johnny barreto,flutist,born in new york city and raised in puerto rico from age 6.when he was 16,he began working as a band boy for one of the premier salsa bands of puerto rico, "RAPHY LEAVITT AND LA SELECTA ORCHESTRA"...raphy leavitt being his brother-in-law became his mentor as well.johnny grew to love salsa and latin jazz from an early age. in 1986,he moved from puerto rico to the bay area,california.there,he was exposed more to jazz and latin jazz.after listening to great flutist's dave valentin and nestor torres,johnnybecame immensely inspired and by age 30 johnny decided to learn to play the flute.after taking lessons here and there,he began playing at church and with a couple of small bands.now,johnny has made is dream come true by releasing his first cd title"INNOCENT LOVE" this cd is dedicated to the memory of his belated mother"SILA BARRETO".johnny barreto is a talented flutist that is here to stay.listen to his music and you will definitely understand.
