jury to tell you that he was, at least, the true father and, in only too many ways, the never-equaled godhead of Chicago blues.

5 out of 5 stars Robert's "electric charisma".......2006-08-10

I am the current road drummer for Cleveland Fats, who played with Robert for 20+ years. I had the opportunity to meet Robert at his 90th birthday party. It was a humbling experience for me. The man is truly a legend yet only popular in the blues world. This album displays Robert's "electric charisma" and should be proof enough to anyone that Robert is one of the finest blues players of our time.

5 out of 5 stars Steady Rollin Lockwood.......2004-02-02

Robert Lockwood is on this cd with a few buddys of his. The Three Aces. Fred Below,Dave Myers and Louis Myers.

This cd was Robert's first album as a leader. Robert and the Aces are awesome performers. They are also on a Import Cd BluesLive.

This is not Robert's greatest cd but certainly a great debut album. If you enjoy nice ol blues music you will like this album.Robert is 89 years old and still travels the country.

5 out of 5 stars Great Performance.......1999-12-14

One does not have to be a blues expert to see that there are some fine musicians on this recording that acompany one of the greatest blues guitarist that ever lived, not to mention the most under rated. These guys travelled with and sat in the studio with the greatest blues music ever. This collection shows all of the polish that you would expect from that type of experience. Robert Lockwood shows us on this recording that you do not need large amplifiers to cook. I saw him a few months ago sit on a tall stool with nothing but a twelve string and not another soul in sight and simply hypnotized me and the rest of the audience. He does exactly that on this cd. You will enjoy listening to this if for no other reason but to hear true artistry in the blues.

3 out of 5 stars 50/50.......2007-05-21

My first introduction to John Hiatt's songwriting was the best one: 1987's "Bring the Family." Working WITH Ry Cooder's non-pareil band, and working THROUGH some tough personal issues, Hiatt turned up a masterpiece - evidence of some sort of grace suffusing his art.

BTF led me to other Hiatt recordings ------ and the reluctant realization that this was likely to remain his best for a long time. The other albums didn't fully crystallize musically, although they never failed to have a number of outstanding songs on them, and rarely any "bad ones." I pulled back from buying Hiatt albums for awhile, but after occasionally returning to the ones I owned and giving them a deeper listen, I made peace with the understanding that the nature of his work seemed to entail a mixed output. Hiatt is a truly singular musician and songwriter, and expecting talents of this sort to make every composition a gem is unrealistic. His subject matter takes risks, exploring lyrical areas that are virgin territory, e.g. "Warming Up to the Ice Age." And this means he is more like a home-run hitter: for every ball blasted into the bleachers, there are more line drives just inches inside the foul ball pole, long flies caught on the warning track, and towering infield pop-ups. In other words, they may not be hits (pun intended), but they do induce our admiration, pointing to those other works that "clear the fences." Anyway, I know look for and pick up Hiatt's work whenever I can.

His unusual song-writing range, however, does leave some interesting material available to other artists to interpret, borrowing from him to give the song another rendition from a different perspective. This may be at least half the value of Hiatt's output, placing intriguing material in the hands of other singers.

Tribute albums - and Hiatt has no less than 3 - have become a good means to test a song's viability beyond its composer. ROLLIN' INTO MEMPHIS has some solid, emotionally-compelling moments that flicker into life by track 4, Odetta's plaintive-owl stylization of "Listening to Old Voices." This is followed by Kenny Neal's powerful version of "Love Like Blood," a more nuanced vocalization than Hiatt gave. "The River Knows Your Name," by Colin Linden reaches anthem status with its hand-in-glove vocal and guitar delivery. "Feels Like Rain" is energized by a fine New Orleans-style arrangements, though the vocals of Benoit and Neal fall a tad short. Not so with Andrea Re's firm and sensitive delivery on "Thirty Years of Tears" - a sold work.

Chris Smither's "Real Fine Love" has a pleasantly relaxed conviction informing the song's sentiments.

Less successful - but earning a gentleman's grade - are the efforts of Irma Thomas's "Old Habits Are Hard to Break." Terrence Simien's "It Hasn't happened Yet" doesn't quite, well, happen. And it was a mistake to lead the recording with CJ Chenier's "Falling Up," a zydeco missfire interpretation. Both Cliff Eberhardt and Patty Larkin (whose own work I much admire) stray off the mark by being either too plaintive or too restrained.

4 out of 5 stars Fitting Tribute.......2005-11-24

Seems some people don't get the idea behind tributes. It's not about trying to outdo the original but to give an interpretation in your own style. For this reason it is a great album, not as strong as the first tribute "Love Gets Strange" (a must have) but an enjoyable collection of songs none the less and on a par with the later "It'll Come To You". In my opinion all are worth having.

1 out of 5 stars Hiatt in name only.......2001-05-03

I'm sorry, but this is not Hiatt. If you are interested in John Hiatt, buy the real thing and skip this one. There is nothing special on this disc. It seems to me that there are some artits without a large audience that want to capitalize on some well written material, but only deliver obscure interpretations. I regret buying this CD.

5 out of 5 stars allstar tribute.......2000-09-10

allstar tribute to the great american songwriter john haitt himself. collection of very talented artist from kenny neals version of "love like blood" to my favorite cut by irma thomas "old habits are hard to break". cd also includes guest' tab benoit and chris smithers

5 out of 5 stars HIATT, HIATT, HIATT!!!!!.......2000-09-07

What a treat it was to stumble across this more than deserved tribute to the songs of master songwriter John Hiatt. Right from the top, a (zydeco) version of Falling Up by CJ Chenier, the CD just rocks! While Hiatt has had his songs covered by artists ranging from Paula Abdul (yuck!) to Joan Baez, Iggy Pop, Phil Collins (double-yuck) and Bob Dylan, this tribute leans in more of a blues direction and let me tell you what, it works perfectly! Other faves include Irma Thomas on Old Habits.... and Tab Benoit on Feels Like Rain. Can anyone say volume 2??????
